Hi, Re my previous posts and the main table resize issue, I thought it I would post a couple of images of my Test forum to show the difference observed. The second image shows what happens if I click on any of the forums (i.e everything resizes but I am not taken into the forum until I click again).

I was just wondering if any of you use the left right columns successfully. I have tried with different image sizes and varying the table width. Problem is most noticeable in firefox.

I accept this may just be how it is, but if anyone does have this working without a drastic change in size (particulary with firefox browser) I would be very interested.

I uploaded the Includes folder of vbadmangement to Includes folder of Vbulletin Forum, Then upload the Product file (xml), then edited the footer or header template only! Enabled mod from control panel and added some code to see whether it works or not!
But it is not working! i can't figure it out where i m going wrong!

I don't know, but I would have thought so. You may need to use $GLOBALS[header_advertisement] instead of $header_advertisement etc for the template edits.

I know it's in here somewhere, but I just can't find it. I have the ads showing under the first post in a thread, but I want to show under the first post on each page. Did I manually make a change, or do I have to change the script to do this?

Looks like I forgot to change the instructions for that setting, try register|private. It must be separated using your custom delimiter set near the top of the Global Settings page.

I'm not sure when these stopped displaying - it may have been with the installation of 3.6.7 or PL1, or of course it may be the result of another add-on I suppose.

Is anyone else having this problem? It's odd that whatever it is doesn't affect the header and footer ads. That makes me wonder if it's not the result of some of the hook changes with 3.67 or competition with another add-on for the same hooks.

The problem was almost embarrasingly simple. When I upgraded to vBulletin 3.6.7 (ant then PL1), I had to revert several templates. I put back the tags for header and footer and forgot to do the same for postbit. :o

Edit your postbit_advertisement template and delete this part:

The problem is either with your style, which uses a fixed width which means it will not adjust to larger or smaller sized screens (like the difference between liquid and fixed styles on vBulletin.com) or you have chosen adverts that are too big for your screen in which case you must choose adverts that fit. It's not really an ad management problem.

That's interesting. I still have trouble with left, right or both Columns with Firefox. Does your forum work OK in firefox with VB Ad Management installed? If I click some (not all) of my main forum headings, the main table resizes, but the content is the same (i.e. main forum headings). I have to click the forum heading a second time to actually go into a forum.

I do not expericence this with IE7.

More or less most of my VB settings are default. I have tried changing main table % and to PX instead, but am no further forward.

I am not really worried about the difference in gap re the left and right columns to the main table (as mentioned in the mod description), but the 'double click resize issue' may present a difficulty for my potential forum users.

My forum is not off the ground yet. VB Admanagement seems a wonderful Mod and ideal for me apart from the issue mentioned above.

I guess I will have to go with Header/Footer ads (which work perfectly), but would be very interested if a user with VB Admanagement could enable left and right col ads and try with Firefox? - just to see if you experience the same thing? As a newcomer to VB I have been convinced it must be something I am doing wrong, but I am running out of experiments to try:confused:

I experience it myself :) you are not making any mistake. I simply used vBulletin's own suggested code (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=156775). It sounds likely that this is a Firefox problem, but I'd certainly make the appropriate changes if anyone can provide alternative code.

I've found that I'm placing the $template other than what is descirbed in the documentation. For example, I didn't like how low and out of sight the footer ad was, so I placed it in FORUMHOME and FORUMDISPLAY in netween the threads table and navigation at the bottom. Will this result in any sort of performance hit on my forum?

I don't like the smaller banners, as I have text and image ads, more time than not, the banner will display only the text ads. It seems the larger, more graphical 728 x 90 ads aren't available in 468 x 60.

Is there a way to change forumbit_advertisement and postbit_advertisement files to spread horizontally across the "last post" and "threads" column, and perhaps leave the last column "posts" for the "sponsored links" blurb?

If this isn't clear, I can post an image of what I mean.

