I am not able to import files with the import option in the downloads menu in the ACP. When I would specify the direct file path, I would do import and I would not get any files to upload at all. What am I doing wrong?

I have searched in many posts but can't find if the question is asked already. So here it is:

Numerous members report to us daily that the system triggers them for exceeding download limits (normal members we have assigned 150MB per day, 200MB upload, number of files -1, stictly download limits enabled).
After testing it myself with a normal member account i draw the same conclusion. After downloading a file of 36MB it wont let me download anything anymore, while i should have 114MB left for that day.

I am very very grateful if anobody can offer a solution for this problem, cause it's driving me nuts at the moment :)

Edit: running version 5.1.0 on a vB3.8.0 install!

check your permissions and also check to see if you overwrote any downloadsII files when you did the upgrade.

1. NO one can access the downloads area cept admins
2. set up a special user group (with access to the downloads)
3 (Registered Members group) set it so after a Minimum amount of posts in the forums the user get promoted to (the user group you just made)

simpler terms
User signs up (registered Member) --->... makes 5 post in the forums.....1 minute later the the user is now in a (special group) and he/she can access the downloads

Ah I like that. Good thinking. I should have thought of that. I might have to change the phrase of the denied message to make them aware to post the min before downloading. Thanks!

Just found this would require the User Promotions in Scheduled Task Manager to be one minute then. Is this a problem? Is there anyway to just have it instantly update?

How can I removed the Site Message or Disclaimer I've removed everything in the Site Message or Disclaimer box in the downloadII settings in the administration CP but the column to the left of the download section is still there.

First reason, you need to set a higher wait_timeout variable in your my.cnf (and restart MySQL afterwards). As the queries take place after the long upload.

Ok REALLY PISSED at my host but I'm trying to calm down. Apprently BLUEHOST (http://www.bluehost.com) does not let you change the my.cnf file and can't do anything.

I need to locate an addon or plugin that doesn't keep a MySQL connection open the entire time. Sorry for being a pest but this whole experience is likely causing me to cancel bluehost all together but before I do so I want to see if theres a way around this.

Hi, I was also wondering how to make it so the "preview pic" on the side redirects to the download page. All my files are hosted off server, I noticed on your site clicking on the "preview pic" makes it redirect to the actual download page of the file. Whereas on mine when someone sees the list of files and clicks on the "preview pic" it redirects them to the page of the file that is hosted off server and not vbulletin. Like this:

See the pics on the side? Clicking them brings you to the download page of the addon. On mine they bring you outside the site. I want users to be able to see the info by clicking on the pick, rather than being brought outside the site so quickly.

Just installed this having used it on forums elsewhere - excellent mod !

Couple of questions (being a vBulletin Admin noob) :

1) increasing the file size - the .htaccess file - what filetype is this ? (sorry, not a web programmer etc)

2) I have a user who wants to make an ebook available for download. This has a folder structure etc and lots of hi-res pics in it - total about 320Mb (half a cd). Is it practical to make this available via Downloads II on a forum or not ? If so, best to offer as an iso file ? He has a pdf but the images are compressed and as it's about photographic art he really wants to have the hi-res pics available

3) assuming the above ebook is made available - likely impact on forum performance when users downloading (not likely to be many at any one time) ?

Hoping someone can help!

I recently moved service providers and since the move when anybody goes to download a file it comes up with the following error:

ERROR: File not found.

The directory is /forum/downloads

In the config it's set to ./downloads/

I can add files and it will place them in the downloads folder.

I can access the files directly by going to /forum/downloads/filename yet downloads app can not seem to find them?

Any ideas?

I've also replaced ./downloads/ in the config with the physical location of the directory /public_html/etc etc etc and still the same error.

