Anyway.. I just installed some new skins.. and they doesn't have the arcade templates, and l'm wondering how to add the aracde templates to the new skins?

I have new skins and I just tried to run install_arcade.php? to add aracade templates to all my new skins but it didn't add them. :-/ plz help!

I believe you have to change the default style of the board, then run the first part of the install again to add templates to the other styles.

Because I just installed a skin on my default skin and ran the aracde install script and it works, but it won't work if i run the aracde install script to my other skins cuz it didn't add templates to my other skins.

Just change the styleid you're currently viewing. The templates install to the admin's currently selected style set.

Dreamweaver appears to automatically edit (and screw up) this line in functions.php (1755):

Use a different text editor to make the change to functions.php, and you won't have this problem. :)

Yes, unlicensed members can download your games this way.

Because I feel better about mailing out email notifications for new batches of games there, I don't think people would appreciate it on here as games are only *optional* parts of the Arcade.

Unlicensed members can download those games, but the games aren't hacks themselves - and they don't do much without the Arcade, which can only be downloaded by licensed users.

And thirdly (and probably most obviously), it's to get people to sign up on the Arcade site - mainly because I'm going to need a lot of people to test the next release, which works best on a site where people are actually visiting. :)

I've just restored my database because of being hacked, now when I access arcade.php? it shows I dont have permission T_T, how come ? Yet the permission is till fine in ACP. what do I have to do ?
before that there's nothing wrong with Arcade. Actually when install Arcade it didn't install templates for all styles so I've only jad to run the install file with the first step to make the templates of Arcade for others styles.

I've searched this thread and skim read it but I cant find this specific problem. Too much complaining about submit buttons and the like have make it tricky!

I wondered if anyone can help.

Some users are getting high scores in various games (so it's not game specific is what I'm highlighting here) and they cant submit there score. I'm guessing (as it takes a long time to get these scores) they're somehow timing out.

Could anyone offer a solution, or point me to where it's already been posted if it has already?

This is usually caused by a slow server or internet connection. A lot of my modem users reported this before I increased the bandwidth allowance on my local server.

It's happening to broadband users (myself included) from the USA, and from the UK (the server is in the USA). There's no bandwidth issues as far as the server is concerned either, and it happens at quiet as well as busy times.

The only pattern is it seems to happen when people are getting high(er) scores, so they've been on the flash game page for longer than average.

yes. it IS to do with the new patch files. I can say that 99.9% sure!!!

I was playing all my games fine, then irealised the new patches, and uploaded...now it dont work. I tried installing an entire new board, which i could then just simply whack my skins and database onto, ... same error!

its the new files. anyone got a fix?

Whenever you upgrade vB or install a patch, you MUST compare the updated files to your ciurrent file to check if you havd added any hacks ...

These ARE mods to the includes/init.php file in Kier's newly released patch, so if you simply uploaded the new file, you will need to re-apply the Arcade edits applying to that file.

I'd like to clarify that I've updated all files, there's no problem with this hack (or parts of it) missing.

Myself and my members only get the "No Permission" errors sometimes, but it always seems to be with high scores, and/or when a game has been played for a long time.

Any ideas?

I've got a problem with penguin bash. The top score on my forum is 3234 and my gf has twice beat that score with a score of 3235 but it won't let you submit the score for it to be put into the table. It's definately not a slow connection problem as we're on broadband and it's submitting all lower scores fine. I can choose try again no problem but after achieving a score of 3235 it will not let you submit anymore scores regardless of what amount they are. But on reloading the game it works fine. It's also not a timeout issue as she got it the 2nd time after only about 30-60 secs of trying.

Any ideas as this is stressing the hell out of her as she should be champ!

I have reviewed the files, removed the hacks, and re-added them three times.

I'm sure I'm missing something, however in my case it must be hard to spot, as I have had a couple of other developers attempt to show me what I have missed and have not been able to find it either.

Is it possible to limit our searching down to a single file or two?

Hi John, people on the MINI2 Arcade at www.mini2.com/forum/arcade.php are still having problems recording scores.

It only seems to be very high scores and/or when people spend a long time in one game. I have the hack installed 100% correct as far as I can see.

It's happened to me once only, when I got a high score on the new Monkey game.

People are getting frustrated because it does it at the worst time possible, when they've got a good score!

It happens on various games, to various members, from various locations. The only pattern is it happens with very high scores or when they've been playing a long time.

The error is (as I've stated) the standard vBulletin "no permission" error.