I think I follow. If you look in the forumbit advertisement template, there's a colspan definition. This defines how many table columns that cell spreads across. So if you wanted it to spread across the entire table, you could remove all the other columns from the template and set colspan="99". It will span 99 columns or since there aren't that many, just as many as the table has. So if you wanted to leave the Sponsored Links cell, you'd set colspan to the number of columns the table has, minus one.

Same goes for the threadbit_advertisement template (I'm assuming that's what you meant rather than postbit).

What needs to take place for the Usergroup: Unregistered / Not Logged In to see the ads, or any other group aside from admin for that matter?

Looking through the properties for the groups, I do not see anything specific for making ads viewable, nor in the ad settings.

Is it possible to have an alternate ad if the chosen ad is excluded on certain forum/s?
Like for example, an adsense is place on the header globally except for adult category/forum. So instead of displaying adsense on that adult category, an alternate ad will be displayed (could be bidvertiser, adultfriendfinder, etc.).

Looking through the properties for the groups, I do not see anything specific for making ads viewable, nor in the ad settings.

Really couldn't tell you for a custom theme I'm afraid, far too many changes to be able to pin it down to just one and it may take more than one change to fix it.

Oops, remembered wrongly. Try these, you might need to adjust the colspan numbers if I've guessed wrongly. The number should match the number of cells the ad spans.

Conditionals, really isn't it. I just happened to come across a tutorial for integrating conditionals and if it's as easy as it seems then it'll definitely be in the next version which will allow for any kind of conditional about anything and allow more or less infinite flexibility.

O.K., this seems to work..I monkeyed around with it, tell me if you think it's O.K. as far as the structure of the code. I'm just hacking here and I'm no coder, so if it looks bizarre, it probably is:

This formats the columns the way I want it, however it displays differently in Internet Explorer than it does in FireFox. In Firefox, it displays nice. The right margin fits within the browser screen. In IE, the right hand margin shoots off a few columns. Any ideas? I could post a few images if it will help.

Gotcha..both below images use the code I've attached above. The first image shows the code as displayed in Firefox. The forum table is centered neatly and nicely within the browser window. The right edge has the same number of pixels of space between the table and the edge of the browser window as the left edge. No horizontal scroll bar. The second shows the code displayed in Internet Explorer. Notice how the right edge of the table goes way off the browser screen, which in turn throws of the formatting of the entire forum table and results in the horizontal scroll bar at the bottom of the browser. Firefox rendition is the desirable formatting. IE is baaad.

Add this to your style's Main CSS AdminCP > Styles & Templates > Style Manager > Your style's dropdown box > Textarea at the very bottom of the CSS page.:

You may need to adjust the left:85px; value to suit your style. I've tested it and it works fine on my forum. It lifts the adsense out of the page and places it back on top where it should go, the invisible image pads out the height of the row to match the space needed. If the browser window is less than 1024 px wide then the ad will cover everything to the right of it on that row, but that's probably an improvement on stretching the page which is what it would normally do anyway.

Sounds like you forgot to upload the .xml file. AdminCP > Plugins & Products > Product Manager.

I'm not a tekkie wizard by any stretch of the imagination, but we've managed to get our forum up and running without too many problems. What we'd love to introduce now is some advertising - hence once I saw your modification I thought it would fit the bill exactly.

I've installed everything as per the instructions and we can see the options in the control panel, but that's where we're sort of stuck.

Have you got any real idiot-proof instructions on how to get any further? If you haven't got such a thing, if it's possible for you to help me, I could write you some in my 'idiot language' that you could post here, or e-mail when other 'idiots' get intouch with the same problem!

All the instructions are there I'm afraid, and I must admit they're rather weak. I am trying to make an effort for things to be clearer in the next version for that reason as well as the facts that the next version is more complicated in some ways. It's very user-friendly once you have a handle on how it works, but baffling when you don't.

Ah. That's really beyond the scope of a manual for this modification, that's general internetness.

LINK = Where you want to send people who click on the banner.
IMGLINK = Where the location of the image is.
IMGDESCRIPTION = A description of what the image is.

