How can I also make it so that usergroups with Arcade privs can only see the Arcade link in the navbar?

I've had a lot of rude emails from people (all of them anonymous, I might add) - a lot of them *demanding" changes, new additions, and new games. That's where things start to annoy me. When people go so far as to make demands (and in one case, a threat) for work to be done, I lose all interest in what I'm doing here.

I would love to convert games, code free addons, etc. for a living - but since that isn't an option, I have to earn money another way. Please be patient, this whole thing is give, give, give. I don't get anything back, and I don't expect to - I'd be happy with just a little more consideration from some people! Right, I wasn't demanding or even really asking. I was requesting, not complaining. If money is an issue, then I'm sure $ could be offered (by myself) for an uninstaller that works.

The swf files arn't that big at all. I don't have a significant b/w increase since the arcade is online... (i guess you can compare it with couple of pics in a gallery)

Go to admincp => usergroups => edit usergroup permissions

you can exclude any group to view/play/add comments/etc...

I have 2000+ members on my forum and virtually all my members play challanges along side most of the games pretty regularly and to be honest, i've found the bandwidth increase to be minimal. It's gone up by maybe 30-40meg a month for me. The initial burst on your bandwidth will be a lot higher, but once your members get over that initial novelty value and start playng the games when they feel like it rather than because it's shiny and new, it levels out pretty quickly. :)

I have installed this hack, and I have in the list of games, Chopper Attack, and Copter. What I didn't know when I installed them is that these contain porn links in them, which does not go well with my site. I would like to completely remove these games, is there any way to do this, or am I out of luck?

John -- You're doing a great job..... don't listen to these guys. The Arcade is inredibly popular on my board -- and I have close to 200 online users at a time. They love it!

The only gripe I had -- I came up with my own solution. It was with the high scores. The people who were champions were getting angry that they were losing their spot after a prune.

I just redid the code a little bit where I manually change these myself if someone breaks a score. The scores are so high anyhow -- I rarely have to change anything. It's a quick workaround until a better solution is in place. Mine is very "crude" to say the least.

I would personally be willing to donate or use my board as a testing ground for NetPlay.

If you can't go backwards and uninstall a hack -- you probably shouldn't be making modifications to your board anyhow.

Hmmm, my init.php is modified in different ways, that wouldn't help you out,
but i could take a look at yours if you wanna...
Put it in a txt file, set it online somewhere and mail me the link maybe...

Everybody loves it :D

Install went smooth on RC4.
One prob though.... same as some others have posted: From time to time the highscores don't get submitted. I have 35 members playing the arcade since i installed it friday, and atm 602 games have been played. Of those games, 10 users reported a highscore submit failure (15 failures total on 600 games, about 2,5 percent), each time only if they got a new highscore.
When i look into the db i see this (15x)
INSERT INTO `gamesessions` VALUES (385 'asteroids' 13 1079106926 NULL NULL 'No Comment' 0 0 1 " NULL);"
Notice that the finish and ping are null
All other games sessions score fine.

I just spend 3 days reading all 3 arcade threads, which is over 1990 posts in 128 pages... omg! I know you told peepz over and over to check the code and i did (i use notepad for all c/p'ing). Can't find any error (not saying there is, but i can't find it if my life depended on it :(
I tried the solution from LightBringer: changing IE language settings to English (US) but most users have the language set correctly so that didn't solve it.
I can't try what Detomah did, upgrade to RC3 since i already run RC4. Too bad he never found the solution to the prob, it just "went away"....

I installed the hack on a fresh RC4 forum with no other hacks. I checked the db and there are no high pings, none that come close to the 4500 you mentioned earlier.

Hope i gave enough info and that someone here has any idea what the problem is or what i'm doing wrong.
The ++++ty part is, that if the error was randomly i couldn't care too much. But it happens when someone gets a new highscore and since the scores are getting higher and more difficult to beat, users get sad when their effort to finally beat a highscore doesn't get recorded :(

The funny thing is, i installed the hack on my gf's board too and she has no probs... yet (well not too funny actually ;)

hi, John, can i first of all say that the arcade is an absouletly stunning hack, and i hope u realise how many people have used ur arcade throught the internet with over 300+ installs, i have a small board and all my users love it i cant imagine any forum that doesnt.

ok i was running on RC3, but have recently upgraded to RC4 so i could intall a certain skin, i have reintalled most my hacks but the arcade is causing me a bit of fuss.

