Seems like friendly advice and others have posted the same in this thread, same advice I've been handing out tbo. This was the original "thanks" mod if I remember correctly... I wish some had time to support their mods it would help the community more imo.

vbseo has an amazing addition in its latest version called "likes" it can inport your thanks from multiple systems. Amazing and very fast. Plus is has histories in profiles. We had over 500k thanks that transfered flawlessly.

Check it out on vbseo website. I am a customer like everyone else, but this was a very welcome change on my forum.

I have recently upgraded from 3.8 to 4.1.1 and successfully upgraded the old hack to new version by changing the max version.

Now, the problem is that all the previous thanks are gone and the counter is set to 0.:confused: As stated in the second post, I upgraded the thanks add-on and didn't uninstall it.

Any suggestion for retrieving the thanks database?

P.S: my question was being answered while i was posting... but which counter should update? I can't see any specific counter for thanks.

Update Post Counts did not have any affect...unfortunately
Goto AdminCP -> Post Thanks -> Recounters and update everything.

In my case, the thanks table in database was removed. I imported the table first and then updated the counter.

All the thanks are back now...
I just wasn't aware of this recountering feature!

how can I install this on my vB? I have 4.1.1 and it says it isn't compatible.

few steps I did but honestly I winged it, it smy first Mod I am doing so let me know if I did anything wrong.

1) I went to filezilla, copied the contents inside "upload via ftp" folder into the public_html of mine.
2) i went into manage products and choose file than import.

thats when I got the error. Did i skip any steps for my first time doing this?

Yes, somewhere in this thread it tells how to do that.

Prior to upgrading to 4.1.1, disable the hack. DO NOT UNINSTALL!!!

Then after you upgrade, reinstall it and all prior thanks will be restored.

I love this mod!

I just have one question, is there anyway to have the button a little more eye catching?

I use the warriorforum.com and there "thanks" button is just under the "reply with quote" button. And it is an actual button, not just text. Also it sits under that toolbar, sort of in between each post.

Is this possible? I wouldnt even know how to begin to move it though!

Your answer is that your question has nothing to do with the post thank you hack (or I don't think it does).

That setting is in the usergroup. Look for "Can Leave Negative Reputation" and set it to yes.

I have installed this great MOD on vBulletin 4.1.1 board which has the data imported from a phpBB 3.0.7 board. There was a Thanks mod installed on previous phBB board but the data was not imported by ImpEx script. So I'm here asking help from vB experts to help on this. Here are the relavent database table and its relavent fields.

vB Tables
------------------
vb_post_thanks : id , userid (from) , username (from) , date , postid
vb_post : postid , importpostid , post_thanks_amount
vb_user : userid , importuserid , post_thanks_user_amount , post_thanks_thanked_posts , post_thanks_thanked_times

phpBB Tables
------------------
phpbb_thanks : thanks_id , thanks_from (user_id) , thanks_to (user_id) , post_id , thanks_time (similar to date in vb_post_thanks table)
phpbb_users : user_id , username , user_thanked , user_thanks , user_thanks_post
phpbb_posts : post_id , post_thanked

I think we have to use importpostid and importuserid from vB table to match with phpBB tables since the userid<>user_id and postid<>post_id are not same. And I tried to edit only in table vb_post_thanks but it shows the wrong thanks count.

I think running sql queries will do this but I'm not that expert in sql :(

Just updated to the latest VBSEO and they now have a "like" mod built in, and also a free importer script which worked first time.

Maybe if you have VBSEO and are struggling with this one, and don't want to pay for the other thanks mod, then it's worth a look. :)

I uploaded the whole folder as said in install doc but now I get "you need to upload files to your server. The whole folder is uploaded!

Are you sure you put in the the right location?

Did you copy the main file into the root and the others into the folders?

If your sure you got that right, then I am not sure what is wrong.

New to this stuff. The install doc just said to upload the folder. Did not say to upload each file into each folder. I hope I done this right as I open each folder from the upload FTP folder then uploaded the files from the upload folder to each folder in my forum. Anyway it said it installed now.

Working good.

Suggestions:
I think the installation files in post #1 of this thread should be modified... perform the .xml modification in line 10
Reasons: Easier for the downloaders, and more importantly, the "Last Updated:" date on this modification will get changed from early 2010, to 2011.
People tend to use the modifications more if the last update is more recent, IMO.

A quick question:
Posts made by the Registered Users group are acting strange.
They get a scroll bar for the post.
A scroll bar that just scrolls a couple of pixels.
In other words, the entire post is visible... yet there's a scroll bar that you can "scroll down" just a couple of pixels.
Oddly enough, it doesn't appear on posts made by Administrators.