Put that in the header adcode section of the options, and ensure that it's enabled just above that. In general settings, the default is set to show advertisements to administrators only for testing (it says 6 in the usergroup settings, which is admin's usergroup id) so when you're ready you will have to adjust the numbers listed in that setting.

Currently, no. Next version, almost certainly. But it will still be a long list of conditionals, there's really no other way to do it.

No worries! Open your header template, find:

Replace with:

If you can't find the code you're supposed to find, you just have to add style="vertical-align:middle" to the <td> which holds the advertisement, whichever that may be.

Edit: And remove all those keywords from the bottom of your front page, Google will flay you alive for that! Sites have been banned for less.

When creating a custom field, vBulletin provides an option called RegEx which you can apply to that field. Regex is an extremely powerful and extremely complicated, alas, way of limiting what is added to that field. So powerful that you can specify what characters are allowed, how many, in what order...more or less anything to be as limiting as you like. The more specific you are, the more secure you will be and it goes without saying don't use the allow HTML option.

If you can post examples of what code you would like people to be able to post, when I get a minute I'll see if I can come up with a RegEx code for you. Adsense is comparatively easy, others might not be.

Each time I try viewing a thread from the front page (using vbadvanced) and also while inside the forum. It appears to give me a warning message for each post. You can never determine how big an image will be, but you can put height="368" width="60" in your image code to force anything they put to be that size. As I said, anything is possible but that would be a super-complicated regex if you wanted either/or and it's not something I have time to work out at the moment I'm afraid.

The Adsense alone regular expression is quite simple (based on my own adsense id, you may need to adjust it), use this:
^ca-pub-[0-9]{16}$

That says the custom field must be ca-pub- then sixteen numbers between 0 and 9. No more, no less. Change {16} to {15-17} to allow 15 to 17 numbers, and so on.

No click-tracking is included, as long as Google Analytics is free I don't see much point. You can change anyone you don't want to see advertisements to a usergroup which can't see advertisements, but you can't ban individual advertisements from being displayed. This should be possible in the next version.

This product does hide your Google Adsense Publisher Id.

Don't think it does...short of javascript encryption I don't see how it's possible and even then it's probably breakable.

Usergroups settings, Forums settings, all the forumbit and threadbit settings. Not a lot, really. I haven't heard of any problems with forumbit/threadbit advertisements so I don't know what else it could be.

I have had some problems, and I am the first to admit, it may have to do with the pressures of building a portfolio :-) Anyway, when I uploaded the product in VB 3.6.7, There was an error alert that popped up and said there was a database error. However I cannot find any error written to log.
Also, it may have had to do with working at 4:00am, but i went through and added the appropriate tags and then I went and made the file modifications that are listed. I went to bed and wouldn't you know, when I woke up (10:00 am or later) the site was down and there was a php error message that there was a syntax error in includes/admanager.php! Ah. includes/admanager.php is a not a vB Ad Management file, the problem lies with something else.

I'm a newbie who has very recently converted to VBulletin. I do not have extensive HTML/PHP/MySQL/CSS etc experience but I can usually just about muddle my way through. I have read the details of your addon and it sounds perfect except that I don't really understand anything beyond the installation instructions i.e. I am unsure how to configure it.

I really just wish to insert a number of image adverts around the board on a relatively random basis that link through to various friends websites - nothing more complicated than that. Can I achieve this simply through your control panel addin ? Would it be possible for you to post some screenshots of the control panel ?

You can! I don't do screenshots of the Control Panel because there's quite a lot of screen space and I'd have to keep changing them with new releases. Truth be told, there's not a lot to see.

What it comes down to is giving you a box for each location where ads will be placed into which you place your code for the advert. You can randomise advertisements very simply by separating each advertisement code (which would be each image inside a link, probably) by separating it with a |. You can customise how to separate them if it inteferes with your code.

And the rest of the settings control to who and how each location appears. It should be reasonably self-explanatory although I'm trying to improve instructions and labelling for the next version.

The problem is that I can only really decide to use Amazon USA or UK etc etc. I've chosen Amazon USA since most of my audience is american.

