That's because there's no chmod for it at the moment and your server has a pretty strict umask (auto permissions given by the server).

While my main focus is on version 6, I thought it was time to get out a small update on the 5.0 branch. It includes two minor bug fixes and removes one (unnecessary) query on all DownloadsII pages.

It should work with all styles normally, as it's fully templated. What's the problem?

Nothing as of yet. I'm going to pick up a skin for my forums (looong awaited) and I wanted to check if there would be any reason why DowloadsII and the skin wouldn't jive together.

Just edit the file and change the category in the category dropdown menu.

For upgrading you need to use the overwrite function from the product system, as stated in the instructions. Uninstalling removes everything.

If you've got a database backup, you can restore the original dl_ tables.

Version 6 will be for vB 3.7 only indeed (no vB 3.5/3.6 support). But ... 10% of all the time for 90% of the work and 90% of all the time for 10% of the work. Finishing it is needing more time than I imagined.

Hi there,

I have one question.

I'm using the latest DownloadII Version and all seems to work fine.
But if I would upload am File that has an Filesize of 6,8Mb I got this error "The upload failed! Upload error."
By smaller Filez there seems no problem and works fine.

I have read a lot of posts here, but can't find an answer for my Problem :(

Anyone an idea ?

Maybe you read the wrong posts, because it's definately talked about a lot, but no problem.:)

Fair chance is that your host has the the maximum size of uploads to 2mb which is standard in php.
You can add a line to your .htaccess file or when this does not work, ask your hosting provider to set the php maximum upload size to a higher amount.

What are the major items being improved for 6.0?

A lot of small (and a bit bigger) things, but it's mainly a full recode of the old PHP/XHTML code. With that recode, it will be much easier to expand DownloadsII in future versions (and with better security).

I will release a version 5.0.8 with the new security tokens for solving the CSRF security issue fixed in vB 3.6.10/3.7 RC4. But you can upgrade already to those vB versions without any problems as the new security system is backwards compatible. The fixed version will be available within a few days.

@sweeps 78: It's running fine on RC4, I just upgrade myself last night with a running version of Downloads II and vb 3.7 rc3.

If you hate reverting and editting templates every upgrade like I do, just have a look at the TMS (template management system) which is also a mod here on vb.org.
It's 1 time a lot of work doing all template edits again, but after that you can upgrade vbulletin without having to revert and do the templates again every time.

Pay For Download Access Feature

Is there any chance in hell that you would consider adding an option to have specific downloads that you must pay for say using Paypal first that would then allow you to download the file only after payment is received.

This is by far the best download mod designed. Since coders seem unable to make a solid shopping cart for VB why not just add that to this mod. I think you would become the MOD God if you add this in.

Please consider this feature and then add it in soon! LOL :D

Anyone else with me on this?

NEVER uninstall the xml file !!!! or you will lose all your downloads Links !

Are you using GARS? If you also use the latest version of GARS, you will get the "Fields marked in RED must be filled in!" error when uploading a file. I provided a fix here (http://www.thevbgeek.com/showpost.php?p=23009&postcount=13) on the GARS forums.

Sorry for the stupid question, but I'm a little confused about upgrading... So, after we upload everything in the /upload folder, do we re-import the product-downloads.xml file that we just downloaded in the ZIP, or do we re-import a different XML file on our server?

strange.

i installed a new forum ( fresh 3.7-4)...and this hack is the first ima install on it.
i uploaded all files to their directorys and when i start to import the pruduct, i get this error :

That's strange as it's a clean install. There can't be a duplicated description field as it's created there for the first time (by renaming desc which was added earlier in the process).

Uninstall the product - if possible - and have a look at your database with phpMyAdmin. Remove all 8 dl_ tables if they are still present after uninstalling the product. Then try installing it again.

If you continue having this error, pm me your site URL and an admin account for it - if possible - and I will have a look at it.

Yes, there's a general option for it and a per usergroup overwrite using the usergroup permissions.

Download Delay
This is the minimum time in seconds that the user must wait between file downloads. If you set this number too low, your site could be open to a denial of service attack!

Download DELAY: Leave at -1 for this group to inheret the default value! If the user is in multiple groups that have the over-ride set above -1, the HIGHEST value will be the delay setting.

Does this work with 3.7.4?

Yes, except for the option profile (MEMBERINFO) template edits :)

Using phpMyAdmin, navigate to the dl_files table and change the name field in the structure. At the moment it's a 50 characters varchar field.