No matter what i do nobody at all can reach the arcade, as nobody has permission :S . I have done everything on the admincp in terms of permissions and stuff but still dont know why it does this. PLEASE help!

But it will be hard to cheat for the arcade, not impossible but it will take a LOT of effort since the game interfaces with vbb during the game and not just send the score like the old arcade hacks.

I believe 1 or 2 flashgames have a little bug in them that allowed cheating, but those should have been fixed. IF you find another just let it know here.

I find it incredibly asinine that you flaunt your "updates" and "honors" through a mailing list ("- v3 Arcade wins the first ever vBulletin.org Hack of the Month (for a vBulletin 3 hack) Thanks to everyone who voted! :) - https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=61385") - a mailing list that I didn't subscribe to, yet throughout this entire thread you offer no real support to people who need it. A third-grader could write a better install script than you have provided, but weeks have come and gone and you have failed to take initiative to correct something that should have never been released in the first place.

Reading through your posts, both here and at your site, it seems to me that you have created this hack not to provide a service to the vB community, but to make a name for yourself. When an author of a hack agrees to offer support, he obligates himself to address issues vB users have with the hack. im glad u are a minority voice as your post is way ott - John is right is what he said - there have been many successful installs of his hack and it does work fine - infact id have to go so far as to say it was one of the easiest i have done.Skill level for this hack is deffo easy so back off a bit cause you aint getting what you want.

Is it any wonder hackers are getting pissed off at people cause they release hacks only to get abuse from members?

If you cant get the hack to work and support aint adequate in this thread for u then put it down to experience that this hack aint for u and move on - dont come flamin in the post as that aint gonna get you nowhere.

Who says I wasn't able to install the hack? I was able to install it just fine, schmoe. Of course, it took me rewriting part of the install script in order to get the templates to install for all styles, but I managed.

And of those users, how many have received a response from John stating something to the effect of, "You don't know what you're doing. It's not my fault"? If you're going to have such a self-righteous attitude, it would be best that you keep your hack to yourself for private use on your own forum.

As for the unsolicited e-mail... that, my friend, is called SPAM. So, if you got hack of the month, you would e-mail everyone bragging about it? Chances are the people who installed the hack also keep up with the thread, so really it's pointless. Hey lasto... I just busted a nut. What's your e-mail address? I'm so excited, I could shout it from the rooftops - so I figured I may as well e-mail you to let you know about it as well. Please.

2 installs on 2 forums, both smooth, 1 works 100% and one forks on highscore submit at random games/plays. So it's not the "i can never submit or do not have permission" prob that some users have and that has been tracked down and solved! It's the same problem 3 other users had and which none weren't able to track down (one fix with a vbb upgrade, one fix with that weird language change, but neither found out why it forked, and one who never was able to fix it)
Been looking at it for a week now, read the instructions over and over but still can't find it.
Could it be a conflict in php version or mysql version that causes this? Or the webserver software?

I'll prolly make a clean install of vbb once vbb3 gold is out, and apply the hack from scratch again, but since i can't figure the error out it's like the casino... gamble if that solves my problem. And even if it does i still won't know the casue hence another user faces the same situation of no solve if he faces this problem.

If anyone has any suggestion besides checking my code for the 10th time then please tell me!

Reading through your posts, both here and at your site, it seems to me that you have created this hack not to provide a service to the vB community, but to make a name for yourself. When an author of a hack agrees to offer support, he obligates himself to address issues vB users have with the hack. If you don't want to offer support, that's fine... but don't be one of those "over-worked and under-appreciated" programmers who thinks the whole community should lick his ballz just because he "said so." If such a number of webmasters, people who obviously are somewhat html/php savvy, are having problems with your instructions, you may want to reconsider how clear your instructions are.

