I think you all 3 have rights problems. That's the reason people get notices they can't download or can't download anymore.
Check your usergroup rights permissions. Doublecheck if people are not also in other usergroups with less rights.

I view that, in my forum, when acces to Dwonloads, in the title of navigator, appears: MY forum name - My Downloads.
In others sites, I view that, in the title of navigator appears: Forum name - Downloads.
I search for change this for default value, but I don't view the option.

There's the "Title" setting for that ("Enter a title for your downloads section").

i guess you dont understand... The actual navbar. The navbar you created. It has main, tree, my files, add and that shit on there... Not the vbulletin navbar. Say i want to get rid of just the tree link how do i do that?

You need to edit downloads.php for that at the moment. You can find it at the top of the code (after the includes).

No, they work separate. Maybe I'm integrating it with vB 4 (with the asset manager).

I followed the steps from the installation instructions (those that I could - read on) and have no Downloads menu item in my forum. Is there something I have to do to create that menu item?

Note: I'm on an IIS server. I could not perform a chmod 777 on my downloads folder as that is only available to *nix users. I'm working with my web host to set the permissions on that folder. Could this be the reason I have no Downloads menu on my main forum page?

Second Note: I'm not exactly sure I understand what "Create directories in the 'Categories' menu under the 'Downloads' in your admincp" means. I created a category by selecting the Categories menu under Downloads but I don't see any way to create a directory from there...

OK, I'm feeling real foolish. It seems that I uploaded everything BUT the downloads.php script. I've uplodoaded it and now there downloads page displays properly. I still don't have a link on my navbar for the downloads area so I assume I need to add that manually (no problem, I can do that). Larger uploads seem to time out. I seem to recall reading a fix for that in the thread somewhere. I'll go looking for it. Definitely need a progress bar for uploading. Is there an add-on for this?

My web host changed the permissions on the folder for me so I should be all set.

This really is a great mod but I have a few things I'm trying to do to customize it for my site. I'd really appreciate it if I could get some help with the following:

Is there any way to display a progress bar while a file is being uploaded?
I want to change frame on Add File page to read "Upload a file", not "Upload or link to a file". I see that the phrase "Upload or link to a file" is in the product-downloads.xml file. I'm guessing I'd need to edit that file and reinstall to make this change. But I'm not sure how to go about that. For that matter, I'm not sure how to uninstall but if I did uninstall and reinstall I'm assuming I'll lose every customization I've made up to this point, right?
I'd like to move the downloads folder to a location that a visitor can't access from their browser (outside the web site directory but on the same server). Can this be done?
I'd like to lengthen the File box to on the Add a File page permit a longer path display.
When a file is uploaded an "Author" box is displayed (though it isn't in the correct tab order for some reason). I'd like this to default to the vBulletin user's ID. I'd also like to be able to change the string to read something other than "Author".
On the "Add a File" page the Category drop-down list is defaulting to "----------". I only have one category. I would think it would default to that rather than defaulting to "----------".

I'm having trouble updating some of the templates. I have modified the downloads_panel_bit template but only the latest files section has updated and the popular files hasn't.

I have Updated Counters numerous times. Sometimes it does actually use the new template but 9 times out of 10 it is using the old one (as shown in screenshot).

I've searched this thread and not found a way to update the counter in the postbit. My test user has uploaded 5 files. All counts show that there are 5 files, except in the user postbit, it shows three.

I tried running the query "UPDATE dl_main SET downloads = 0" as posted here, but that did not fix the postbit counter. Any thoughts?

I seem to be having an issue where I have 4 download categories and several user groups. Some user groups have access to a few categories and other user groups have access to other categories. If I have a user that has access to multiple user groups then that user can only see his download category not everything.

So if I have download categories A, B, C, and D and I have user groups 1, 2, and 3:

Usergroup 1 has access to downloads A, and B
Usergroup 2 has access to download C
Usergroup 3 has access to download D

If I have a user that has access to usergroup 1 he can see downloads A and B - Perfect
but if I add usergroup 2 to his profile then all he sees is download C - Not so good

Now usergroup 1 download permissions are set to show categories A, B
usergroup 2 download permissions are set to show only category C

It seems that downloadsII uses the most restrictive permissions on usergroups to decide which to display instead of being inclusive.