You probably modified the DownloadsII (5.0.8) templates and didn't revert them, so you are using pre-5.0.8 templates without the security tokens.

hya can you tell me what happens pls if:

i have one usergroup to have say 500 meg upload space each. i move a user to that group he then uploads 200 meg of files.

i then move him to another usergoup who cannot upload and then move him back again to the one that can does he get another 500 then or will it still count the files that he upped before?

if anyone can answer this that knows would be appreciated

The "upload stop" is calculated for every upload depending on the circumstances, so it's counting the files he uploaded before.

is there a way to make the upload faster?

A faster server or internet connection? :p
DownloadsII isn't limiting it, so it just depends from those two things.

i just installed a second hard disk on my server since my first one is full. However my question is how do i import the files to the second server since tey arent located in the directory. not using raid this time or ever

Putting them on another server is not possible with this version yet.
The only thing you could do is move them and then link to them. However, that would mean an awfull lot of work if you have a lot of files.
You could do it that way however with new files but only if you add them yourself and not your users, because uploads will still go to the upload directory when they don't know where to link to and how linking is done (you have to calculate the size of the file yourself).

Does it really time-out or does it just looks like it does?
This kind of behaviour can happen if you don't have the rights to upload more then xx mb.
Check you php_upload_size setting or ask your host. Probably it's lower then 10mb (a value of 2mb is standard in php).

You can upload as much as you want. PHP ships with a very restrictive 2M upload limit though. Unless you edit this setting and raise to to be something like 32M, there will be a PHP error. If display_errors is off, you won't see anything :(

Just be careful when you upload large files. If your internet connection goes in waves of speed (i.e. high speed for a few seconds, then trickles to a crawl, then back to a high speed, then trickle, etc.), you might have a hard time uploading large files.

Hi,

we updated the download plugin from 5.0.4 to 5.0.8.
In the ACP Add-on manager the version shown is 5.0.8. If I take a look into the downloads section the footer shows version 5.0.4.

During the update process there were no errors and everything looked fine.

Do you have any ideas? Was the update successful?

EDIT: The download plug-in works pretty good on vBulletin 3.7. Only question is about the version number?!?

All the downloads stats are working fine but inside of categories there are no more files descriptions, names and link to download.

I notice that if I go in manage files and click a file, I can see it with all its comments.
But if I reach the downloads via registered user, I can see the categories but when I click a category it displays empty.

2 days working on vbulletin to move it on another server and this is my last problem to fix.

I have a 4 vb license, I have this mod add to each site. One site http://outerzone.us I have an issue with this mod. All settings are the same per DL II on each site for Admin Usergroup.
The problem I am having is that when any Admin tries to download any item, they receive the following Message:
Sorry, you have exceeded your daily allowed limit.
But, I am not getting this message on my other vb sites.

Edit:Use strict daily download limits. If set to "No", a user will only receive receive a download limit reached message if BOTH the MB and file per day limit are reached. If set to "Yes", exceeding either limit will trigger the download limit reached message.
Was also set to no & no luck.

Any help would be appreciated.

It's the same thing. For now, download/upload directory which is above your documentroot is not supported yet.
Meaning you can't put it above your document root, see msg #2185 and the reply in #2186.

However you could try to put it on your other harddisk, then make a directory (f.e. downloads) in your document root on the first HD and then symlink this directory to your other directory on the other harddisk. I'm not sure, but if filerights are oke, there is a big chance this will work.
Otherwise you can't upload to that directory on hd2, but you can link to the files in there when adding files via the "link to file" option.

Put your forums offline, then re-upload all files and set overwrite to yes hardcoded in your ftp program if possible (with flashfxp you can).
Reimport the product file an set overwrite to yes and put your forums online again.
Often this methode helps fixing these kind of problems.

@TTG: You could have a try to do the same and see if things get fixed.

I wouldn't know where it is for a windows server you could use the search function.
For linux there exists a "locate" command.:)
Normally it should be in the /etc directory if you're working with linux.

You are running on Linux? Which Linux distro do you use?
Try this command from root:
locate php.ini
or
whereis php.ini

I would not advise to make one, because it has lots of entry's. A php.ini is -always- installed when installing php.
If it's not your own server, ask your webhost.

Since I have upgraded to version 5.0.8 from a version a few versions back, the upload function is broken.

I do fill Filename, Description, Category and then browse to the file on my harddisk.
But after upload it returns that the fields marked in red should be filled.
But not one field is marked.

