3. Option to have the thread created by the uploader or always assigned to the same user account
4. Option to never create threads by category

6. Link added between thread and Downloads file detail.
7. Updated Downloads entry creates new post in thread alerting of an update.
8. Database link to Downloads file entry removed if thread is deleted.
9. If the Downloads new entry is placed in moderation, so is the thread.


I just thought of the best idea :D

Basically the opposite of the above. This may not be able to be completed until downloads can have multiple files.


So when a user creates a thread that post and file gets moved to the downloads database.

Options would include:
1. Have the option for the mod to approve the thread before it is accepted or moved to the downloads database.
2. Set it up so each forum is linked to a category in downloads. eg. Forum1 is linked to category X (lets say I have a forum called mac downloads then I would also have a category called mac downloads, and they are both linked together, so when a new thread is created it is moved to that category. If it doesnt have a category that matches it then it is moved to a default category waiting to be approved or moved.
3. Have it say on the downloads database "Official support forum here" and have it link to the thread that created it.
4. Really need to be able to close the thread so no one can post in the downloads database as an option if #3 above is used. because people will be posting in the forum for that download.


I know some of these features may have to wait, but what do you think of the idea so far?
This would be by far the best thing for my forum ever.

how about a points addon so people cannot download lots at once saving on bandwidth? where they reset everyday unless there a certain usergroup then they can earn more and no reset or something as this was draining my band quickly..

We are looking very closely with intergration for vbux. The addition of hooks in ver 5.0.4 was a big step in making it possible.

The table dl_downloads can get really, really big for sites that have a lot of downloads. This prunes that table based on the value you enter. So, if you put a 5 in the field, any entries in dl_downloads that are over 5 days old are deleted.

In the admincp -> downloads -> downloads, those are the records in dl_downloads.

JamesNo, that can't actually be done right now. You can prevent a usergroup from seeing a catergory but you can't restrict it in the way you want. That is big on the list of feature enhancements.

Follow the install instructions in the readme file and you'll be fine (basically copy over your old files with the new downloads files and import the product)

I consider this an essential add-on for DownloadsII. Why don't I just incorporate it into DownloadsII?

By keeping it as a separate add-on we gain three items:

I can change and update the Add-On without causing current DownloadsII users to worry about template or custom code revisions.
If you don't want the thread creation features, you won't have those extra options in your admincp.

Thanks again for all your hard work, i had a suggestion for the next release, i think it would be great if we could edit the error msg. users get, for example right now when users try to access files they dont have permission to see , they get a "INVALID ID" msg. thus they think the link is wrong or something, if we could for example edit that msg. and say, only so and so people can access this file, would be great, just something that in my opinion is very useful .

You already can! :) DownloadsII is fully phrased. In your example, in "admincp -> Search in Phrases", search for "ecdownloads_msg_invalid_file".

The limiting of unregistered users helps me a lot.

There is no real need to register, but I can motivate them to get more active.
But I also discovered that someone unregistered downloaded one particular file 91 times (getting the counter into the top files I assume).

Well, with 3 files a day he'll have a hard time now ;)

:) To be sure that the 3 files a day limit is enforced, make sure that the usergroup option "Use strict daily download limits" is set to "Yes". Otherwise, the limit will only be enforced if both the daily MB and # files per day are reached.

I have seen many times that newly uploaded files with zero downloads in the queue have 5 star ratings. It's obvious the uploader gave his own file 5 star. :rolleyes:

The dimension of the thumbnail is hardcoded to be (I think!) 100px with the height adjusting proportionally. In the next release, I'm going to add that as a variable in the admincp. Just a few questions, I have been removing bits of the code, to make it easier when I get ready to port it to the non vb page.

However I noticed the top contributers were not working, so I decided to remove that part, however i'm left with the template around it, but what would the best way to go about removing the template, and incorporating my own design. Because I tried to remove a template part, and the whole page went white with nothing on the page or I removed it and I couldnt see any of the text or info I needed.


I have been trying to remove everything that I will not need, so i'm trying to be left with just the latest files and Most Popular Files and nothing else on the page.

If you could help me try and remove those last few things, or give me some advice, that would be really good.