What if you could configure adverts for specific usergroups. I could put all my usa users in a usa usergroup, all my uk users in a uk usergroup and so on. That way, I could configure it so that all the USA users see amazon usa adverts, and UK users see amazon uk adverts.

Any feedback on this idea?

I've been using this mod with great success for quite a while now. I love it! Most of my ads work beautifully, so I keep them in the rotation.

However, I've got a handful that won't work. They throw things off when they come up. (mostly in the navbar or header, but it's a problem in the footer as well.) It's difficult to explain what happens, but they shift things around or make the entire forum link to their site or something like that.

It's just a few so I haven't worried too much about it, but if you've got the time to take a look I'd appreciate it.

It's a good concept but it looks bad on my website and the placements don't work very well either.

You can actually imagine my problem by looking at this vbulletin.org forum. Take a look at the two dark blue sides on each side of this forum. I thought this was where the right and left advertisements would go, but that doesn't work. My forum is designed exactly like this forum so that visitors viewing my forum on an 800X600 resolution could view my site without having to scroll from side to side like they would in a 1024X768 designed forum.

Is there any way to get advertisements into left and right sides I have just pointed out? In the screenshot, I have circled in green the two spots I would like my ads to be placed in.

There's generally nothing you can do about that. Ads take up space and will rearrange the page, that's just how it works. Either use smaller ads, different placement or rearrange your forum to accommodate them.

Long story short: no. I've never used vBulletin's subscription so I don't know what's possible with it or even how it works by default. But if you want to expand further, there's a "suggest feature" link at the top of the first post, submit your suggestion and I'll have a look and see if anyone else has anything to add.

This is GREAT news! I use the Navbar thing you wrote for me, and I love the way it looks - so neat - but I'd like it to be completely controllable separate from header/footer. That way I could put adsense in the footer and set places it isn't allowed, while still having the navbar display everywhere.

YO, I FOUND A BUGGGG!

No offense but I thought this may help better your software. I've been working on this problem over the past 2 days over many frustrating hours (thought it was a IE and Mozilla compatibility problem because changes in login and logout and then viruses) and found that the root of it was from this vb Ad management. Here is the thread explaining the problem of sorts:

This extra <table><tr><td> statement pops in before the <!-- open content container --> when a member logs in. This has caused me a lot of problems because as this statement pops in, I don't have a </td></tr></table> at the end to close this table, so my whole design layout gets thrown off.

If I add this extra </td></tr></table> to the bottom, everything clears up - except for when I log out, then the forum tables and layout gets thrown off yet again. So your stuck with a situation of having the forum layout work correctly when your either logged in or logged out - not both.

I guess this is about the best I can explain it, I hope this helps out your software. :D

I managed to tweak the code to allow entering Client ID and Channel ID in separate fields like I wanted them to work.

Just wondering how you did this. Did you make separate "Channel ID" fields accounting for different channels?

I think there's a glitch with the admins. If a mod or someone deletes a post on the page that the ad is on, the ad will repeat itself over and over again after every post. Only admins see this. Not sure about global mods or regular mods.

The only thing I'd suggest is making the navbar a default option since it seems to be a practical place to put a 468x60 banner but I think you mentioned including it in future upgrades.

What I would like to see added to this mod is the ability to turn off only adverts.

Let me explain....

I use this mod to not only display adverts but also, at the top of the right column, I use it to show links to important parts of the site and the latest X posts in the forums. Then below that I have the adverts.

Since I cannot turn off just a part of the right column I have to use a second mod (Ultimate Side Columns) in a way that displays the links etc but no adverts and switch between the two depending on which usergroup a visitor is in.

If this mod could be changed in such a way as to use blocks for the side columns that can be turned off individually per usergroup it would save me from having to use a bunch of tricks trying to make use of two mods for the same area of the page.

Something like:

Block #1:

Usergroups to NOT display to; (text box for usergroup numbers)
Usergroups to display to; (text box for usergroup numbers)

Then a box to input code to display for these groups.

Block #2:

Usergroups to NOT display to; (text box for usergroup numbers)
Usergroups to display to; (text box for usergroup numbers)

Then a box to input code to display for these groups.