Sorry for the PM's. I figured out how to install highslide but have no idea how to put it into the <img> tag in downloads.php or what part to edit. I also have a few questions. I got highslide to work on the forums, and I'm trying to make it so JUST the image pops up. Not the black background or anything I got that to work by changing:

But ok, Vbulletin should seriously provide some support for 'highslide' because it's not easy to get working at all. I just took the highslide settings from your site RS_Jelle I hope you don't mind so ignore my last post.

RS_Jelle how do I edit the category of the actual download? I have no use for the field "Author" so I wanted to remove that. But I also want to add a "Version" field, and a "Quality" field. You know how a field like "File Name" or "Size" etc...

Also, I looked everywhere in this thread but the question was never answered: "How do I get the category image to the left instead of underneath the description?"

Along with another question when I try to upload .bmp files as the image to the download I get Fatal error: Call to undefined function imagecreatefrombmp() in /home/shujinan/public_html/forums/downloads.php on line 850


I listed bmp as my image format and even switched imagemagick but it still doesn't work.

I'd also like to add that unless someone is very familiar with coding. editing the <img> isn't all that easy. In downloads.php there are over several <img> tags, which one do I edit, what do I edit? Am I taking something out? Adding something in? Where do I add whatever I'm adding in?

I'm attempting to use the Import feature to add in over 300 mp3 filesthat are about 60-100mb a piece.

However when hitting the Import button the page refreshes to a blank page and says Done at the bottom of the browser.

I had the files already in the directory the Downloads mod is set to in the settings. Do I need to move them elsewhere?

On the file description I have an MP3 BBcode...however in the file list it just shows as "http://www.domain.com/file.mp3" is there anyway to get it so it doesn't show this file URL? I don't want the BBcode to be seen either but anything else would be fine.

You don't need any template edits with version 5.1.0. It's using the template hooks. Just enable the profile features in the DownloadsII options ;)

That's caused by the vBa CMPS integration you are using (if I'm right?). Strange, cause normally that should work. It's working fine on some sites I know.

happens when i import.

That's caused by another mod, which is using the template_compile hook location (look for it at the plugin manager). Maybe vBOptimize if you use that (but I'm not sure, as I don't know that mod very well).

On our install we have comments switched on and the smile box is to the right side of WYSIWYG Editor,could you plz direct me on how to place the smiles box underneath the WYSIWYG Editor like here on vborg ?
we have a mod installed on our main forum which does this and want the same look in downloadsII.

Is there a way to show the main page, ie with the downloads categories showing to all usergroups, but when a category is clicked on, the permissions come into play, and the user cannot see the files list in that category.

I dont want to exclude people from seeing the categories, but i dont want them to see files in the categories, until i place them in a new usergroup.

All files probably, mostly downloads.php, but this isn't how DownloadsII is designed. It's a downloads manager, not a salary tool.

Maybe i need to explain a little better.

Everyone can see the downloads area homepage. Ie, category name with the cataegory icon beside it, although i still need to be able to hide a category in the homepage unless they are a subscriber in a new usergroup, as this allows now.

When unregistered, or regular members then click on the categories, they cannot see even the list of files. They then get the access error message.

Basically i need them to see the categories before getting the access error, and not before they see the category list.

Have installed the mod a while ago, it has been working perfectly for about 3 weeks with almost 800 downloads.

Since yesterday - all of a sudden - members started to report broken links to all files listed for download.
The error message: "ERROR: File not found."

Have checked the download directory, the files are physically on the server.

Re-uploading files is not the remedy - still the same error message.
Re-installed mod with overwrite - still the same error message.

Has anybody else experienced the same problem?
Any solutions?

Great mod...I'm finding though that a lot of files are timing out during the upload. For instance I tried to upload an mp3 file...tries to upload for about 5 minutes and then times out. Is there any way to fix that?

You need to start by adding categories in the AdminCP.

