I've installed v3.1.1 on vb3.6.5. Absolutely nothing shows up! I followed all the instructions, modified the templates as specified, made sure everything in the CP was enabled, used plain text instead of scripts, and it's as if nothing is installed...

I can only suggest rechecking your settings, making sure the template edits are done correctly (and that you're using the style with the template edits) and remembering that you aren't able to see your own shared code if you're using Adsharing. You must view someone else's.

I had to upload the "includes" folder as-is and NOT separate the individual files out.

Edit the leftcolumn_advertisement template. Adding border="0" somewhere should do it.

Ok everyone, just a little reminder here to those whom it applies and some unfortunate unpleasantness for which I apologise in advance. The copyright notice in the footer is not optional, you cannot remove it yourself or rename it to look like you wrote vB Ad Management yourself.

It's disrespectful to the amount of time I've put into developing it and giving pretty good support if I may say so, it's disrespectful to the honest individuals who paid money in exchange for the right to remove the copyright link and it's disrespectful to everyone who is considerate enough to appreciate the all the above and leave the copyright link displayed in their footer to help out. And that's quite a lot of people (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=%22vB+Ad+Management+by+%3DRedTyger%3D%22&btnG=Search). Some of those are very big forums indeed. If they can do it, so can you.

Let me quote from vBulletin's License Agreement:


The Software may not be used for anything that would represent or is associated with an Intellectual Property violation, including, but not limited to, engaging in any activity that infringes or misappropriates the intellectual property rights of others, including copyrights, trademarks, service marks, trade secrets, software piracy, and patents held by individuals, corporations, or other entities.



That is quite clear and it applies to every modification that has been contributed to this forum just as much as it does to anything else. vBulletin can and have before taken action against people who misappropriate other's work here. It is, after all, something of a personal subject to them.

So, if you are removing my copyright link or recrediting it to yourself (believe it or not, I've seen it) then now would really be the time to do the right thing. By which I mean put the link back. I can live with people messing me around, it's not pleasant but that's the way of the Internet. But when I have people giving me their sincere thanks and appreciation and perhaps even donating money as a mark of respect I get upset that there are others who care little enough to do as they please and make fools of those who are decent enough to be honest and I'm quite prepared to even the score on their behalf.

I think everyone should show their appreciation (for every mod they use). If you got paid by everyone I'm sure you would have the incentive (and money) to create more excellent mods.

Thank you very much indeed, that's very kind of you. :) I am sorry to have had to stop doing brand-free because I know some people will just go elsewhere and I liked giving the option. But it was a small amount of money even for brand free and I would guess at least half the people who wanted brand-free paid the wrong amount, gave me the wrong contact details, didn't provide the required information, didn't read the instructions...basically it was just wasn't working and the money didn't cover the hassle.

There is no support for advertisement submission at this time. It will fit in easily with Usergroups, you have full control over who can see them and in the case of adsharing, who can use them as well.

Are you using a whitespace stripper? It searches for two lines in the footer, $cronimage and the comment following it. If either of those are change it won't be added.

Well as far as I can see, the problem is with his modification not mine. So there's no reason to use an older version.

Well I downloaded his modification and gave it a go and I have to tell you, it's saying that postbit_advertisement is being cached just fine. So I guess I take back what I said about his code. :D

Perhaps you could try making sure both of our modifications have been installed correctly and that no other mods are interfering.

I really wish that I could give you more information, but I keep receiving these errors via email ever since I installed the AD Management add-on. Sometimes when I receive the email and I click on the link, I also get the error and other times not. I have clicked around on my site like a maniac trying to duplicate it independently, but have been unable. :( It only happened one time today versus about 40 yesterday so maybe it was a fluke...

Also, I just noticed that my ads are not showing up under firefox even if I am not logged in. I tried deleting out the cache and the google cookies and came back into Firefox and still there were no ads. Any ideas on this?

Not necessarily. I could equally say I know my mod is working fine because you're the only person having problems, according to vBulletin itself you're not having problems at all, and according to his modification installed on my test forum both of our modifications are working perfectly. :)

So...well, I don't know what else to say. I can find no problems in either of our software and regardless of that it's vBulletin's reporting that I would listen to and it also says there's no problems. Wherever the reason lies, it simply sounds like an incorrect report on your forum. I can find nothing to fix.

Exactly what it says :) &nbsp;. It replaces an empty space in a table cell to the right of the vBulletin logo, though a lot of people seem to have it removed for some reason. It can go anywhere.