Yes it is compatible with vbSEO as i am using it on my site with vbseo however it does not make use of all the vbseo benefits, however if you search for downloadsII I have started a thread over at vbseo trying to make it better, and you will find out more there.

Yeah I had posted another thread over at vbseo as well, which was useful, i never got around to doing any custom code modification, as that got past me a little, but I did do the CRR as that is quite simple, however as there are about 3 people in the last few replys who are using vbseo, maybe we could work together to get the custom code done as that will really help with getting indexed.

I'll take a peek at it tomorrow. Time off with the family right now. :D

I changed the search query name, so I think you didn't reverted all the templates to reflect this change :)
Reverting all the DownloadsII templates should fix this.

I have installed it on 3.6.4, I am trying to import a file through import and i am getting the following warnings: Warning: opendir(/home36b/sub001/sc28591-FTHE/www/forums/admincp/downloads/stat.zip) [function.opendir]: failed to open dir: No such file or directory in /admincp/downloadadmin.php on line 290

and after clicking on the importfiles button, i get the following: Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /admincp/downloadadmin.php on line 337

And where are the files going to get imported to? Aldo i wasn't succesful to add a file due to above mentioned warnings, I do not see any changes on my forum or anything that can bring me to the file on the forum.

Sorry if i am being blind, can someone please help me out?

What is the exact path of the file you're trying to import? You've to put thw right path in order to import a file.

the path (that you put in the field on the import page) should be /home36b/sub001/sc28591-FTHE/www/forums/downloads/ without the file name at the end. Once you click "Import Files" you will get a listing of files in that folder.

I'm still having problems preventing downloads greater than 18mb from timing out. I've looked through every file i can think of including my php.ini looking for connection timeouts and maximum filesize etc. but I cant find anything.

it doesnt say that the connection timed out. it just says file complete but sometimes only half the file was downloaded.

This will now enable me to get it working.


However, I will be gone for 5 days (going to a wedding) so I am unable to do the last thing. The last thing will be to make it not use the vbulletin template at all e.g. no banner, not footer, no background etc. the only thing to show is both tables.

I remember last time I tried removing parts of the code, I got a blank screen, maybe if you get time over the next four days, if you could see what parts of the code need to be removed to do this and If some extra code needs to be written so it shows, could you do this or for a price?

Can we expect to see some major new features in the next few versions?

Here are some features on my wish list, from memory. :)

- multiple files or download mirrors
- multiple folders for downloads (so they don't all get uploaded to the same folder, which can be problematic when there are tons of files)
- Uploading a new file also deletes the old file, so obsolete files don't take up space
- More advanced search page
- Comment editing
- Comment reporting
- Add a category column on Member's Files and My Files
- Latest files module for the forum and non-vB main site? don't know if one already exists or not...
- Don't allow uploader to rate his own files... too many people give their own files 5 stars
- Report file (for broken link, bad file, etc)
- Pre-filled the Author field with uploader's user name when adding file

Thanks so much, that is exactly what I was trying to accomplish, now I'll try and implement the design from the cms, and implement it either directly into the code of the cms, or through this other way, (forgot name lol)

I just need to work out how to do it to other modules on vbadvanced now, hopefully I will be able to see how you have done the simple_tops.php file and hopefully not too many changes will need to be made.

Sure.
Here are a few things that cause problems at the moment

do=manfiles:
Sometimes there is the &act parameter sometimes not. Make sure it allways has the &act parameter so the rewriterule does not fail on it.

Myfiles uses the do=my parameter. Somehow the rewriterule fails on the "my" parameter.

The request to add the filename in the parameters is so we can read it from the parameters and make html filename containing it.
so you get http://www.mydomain.com/forums/file184-my-great-hack.html
Searchengines will then present the page containing the file sooner since the name is allready in the URL.
Just mind to strip the special chars. :)

Otherwise, you can simply include file/category titles in dynamic URL as Arjan mentioned above and vBSEO's "Custom Rewrite Rules" feature will take care of everything else. :)

Look in the plugins "Alert Mods to New File in Moderation" and "Alert Mods to Edited File in Moderation". The code needs to be added near the beginning of each of those plugins.