Any chance you could offer any suggestions at all or if we could work out what's going wrong, as something is for sure!

what i want to do is take my most popular games and make THOSE require X number of posts. how can this be done, with individual games rather than the entire arcade?

After playing around with this issue, I found that high cpu/bandwidth usage on the server or a client with low bandwidth causes this. Playing the game from the server hosting it, is a bad idea. It may not be your problem but I hope this helps.

You only have to redo the php edits after an upgrade...not hard to do at all. In fact I do the edits to the new files before the upgrade then upload the new files.

This hack is flawless if installed properly unlike some of the games (hehe). If anyone is having problems, I recommend removing it and starting over.

I've installed the arcade and everthing went along seamlessly until I tried to access arcade.php.

you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.


Even after setting usergroup permissions within CP, I was unable to gain access. I've tried reading through this post for possible solutions, but the 89 pages makes that difficult. Can anyone provide a solution? It would be greatly appreciated. :)

This issue might have been covered before but I can't find it in the posts. I've set a usergroup to not be allowed to play games until they make 2 posts which promotes them to the new user group. But many people in the first usergroup are still able to play games even though they have made no posts and haven't been promoted to the new usergroup.

So true... even those who swore blind that they didn't make a mistake have gone back to find that they did.

The fact is, any problems like this (permissions, errors, etc.) are because of file modification mistakes, other installation errors, or (very rarely) other conflicting hacks. It's impossible to support the first two... people just need to take more care when installing.

There are very few problems, but obviously (OK not obviously I know that, but I can assure you...) I have checked everything to ensure that I have installed the hack perfectly. No errors in my file hacks or template files.

It just seems like a sort of "time out" that gives people the "No Permission" screen. As I said, the arcade is great, and a lot of people on my site seem to use it, but that's causing a bigger headache with this issue that the "hardcore" high score group keep running in to.

Surely if it were an error it would do it all the time anyway, not just on the occasional high score/long game, and not across games (that pretty much rules out an error in the flash files).

As I say, SOME people have encountered this on Space Invaders, Hexxagon, Monkey Lander, Pac Man and I'm pretty sure other games, but ALWAYS when they've got a high score.

Well Mini, I would double check your cookie settings or change your cookie prefix if its a timeout thing. If you have this installed on a HACKLESS BOARD and you installed it properly (Like me) Then you should have NO problems.

You can argue all you want about it. We have installed the same hack on the same version VB (RC3/RC4) There is no reason why yours shouldnt work and mine should. The code is the same and so is the installation. I have not had ONE issue with any of the things you mention. There is obviously somethign wrong with your installation of V3arcade or the Forum in General.

This is because you need to add the arcade templates to each style on your forum.
I am also getting a blank screen with one of my styles when I try to load the arcade. This is definitely due to that style not having the custom templates. Can someone tell me how to add the arcade templates to each style? There's got to be a better way than adding 26 templates by hand and copying and pasting. I don't remember the install process asking me if I wanted to add it to all styles. :ermm:

if you login as admin and change style to another one and then run the installer again, it`ll add the custom templates to that style, it seems to add the templates to the admin`s style..

The following is the response I got from IBPlanet. I think it would have to be pursued by you now. Not trying to be a pain, just protecting your work if I can help in any way.

"Myself and another member of the management (aent) have read both codes and we cannot find any resemblence or evidence that any code was adapted from v3Arcade. However, if you think you may know of any section of the ProArcade code that is infringing on your code, feel free to point it out in a reply email.

That's really too bad. Phpaddsnew is a great set of scripts and used by a lot of people.

No, because the ARCADE template isn't included in the actions which are called from the games. (And that's what causes the problems.)

That way, monthly or weekly, a website could host a tournament... (Just an idea.)

Do Not Use Dreamweaver to modify your functions.php . Dreamweaver killed the coding in it. Use Notepad or a other tool.

Ok, I'm ussually pretty good at installing hacks, and for some reason I am totally lost here...

In the instructions it says...

I've never seen any version of vBulletin with directories called admincp and includes. These are ftp files, right? I thought maybe you meant admin/index.php, etc. But the code changes it called for weren't in the file. As far as an includes directory, I have no idea where that is.

Then I thought maybe you meant template changes, so I looked in there for templates with the same name and couldn't find any.

I'm at a loss.. can someone help me?