Downloaded file and unzipped
Uploaded product
Done these:
* Go to Style Manager > Edit Templates and...
* Find <!-- post $post[postid] popup menu --> and paste $postbit_advertisement above it in your postbit & postbit_legacy templates.
* Paste $forumbit_advertisement at the bottom of your forumhome_forumbit_level1_post and forumhome_forumbit_level2_post templates.
* Paste $threadbit_advertisement at the bottom of your threadbit template.
* Paste $footer_advertisement at the top of your footer template.
* Find $spacer_close in your footer template and below it paste $rightcolumn_advertisement.
* Find &nbsp; in your header template and replace it with $header_advertisement.
* Find $spacer_open in your header template and below it paste $leftcolumn_advertisement.

There is an includes folder among all the files you uploaded to your server to install vBulletin. You must place the contents of the zipped includes folder into the vBulletin includes folder so the path reads includes/vb_ad_management/files on your server.

When you take a minute to look at those, could you do it in firefox and see if the ads show up for you? I think that I have a problem with my Firefox, but I don't have another PC to check it on.

I'm 99% certain now that it's vBSEO that is causing these problems. Not a problem with their software, but I'm guessing that it alters thread and post details enough to cause an error in my modification, which uses the default details.

I don't mind implementing a workaround for vBSEO users if it's not too arduous, but it might be a bit tricky to deal with, since I have no testing copy of vBSEO and I can't look at their code to help with fixes anyway because they encrypt it all.

If either of you is able to get support from vBSEO, you could ask on my behalf and see if they can tell you what the problem is. Just tell them that you're trying to pull details from the database using:

this plugin is purely for ad management only (I believe!). I guess the things you are looking for will not be available in the plugin.. so you have to search around vb.org to get it. I'm sure somewhere.. someone has designed it already. =)

The purple border I can live with and putting border ="0" won't get rid of it because it's a border around the cell and not the image. What is so annoying to me is the sliver of cream colored background under the ad. I got rid of the large matting around the ad but I can't figure out how to get rid of that last little bit. It's almost as if there is a &nbsp in the code somewhere but I can't find one....anyone? If someone wants a black ad it will look really strange.

Again, this is done with the default vBulletin features. When you're setting up the premium usergroup, there's an option for "Username Markup" (near the top). In the first box put <em> and in the second box put </em>. Voila, italic usernames for premium members.

That's correct, it is not possible to do ad-sharing without using the plugin. The ordinary advertisement organisation is possible without, for the most part. It just makes it easier this way.

If there's other bugs, as apparently there are, they'll all be fixed together in the next update. So for now, I'm afraid not. But it's very easy to just paste it in the bottom of the footer template instead.

I tuned off my ad for now as I was just testing it for future use. The background around the left column ad was from the cell it was in. I had to make the color of the first alternating color the same as the background color to get rid of it. But I appreciate you checking my site for me!

I'm afraid you don't have it set to display to Guests, that's the Usergroup option in Global Settings. The default is 6, which is admin usergroup only.

Putting images next to each is easy, the code would look something like this:

<img src="img1" /> <img src="img2" /> <img src="img3" /> <img src="img4" />

If all you want to do is add 4 images to the index page you can do without the plugin entirely and just paste the images code directly into the FORUMHOME template.

To display it below the links bar, just remove $header_advertisement from the header template and post it at the bottom of the navbar template. That would seem the easiest solution.

Every location has a choice of random or static advertisements. I can't guarantee that you won't see the same advertisement twice in a row but they will all get exactly equal time in the spot.

You should still upgrade, there are other improvements. Ad-sharing is disabled by default.

Alter the postbit(_legacy)_advertisement template like so. Surround the contents with a conditional:

You will upload the includes folder. Basically, you will be overwriting the old files. Go into your FTP and find the includes folder and upload the contents of the Includes folder from your desktop.

You have to creat the ad in OpenAds, then generate the code for remote invocation. That code is what you put in your vB Ad block.

I would explain the whole process, but that is really complicated. You have to learn to love OpenAds....

I've searched this thread and couldn't find anything other than making it $global[header_advertisement] which didn't work it just messed up the forum. however if you login, the ad will be rotated properly.

so just wondering how you manage to solve it?

hello, i'm having trouble integrating it with vbadvanced, www.EntrepreneurForum.co.uk - i want it unde the left side, under the search forums. I've searched this thread and couldn't find anything other than making it $global[header_advertisement] which didn't work it just messed up the forum. Do you know how to get it under the search forms part, the best i've done is get it to run along side the site navigation.

If you have other modifications installed, try disabling them and seeing if that makes a difference. You're the first to report a blank white page as far as I can remember...

Are you using vBSEO? If so, ensure you're using the latest version of the modification, I put this issue down to a conflict with that modification. Possibly incorrectly.

milsirhc told me to remove the id from "Enable Ad Sharing for Usergroups:"
and in actual fact i removed everything from that field since the very beginning.

but i still get the same issue.

and the problem still persist.