On our forums, we have installed the latest vBSEO (v3.6.0 RC2).
It has a "Like" link for posts.
Maybe there's the conflict?

What could I check? Verify? Modify?

Found a bug!!

I have this enabled on 4.1.2

The issue is, with the plugin enabled, it messes up the Blog Entries: part.
The number of blog entries appears at the end of the Thanked 0 Times in 0 Posts bit then it says Blog Entries: under it.

Obviousally it should say Blog Entries: 1

Quoting myself here but this hack displays the thank you link on the far left rather than next to the edit button where it belongs...here is the fix which was found my the designer of the custom skin I'm running:


1) open template postbit
find
HTML Code:

{vb:raw template_hook.postbit_controls}

and move it under

<span class="postcontrols">

2) Do the same for postbit_legacy

Quoting myself here but this hack displays the thank you link on the far left rather than next to the edit button where it belongs...here is the fix which was found my the designer of the custom skin I'm running:


1) open template postbit

Over the past years, many people have reported a problem when using this mod - after clicking Thanks the following error appears :

Could not find phrase 'post_thanks'.

It's been reported since 2006 (see here (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost.php?p=922794&postcount=536)) and apparently still hasn't been fixed. Some people have even stopped using the mod due to this error, even though the error is only a message and doesn't affect functionality of the mod.

I think the main reason it hasn't been fixed is because the error is rarely seen - that's because the 'Redirecting' page is not seen by most people due to the use of AJAX. However, while testing this mod with various browsers and various settings, I have seen this error a few times. One way to see the error is to right-click the Thanks button and open it in a new tab, then it doesn't use AJAX so the error will appear temporarily before the page is reloaded. But I've also seen the error in other (rare) situations.

I couldn't find any solutions online so I tried to find a solution myself. First I tried to manually create the missing phrase, but I couldn't get it to work. Then I searched the post_thanks templates to manually fix it, but I couldn't find anywhere to fix it there, so then I searched the actual files included in the zip but I'm not an expert coder so I still couldn't figure out how to fix it.

Fortunately I then came up with a quick-fix solution and figured I should post it here in case anyone else wants to use it. It's very simple - you just use the Replacement Variable Manager to get rid of the message! So in your admin control panel just go to the Replacement Variable Manager, click 'Add New Replacement Variable' then in the top box enter the following :

And just leave the bottom box blank, then Save. No more error message :)

I'm thinking of installing this mod, as I've used it on other forums and really like it.

However, it appears that the developer, Abe, has vanished. I'm concerned that this mod is going to be incompatible with future versions of vBulletin 4, since it has been effectively abandoned. What do you guys think?

Also, is it possible for another developer to take over this project?

then re-install

LOL. I was about ready to load up a version with the xml change for people who didn't know how. I guess I was beaten to the punch. I have fixed the Groans hack though, and made it so it integrates with this hack.

There is an option in this hack to ban certain users. If you have the last version of this hack already installed the one above is no different.

In order to integrate the thanks/groans hacks in 4.1.2 I had to make some changes to the includes/function_post_thanks.php file and to the XML.

I provide it here so that the two will integrate if you use both of them. This is only necessary if you want the two mods to integrate. Use it with the one that I uploaded into the thread for the Groans hack, with those two uploaded and then installed (best to remove/install as it creates duplicate tables in some areas of your dbase if you just overwrite), your hacks should integrate making it so that the groans button and the thanks buttons act in concert and you can disallow users to both thanks/groans the same post.

The integration setting is in the groans hack.

Refresh your post cache. It is most likely your java stuck in limbo.

My problem is, that the coder won't update this version ... last only last year.
If the hack will work with the actually vBversion ... what's up with the next vBupdate? Will the hack work? If not -> my users will "kill me" ;)

As I was testing my integration of the Post Groan/Post Thank You hacks, I noticed one problem with both of them. The search function it calls doesn't work at all. I turned off the profile stats so that people won't be clicking links and getting database errors, however... I'm working on fixing that too. It calls to a table that no longer exists in vb4, I wonder how long that has been a problem.

Anyway, if you are running this, you'll want to turn off the stats in the profiles, as the links to searches that it adds to your profiles will throw database errors. I'm working on fixing that too...

If I can figure out how to make this one work like it should I'll post a new Mod on it, if anybody else figures it out before me, they should do the same. The only function that I can't get to work and so keep rem'd out (the author rem'd them out, they caused issues) are the search functions.

No, that's it. I posted one that I changed just a fraction in order to integrate it with the post groans hack. I think I have them down now, but for some reason the groans don't all display on my site. Once I work that out I'll post both of them together so that everybody can have fully functional thanks/groans with integration.

