Excellent hack!! Very simple to install even after double and triple checking to make sure I didn't miss anything. Although the following issues have presented themselves.

Hey John, any advice as to why I don't see high scores, time played, personal stats, etc? It's almost as if the numerical values of those items aren't getting set in the db tables properly.

I prefer EditPlus 2, just works better in my experience. I've used UltraEdit for like 1.5 years, then I found EditPlus and have been using that non-stop for like... 2 years straight now. :)

Yes, including.

Let me just point out, that all problems with permissions not working or scores not being submitted have been because the hack was not installed according to the instructions.

If this doesn't work, check the instructions twice over. The problem is almost always the code being pasting in the wrong place. (Or something being added instead of replaced.)

Well I did a minor template change on my forum because the award_postbit was just to big. I also did a bit of table changing(rowspan). if any one would like there arcade_postbit like this just say so and ill post the edited template :speechless:

You haven't installed the hack correctly. (You've probably made a mistake in init.php or global.php)

Not very. One simple query.

The old arcade ran into problems when there were more games. With the v3 Arcade, query numbers always stay the same. (Regardless of the number of games.)

The v3 Arcade wasn't made *just* for vBulletin.org. I always had it in mind to release it here, but it was also intended for use on several of my client's websites.

That's what the netPlay system is for, live multiplayer gaming for these sites. Although it's specifically for these client sites, I'll be offering the service to anyone who wants it.

i know we looked in to it for the bb|messanger hack but due to not having time due to work and then running sites we give that a miss also looked in to file sending ( user to user) but give that a pass and just did the basic user to user chat.

I am never found of automatic installers, there are always risk and I never trust it. Especially when you already have hacks installed.

I didn't even have any problem installing the arcade hack. it was just long took me about 30 minutes but it works.

this is a thoroughly excellent addition! installed without a hitch, and now, about 36 problem-free hours later, my members and i agree that the arcade is awesome!

the only thing i did wonder about was that when checking who's online, a certain number of guests show up that seem to be currently active members who are in the arcade; it seems they're logged out and in again at some point. this isn't a problem, just a curiosity i thought i'd point out and see if anyone else noticed.

in closing tho, john: thankyou. this is thoroughly brilliant. :)

Ah... Well, I had to manually copy and paste the arcade templates from the one style that the install script added it to to the rest of my styles. But to make the process easier, I put all of my styles under one parent style and just added the templates to that one "Master Style." That way, I only had to go through the process of copying/pasting all 26 templates one time.

Alright, no more blank page for me--re hacked init.php and I am now getting the permissions error instead of the blank page. =)

I have set the permissions twice for 2 groups (including admin group) and I still get the permissions problem. I have 2 skins, the default and then 1 I created. I tried with both groups on both skins and still get:

Its either a file edit or this that you might of forgot to add.. the last step in the installation guide.

I wonder if it is that easy Vampireman. In the vbarcade from futureal we could add swf's only if we were able to find the exact scorevariable in the game.

If this is bypassed somehow or implemented in the flash source then the amount of games will increase when this method is shared with us.

as far as i can see no need for scorevariable or a hash, the game sends the score etc.. to the arcade. But it does involve modifying the fla files.

I have looked , but i dont understand fully yet. But it would also be harder to "cheat" as well.

In futureal's arcade, cheating was simply a matter of checking the values going in and out, and then faking post results going into proarcade.php.

The *only* way of making a cheat-proof Flash arcade would be to use SSL encryption. Naturally, that isn't possible for most people.

The v3 Arcade uses a complete different system. All communications that set scores and other variables happen while the game is being played, at the end of the game the page is redirected. There are two stages.

1. At the beginning of gameplay, a new session is set.
2. At the end of gameplay, two communications are made - one directly after the other. Here the score is set, times are added.
3. If both final communications go well, a variable is brought back into Flash which then prompts a redirect to the high scores.

Not mentioning the security stuff, but that's the general idea. That's why adding this stuff requires the source - variable transmission isn't a simple getURL. :(

You're right, there's an issue with the transferring of data between Flash and the arcade. But the cause of that is not the code that actually does the transferring. It's almost certain to be a mistake made in the installation.

John, this is a clean forum with zero hacks installed on it. I've tried the installation about 6 times now with the same results. Other users can use the arcade just fine, but when I try and use it, I get the problems mentioned. I'd be happy to let you peek your head in on the server and see if you can nail down the issue.