Block #3:

Usergroups to NOT display to; (text box for usergroup numbers)
Usergroups to display to; (text box for usergroup numbers)

Then a box to input code to display for these groups.


etc etc

This way I can have block #1 with the links and other stuff and Block #2 will be code for the adverts and they can be turned off for certain groups. It would allow me to keep my links but turn off the adverts and keep me from having to jury-rig the forums to get what I'm needing.

You tag each link and Google Analytics tracks them. It doesn't allow sponsors to log in and check at your forum but that's not something I'd do anyway, I'd send out an email of statistics. If I were to include statistics.

I think that option was removed in more recent versions, if it wasn't then it will certainly be removed by version 4. Usergroups should be used instead.

Image #3 shows the bottom of the Ad Management Header/Footer page in my AdminCP. As you can see it says nothing in the blue areas. This isn't really a problem if everything else works properly, but I wanted to go ahead and ask about it because I'd assumed it would say "Navbar Advertisement."

I'm sure I've made some silly mistake, but I'd really appreciate it if you could help me fix it.

Well, i have got some problem on board.
I want to include Google ads on forumbits and thread bits.
I have listed all forum id's in the box, but only first 3 shows me the ads, others just have a blank space.

i have this working on my site sort of, the bottom banners are working....the top banners wont, im not too worried cos i have another program doing that. the thing i want to get working right is the side banners....how can i adjust the width of of the main forums so it fits in the screen without having to scroll the screen to see them?

Presumably that means you are using a fixed width style. Go to the Stylevars section of your theme (in the Styles & Templates section of the AdminCP) and change the top variable to have a % number instead of a px number. You style may not have been designed to do this though, in which case there's not a lot you can do about it.

I'm not sure if this has been asked/addressed before or not - so apologies if I am re-posting a question.

When I login as an administrator, I see the right hand "sponsored links".
When I login as just a registered user, I don't see anything.

I've looked in the usergroups permissions and in the Ad Management vB options, and I haven't seen anything that sets permissions on who should see the ads or not.

Has anyone else encountered this issue?
Is there somewhere else I need to go to set permissions for usergroups?
Should I re-install?

nevermind - right as I clicked Post I saw what I was missing.

In vb Ad Management Global Settings, "Display advertisements to Usergroups" had a value. I meant to put that in "Do NOT display advertisements to Usergroups".

You can use it for any code you like. Navigate to AdminCP > vBulletin Options > vBulletin Options and there are several screens of options for vB Ad Management. It should be reasonably self-explanatory if you have fully followed the Instructions in the first post.

100% is what it should be set at. That's 100% of the available screen width. There must be something else in the design of your forum that is pushing it out. It's not really anything to do with vB Ad Management, it's a style issue.

However google ads appear if i post my own google ad code in the " Static advertisement code " and disable the ads sharing feature.

I have installed it and added my ad code and even turned it on and included all usergroups to see ads, but logged in or guest account I do not see any ads of any sort - header, footer, under posts, pms, left or right side. I've turned them all on to test and no luck. What am I missing?

I'm inclined to think it's a problem at Google's end since the header one is working fine and the postbit one doesn't show up but the code is inserted correctly and is actually a link. There's just nothing displayed in the link. Give it a bit of time, see if it rectifies.

Yes. I'm using it with 3.6.8 alongside several other add-ons. Either you've done something wrong or one of your other add-ons is interfering with this one.

Is there a way to have specific sets of ads show up in specific forums? I installed this mod, but I need the ability to have forum specific advertising to show up in the threads, after the last post. This gives the advertisements their maximum implact since they are directed towards the specfic topics covered in that particular forum

What is the problem with script code exactly? It's not the same issue as yahoooh if it's problematic specific to that. Is the output source code for the <script></script> tags exactly the same as what you're putting in the adcode box?

After uninstalling 3.0 beta, installed a fresh 3.14 version.

I have checked in templates and the necessary changes have been made so the plugin should work fine, however the ad is only showing in archive pages not in the forums.