That's a browser issue, probably there's a standard target directory setting. So have a look at your browser options.

The author field is a bad thing indeed. That's our biggest problem now: dealing with Ron1n's code and database layout. Version 6 will be recoded from ground up because of this, so there will be a big upgrade script to do a lot of changes :p
We will be using the datastore cache (less queries), removing those double author fields, introduce downloads2 as the new product name (currently we are still using ecdownloads for the vBulletin product system, otherwise upgrades would be problematic), ...

No, currently download managers aren't supported, but we will look into this for version 6. And there's indeed file protection so you can't hotlink easily.

There's the DownloadsII PM moderation notification add-on (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=130536) :)
And you can set an e-mail notification for the pm.Good idea! That will work as long as the new files that are uploaded are being placed in moderation. Then, anyone who can manage moderated files can receive a PM/email.

A timeline would be more difficult, then you should keep storing ALL the downloads in your downloads log. For large sites this is impossible.

Adding custom field isn't possible at the moment (or you need to modify the code), but we are planning this feature ;)

I have a small problem, when setting a category for website images and only allowing images to be uploaded it does not seem to read the admincp settings for allowed images ie.. png jpg etc it keeps giving me you are not allowed to upload thoses extensions. When I added the image extensions to the allowed file extensions it worked. Not sure if this is a bug or I missed something in my settings or does the image extensions need to be listed in the file extensions too, just thought that was redundant.

I don't understand it really? You can place it in one of the three (or more, you can set that in the vBa options) columns of vBa CMPS. It's designed particularly for the left and right one, but you can always modify the adv_portal_ecdownloads template for your needs ;)

That's not possible very easy. It seems me more logical to count the amount of downloads casuse it's a download system :)

That's not possible at this moment. But ... the templates to do this is already avaiable, so you only need a small plugin to render it on the forum home. Another person also requested it some time ago, so I will look into this to create a small add-on for this ;)

I know it is a downloads system, but I am modifying it slightly to create a videos directory for my site, and the "download" part really wouldn't make sense as I don't allow them to download it, but your system works the best for what I want.

That would be great but hopefully vbux will last a while longer, I have the bad feeling that it wont work in the coming months after a few more vbulletin updates because it is no longer supported.

hmmm kinda same here..maybe next or next next release of vb...vbux wont be supported with that vb(3.6.8 or what ever)

in that case downloads II should be integrated with that points system which will be supported with that vb release or vb can give a thought with this huge popular Add-ons(vbux)

In order to use vbbux for my downloads, I've been forced to have the download button link to a post with an attachment rather than the file. The post's attachment is the file since vbplaza has the feature to charge vbbux for attachments. I have the forums the threads are in hidden so you can only get to them by going through the Downloads. I had all downloads cost different amounts based on file size and other criteria like type and popularity, but vbplaza only allowed setting a default cost, so I had to make database edits for the vbbux cost of each attachment individually.

But this all had to be done manually. It was such a pain and a roundabout way of doing it. I have just disabled new uploads until this integration hopefully with version 6.

And if enter editing any file and to change, for example, the description after preservation I receive such lines of mistakes:

I found a bug in the Downloads II plugin(I think). Maybe this has been answered, but I didn't find it.

When clicking on a members profile to see the files they have uploaded, one member has 4 pages worth of files. When I click on the next page to see the other downloads, nothing happens, it does not continue to the next page. Basically it is stuck on page one and will not show the other pages of downloads this member has uploaded.

I am wondering if this is because of the vBSEO plugin I am using?? When I hover over the next page, the link the url says "http://www.simracingdesign.com/members/jasonrsc.html"

I would like to figure this out so I can keep a watchful eye on the amount of downloads my staff are required to meet per month.

hello...check your script execution time & php max file upload size.
from ur vb acp..see ur php.info .
note that these are server side customization unless ur dedictaed server.

if yes..u have changed file size to 60MB from ur php.ini . but it cant overwrite the main php.ini

2ndly : what is ur script execution time. I gez it maybe +/- 30 Sec.

firstly contact ur Host provider and ask
1. max file upload size. [if u based on mp3 8MB is enugh]
2. script execution time.[its alos imp. if execution time is 30 sec and with in 30sec if ur file upload not finish.U will face error]
so plz collect these info...
If ur on vps or dedicated try increasing ur max file size + Script Execution time.