Hi great Mod no issues but i had asked earlier page 225 if there was a way to see the status of a file being uploaded instead of it looking like the page has hung, there is the progress bar at the bottom of windows but this reaches the end and the file is still uploading. Is it working that way for everyone??? Other than that i'm happy with it thanks to the devs:up:

Thank you for the reply...I did update counters several times and still no go (on the day I originally posted).

I've been offline for a couple days, decided to try and tackle this again, and the data was updated. So problem fixed 'I guess". I'm just not sure as to why it took so long to update the information but it seems to be working now.

Just curious, has anyone else had an issue with delayed data updates in this mod?

No disrespect to the creator intended, I've actually been using this mod for a couple years...I just recently converted a portion of my site back to vB, hence the fresh install of this mod.

Another solution is to just download some file from download section, or just change little picture for one file you have uploaded.
That also rebuild counters...

You need to include /includes/class_downloads.php in your forum home (using a plugin) to be able to use the $dl class. Then you can put {$dl->stats['files']} (and others) everywhere you want in a forum home template.

Try adding a plugin to the forumhome_start hook location with this content:

(I didn't test it, but it should work normally.)

working wonderfully. I tried to use: {$dl->stats['bandwidth']} but it seems the bandwidth variable is only used in downloads.php, in the do=stats function.

It would be great if someone could make a true forumhome stats vbulletin mini-product for DownloadsII so that we can display stats like:


total files
total categories
total diskspace used
total bandwidth
total contributors
etc.

I did have to reinstall the plugin after some database issues after the server move.

Btw, it's a very nice addition to my forum, the members love it:D

That image isn't used anywhere in the DownloadsII code. It's only using /images/buttons/download.gif ;)

Hi guys, Last night i managed to break this mod.

I dont know what ive done tbh but now, everytime i click on the "downloads" it reopens to the homepage with cmps but "downloads" in the white bar below navbar.

Last night i added: a tag cloud to cmps, the downloads stats to cmps, a new site navigation to cmps. nothing really major but may have over written a portal or something with the site nav mod.

Ill try disabling cmps and see if its a mod on there thats doing it.

Any help would be appreciative.

I'm having an issue after uninstalling this mod.

If I go to my downloads.php page on my site, http://glitchpc.com/downloads.php, I get a 404 error code. No problem there.

However, if I go to a previous file location, such as http://glitchpc.com/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=10, then it displays a blank page.

I'm going to be re-installing this when the developers have updated it, but at this time...I uninstalled it and I'm not sure why the page is loading blank if the mod has been uninstalled.

Ok i have found two problems so far..Can you explain this to me and see we can find a sollution

1. when im trying to import a file from admin section im getting this error

We released version 5.0.5, try upgrading to that version first. Also try the "Update counters" feature, maybe that helps.
Have you set any of the "Number of "xxx" to Display" settings to 0 or made a typo there?



You need to specify a folder to import (multiple) files from. For example /home/zetaf/public_html/forums/uploads/3x3_eyes/ if it exists.
For adding one file, you better use the Add button on the public pages of the downloads section.

I have a few suggestion, if it's already been suggested I do apologize.

Search: The searching for the downloads section is fine, but it's not that great. When searching for a file, if you have the same name for more than 1 category, it displayed the same name. Maybe you can have it pull the main category instead of the child category. This way people who which file or file(s) these are coming from.

Mirrors: I know people have suggested this and you guys are working on that. Just wanted to add I would also like to see it. :)

Author: When posting files, if the author isn't signed up on the site prior to you addin the file, they aren't recognized. This is a big issue, cause I will then have to go and search for all the authors files, edit and post so it displays a link to his/her profile. Maybe add an option to run updates or have a cronjob automatically update those at set times.

Author List: I would like to personally see an authors list ie. if I look up a file or file(s) it will bring up all the file(s) made by that specific author.

Again, if any of those have been addrested, I do appologise for not searching. I hope you do consider a few or all of these. :) Keep up the good work and I look forward to the updates.