This is partial code from my header template indicating where $ad is placed. I have no ad showing. Tested ads in other parts of forum and everything works ok. Just a problem with the header. Tried selecting Yes for Header, tried for Footer, tried for static and tried for random. Zip.

Removed the semi-colon after $header_advertisement in my header code. Copied code from the right-side ad that is working and pasted it into static content section of your header management.

It worked fine.

I used the remote invocation code generated by openads but removed all references to zones in the invocation code. I used both WordPad and Notepad for changing the code, not MSWord, and they both worked fine.

Removed: document.write ("&amp;what=zone:4");
from around the middle of invocation code.

Also removed: what=zone:4
from last line of invocation code.

Your zone numbers will be different than mine.

I copied and pasted changed invocation code into the rotating ad section of the header/footer part of vB Ad Management. I separated the code so that a regular banner and a leaderboard would rotate.

I also used <center> and </center> at top and bottom of invocation code on the banners. I might change this to left later instead of center.

Are you sure the files have been uploaded to the right location? Now I think I do remember someone with this problem and it was the cause. For you, they should be at http://www.4newbiesforum.com/includes/vb_ad_management/(file).php.

I apologize if this has already been asked, I did search the thread before asking but couldn't find it...

2 things actually...

First, what is this used for exactly? "To name a custom adcode block"...etc... I don't get it.

Second, This looks like an all or nothing type of modification. For example... Say I have a forum for sporting goods with forums setup such as:

baseball
football
basketball

and I want to have google ads for baseball target the baseball forum, football to the football forum, etc... This mod appears that baseball adsense ads would also appear in the football and basketball forums.

I'd like to be able to target certain adsense channels to their cooresponding sports so I don't have baseball ad's showing up in the basketball forums.

Hope I explained that the right way.

Actually I use google adsense. And whatever is on that forum, appears in my ads. I have several topics. For my media thread, I get stuff to do with media. For my gaming thread, I have stuff to do with games. Sports, I get sports. Now I have different subjects inside those topics. I have football, and in that, I do see football only, same with the baseball. As for that, if you use google Adsense, they do a good job with keeping on topic. I say you have no worries.

I've paid for permission to remove all references to vB with my vB licence so would like to remove the vB prefix in the copyright.

That's fine with me, although the only forum software I do modifications for is vBulletin so it won't throw people much. But if that's what you need, no problem. Same goes for anyone else, but only removing the vB part is permissable. Change nothing else please.

You can exclude forums from displaying advertisements but not assign advertisements to a specific forum. I'd like to do that but there'll be no immediate feature updates for the time being I'm afraid.

Make sure that Usergroup 1 has permission to view ads in Global Settings.

There's no reason for it to show up even once when disabled, never mind lots of times at any other time. Something must be interfering with the plugin.

Hm, that's a little crazy. You have a custom theme so I can't really say for sure, but you can fiddle around with the postbit_advertisement template and see if you can get it to match the custom code in your postbit template.

Do you have the plugin installed? If so, you just find the menu in AdminCP > vBulletin Options > vB Ad Management and paste the code into the boxes there. You can set the other settings on the page as you like, it's quite easy. :)

and i pasted the html code in (Threadbit static advertisement code)

but i cant see the image the image i made it in html code i added it in footer template manually and i can see it but when i use your mod i cant see the image

Are you sure? I just had a proper look and there's extra incorrect code in there which is not mine.

Try removing this:

Download the zip file and upload the plugin just the same as you did with 3.04 making sure overwrite is set to yes.

Then using an FTP program (presumably) navigate to where your forum files are on your web server and then open the includes folder. In the zip file is a folder called vb_ad_management, copy that folder to the includes folder on your server.

That's it!

In the postbit_complete.php file there is a line that contains THIS_SCRIPT == 'showthread'. you add && THIS_SCRIPT == 'search' immediately after it and overwrite the default postbit_complete.php file it should allow inclusion in the search postbit as well using the postbit_advertisement template and postbit_adcode adcode, although whether it will actually appear I don't know. Depends on whether the default settings allow it I suppose. Beyond that I'm afraid you're on your own...

Got it. Although the scripts would trigger if THIS_SCRIPT was 'search', none of the search hooks were being used.

So I copied the plugin that was triggered at hook location 'threadbit_display' and created a new plugin to trigger at hook location 'search_results_threadbit'

I now have ads in my search results :)

Are you sure the files have been uploaded to the right location? Now I think I do remember someone with this problem and it was the cause. For you, they should be at http://www.4newbiesforum.com/includes/vb_ad_management/(file).php.