You can find the solution in the first post :)

If you also use the latest version of GARS, you will get the "Fields marked in RED must be filled in!" error when uploading a file. I provided a fix here (http://www.thevbgeek.com/showpost.php?p=23009&postcount=13) on the GARS forums.

Maidos, can't you read or don't you believe what I tell you? It is NOT yet supported in this version, you can only store files in directory's of your documentroot.
Asking the same question over and over again, does not change the way things work.
So either symlink from your document root to that directory on the 2nd hd which I already offered you as possible solution, or wait until the new version is out.;)

I'm sorry Meidos, it that case it was an interpretation error on my behalve. I thought you were still asking how to do it with this mod while it's not possible. So I'm sorry for my comment that way.
In fact you are asking the coder (or somebody else) if he could supply a piece of code for you, so you can implement it yourself until the next release is out, correct?

That's correct, but if you symlink to the dir on the other hd you can protect that with chmod rights. However there's another solution if you have root on the system.
You could create another user and point the homedirectory of that user to a directory on the 2nd HD. Then you could symlink to that homedirectory without security risks because that users is chrooted too then, only thing left is to take care that your user also has upload rights on that users homedir.

But I agree with you that a php solution would be nicer. I hope Jelle can help you out with that.

@Darkblade: With this mod you can define how many mb or files a user is allowed to download. So I think the answer to your question is "yes".

You have to SSH to your box and use the symlink command.
Suppose you download directory is now /home/maidos/www/downloads and the directory on the 2nd harddisk is like this: /hdd2/downloads.
I just give the example /hdd2 here normally you don't even see if a directory is on another hd in linux because it mounts as a directory. But oke in this example the command would be (the /hdd2/downloads directory must already exist):
ln -s /home/maidos/www/downloads /hdd2/downloads
However you might need to have to correct owner rights on the /hdd2/downloads directory and for your own virtual dir in apache the directive for allowing symlinks must be on.
I found a nice piece of documentation on how to do it for ftp, there are also tips for mounting it instead of symlinking.

I hope this helps you further.
If you're not sure, just test with some directory's you made first.
To unlink: unlink symbolic_link

also is it just me or do me and my 20 users always keep getting timeout when downloading from this mods. I gave them a direct link without using the downloadsII downloading same file and no timeout issue. But when using this script they and myself get the timeout issue. Can anoyone confirm this issue please

Sorry I don't have a time-out issue so I can't help you with that. Maybe the php settings of the server have something to do with that.

As of the symlinking, it can't corrupt your files because symlinking can be more or less compared with creating a shortcut in windows. Only you make a shortcut to another directory.
But I just think of something, it could be advisable to move all files to the new directory first because all downloads will get in that new directory.

Files can not be corrupted, but it is advisable to make some test directory's and test with it first, so you can see for yourselve how it works and what it does, so you get more comfident about what you are doing.

The editor for the comments shows the smilies as a horizontal line but it is NEXT to the message box instead of under it. :) You can see the problem here (as well as the attachment): http://www.forumapex.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=14

Ever since I moved servers I always get a error:
ERROR FILE NOT FOUND when trying to download ANY of my files, when I check FTP all the files there are present, but when I try to download it gives me file not found error...

I am on latest version please help.

First of all, great add-on!

Here's a suggestion. I wish there was a separate 'version' field. Filename then should also be always shown as: filename field + ' ' + version field. Comments can then be tagged internally with the version number so it can be filtered accordingly -- a drop-down to show all comments or show only comments for a particular version.

Also, the Create New Thread Add-on will work better since it will only create a reply on the original thread when the version number is changed.

Other extra fields I would like to see:
1. License - Commercial, Shareware, Freeware, Open Source, etc.
2. Homepage - to add a link to the homepage of the software
2. What has changed since the last version - easy way to report what has changed without showing the full description

File not found? That can only happen if the database tag is gone, the files are not in their original locations or something of the setup of downloads II is not yet correct or files are not world readable.
You could check those. Maybe overlooked something, like filerights?

Okay, so I have a semi-request for the next release. Would it be possible (if not already) that when a file is "moderated" that the moderation staff and admins be sent notification of it? Many times on the site people have uploaded a file to update it, and someone else has tried to download it and it gives them an error. If I were emailed about a file change/upload, I could almost immediately take care of it.

If anyone wants to help me implement this, I'd be grateful.

uploading a file less the 1 mb i get
"The upload failed! Upload error."

and

at the top of the page "The download directory does not exist!"

but it does exist... i still have the default root path to the folder ./downloads/

and my site is setup like Sitename.com/ "VB root directory here and the downloads folder""

rar and zip files are in the extension list

it seems ppl can bypass the download restriction

i only set regular members 3 files per day and yet one member were able to download 6 files on one day.
that member did not have additional usergroup

This is a great mod!