Just check the usergroup permissions of the Unregistered users group? There's a "Can View Files" permission :)

Hello yes thats all great. I finally got to upload a 90G file but it took about 20 mins. So no worries there. I did find the link to the navbar. I just cant believe i missed it. Well keep up on your education since that does come first.

What would be nice is

1. See a upload status bar of some kind
2. be able to use a different server instead of downloading from my main server.

i installed as you said but after installing i gave usergroup permissions and saved them but after saving i got another usergroup with same name and the options i edited in this havent saved


example: i edited for moderators and save them but after saving i got another usergroup named moderators in custom usergroups and the modifications havent saved in the orginall usergroup

Probably there's another mod interfering with DownloadsII. Which mods you installed are using a admin_usergroup_ hook location (look at the plugin manager)?

4. There's a copyright because it's our work and we do it for free. vBulletin itself also has a copyright and it's commercial software.
Why can't you remove it? Because DownloadsII is based on ecDownloads (its coder left vB.org and the mod contained security issues) and the ecDownloads license requires this. Because of this v6 will be a full recode.

So in other words, you can't pay for removal because it's not his copyright to make money off of. A not too uncommon occurrence here on vB.org.

This is why I say folks should make sure they understand everything about a situation before criticizing people over it. Not everything that can be done by other coders can be done by all coders.

They are both using that same template for the bits. Try clicking "Update Counters" to empty the cache.

You can set all that in your Usergroup Permissions. Limit your regular users permissions. Then use vB's subscription service to where they have to subscribe to be put into a usergroup that has unlimited permissions.

We can?t move files to another category.
Everytime we try through edit the files are gone.

The following warning is shown:

Set the new folder correctly in the DownloadsII settings (warning: you can't move it outside your forums folder!). Check if it has the 777 chmod (writable). Then try removing the ec_temp subfolder of the downloads folder, if it still doesn't work. Finally you could check the chown permissions.

There's only one button for submitting both the text information and the file. If you linked a file, you will see the url when you edit the file. If you uploaded a file, both field will be empty, but you should be able to submit the form without filling them. Then the old, uploaded file will be preserved. Normally it can't be gone if you don't fill in the upload/link field when renaming/moving/...

If it does, please pm me your site url and a login/password with download edit permissions, so I can check it out.

At this moment, only the downloads log is pruned. Statistics (which are not very great, I know) are meant to stay, although you can prune (or even empty) the dl_stats table yourself using phpMyAdmin.

Wanted to thank the coder for this excellent mod. We use this on our site for a while and it is very heavily used. I really LOVE the ability to set a time between downloads for different usergroups. My members have asked for a couple of things regarding this mod... So, I have a couple small questions and also a couple of small suggestions for the next version if at all possible.
Question 1:
How would I get ALL downloads to sort by Alpha?

Request 1:
I am not sure if it has been requested or not, but for the next version my members would like to be able to have alphabetical navigation. Perhaps instead of page numbers be able to jump to jump to files that begin with the letter A for instance. A, B, C, D, E, F, etc...

Request 2:
I would also like to see a field that would be on the submission screen that can be added by the uploader tha can point to a "Support" type thread. On my site, we require users to create an announcement/discussion thread before submitting an upload. I would like to be able for people when downloading a file to see (and be able to click) the link to the "support" thread on the forums.

Request 3:
An option to create a new thread in a specific forum when a new download is added would be nice as well. I know that there is an add on for this, but official support would be nice. :D

As you may want to keep your statistics. That's the point about statistics, otherwise they would be useless :p
vBulletin itself is also logging registration, new thread, post, ... stats.

That's not possible at this moment. But there's a vBadvanced CMPS add-on and you can integrate the CMPS on your forumhome.

Some forumhome integration might be added in the future. As 5.1.0 already integrates in the navbar (button, search), postbit and user profile (stats, list).

R3. The add-on is "official" as its coded by CyberRanger, coauthor of DownloadsII.