I spent about a week implementing and evaluating both DownloadsII and Links and Downloads Manager (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=216118). I really like the layout of the DownloadsII file area better than LDM. The presentation is better and it's more intuitive. But the absense of a progress bar made it a choice I couldn't go with. LDM has a very well implemented progress bar for uploads so the user's browser doesn't just sit there churning with no feedback during large uploads. In addition, LDM's developer is more responsive in his forum. Of course, DownloadsII's developer does this for us all for free so it isn't fair to complain. But (at least at present) it seems LDM is better supported.

If DownloadsII ever adds a progress bar like LDM's I'll probably switch over.

I am trying to add my IntelliTEXT (Vibrant Media) ad's into the downloads mod. But I am having trouble making them show up. I use conditions so that the ad's aren't everywhere on my site, just on the showthread template. But I want to add them to my downloads as well.

What should the condition look like or more to the point, which template should I be using for the if condition?

I had one question. My 'collapse_tcat_collapsed.gif' image is a very light image that doesn't work against the background of the 'download area' (see attached image).

How can I change the path? I want to change the image to something else and need to point it to another image.

Take a look at the permission settings for each Usergroup.

You can set the following in the Usergroups:
1. You can set maximum MB upload
2. You can set maximum MB download
3. You can set maximum number of files a user can download
4. You can use strict daily download limits which are triggered by the maximum MB or the maximum number of files.

Sadly I cut out the downloading aspect of files from the computer. What hapens is members can only put up links. These links can't have a limit because they have no size and I want guests to be able to view them as well. I was hopeing I could test the author of the download and not count a followed link.

Are your members linking to executable files?

If so...why not give the links a file size and use bitcalc (http://www.matisse.net/bitcalc/) to determine the correct size of the linked file in bytes.

Then give guests and whatever other usergroup permission to download files using the permissions I described in my last post.

Because they are not files they are web pages with downloads to consoles for custom created content. I don't want to put a limit on how many files a member or guest can go and download. I thank you for trying though. But there are other sites like mine who don't count the downloads and have posters just add their own links. I'm trying to stay ahead with this unique idea and a way to count the downloads from my site. I think I have found a way to simply hide the button from the thread starter but if they log out I can't do much about that. But ill keep messing around and see if I can test the usergroup to add downloads.

The files are probably in the moderation queue. Check your usergroup permissions (Can Avoid Moderation Queue, Can Manage Moderation Queue).

Ok, by changing this portion of the DOWNLOADS.PHP

It resolved the issue.

Well I keep getting a white screen on uploading and nothing happens, so I started with a smaller file the maximum I'm getting it to accept is 1.5mb. Now my php settings actually allow me to upload 250mb and I run video's etc and a gallery so I know my .php settings are well covered.

How do I change the time out settings ?

Well I have finaly got everything smoothed out. Its woorking great, the one suggestion I can bring from my forum is to have the downloadsII thumbnails link to the full discription and not the actual downloads file. Since I use thumbnails in threads that do this they are adjusted to clicking a thumbnail to read more but end up pulling up a download file all the time. Its nothing too jurastic but I think it would be a good future option.

That's because of the default upload limit of PHP.

You need to create a file named .htaccess (note the period in front of the name). Put the following two lines into the file:

php_value upload_max_filesize 30M
php_value post_max_size 30M

Upload the file into your forum directory (the same location where downloads.php is located.)

This will increase the size of the file you can upload to 30MB.
What kind of file needs to be made for this?

Is it possible to setup the Download URL to be on another server, if so how would I do this ?

For example
Server 1: VBulletin and all addons, including Download II
Server 2: Files for Download II.

Would I just change the Download URL to something like:
http://www.server2.com/downloads/ ?

If someone uploaded would that go on server 1 or server 2 ?