Any advice would be great. I'd be happy to try and install it again, but I feel very confident that it's not the installation, nor is it really a problem with the hack. Something is preventing me as a user/admin from being redirected to the high score/comment page.

Nope, not loadVars - sendAndLoad.

Ordinarily, it doesn't take memory editing to cheat. If you know the source code (i.e. you've downloaded it from vb.org), you can easily see which actions to send your faked POST data to. Indeed, if you didn't have access to the source you'd need a packet sniffer to check to see what data was being sent, and then replicate it.

However, this still isn't the system that I use.

The v3 Arcade's games "talk" to vBulletin, vBulletin measures the time between each communication. If that time is greater than 5 seconds, it's very likely that someone is trying to manually send the data through a script. I.e. they prepare the data to send, send it, and start preparing the second batch of data. There are also a couple of basic calculations which make it more difficult for someone to cheat through firing off scripts with POST data.

In essence, the only way to cheat is to write a program to send and receive data the data rapidly, process is correctly, and send it back in the correct format. Only a very sad individual would be prepared to go to those lengths!

Are you using IE? If so, I'd check the security settings/levels. I know I've had many problems with websites and then upon setting the security settings to default all my problems go away.

There will be 5 live multiplayer games to choose from, to begin with. It runs off customised XML socket server software, which needs to be installed on a server. For my clients, they're going to be using my dedicated socket server to run netPlay from.

I don't have a problem with sharing with vb.org, but they would need access to a socket server running this software.

I suggest you use more requirements though because when I had the other arcade hack installed on vb2 with a postcount requirement, people started spamming the forums. So I suggest you add reputation requirement in that promotion too.

Well i have installed your hack and already members have started flooding it. I would really like this feature personally, sometimes users get the most stupid scores and it's totally unfair, it's more fun to take 10k off their Snake score to give other members a chance XP

And yes my admins want to cheat.

Edit: Me was wondering ^_^ is their any card games like Blackjack & Poker added? I adore casino games and i'm sure my members would enjoy some to!

I am new to the community and haven't really learned how things work around here... But has anyone tried asking futureal if he still has all of the .fla files from his vbPro Arcade from version 2.x?

Actually, I did not convert the games myself, many others from the community did. vbProArcade v3.0 (for vB3) will have a "legacy mode" that will allow it to work with all of the other vbProArcade games. However, those games will unfortunately not work with John's hack, so unless somebody posted the source to them, I think we're all collectively out of luck for re-modifying the games.

As for competition, I don't mind it; I wrote my arcade for my forums and I re-wrote it for my soon-to-be vB3 forums. I'm happy to share it with others but if they choose to use a different arcade, that's fine by me; this isn't a popularity contest! John has already come up with some cool ideas here that may find their way into mine eventually, and it sounds like the multiplayer thing could be great as well. I look forward to seeing the hack develop.

If I do locate any game sources, I'll be sure to post them. As I said, you might do a search through the old Flash games thread, as there are bound to be sources (or links to sources) posted there.

1.) When you click on the "Your Settings" botton in the arcade I get a blank page with just the Control panel on the left and nothing on the right.

Hmm... Seems like that would be a template-related problem. Maybe you should count the arcade templates and make sure that there are 26, maybe something went wrong in the installation.

OK silly question but some of my members have said that the games seem laggy then all of a sudden speed up, is this simply because my server is US based and most my members are UK or are they talking out there asses ?

Thanks SnowBot, that is one way. I mean having a link in the arcade next to each game, saying something like "Challenge". Then a username would be entered and the process begin. 90% of the time I would say a challenge would be issued from the arcade.

I don't think this is a bug as it's not causing a propblem for 99% of my users, but every now and then the odd user PM's me saying their score has not been added to the high score table, which is then follwed by me recieving an email from my server stating the following:

As I said, most of the time the scores are included and everything is fine, so i don't know if it's just th odd connectivity probelm or what?

Ohh and great hack, my users are well happy with it, although I do suspect the odd member of figuring out some way to cheat with the copter game as some rediculous scores like 3500+ have come in.

No, it's perfectly normal to get scores like that on the Chopper game... my personal best is 6100.

lol, I guess it just means I'm really bad at the game then, with a top score on it of 1500ish. >.<

To add to post above, the odd user it 's happening to, for me to get those emails, is saying they are not even getting the comments screen after finishing a game when it happens, they are bounced straight back to the main arcade menu. But once it happens to them once, it happens every time after. I believe there is 5 users out of 1400ish that this is happening to.