I have already reported a similiar bug to vbseo last week, infractions in members profiles where there was a second page would also not go to any other page. maybe you should report this one as well since its happening on your board, i dont think i have any members with 4 pages in there profile.

I had this same problem add another hack, whole site went white, couldnt log in to site or adminpc. I contacted vbulliten, they inreturn told me it was from a plugin I added and they dont support sites using mods not approved by vbulliten. But they did tell me to go to my site via ftp and to do the message below, but that didnt work. I then find out that somehow I overloaded my servers hard drive & it failed. To make matters even worse all my backups had corrupt files. Server hard drive was going bad way before I enter it. I tried everything to get it back, but ended up having to re-build. I lost 1000's, & 1000's of hours of work. Everything was rebuilt without being able to use any files from my old site folder,because they were corrupt. I was upset needless to say, but what could I do?
Listed below is what vbulliten.com told me to do, Hopefully this will help you pin point which plugin crashed your site. Good Luck.

Then reupload config.php to your forum's includes folder.

As for reading line numbers, there ae several free programs that allow

You should be able to log into your admincp, reactivate each plugin seperatly and refreshing your site after each reactivation to see if that particular plugin was the one causing the problem. Once you find it un-install it. Good luck, Hope this will help you out.

Okay. My web provider rebooted the server. Then I uninstalled the previous version of Downloads II. I reinstalled it, and all is well. However, it no longer recognizes the directory of downloads. The path is:

/public_html/b/downloads/

Then for the Download URL, I put in for the relative path:
/downloads
and I get:

I have these files in this folder, which I chmodded to 777. They are all .pdf files. I can link to them directly so I know they are there.

In this situatiob is it possible to Forward any Download Catagory /sub-catagory or sub-sub-catagory forwared to any url of host-2.
by clicking the catagory or sub-cat name user will be redirected to the custom url of host2.

well im not sure about these script errors, im also recieving errors with vbugtracker, and i KNOW now that these errors didnt exist before my site got moved.... but im not sure of exact time that something got messed up or WHAT got messed up.

so far it only seems to be the two hacks i mentioned having any problems, downloadsII and vbug tracker....

reinstalling them doesnt fix it either :\

It installed fine on my 3.6.4, however, I dont see any options except admincp>vb options>downloads.. There is nothing in usergroup manager etc..

chmod has been performed on the files from ssh etc..

First please excuse my bad english!

The mod is really great,
but i have one little problem with the description-images added to a download,
when you click on it, the 403 error message come up, cause the image-file didnt have
the right chmod... I have set the 2 Folders "downloads" and "ec_temp" to chmod 777, but i need to change every single description-image-file from chmod 600 to 644 to get the large image working :( Dont want to disable the description-images...
Why it dont set it automatic on my webspace?

The easiest way I found would be to use "abbr" for $this->url

Is there a way to implement that? I really would like to categorize the downloads folder. I have all sort of mp3, videos etc... By categorizing them, I could also allow people to "preview" before downloading, simply by dropping wimpy (http://www.wimpyplayer.com/) in that folder. When they are all in same folder, that's really no good for me. Right now I am forced to create 2 folders for same files

5. option to transfer the remaining quota to the next month if not used

All this could be combined with the quota in terms of kilobytes (already existing features) or not!

Having a control as it is now by limiting the kilobytes is OK. With the new feature, it would be a lot more flexible.

I read your add on feature amd if I am right, it seems a much better feature than V now but not exactly what i have in mind!

As you are a specialist in the attachment line, maybe you could tell me if such a plug in exits ..at all!

In "manage Files" the pagination does not work if none of the Drop Down Fields are selected.

When I select for example in the DropDown "Approval" all acepted files, the pagination works.

Here is a link from the pagination when the DropDown "Approval" is not selected:

downloads.php?do=manfiles&pin=0&approval=0&page=3

The variable approval is 0, after clicking this link i get only non approved files even the DropDown isn't selected.

Files larger than 2 or 3MB are giving an error when attempting to upload. I don't have any limits set.