There are a couple of new versions of the files, in particular, a new includes/init.php - released as a security fix - I dont think it's in the download zip, but keir has linked to it in the RC4 thread on vB.com. I applied the hack to the new init.php and it killed my forum. I re-uploaded the old init.php and all works well. Might be something to look into. ;)

Just edit the arcade permissions of the unregistered/guest usergroup.. lol You need to edit the permissions for these people anyways after installing this hack otherwise no one will see it... go through the normal steps of permissions before asking questions and you would have already had this done. Just letting you know.

I'm using the new init.php and following the directions exactly kills my forum.... I'm using RC4 downloaded under a week ago with the updated files in them. I just triple checked all of the instructions and it works all the way until I upload functions.php

It also killed the who's onine for my forum.

I built a new vB3 board and installed the arcade, my live board is still version 2.3. What I would like to do is upgrade the old board to vb3 and then import the database from that board to the new one. Does the v# arcade make any database changes that this would screw up?

Yea, it's a definite issue. I didn't look into the code too much cause I'm busy, but, something I didn't mention:

It DOES add the templates to your first style, but that's it. If you have three other styles it will not add them.

I had the same problem. The fix was pretty easy - read the install instructions more carefully. :) I spent hours trying to figure this one out...

Most of the phrases need to be added as GLOBAL. Some, though - like this one - need to be added as a different type. Delete the phrase from your system, and re-add it as the type of phrase they say in the install instructions and it should work.

If you want a crude way to do it...

Find:

And above this, add:

}


Where in this example, 10 is the number of required posts to be able to play in the Arcade. People with post counts lower than that will be shown a "no permission" page.

What I'm trying to say is, what if I or someone else decides they don't want the hack in the future (so restoring a backup is not an option) anymore? Yes, remove the PHP hacks, but what about the dead tables in the DB? I'm not complaining, this is a great hack. Just a request for an uninstaller. :)

It's not exactly a revolutionary concept - it comes down to whether I'd rather spend time on another Arcade add-on that everyone will enjoy, or instead work on something to save 0.1% of people from having a couple of redundant tables in their database.

I'm sorry but having read the discussion you've created over the simple issue of uninstalling, I find you extremely ungrateful with your approach to this, John has put a hell of a lot of effort into this arcade and people should be thankful if they get any support at all to be honest as John gives support entirely in his own time and off his own back, that and the fact this is meant to be a site for people who have some capability of running a website properly. Anyone who feels they have enough craft to be running a beta version of Vbulletin in the first place, should at least make the effort to learn the basics of running a website and very basic programs such as phpmyadmin, mysql and vBulletin, etc, rather than basically hounding the developer of an excellent hack over mainly very basic issues and therefore stunting the development of future addons and game releases.

I don't think most people seem to realise that they are getting something that is completely free that a lot of companies would charge for and that any support given by John is as said above, completely off his own back and in his own time.... and when most of the problems people bombard him with are very basic and have mainly been asked and answered several times if people bothered to read through the thread first.

There have been a few hundred successful installs of the arcade hack now, virtually all perfectly first time, or in certain cases after correcting the mistakes the person installing the arcade has made themselves. Virtually every potential problem people may come across has been brought up several times and every single one of these problems has ended up being the error of the installer or their hardware, not the arcade itself. It installs and runs seemlessly every time when done right.

Ok yeah, an uninstaller would be nice, but it takes so little knowledge and effort to delete any redunant tables ("drop table" - not difficult really is it), whereas it would take a lot longer for John to make an uninstaller, which to be honest is completely not needed anyway, as virtually every forum running this hack would suffer a severe decline in users if the arcade was suddenly no longer available.

forum4games - There was a steady flow of games being released, but due to one spiteful nasty person, it's kind of dried up a little at the moment. John is probably very busy at the moment anyway which would explain a slight dry patch, as he is developing addons and the likes for the arcade (besides his r/l work commitments and the likes), so i'd recommend just sitting tight and wait to see what comes next. :) There is also the fact that he has asked other people to convert games and release them for the arcade, with full instructions being in the other arcade thread. :)

I've had a lot of rude emails from people (all of them anonymous, I might add) - a lot of them *demanding" changes, new additions, and new games. That's where things start to annoy me. When people go so far as to make demands (and in one case, a threat) for work to be done, I lose all interest in what I'm doing here.

I would love to convert games, code free addons, etc. for a living - but since that isn't an option, I have to earn money another way. Please be patient, this whole thing is give, give, give. I don't get anything back, and I don't expect to - I'd be happy with just a little more consideration from some people!