Only one field may shared. What you could do is instead of asking people to input their adsense account is ask them to input the entire two rows of the adsense code and replace both rows with #shared#, but I'm not sure how many people would do that properly. You can share any amount of code so there's nothing to stop you simply sharing the entire adsense code if you wanted, which might work better than just the two rows but would be harder to restrict what people could input.

You must upload the contents of the includes folder in the zip file to the includes folder of your vBulletin installation.

Sorry guys, I haven't yet finished with the modifications to fully allow channel ID to be entered along with the client ID.

At this stage it works absolutely fantastic with the adsense code added to the header template. Haven't yet worked on the postbit, footer and the other parts where this add-on can control how ads should be displayed.

I'm not sure if there were an easier way to do this, but I have just rewriten the code to add the client ID. Also, I have made database additions to a few tables, still working on it...

I don't see how it would be possible without extensive code modification and another custom field, no. Sounds like you're taking the approach I would have done.

I may possibly look into formatting the modification in way that adding extra shared fields is a 2 minute cut-and-paste job like adding custom adcode blocks, but there hasn't been much demand for it and I'm currently looking into per-forum adcode for the moment.

Actually I might be able to now. Someone asked me for help about it saying that the multiple-line issue occurred every few days, sounding like a scheduled task from a modification was interfering temporarily.

So I'll see what I hear back. I can say without question that it's not my modification causing the problem.

ok cool, yeah somedays theres like 1 then it builds up from there up to 6, then sometimes those 6 goes back to one, its magic or something lol,

I just turned off the vb admanagement and reenabled it and it went back to 1

It does appear to be an issue with either a scheduled task or caching. I've noticed that if I go into the settings and change something and then hit save, the multiple copyrights go back to one. Then the next day they go to two, then three, etc. It builds up over time so it has to be somehow related to how things are cached or the scheduled tasks.

I'm currently using version 3.02 and think it is a great hack.
Just a quick question before I update.

Do I just upload the product file and the folder in the /includes section to my server and that is it updated?
The reason I ask is because when looking on my server I couldn't find any of the old files in that location.

You mean difference & for different usergroups? That is not currently possible.

Try opening the global_start.php file of the vB Ad Management files and finding $spacer_open. This is where the right column begins, it looks to me like you might have another table or something after or surrounding spacer open, which the right column is trying to fit inside of. So try replacing both uses of $spacer_open with something further toward the end of your header code, after your new table.

That is a problem with Google, sometimes all the ads don't show up and they don't allow more than 3 per page, the rest will be blank.

You have image code in your adcode...find it and add border="0" to the image code. :)

I am sorry if this has been covered before. The ad management is working great, however, I would like the side ad to appear in the forum, but not my CMS (vbadvanced). Check out myfishsite.com You'll see that the ad makes the homepage awkward! So again, I would like the side ad only in the forums, not vbadvanced! Thanks in advance for the help, great mod btw!

You need to find out what the THIS_SCRIPT definition for vB Advanced is because I can't remember myself, but you just need to add it to the Global Settings and all adverts will be excluded from that page.

I can answer this one for you. Go to your vBulletin Options and look for the Ad Management Header/Footer options. That page is where you'll find the spaces for random banners. Separate each banner ad code with a comma or whatever you told it to use in your global settings. (I use a comma.)

Of course I spoke too soon. I've followed the directions - replacing every instance of custom with navbar and I've got a couple of problems.

I'm attaching images to show you what's up.

I've got three places for adcode. Header, footer, and I'd like to add one inside the navbar. The header and footer ones are currently working properly.

Image #1 shows where I want the navbar ad to appear. I need to know where in the Navbar Template I put $navbar_advertisement to get it to show up there.

Image #2 shows what happens right now when I put $navbar_advertisement at the bottom of the navbar code. You can see that I've circled an image and words that shouldn't be there. I could live with the ads being below the navbar, although I'd prefer them inside, but of course I'd rather it look right.

Image #3 shows the bottom of the Ad Management Header/Footer page in my AdminCP. As you can see it says nothing in the blue areas. This isn't really a problem if everything else works properly, but I wanted to go ahead and ask about it because I'd assumed it would say "Navbar Advertisement."

I'm sure I've made some silly mistake, but I'd really appreciate it if you could help me fix it.

Javascript rotators are not really a terribly good alternative to this method as they rely on the viewer allowing javascript in their browser. Most do, some don't. Mobile devices don't have javascript at all as far as I know. This will work for everyone!

This is a problem that occasionally crops up, it seems to have something to do with interference from another installed modification. It would be very helpful if you could try disabling some of your other installed products and seeing if that makes a difference.
