I'm doing categories a little differently... I don't want people to have to navigate into a category before they can see games to play. Right now I'm thinking to have categories somewhere else (such as in a side menu or a drop down list), and to show a random selection of games on the front page. Once a user chooses a category, they get an ordered list - or they can choose to order all games by other criteria. (Times played, alphabetically, chronologically, etc.)

Begging for some help LOL ... Have taken a look through this thread and can`t seem to find an answer, and others having the same problem too by the sounds of it.

I installed everything as stated, however my games are not showing in the arcade. The permissions I have set up should allow me to see them.

I`ve just changed this from IBPro arcade, and recon to have removed all file edits I have changed when installing IBPro, but have done it after installing v3. I`m pretty sure this is something to do with it, just don`t know how to solve it. Any chance one of you experts can show me to the light :)

If you have had ibproarcade installed, you need to completely remove the templates that it installed using phpmyadmin (make sure you backup first), then re-install the templates for V3 arcade and your on a winner

It's new coded rather than a straight port, so we'll probably have a whole new crop of bugs. ;)

It sounds as though you may be approaching a release soon. Are you still planning on releasing Videovie before? I know it's hard to tell with 3.5 not being gold yet, I'm just curious.

A week before I was going to release Videovie for 3.0.x they started beta testing 3.5, so I decided to hold off and wait for vB 3.5 to go gold before I ported it over.

In the meantime I've been working on the 3.5 version of the Arcade, which is in a working state right now. If push came to shove I could get it released within a couple of days, but I'm not doing that before 3.5 goes gold - so I'm using this time to add some new functionality and make improvements on the last version.

Ok, there were a few things I'd like to add, if these are not added already:

1). A game-file protection system that will get rid of hotlinking, file stealing, and members going directly to the URLs to play games. Some of my troublesome users found the games by URL and just went there and played the game so they can bypass the 3 post per 24 hour hack. Then they posted the links up in the forums and everybody ended up just going to those URLs and played the games. It was disasterous trying to sort out all 300 games and giving them names like "pacman4skdrhs3f" While I know this might take a bit of work... :nervous:

I'm a novice a php and I don't really know if ^ that's possible so somebody correct me if its not :D

2). A simple hack that can limit the use of the arcade. Like the X post in Y hours hack.

3). The last challenge system was a little confusing. It's been a while since I used 3.0.x series, so I don't really remember what exact was wrong with it. It had something to do with the "back" button or something that allows the users to re-take the challenge without losing.

DO you get a blank page, error, or what?
When you go to activate it in the Admin CP, I switch it to on, but it resets to Off after I click Save. No worries, We cleaned out hacks to update to 3.0.8 and now it works. :)

1. I'm thinking about using AJAX for game navigation, in both the admin CP and the front end. Something like Google Suggest. (Although I haven't put a lot of thought into it at this stage.)

1) I'd like to see improved challenge/tiered tournament system, with support for ushop/ucash for members to enter tournaments etc. in admincp make it possible to set how many players and tier for tournament, and or possible make it possible to run up to 3 or as many consecutive tournaments as an admin wants at one time. Also user group access etc.

2) System like the avatar system, where after so many posts made on site a new game unlocks for players/members. Make it possible in the game listing to choose what order games are in as well as how many posts needed to play the game. You could use the large game icon in similar spot as avatar in similar system. thats in vbulletin now..

3) I like the idea of having commands or menus in side bar menu for arcade, maybe have something like vba cmps where you can choose which side of the arcade the menu is on, and possibly add modules to the side nav, aka sponsors, extra game addon lists, etc.

4) multi player support, aka checkers, chess, etc. Maybe memory system to pick up game you left off or something.

I have other ideas, but those would be cool to start.

Just a quick update... :)

First of all, a bit of a layout change. Because I have plans to make more use of the "news & events" section, it had the potential to get too long making the top part of the page huge.

Instead, I've shifted the news and "logged in as" areas into a right column, keeping everything else on the left. If people hate this too much I'll include a legacy template for those who want to stick with the old layout.

One other thing is the cookie-based "Viewing Mode" - nothing too fancy, but it enables you to choose to see a more streamlined version of the games list if you don't want all the extra info for each game. (As seen in the screenshots below.)

Edit: The category navigation isn't in those screenshots, I'm still working on it.

I really like the tab idea, but it would be nice to give other admins a choice of tabs and what we currently have as a hack. Personally, I think I will prefer the tabs.

As for the tabs, are we to assume that if you have 50 milion (a slight exhageration (sp?)) categories, these would layer across each other in multiple rows without expanding the browser width a mile wide?

For things like postbit awards, I don't know - I haven't done them yet. I'll be doing everything possible to avoid file edits.

It will be good when the version for 3.5 will be out. As this addition was very handy to my forums & site.