I have it set now so that you hit one button it shuts the other off, etc. I just need to be sure that the groans will show up like they are supposed to every time somebody clicks groan... If anybody wants both hacks, with the integration, to test out somewhere PM me and I'll set you up... It will help if I get some feedback.

I've had this mod installed for a while now, but there are now links in user profiles to threads thanked by user, and thanked threads by user.

Am I supposed to do something extra to display these links in user profiles?

It says in the user profiles how many times the user has been thanked and in how many threads, but no links to thanked posts as described in the mod.

Unfortunately this is learn as you go for me, I only took it up because my users are pissed that I upgraded and lost their Groans... Man... I was sure that I had everything to upgrade without losing any of my mods... that's what I get for not testing more thoroughly before I upgraded. There's no going back now though.

Make sure you back up as you would before any DB change...

turn off all your mod / hooks

then when you update from vb3 to vb4 then the mods, I would run Phaedrus updated version
*note allow over write on the import of the xml file..

and DO NOT Unistall the mod before updating .. you'll loose all the thanks..

I would download mine as it rem's out the search strings that will cause you dbase errors and is easier to find than the other upload in the thread with the same rem remarks, plus, once I figure out where I have my variables off it will be ready to integrate.

yes i dl and installed the hide hack mod into my forum and now my forum gets an error i folled each step and made sure it was right i checked over it again and everything is in place but for some reason when i go to click on new post it comes up as an error it says

It is a shame that the original idea of abe1 is now used to make money by others.
DB knows that most of us already have a thanks database based on abe1's original hack.
Their free version doesn't provide the needed importer. So some swich over to DB and pay for the pro version to import the thanks database.
IMHO it is morally questionable what DB does.
It must be freeware to respect abe1's idea.

Hence I appreciate it very much that you can provide a fixed version of it.
I want to stick with abe1's hack as long as possible. I do not pay DB (importer) for something another has originally invented!!!

I'm going to make a new thread. It's taken me some time but I finally got the Thanks/Groans integrated and working correctly on my site. If this guy comes back, I'll ask them to close my thread and give the hack back to him, but at this point we need somebody to update the hack and keep people updated. Is that kosher, or will I be burned to the ground for being a witch?

I've got everything working except the search function, and I'll attack that next as people want to be able to see who thanked who where, etc.

It is a shame that the original idea of abe1 is now used to make money by others.
DB knows that most of us already have a thanks database based on abe1's original hack.
Their free version doesn't provide the needed importer. So some swich over to DB and pay for the pro version to import the thanks database.
IMHO it is morally questionable what DB does.
It must be freeware to respect abe1's idea.

Hence I appreciate it very much that you can provide a fixed version of it.
I want to stick with abe1's hack as long as possible. I do not pay DB (importer) for something another has originally invented!!!

Just a little note that Abe was far from the first person to create a thanks mod (It's very likely he got the idea elsewhere), and our modification does not use any code from Abe's mod - it is created from scratch with many more features than Abe's mod had =).

The idea of it being morally questionable to be paid for ones work seems odd to me, most people do not work for free, including yourself in all likelyhood :)

When reply to you (again, thank for your help) I indicated that solved my problem.

But now, I view other problem, some users, in postbit appears the thanks in the same line, others users, appears well (in differents lines).

I attach a images.

In first image, appears well the "Thanked", in image 2, appears in the same line.

How I can solved this?

Set it to add to the reputation, this will give a notification link to the post that was thanked.

For some reason, this version seems to be working on 4.13. As I've had it installed previously on 4.04. Upgrading does not seem to have changed the function of this hack.

Okay, I'm going to post the version that I have integrated with the groans on my site, the search feature is off until I can figure out the correct search string to find all thanks/groans. I'll also post the groans that I added back the integration to. If you upgrade check your dbase for an extra "post" in your dbase in the post_thanks/post_groans tables. For some reason it adds an extra one that is useless.

Tell me if there are any issues, if this is clean I guess I can post a new thread with both hacks with credit to the original coders...

Had trouble with your link. But I think your were kindly showing me the way to Phaedrus' latest revision. I went back and checked post 1433 and found it is the same one I have installed.

Any other ideas?

[EDIT] Problem solved. It was caused by left-over code from the DB Tech Thank You hack. I forgot to disable a modification I did to post.php as part of the install instructions from DB Tech. I removed those lines and the problem went away.

This is caused by left-over code from the DB Tech Thank You hack. Disable the modification you did to post.php as part of the install instructions from DB Tech.