Adding An Customize Column To DownloadsII?

i got a problem:

downloads which are added/uploaded via Frontend or imported via ACP (and therefore have their direct link hidden while downloading ) do simply stop after a certain while, it seems around somewhere of the 5 minute mark. Im guessing theres some certain timeout im just too stupid to find , or is it some php setting? I was thinking about max_execution_time but since this would raise the setting for everything and not just for the DownloadsII-downloads this cant be the way to go, can it? It kinda sucks if you cannot even complete a 1,1G download while downloading with somewhere around 2,5mb/s because "it takes too long". It stopped somewhere around 990MB, for users downloading way slower somewhere around half the size.

Downloads that have been added via a link (and still are locally on the same server, so the real path to the file will be revealed while downloading) work flawlessly though as do direct-downloads of any files from the server that one would know the real URL to access them.

Sorry if it has been answered before but finding some real information in a 256 page thread is quite hard even with a search within the mod.

So anyone any ideas what i might be doing wrong?

I was wondering where one would post a template modification for a mod, and just to throw out that if anyone was intrested in that feature they can send me a message. You should search your database in phpMyAdmin for any instance of the ecdownloads, if you have access to it. Then you should make sure you deleted all relevant files.

Are you getting this error when you visit the downloads.php page? Of course you would be getting errors if the product is uninstalled but not that particular file removed.

I love this application however I need a way urgently for it to work with files stored subroot just as links - it can manage fine on files that are linked from other sites - I need that functionality however in this application for downloading files from my own server - this is a security issue as I have about 160 gigs of downloads with various access levels.

Only other thing I can think of is to try changing image libraries, or check to make sure which your host is running. Your not missing any images. Your failing to create any images when uploading. I presume this only happens when you try to upload something, right? You did CHMOD your downloads folder to 777?

1. Click the "Update Counters" link at your downloads section. The left side statistics are being cached.

2. This isn't possible at the moment, but probably in the future it will.



1. Did you check the usergroup permissions? The "error" is caused by an upload limit you can set on a per usergroup basis.

2. Line 5721 of /includes/functions.php is the global_complete hook, but DownloadsII isn't using this plugin location. So the PHP warning is caused by another mod.

You will get the security token error when an upload is timing out, which is caused by a PHP server setting. Have a look at http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showpost.php?p=1681723&postcount=3 (the vB attachment system will give you the same problem with large files).



Try reuploading all files. This is clearly a problem at your server side :)



Did you upload the upload folder itself (wrong)? Or only its content (correct)? :D

May I add to this?

You can also increase the PHP maximum upload file size on your website by creating a file called:

.htaccess

And placing the following lines inside that file:

php_value upload_max_filesize 40M
php_value post_max_size 40M


Then upload the file in the same folder as your script.

This worked for me.

all u have to do it set it up so

1. NO one can access the downloads area cept admins
2. set up a special user group (with access to the downloads)
3 (Registered Members group) set it so after a Minimum amount of posts in the forums the user get promoted to (the user group you just made)

simpler terms
User signs up (registered Member) --->... makes 5 post in the forums.....1 minute later the the user is now in a (special group) and he/she can access the downloads

Installed, working great, thanks for the AMAZING mod. This is 10 times better than what was available a few years ago.

And like a lot of users I had to increase my PHP upload size for it to work with files bigger than 7MB. Dreamhost(my host) by default limits it to 7MB, but you can use a wrapper script to edit your php.ini file and increase the max allowed size(I've heard on Dreamhost you can do 250MB or more).

If I'm not wrong, Phalynx is already working on it, but on a xfile base, the users would be able to pay with VBEXP point the download of each single file..
On the other hand, the 1:1 file ratio has to be done in the DownloadsII core.. or am I wrong?

the fix was for users getting the token security message with image uploads, not file uploads.
if you're having problems with the file uploads, find this line

under that place this line

Yes, if they are unmodified. If they are modified, you need to revert them manually to get them updated. vBulletin will prompt a message about this at the AdminCP main page.
(But this release doesn't contain any template updates.)

Same problem here. My issue is that my adminCP has been changed and is no longer in the default directory. For security reasons I changed it over to a less conspicuous directory. The default admincp directory is now just a dummy directory with dummy files in it. I uploaded the downloadadmin.php file to the correct directory, but something in the installation script does not add it to my adminCP navbar. Can you tell me where I need to alter the install code to change the admincp directory path?