"Given that..." if it's fame that you're seeking, you may want to consider an attitude check as yours is one of the most childish and arrogant ones I've seen on the net in a while. If you genuinely want to offer something to the vB community, you need to learn that your way isn't always the right way and listen to the people who are using your hack. People simply don't follow the instructions properly. By providing support for this hack, am I expected to check through everyone's installation line by line, looking for mistakes? In the majority of cases, people fix their own problems by double checking things - there's nothing I can do. But I recognise those who have geniune problems, and try to help them the best I can.

That sounds like a problem with the FLASH not the programming since the PHP can't submit for you you need the flash to initiate it bro. Perhaps something on your computer is screwed up. But that couldnt be... it could never be your computer right.. ;)

heh anyways i would look at your BROWSER your using, then the flash your using. If anything, instead of reinstalling the hack.. try reinstalling your browser and flash version. Give that a shot. If all else fails, shoot your computer.

I tired looking as well, this looks like a MYSQL problem not a V3ARCADE problem. Perhaps your mysql has reached its limit bro, i have seen it many times when hosts put caps on queries and storage, better check to make sure you havent made any database changes.

But they upload when using Netscape or Opera....just not for IE users :ninja:

But a few of my users have it, and a few don't.
Hence your suggestion of browser and flash version may be good points.

I'll start a inquiry among my users how often it happens and what browser and flash version they use. Maybe i can track down the problem.

I'll even have some of the problem users try the arcade on John's site, and see if they experience the same problems there too. Cause his install is fine so if they get the same prob there then i know it's not my install.
Although it happens mostly on new highscores and john's site has quite high scores making it difficult to beat ;) Guess i'll look for a more inexperienced site's arcade instead, hehe.

So i tried to undo the templates and all the changes, but i couldn't find them.

What does the first step do? Can i do undo it?

So, the steps to upgrade:

1) Upload all Gold files and upgrade vb.
2) Edit all files again following installation.txt instructions, and upload.
3) Add the arcade templates to styles.

Is that it? Sorry im a little lost. Theres an arcadeoptions column in the 'users' table, wont that affect the upgrade?

You used Dreamweaver to edit the functions.php . Don't do that.

Use Notepad or the normal texteditor o change the functions.php . Make the Changes again with this tools.

I just wanna say that I upgraded from rc4 to gold. I didn't even uninstall the arcade (don't know how), and all I had to do to get it running again was rehack the php files. The arcade runs every bit as good as it did before, and I got to keep my scores too. :D

As with everyone else who's had the same problem, you've made a file modification error. Check again. (global.php and init.php)

After updating to VB3 gold I've noticed my latest arcade score isn't updating any longer.

I have emptied the contents of the gamesession table, and it works from that point on, but when I put all the old information back in, it appears to select a random score from the Alien Clones game.

All the new scores are being added to the table, just the latest score thing isn't getting the right information.

The session id is upto 2100 if that helps.

I was installing games, and thought that i forgot to click Install on one of them, so i went back, and Internet Explorer said the the page has expired, and that i need to resend the data, so i did, and now I have 2 Alien Attack games :)

Right, so i went to phpMyAdmin, table games, clicked browse, found the dupe entry, removed it. Everything seems fine now, just the game id's a bit outta order.

well first you would evaluate by looking at the hack in the working style, its no where near as much as copy paste method of several templates to many styles,
would be a pain tho if you had a lotta lotta styles but under 10 is no real hardship.

im sure a multiple style option will get built in as many here have reported the same problem.

I find it easier to make everything a child style and just install all of the templates to the single parent style.

while that would appear to be true as it installed first time round to the selected style trying to install templates to different selected styles wasnt doing it hence my force method in the install script

wierd but still I got what i wanted its in all my active styles with relevant ease :)
No detrament to you or your hack its great, just keep the template install as the first step till you add style options, if you ever do ;) personally I think, tho theres a nice selection allready, more quality games is more important.

oh and how about the irc announce new champions idea, im sure it would be easy to implement, you could probly take the irc notify with eggdrop for vb2.x and hack that too work or get the base code method from it, I just dont have enough knowledge on php to make it. Got np installing well documented hacks like this one or even making minor changes to hacks to suit my purpose.