I have a question. Due to the requirements of a software we're supporting (drag and drop directly into the software), we need to link directly to the uploaded file on the webserver.

By default, DownloadsII will pass the file through downloads.php. However, we want to link directly to the file.

E.g. if you upload "image.jpg", it should link directly to http://<webserver/downloads/image.jpg and not to http://<webserver/downloads.php?xxxx

I know to do this in the template, but I don't know what the variable is for the correct URL string.

Anyone help?

If I have several secondary user groups, this does not inherit the permissions of each user group. While one usergroup may be limited to categories 1,2,3 and another secondary group to 4,5,6 - if one of my users pays for both usergroups it doesn't inherit the permissions of both groups to enable to view the combination of both categories because it excludes categories in both groups.

Is there a possible fix or solution to this?

My users purchase products through the subscription which gives them access to download products as well as access to support forums for those products. Each usergroup is based on permissions and if they purchase two products, then two forums open to them and they are then a member of two usergroups. Each of these usergroups with separate download category permissions.

Thank you in advance for anyone who has encountered and possibly fixed this or knows of a solution.

This is a fantastic product though and much appreciate the time that went into it.

Have anyone got a solution for this?

It should be named .htaccess not .htaaccess. But if this is a typo and you have it in the .htaccess and receive the "Internal Server Error", then your host has not setup php and Apache that you can use these value's in a .htaccess file.
In that case you need to contact your host.

Since i updated to 3.7.0 i've been getting some weird bugs with this modification. Somehow spammers are able to submit files (as an unregistered user) even though unregistered users don't have access to add files. I even tested by logging out and trying to submit a file and it wouldn't let me, so i dont know how these spammers are doing it. Luckily i have moderation enabled for file submissions so the files dont actually get submitted. Still its annoying.

Anyone else have this happen to them?

That's not because of your vB 3.7 update, but because of a GARS update probably.
You can find the solution in the first post :)

How does the "Import" feature work? I have many files already uploaded and would like to put them in DownloadsII without having to download them then upload them again. That would kill my bandwidth.

Another question, if I have the need later on, can I create sub-categories and move files that are already uploaded to those sub-categories???

I cannot continue like this since the members will just go over the bandwidth allotment and i cant afford to pay overage fees

this member is only suppose to download 3 times per day
and now im seeing more user downloading more than 3 times per day. please please fix this

That's because of the default upload limit of PHP.

You need to create a file named .htaccess (note the period in front of the name). Put the following two lines into the file:

php_value upload_max_filesize 30M
php_value post_max_size 30M

Upload the file into your forum directory (the same location where downloads.php is located.)

This will increase the size of the file you can upload to 30MB.
This is either not working for me, or I don't know how to create the file. Can someone help me please.

Actually, anyone can change their php.ini
max upload size. Most host have added the php.ini file to most if not all folders within your domain. If you find you dont have one in each folder, simply add it by copying the one in your root.

I finally got it to work but the .htaccess file did not solve the problem. Thanks to blind-eddie for pointing me to the php.ini file.

I added the red code to my php.ini file and now all is well with the uploads:

You already asked this three times now and the answer stays the same: the current version is already compatible with it. Also the navbar template edits are still working fine, the code part to search for in that template is still there.

Only the additional memberinfo template changes need an update, which will be in version 6.

For adding it to the navbar, please note you need to search for the second line provided in the Readme-Install.txt (because vB 3.7 is higher than vB 3.6.7), so you need to search for

in the navbar template (which is there for sure if you didn't changed it or so) and below that you place:

The first memberinfo template change doesn't work anymore like I said, but the second (with $footer) still does. Also the postbit template change still works, just do a template search.

1. That's possible, but only for the width as the height is calculated for keeping the image ratio. Also this doesn't work for images you already uploaded, you can't recalculate their thumbs at the moment.

Open downloads.php
Find four times (lines 851-861)
100
Replace with
250

You can set $newheight to 250 also if you really want, but then you loose a correct image ratio like I said.

2. That's not a real future, just a template change of downloads_main. You can add such things where you want.

Is the downloads folder located inside your vB forums directory? You can't place it outside of it. Also the Download URL setting should be ./downloads/ (don't forget the period in front of it).

