One is obligated to read a mod's entire thread before installing it, and after you've done that you should know as much about it as we do. Or at least the last several pages anyway. That's especially important for this mod because the original version doesn't work at all.

Was merely referring to the fact that the original developer had gone MIA and was not updating it. Did not realize there were other people updating it. There's a lot here to read to catch up, still in the process.

I'd also like to know: how come you say it may be a breeding point for spambots and hackers? any clues on that or just wild guess?

Okay I'm catching up on reading everything here, thank you for your efforts on this plugin Hippy. So what it the most recent stable version and where do I get it? I see 7.82 in the beginning of the thread, however thought I saw a link to a 7.84 somewhere?

I install it on most sites I work on and there is nothing that (spambots or hackers) can use or have used as a breeding ground .. Other wise it would be posted and pulled

no way to back up unless you know how to dabble in the tables in phpmyadmin
and if you update to the newest version of this mod
(DONE NOT UNINSTALL)
you will not lose anything ..
If you uninstall you will
if you go to a different mod you'll have to asked them
not sure about there importers
they also may be paid versions only

As you can see by looking at the top post the author has been Mia for quite a long time a few of us have been supporting this mod that's why it's not in the graveyard..

That said so you don't need to apply a dozen + small fixes yourself you should consider downloading one of the updated packages below:

I think you mean a Like button, don't you?Is there a difference? The way vb is phrased you could easily change the word "Like" to "Thanks" if you wanted. But I really haven't been paying attention to vb5. If they do have a Thanks system, it would be nice if we could import the contents of this one to it, rather than having to start everyone back at zero.

Post /attach a button you are using from that style and I will see if I can do something
make sure it's around the size it needs to be Like the report button or something the same size

I think you need to fix the functions_post_thanks.php file.

Find the following in function fetch_thanks_bit (around line 218).

}


Add a space after the comma in the quotes and it should do the trick...

Ah, I didn't know there were additional files. Fixed. Thanks!

A few things:
1) The "Thanks" button is on the far left. Can I move it just to the left of the "Edit Post" so it is more visiable, and perhaps add a small icon next to it to make it stick out?
2) For the "Thanks x times in x posts", can I have this shown only when they have been thanked at least once? 90% of members probably won't get a thank you, so it is not worth having for everything until they get thanked.

do you have a custom style ?
well it would be something like images/styles/custom_name)/images/buttons
default is images/buttons/
something to that affect ...
where every you have them now you need to figure out where your buttons folder is and add them there for the style your using

the default skin the images are in images/buttons
the custom style is like this

images/styles/vB_Black/buttons

so for each skin find the button folder and add the images post_thanks-hover.png and post_thanks.png

Thanks for being specific. So I did this, and no luck. I also noticed that a lot of the buttons were in /images/[style name]/buttons
I copied those 2 icons into every one I could find - there are lots of custom styles (and many of them worked - the icon showed). Even when I go to the default theme, the icons aren't showing up (which they should since they are in the /images/buttons, right?).

One of the issues is that my custom theme was renamed in vBulletin Styles, so I'm not sure what directory it is under in the /images/ folder. Is there a way to find this out? I'm surprised my default theme or the default vB theme aren't working - the problem is similar.

As for the vb:if condition: what will the condition be such that you have to have at least 1 thank you for it to show?

Sorry, I don't understand what you are trying to say. If you look at my attachment from previous post, you can see vB 4.2 stop me from importing this plug-in due to incompatible version !!

You can use this code to make the page refresh when a user hits the thanks button

there are now 2 xml install files now
one xml with and one without integrated postbit box collapse

so in the updated archive
the fix has been applied
and since people pm me on how to remove the collapse
I added that to the archive as well
so you all have a choice witch one you prefer to install

i disabled the vbseo plugin, then this plugin works good for every post of thread including first post.
but when i enable vbseo, it works for every post except for 1st post of all threads.

Yes, it's possible to limit the per-user-amount in the settings even to limit the forums where the hack will be active. The're several settings to fit this hack for your forums needs.

Updated: Ok I fixed the issue, It was due to ShareThis which I added to vBulletin CMS. I was too lazy and added the code to the header. Now I moved the code to vB CMS Preview page only. Thanks for your help :)

Have you thought of using a different thanks plugin this one is very old and is no longer supported or updated. There is a updated one in my sig if you have not downloaded it already link is in op post as well

The idea is to let users look at the list of threads in forumdisplay and see how many thank-yous each thread received.

(I tried doing this myself by creating a little plug-in that hooks into threadbit, but I need to access the thread's firstpostid. I can access _lastpostid_ with no trouble, but firstpostid doesn't seem to work the same way.)

I wouldn't advise that. Every DBTech mod I have ever tried either messed up my database or competed adversely with another mod. They have a bad habit of usurping hooks in a way that messes up other plugins.

I don't know what happened after all!!! suddenly when a user click "Thanks" the page goes to reload itself and then Thanks shows up clicked...!! is that normal???

