Sadly, I'm going to have to uninstall this product. Months after porting to vb4, it still doesn't have some of the previous capabilities restored and it looks like the author has determined the juice isn't worth the squeeze. I can' blame him.

This is the blessing and curse of open source. It's free and few people materially support the coder.

I use the hack on 3 of my forums, so having to constantly add to the 1 field when I create a new forum (including clan forums) is kind of cumbersome.

A suggestion:

Differentiate between thanked THREADS and POSTS so it can be "Thanked for 6 threads and 14 posts" (or something like that)

And as already mentioned, the seeing which posts a user was thanked for doesn't work - DB error

About the alignement of the Thanks button near the Edit button, the solution suggested in the mod post and in the other messages of this thread seems doesn't work anymore on Vbulletin 4.0.6. Is there any coder that can help us moving this button?

If you mean if I checked the Plugin Manager, yes, I did.

I tried reinstalling and no luck so it's not that.

no I don't.
but you could turn them all off via admincp and just leave this mod active and see if the problem goes away.. if it does then turn mod on at a time till the problem comes back then you will know witch one is cause the problem.

thats if any of your other mods are affecting it

Since Abe seems to be busy with other things, I went ahead and hacked the font size on the "Following Users Say..." line on the forums.

Listen, I'm not a coder and all I can say is that it works on my forum -- follow at your own risk and be sure you can go backwards if needed.

Anyway...

In post_thanks_postbit find:
<h2 class="<vb:if condition="!$vboptions['legacypostbit']">post</vb:if>title">If you're using the legacy (vertical) postbit template: change the word "title" to "bitlegacy"

Otherwise change the word "title" to "content"

Again: I'm no coder - try it at your own risk.

I'm seeing the Thanks button breaking my style. First, I had to change the percentage of the space of the buttons on the right, e.g. edit post, reply, etc. The problem is that there is still a breaking of the top of button. It's definitely the Thank You hack as the problem goes away if disabled.

This above mod is not exactly the same as I need, so, I am attempting to locate the 'Post Thank you' module which is the same as here:

Please go to http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?t=1639655 and click on the i.d. 'fermi'. In the drop-down window that will open up, you will see the option: 'Find all thanked posts by fermi'. You are then taken to the relevant page showing all the related posts, which, more importantly, are all clickable, are live links.

Now, if you register at this website and go to http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/member.php?u=175491, then hit Statistics of the i.d. 'fermi', you will see these 2 live link options:

Find all thanked posts by fermi
Find all posts thanked by fermi

You can now conveniently go to either of these 2 options.

The above seems to be the only closest mod to this I can find but, this does not allow the above 2 options to be live links and is generally not as thorough as the above mod.

I would be grateful if someone can lead me to where I can find the precise mods being used by moneysavingexpert.com - I need it to be compatible with VB version 4.0.7.

That is essentially the same mod, just an older version. The 4.x version has those features coded, but they don't seem to work properly. If you review or search this thread you will see that lots of people have asked about this. Hopefully someone will work out a workaround, and share it.

Thx for this mod.

You should separate these two phrases: 'Thanks' and 'Thanks'; the first means "Thank you" and the second one means "Number of Thanks". But you use "Thanks" as button title and also as number of thanks which used in postbit information. These two phrase should be translated to two separate phrase in other languages.

This is a great hack. Thanks very much.

But the Thank You button (the hand icon) has suddenly disappeared on all posts. For posts already thanked the Thanks are still visible i.e. "The following users say....". The "Thanked x times in x Posts" is also still there. But the button is gone so nobody can thank anyone any more. :(

vB 4.0.7 and I have no other plugins. I've made no recent changes via the adminCP. The button was there yesterday and gone today.

Any suggestions for where I could start looking for the problem? Thanks in advance.

If you FTP in and check your error_logs file then it should be there.

in the xml file
change this line

to

and import the xml file again (allow overwrite)
or
go into your post thanks templates
and open
post_thanks_javascript template
and change the first line to

The hack doesn't fully work in vb 4.0.8 with vbstyles.com Bluefox style. It will display Thank You graphic, but when you click it, the Thank You summary doesn't appear underneath the post. I will still record your rating, but none of the below post ratings are ever displayed.

The developer is suggesting it's the problem with the hack and not the style.

Thoughts? It's not affecting anything. This error was generated by a FEW ips only. After looking into the IP's it appears that they all are associated with ONE ISP. There is a bug in the latest version.
If I give THANKS to someone he gets +1 Thanks but also the counter for given Thanks get +1 which is wrong.

Try this:

Look at a users thanks counter where THANKS and THANKS GIVEN are displayed.
Write down both numbers.
Give the user a THANKS for a post.
Refresh browser window


Now you see that both counters got +1 which is wrong.

Abe does mention in his initial post 'vB Version: 4.0.x' but you can bypass this by editing the xml at the beginning there will be a version number, just change it.

I am getting a security token icon next to the "Thanks" text and I cannot seem to get rid of this! Any ideas on how I can get rid of the security token? An update to this is that I have found the Security Token icon only appears when I add the Share this Script anywhere into the header or strangly enough the footer! When you click on the Thanks it then applies the Thanks and opens a webpage to Share This which loads nothing! I am now wondering if it would be best not to use the Share This script!

i need to have all the groans and thanks with me when i migrate to vb 4.1 PL2 or my users are going to kill me... this feature has been used more than 700.000 times this year alone

1. how do i make sure the posts make the migration (if its written in some post - please direct me cause i completely lost overview in this thread)

2 can i still integrate post groan/thanks with eachother - if yes what versions should i install and do they need modifications to work? (the latest?)

Installed PHPKD Link Bot Ultimate and the Thank You Hack icon is gone, disable Link Bot and it comes back.
I have read all 80 pages, and so far none of the ideas have worked.
Running vb 4.0.8
I have sent a request to the owner of the link bot, but was hoping there was a simple fix here first.

P.S. For those upgrading to 4.0.8 from 3.84, I uninstalled all hacks except Thankyou hack, I disabled it. Upgraded and added the revised hack 7.82 as per instructions. All thanks returned.

Is there anything I could do to fix it? Maybe run a ceratin index?

Try ADMINCP -> Maintenance -> Update Counters

I have recently upgraded from 3.8 to 4.1.1 and successfully upgraded the old hack to new version by changing the max version.

Now, the problem is that all the previous thanks are gone and the counter is set to 0.:confused: As stated in the second post, I upgraded the thanks add-on and didn't uninstall it.

Any suggestion for retrieving the thanks database?

P.S: my question was being answered while i was posting... but which counter should update? I can't see any specific counter for thanks.

The counters should be updated after an update anyway.

Did you do a database backup Before upgrading?

never mind!! fixed it... you should edit the FIRST post with the

"<dependency dependencytype="vbulletin" minversion="4.0.0 beta 4" maxversion="4.1.0 alpha 1" />" to 4.1.99 edit to make it work with 4.1.1 so that way i didnt have to search 83 pages. =]