If it doesn't work, pm me with your site URL and a (temporary) vB admin/FTP account if possible.

how can I protect my downloads folder? Some other sites are leeching files from our server directly. Most files are linked, because they are to big to upload (50-600 MB).
I can't use the .htaccess setting "DENY". The server software "Confixx" doesn't allow the option.

Please help me.

If you also use the latest version of GARS, you will get the "Fields marked in RED must be filled in!" error when uploading a file. I provided a fix here (http://www.thevbgeek.com/showpost.php?p=23009&postcount=13) on the GARS forums.

There won't be marked anything in red. It's just GARS causing it. Just apply the temporary fix (http://www.thevbgeek.com/showpost.php?p=23009&postcount=13) I linked here above in the quote.

It will be fixed totally in v6 with a new error checking method.

I'm having the same issue with the security token....only, there's no way for me to revert....the downloads template hasn't been changed at all...it's still black (not red like a modified one)

this appears to be related to file size....no?

it looks like the security token is added toll templates that have value="$session[sessionhash]"....

Also, I'm noticing that the smilie box doesn't move on the downloads templates even if you have the smiliebox below editor mod installed (like it is here on vBulletin).

Any chance of incorporating that?

If you have that mod installed, it lets you show more smilies without breaking the way the page looks....but if you go into the downloads section, the same number of smilies show up only to the side of the editor box....which causes the page to look all funny...

Any ideas how to fix it?

I have uploaded tons of files on my site using this...however since I have updated to vbulletin 3.7 this is my first upload... when I try uploading a file on there now, it will do the normal upload routine but when it is done it goes back to the blank form like I havent uploaded anything so I can upload another file...the file I uploaded...never appears anywhere??

Hi, i have had this installed and impoted the files and have working link in nav bar.

But the problem is when you click on the link you get: Jedi-Jakeyboy, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons: etc...

Hi.

I'm having trouble uploading images. I selected allow images in the D2 manager, plus enabled adding images as an option for admins.

When I try to upload an image, I get a blank page. But I know the images are being sent to my /downloads/ folder because I can view them on my server.

I'm still wondering about implementing a real notification system for this. I'd like to select groups of users (admins, moderators, super mods, etc.) that are to be notified (via email, not PM) that there is a new download (whether in the moderation queue or not). Is there no way to add this to the current item?

Will that be a feature of the next incarnation of DownloadsII (DownloadsIII?)? I wonder because it's a needed feature for boards that moderate all uploads prior to release (for security reasons).

Of course, being able to add multiple files (just like screenshots) would be nice. For example, a downloads section like: Simple Machines Mods (http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=548). Just a suggestion...

You should use usergroups for that. When users have x number of posts they get promoted to a usergroup that can download files.

i knwo that i dont want them to access all the files just certain ones and from what i see thats not possible ..unless u create a category in the DL's for each individual file...n thats just dumb

I cant seem to find in the template MEMBERINFO where to put the first "$dmemberinfo" thats needed for stats to show. I am running VB version 3.7.1 and when I search the template I come up with nothing. Please help! Ive tried searching all different kind of ways. Apparently the template has changed alot in 3.7.1 and what you search for in the template of MEMBERINFO needs to be changed or updated so you can find where to place the first $dmemberinfo at???

Is there a way to get rid of the Author field on both the input and presentation pages? The way I plan to use this MOD in my forums will have the author and person uploading the files as the same person, so I do not need the Author field. For my application it confuses my users.

How do I remove the Author input field so it doesn't show in the input form and change the text to show Submitted By on the presentation page?

Lastly, is there a way to allow for multiple attachments on the same item. For example, I plan to use this MOD to allow my members to contribute GPS files. There are several formats for GPS files, so many of my members submit a file in one format, while the next member will convert the file to another format and contribute it to my site. This produces multiple files for the same area but in different file formats. I would like the ability to have a topic in the Downloads that has several files (not images) attached to it and allow those to be submitted by different members. Is that possible with this MOD? With some minor changes to the MOD is it possible?

The answer from 'Black Tiger' is:
Put your forums offline, then re-upload all files and set overwrite to yes hardcoded (user the force-overwrite) in your ftp program if possible (with flashfxp you can).

Often this methode helps fixing these kind of problems.

But in my Situation I can't re-upload all files becuase there are more than 700 files!!
Althougth number of download is 12,400 until now, I think it will be zero when i reupload the product, isn't it?

I use the product in an offical website for a university, Now no student can upload any file and I am looking for support, we can pay for this help !!
becuase vBulletin.com don't support this product as they said !!