Update: after testing many times on different styles, I found out that the mod works with no conflict with any mod I have. However, the mod has a glitch on my custom style only. so I guess I have some issue with my custom style somewhere...

Thanks, now things looks great. works perfect on vb4.2.1

The page reload was caused in the custom style and didn't know how to resolve it, but only by uploading the style again under different name.

But really there are probably not enough active forums using vB5 to justify the time and effort to upgrade many of these mods.

Or any idea how I change this so they all align left? If it's impossible to get vb:raw scripts...

Sorted, basically you need to go into your postbit_legacy and then where you see post count as shown:

you add your own div *if required to nest it* and then add the following code directly afterwards:

Weird I don't get this. Are you on 4.2.0? Have you added an inline mod hack to your postbit_legacy? If do try disabling that. I had loads of issues but got it looking good now (see image above)....

A little tip if it's not showing for your visitors, just enter the admin > settings > post thanks options panel and then save and exit. It seemed to get it re-activated and working for me.

Thanks for reply. This is strange that even after re-installing the mod, I still get these warnings in Chrome. I disabled all mods I have, but only this one and I still get these warnings. Then I disabled this mod and things became fine. :confused:

Now I guess I will have to try each version individually and see if it works or not...!!

I uninstalled the plugin, and then when I re-installed it all of the previous thanks were gone.

Luckily I had a backup of the database and was able to pull all of the information. However when I go into a thread with likes, none of them show up until someone else likes the post, as well the thank count is off.

Is there a way to update the thanks information in the threads?

It is in sequence, but it lists it by the username not the date the thanks was given.

Problem prior today with the original Thanks hack installed with 4.1.x working fine, but I had to install 4.2.x today no choice what so ever. The original Hack then locked up my forum and I had to Uninstall it.

Now when I try to install the Mods/Patches to original I get this: Please upload the files that came with this Hack before installing or upgrading!

Got back and try to install the original and I get this: The following dependencies were not met: 1.This product is not compatible with version 4.2.1 of vBulletin. (Compatible starting with 4.0.0 beta 4 / Incompatible with 4.1.0 alpha 1 and greater)

This is the best Hack ever and forever for vB, so what to do?

The reason I knew the Thank You was crashing it was because of the Error Log. The only problem I have found so far is that 4.2.1 won't let you load the old Plug In in order to load the Patch by Hippy and the other guy. I tried Upload and FTP with no luck; even though I got the files in place just like the first time that worked with the 4.1.x via FTP, something isn't right and when you try to load the Patch it claims incompatible. I think the Uninstall to get 4.2.1 hosed the entire "Thank You works with 4.2.1". I completely confused as to why no programers will develop a full new load.

% After getting many other hacker rebuild issues out of the way I got back to focus on this and managed to get the original Plug In back on; not sure what I was doing wrong but I corrected it.

As of yet I cannot get either Patch to work.

There is no "fix" because nothing is wrong with this hack. You'll need to do some diagnostic work to find out why it doesn't work for you. Many, including myself are using it on 4.2.1 and I get rave reviews about it daily. I would turn off any other hack that uses show thread and/or postbit and one by one turn them on until the hack that is interfering is evident. That's the easiest way get it working.

Some further information on error displays in 4.2.2 ;

As part of the php compliance changes, error reporting in 4.2.2 was fixed to take account of the new strict & deprecated errors added in php 5.x

A side effect of this is that old (existing) errors that were not showing up may also now get displayed.

All of the errors we encounter during testing were corrected, but there may be more.
If you encounter such an error, then please log it in the vB4 Jira project, so we are aware of it.


If you need to disable error displays, there are several methods, depending on your circumstances and technical ability.

1. Add this line to your php.ini file (production sites should run like this anyway)

display_errors = Off

2. If you cannot access your php.ini file, add this line near the top of your config.php

ini_set('display_errors', 'Off');

3. Use the option added in 4.2.2 to suppress messages if you have products or hooks in use that still generate errors.

Goto : Settings > Options > Plugin/Hook System and then set the "PHP Compatibility" setting to 'Yes'.

This will change the error reporting options within vBulletin on the first hook that is run.

If you have vBulletin Suite (i.e. Blogs / CMS) or you have the Panjo Product enabled, this setting will pretty much disable the Strict & Deprecated messages anywhere.

This is because all three of those products use the "init_startup" hook.

If you don’t actually have any of those running, you can create a dummy plugin yourself - use the "init_startup" hook, and just put a comment in the php section.

This will cause the option to suppress errors after init_startup has been called (which is at the start of almost all pages)

Simple upload all files allow overwrite via ftp
Go to admincp add product install the new xml file allow over write. don't uninstall or you'll loose all thanks.
Away make a backup in case something goes wrong.

In number of thanks box (below the post), if a username contains a space character, it produces a line break.
How can we prevent that?

Currently, this is how it behaves...