Solved it.

In case anyone else has this issue, open up /includes/xml/cpnav_ecdownloads.xml

find this on line 3:

<navgroup text="Downloads" hr="true" displayorder="15">

and change the display order number to something other than 15 (16 worked for me).

When a user have the link of this file (if file is in moderation queue not appears in list of downloads), well, when a user have the link of this file, if the user go to download this file, not appears the $vbphrase[ecdownloads_file_in_purgatory] (This file is in the moderation queue).

vBulletin 4 introduces a new style and template system, so all templates need to be redone. Because of that most 3.x vB.org mods won't work with v4.

At the moment there's nothing I can do about this as I'm not an alpha tester. I hope I will have access to the beta version.

You need to create a file named .htaccess (note the period in front of the name). Put the following two lines into the file:

It's because you are using a translation package, which contains the old version number. Just update the translation of the ecdownloads_copyright phrase.

For translators it's best to not translate the copyright phrase, to avoid this problem.

My site crashed and I had to re-install everything. For some reason, one of the things that hasn't been working correctly has been DownloadsII. When I go to one of my files and click download at the bottom I get forwarded to a page that says "Sorry we couldn't start the download" but this doesn't happen to all of my downloads.

Got a question...when I set Latest Additions, Most Contributors and all the other side modules to 0, the column disappears on the main downloads.php page but not on any category pages...is there a way to fix that ?

Also it seems with the side column doesn't have a fixed width or a wrap or anything like that, so if the file name is rather large it will push the entire table out to the side breaking the layout ( primarily the only reason why I set everything to 0 on the left bar ).

6.0 version for this hack is only a modified version of v5.1 which involve star rating system according to me.

You normally won't lose anything if you upgrade to vB4. The current DownloadsII version won't work (blank page or PHP errors), but the data won't be touched (unless you uninstall it).

Currently you can only upload to folders within the forums directory. Otherwise, you need to link the files.

No, it's separated from the attachments system at the moment. You can't import attachments (or you need to do it manually of course). For vB4 I'm probably trying to integrate it with the new asset manager.

Simply go to Admin CP > Usergroups > Usergroup Manager.

Press the "Edit" button in front of the desired usergroup and you will find various options regarding viewing, commenting and downloading of files. ;)

Hi Jelle and thank you for the nice hack, hanging around for the web I found this mod, that seems like downloadsII, but with the ability to host remotely the files.. it has in the ACP options to set up an ftp connection to host the files on another server and the option to retrive them from a given HTTP link.
This would solve one big problem in DownloadsII, the file size limitation that most of us have on their server when uploading files via HTTP, and the ability to host the vbulletin script on a fast and expensive server for taking care of mysql queries, page generation and all the rest, and use a cheap remote server with bigger hard drive space just as a file vault.
Are you interested in implenting it in the next version?

That's not possible and I'm not planning it. Such design things are very personal. vB itself hasn't got this also.
But of course, you could change the templates yourself for this.

we're using v5.1.1 and found the following bug:

I uploaded a file called similar to "abc-1.1.1-win32.zip".
When trying to download that file, the name was changed to "abc-1.1.win32.zip".

I looked into "download.php" and found this on line 679:

$newfilename = preg_replace('/[0-9]+-/','',$file['url']);

This line intends to remove the number-hyphen-combination that is added to the filenames during upload.
Unfortunately, this line also deletes number-hyphen-combinations within the actual filename.

Using the following fixes the bug:
$newfilename = preg_replace('/^[0-9]+-/','',$file['url']);

Yes i can upload jpg as attachments

That works fine. I just get that error mesage when i try to upload the images to the downloads

I am having a issue with permissions. When I set a user group to not see certain download sections they can still see them. I have tried checking the box and not checking it. I have added the cat. #'s with a , in between each cat. I can't see to get this to work. Any suggestions on what I am missing.