And to anyone having troubles installing this hack, the problem is more than likely install error with php editing than a bad installer script, except the style problem,

I've tested this locally and it worked then when changing my live forums I think I uploaded each file that needed to be edited but after playing a game it won't submit the score so right now it says "score 0" at each game. Any idea what I did wrong? Sorry if this has been answered. A search didn't come with anything useful.

Uploaded 47 files and only manually made another edit to functions.php to make vbadvanced work (only difference between the test and live forum), made the changes to templates, etc.

I feel like an idiot. I should have known better but after upgrading to Gold, I updated all of my php files and templates, and then I ran the install_arcade.php file again. It gave me an error and now when a game is completed it just takes me back to the arcade.php screen. Did this put an extra table in my database or something? Any help that someone can give me on correcting this would be much appreciated.

A bug maybe related to this: I have 4 styles, 3 childs and 1 parent. The arcade templates were added to a child style which was selected during the installation/default layout.

This is really odd. I got it going again, everything is ok database wise now, from what I can tell. However it only works on one style. I see the suggestion above so I will go back and correct that by hand. However on the one that does work, the scores are not saved at all. I play the game and it takes me right back to the list of games. I guess that the same problem that Ogmuck is having. I wonder what the deal is.

When I play snake for example it just keeps saying that it is submitting the score. What I did to get it to work with all the styles is copy and pasting every arcade template. So making new custom templates in the parent style and then revert them in the child style. But this doesn't fix the score issue. The database looks fine too upon glancing at it through phpmyadmin

Upload the two images files to the ...forum/images/arcade/ folder
Upload the ****.game.php file to the forum/admincp/ folder
upload the ****.swf file to the forum/games/ folder

go to yourURL/forum/admincp/****.game.php to install the game and then delete the file...

Could someone please help me with the problem I mentioned earlier? I got more data on it, and apparently, the user DramaQueen, played simon and got a score of 7. This was nowhere near the incredibly high score that SoftBallRawkStar already had (36), and yet the championship is now appearing for DramaQueen in the postbit, and in the arcade profile. It still shows SoftBallRawkStar as the champion in the high scores list. I really badly need to fix this because SoftBallRawkStar is very proud of her high score and feels it is very injust that DramaQueen holds the championship for it.

I have a theory on what's going on here. Perhaps no one expected anybody to get a score that high on simon. Maybe although it still shows up as 36, internally, it started at zero again at 30. This would make the internal score that determines the championships 6, which is one less than DramaQueen's 7. Is this possible?

I've tested this locally and it worked then when changing my live forums I think I uploaded each file that needed to be edited but after playing a game it won't submit the score so right now it says "score 0" at each game. Any idea what I did wrong? Sorry if this has been answered. A search didn't come with anything useful.

Uploaded 47 files and only manually made another edit to functions.php to make vbadvanced work (only difference between the test and live forum), made the changes to templates, etc.

I may have found my culprit. One thing I had installed that I had not thought about was Power Banner. I took the include out and the Arcade works fine!

another edit: Oh my... and it was only an "if script" condition that needed to be included into the phpinclude_start template to fix this. Thanks a ton for sharing the info :)

The only thing this needs is for the challenge option to only appear in the postbit and profile if both parties have permission to play in the arcade. I'm pretty sure this is a simple job using conditionals, but can't quite work out how to do it. If someone has already posted this I apologise but it gets lost in 116 pages.

I installed the arcade on vB3, and everything works fine except when you're finished with the game, it says "please wait while your score is submitted" and nothing ever happens. It doesn't record the high score at all... it doesn't record any scores =/

There is an include for phpadsnew, but I removed it and still had the same problem =/

Not sure if you are aware there is a bug in the Flash Poker game which makes it very easy to cheat, one of my members told me, I tried it and it works so I think you (author of this hack) should remove the game for now, this is how it works anyway:

go into the game and for your first bid put down $5 and play that round, when it comes to your next bid, dont, instead right click on the game and click play, the next set of cards will be dealt and you wont loose any money, all you got to do is repeat that over and over, and the cash builds up easily.

Got it working fine for the majority of members but people in certain usergroups are getting a Permission Denied error (not banned groups either). Any idea why that would be?

caudle- It will be in either your global.php or config.php. Check both very carefully, I had this same problem and John suggested this to me and I found the problem!