I recently upgraded my forums to 3.5, and think it is awsome. So at this stage, the Arcade is tempoarily offline for some testing of a newly released version. :)

actually no suiko butmaybe your swf file is corrupted in any way. re-upload it and may then it works. (or better first try to play the swf on your pc)

New problem. *Still working on my snake one* On the game screen when you are playing a particular game and it has the "Back to the Arcade" link and the "View High Scores" link it doesn't work. BUT I think looked at the url of each link and they seem to have a double "//" like one is....

Correct, when I upgraded from 3.0.7 to 3.0.8 I had this problem. All the vb files that were editted before had to be editted again. Only takes a bout 10-15 mins.

It may be you did not install it properly. I had over 1500 games installed, but then I trimmed it down after I reinstallled my vB.

I just made myself a Arcade Page and alot of the games hold in the highscore.
Just added the arcade & I can fix your problem. I am going to make a different arcade that is easy to delete until john make an uninstall feature for vb 3.0.x :nervous:

Try re uploading the origanal "includes/functions_showthread.php" and editing it again, you may have deleted/edit/overwritten something by accident.

I don't know what happened...

I installed both the uCash and Arcade mods, one after another.

The uCash mod worked fine, so I decided to work out the Arcade one.

When I put it in, a few things happened...

First of all, I couldn't edit any of the arcade settings from my adminCP.

Second, All the "buy" options from uCash disappeared.

Third, I got these glitches popping up everywhere on my site:

Maybe this bug has already been reported, but with 250+ pages to search through, I thought I would try this...

So the bug is this: When someone matches the high score for a game, the arcade homepage will sometimes show the wrong trophy holder. It appears the query to select the current champ is a bit flawed as it queries only for the highest score, and if it finds two or more, will sometimes select the wrong person (ie. The person who did not get the high score first.)

The bug appears to be in this code block in the arcade.php file:

In my old phpBB install, we had people who had Arcade trophies and that # of trophies was posted under their name in the left side block in each of their posts. For example, on here the block has the Name, Member, Join Date, Posts, and (theorectically) then it would say Trophies or something similar and the # of games they have top scores on. Hi. First off, I must say that this is a great hack. Thanks for the great work John.

I've been looking through the discussions and haven't been able to find a way of setting permissions for the games by rank or title instead of usergroup. This would encourage users to be more active on the board in order to gain access to more games. Does anyone have a mod for this? I would love to set this up before the board gets populated too much.

Perhaps you have deleted a member who did have the record on this game?
If so, you can restart the game. Remove it and install it again.

You will find its not in your nave bar but in the header template as you are not using the VB theme. Try looking in the header template it should be there.

I'm trying to install this on vb 3.0.5 and I'm getting errors everywhere.

I've installed the arcade onto this vb version in the past so I don't know what's going wrong.

The install went fine, but when I uploaded the modded php files nothing works.
I have parse errors example:

I am having similar problems with the hack, this appears when I try and run arcade.php and seems odd as we only restored a backup of the MYSQL of the board to a time AFTER the hack was installed and working fine, we also reviewed over the vb files and they seem to have been editted correctly.

Most annoying thing is that it used to work before and now it doesnt.

Look right down the very bottom of global.php, it's there, basically the last bit of code there.

Race, it sounds to me like you might want to go back and recheck all of your modifications carefully. Ensure that you are not in the middle of another modification in your code that might be interfering. You are having more porblems than I have seen anyone have in a very long time.

In answer to my own question ... I read the FAQ.txt which comes with the download

Question: The Arcade works perfectly with my main style, but all my other
forums styles result in blank pages, why?

Answer: The installation script only installs templates to the style that
you're using at the time of the installation. It's simple to change.


In admincp/install_arcade.php
FIND:

REPLACE THIS WITH:

OK, I found the problem in my situation.
Its in the init.php, you have to fix it there and then login into admin panel and make sure the arcade is active, even if it is just refresh again.

Well, it's "almost" what I'm looking for....I think wasn't clear in my previous post. What I am looking for is, if I have 20-30 games, but only 10 are showing, how do I navigate to the next page? So although i have more than 10 games installed, I am only able to view the first page. It should be located on the lower right of the main arcade page and would display page 1 2 3 etc.

YES!!!!!!!!!!!! I figured it out!!!!

For those of you who don't see the page navigation at the bottom of the Arcade pages it's because of the following:

I used to have the previous version of the arcade and *thought* I deleted all the files...and then I had followed the "fresh install" instructions. Well, looking around some files i decided to read what the upgrade instructions had and decided to follow those intead. After applying ALL the changes of the upgrade instructions, my Arcade finally showed the page navigation...

So I guess even though I did a fresh install, I still had a partially-old arcade and that's why I didn't see the page nav.

I hope this helps someone else in the future...man, I'm glad this is over. :)