I don't know, seems like it's more hassle than it's worth. Unless I am doing this wrong, and I mean no offense to the coder. I'm relatively new at this. I find that I am having to enter everything in manually because the importer is not working correctly, and nothing I have tried has remedied that. Unless, this is the way it's supposed to work. I'm currently a TV Guides, which includes several GB. I want to give up the database to the present and everything in the DownloadsII Beam. Now if I would have to download everything and then back up, then it would be a year Project. My downloads in the database to the present, I can set up so that I can upload the files with direct link. The DownloaderII supports direct loading from a server and trying to access is not always on the local HDD. Is there any way to add the ability to disable this function by making a few changes to the Tamplates so that I can load URLs from ?????.

EDIT: in answering my own question .. the answer is NO

we moved servers and the previous location was

/var/www/html/forums/downloads/

now the new server it is on

/var/www/vhosts/domainname.com/httpdocs/forums/downloads/

not sure what to do to correct the location because when you click on the DOWNLOAD image it says it says ERROR: File not found.

even though the file is in the download folder

I'm trying to fix the file size limit by adding the .htaccess file you posted here (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost.php?p=1411831&postcount=2136). I already have a file with that name with this code in it:

If I try adding your code to that file, I get a 500 error and the site does not work. If I remove that code and replace it with yours, I get the same 500 error. Is there anyway to have both so that I can upload files larger then 2MB?

Would it be possible to implement some sort of check so that they can download for example up to 3 files, and then could not download anymore till they dont bring the ratio to 1:1 by uploading 3 files?? thanks!

I just started toying a bit with the new style. The new template syntax etc. isn't difficult to use, but what's making it difficult are all inconsistencies and bugs in the new style. I hope beta 4 will be getting some style fixes :)

Adding some borders to stop everything from "flying in whitespace" (like at the advanced reply page) would be welcome too.

But I guess that integrating in the new asset manager and integrated search will be the most difficult part. Probably that won't make it into the first v6 version.

I'm getting file limit exceeded message. I added some limits to different usergroups to test this feature, it limited me, than I changed it back to unlimited (-1) but I'm still getting the file limit exceeded.

Any ideas how I can fix this?

Also It would be nice to be able to not display the Downloads link to some usergroups.

I'am having a strange problem of the script renaming the file, and then saying it can not be found.

I can be logged into the downloads folder via FTP, find the file, rename it to what the script it looking for, click the download button - and the file is renamed again.

In downloads options

If yes, files will be downloaded as filename_given_in_form.ext instead of original_file_name.ext.

is set to no.

The renaming goes between 12345-filename.pdf and filename.pdf

The problem was in 5.1.0, so I upgraded to 5.1.1 and its still there.

What is the definition of a "day" for this mod?

Is it based on a given timezone (such as the host's/owner's timezone)? Is it based on the user's defined timezone (from their profile)? Is it based on the actual downloads (24 hours)? If the last, is it the first download that sets the 24 hours or the last download?

We have a large number of small files in our database (I don't think there are any over 512K) and this question is causing quite a bit of confusion. :confused:

Hi Welshy, I am still get a white page once I upload the image, and the image does not show up on the Download sections, but when I check the download folder on my hosting, it shows that the uploaded file is there.

I have checked on the Usergroup Permissions, I have got the option under Downloads II Permission "Can Upload Images" marked as Yes, any other options do I need to enable as well?

That's the search query, but it isn't executed every day. Rather every time someone does a search. There's nowhere an "y" in it, there's even no variable to get something in there.

You need to set your DownloadsII usergroup permissions to have access to the downloads section.

While your working on it, one of of the issues I've faced is users finding the direct download link to the file and bypassing Downloads II and VB. Any chance you can include an out of the box fix for that? I'm sure I'm not the only only who hates fooling with .htaccess permissions.

Vbulletin Admin Panel>Style Manager>Which ever style you are using>edit templates>

look for Download Templates and edit the downloads_navbar_button template.

Thanks for the reply. That's actually the template that controls adding the link to the forum navbar. I was looking for the actual navbar that is only on the downloads section (where you have Main | Category Tree | Stats | Search | Add | My Files | Manage Files | Update Counters).

Any ideas on what template they are in?

I'm not planning that immediately, though it's possible. I'm more looking for integration with the vB 4 asset manager in the future. So it depends from what the asset manager will allow.