The storage and download part is the last unfinished thing of v6. I was basing it on the attachment system, but with vB 4 coming soon, I stopped working on it. vB 4 will have the new asset manager (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/blog.php?u=224), so I'm going to look how integration with that goes.

I also hope they are going to fix the lightbox integration :D

It seems that the vB devs changed the name of one of the plugin locations. Go to the plugin manager, find the downloads_cron_script_cleanup plugin and click edit. Set the hook location to cron_script_cleanup_hourly (previously it was called cron_script_cleanup).

Will be fixed in the next release ;)

You can only install it once ;)

But there are usergroup permissions to exclude/include categories:

Exclude Categories: When set to "Yes", only the categories listed below can be viewed by this group. When set to "No", all categories can be viewed except the ones listed below.

To permit this usergroup to view all categories, leave this entry BLANK. Otherwise, enter the categories to include or exclude (depending on the setting above) separated by commas. For example: 1,2,4,6

Strange, as the downloads_wrapper_top template doesn't have the message in it. Maybe you modified it?

Line 5721 is the global_complete hook location and shareads() isn't a DownloadsII function. Check your plugin manager for mods (probably an ad manager?) using that hook and give me the PHP code of the plugin.

I can't tell you a lot more than the error says. If the table is crashed, you need to try repairing it. Try doing this with phpMyAdmin.

As the dl_downloads table is only a log table, you could drop it and recreate it (with all its fields).

DownloadsII isn't meant for classified information. It's just a community mod, not something for NASA :D

but theres anti hotlinking scripts on the net for a reason. also agree but if your server got compromised by say /tmp exploit the hacker can easily go to /downloads directory and copy all file links and hotlink to the internet and that would be a disaster not to mention webmaster that use your mod with over 500 000 files. so i also beg you to implement a good antihotlinking solution

Right now i would like to have different permissions for uploading within the same uploading section.

For example there will be a "public uploaded files" category and an "admin uploaded files" category. Obv the public wont be able to upload in the admin area, but can still see the files, whereas the admin can upload/veiw anything.

Is there a way limit permissions by the exact category?

i guess you dont understand... The actual navbar. The navbar you created. It has main, tree, my files, add and that shit on there... Not the vbulletin navbar. Say i want to get rid of just the tree link how do i do that?

That's because of the default upload limit of PHP.

You need to create a file named .htaccess (note the period in front of the name). Put the following two lines into the file:

php_value upload_max_filesize 30M
php_value post_max_size 30M

Upload the file into your forum directory (the same location where downloads.php is located.)

This will increase the size of the file you can upload to 30MB.

My hosting company setting in a manner that PHP acts as CGI and they don't increase the file upload size more than 10 MB, they told me to use ftp for uploading my file! they don't understand that i can not create ftp account for each of my forum users!, is there any way or any upload center hack that uses ftp for upload file to upload center at least by mods and admins?

I recently found a major bug with this mod concerning "Additional Usergroups".

Settings:
Custom Usergroups: A, B and C.
Categories: 1, 2 and 3.

Premissions:
Usergroup A can access Category 1 only. Usergroup B can access Category 2 only and Usergroup C can access Category 3 only.

Scenario:
I set UserXXX Primary Usergroup to A. With this, UseXXX can access Category 1. Then I edit UserXXX and check Usergroup C as his Additional Usergroup.

Expected Result:
UserXXX can have access to Category 1 and 3 because he's on Usergroup A and Additional Usergroup C.

Actual Result:
UserXXX can only access Category 1.

Bases:
My "Expected Result" is based on how a user can have permissions on a certain forums.
For example:Usergroup Z can access Forum 100 and Usergroup Y can access Forum 101. Then if a VBUSER is belong to Primary Usergroup Z and have Additional Usergroup Y, then he can access both Forum 100 & Forum 101 - hence the word "Additional". This should also how DownloadsII will work, but not as of current testing.
