Hi. My server admin is complaining about a massive amount of

this showing up in the mysql database. At times, it is causing 100% server loads. Do you know where this comes from? and if possible anyway to cause it from not appearing so much?

And I got a nice PDF files with the sale agreement and price for a full version of Acno (with level editors etc) ... are you sitting down??? 7000 Euro :surprised:

Well, I very much doubt that they'd be willing to give away the source for any amount of money... and it's already easy enough to poach it for your own site, if you're willing to do it illegally.

It doesn't neccesarily mean you CAN'T possibly have overlooked something though. :/

I'm no spring chicken and have been around the internet and programming scene for a fairly long time, I'm not just a newbie with a low post count.

There is obviously some kind of problem with this score submission system, which for some reason you seem to think can not be anything other than installer error. Now probably like every single other person who's installed any hack, I checked and double checked every character of code and the installation went perfectly, the games all work smoothly (except Maede which still has that exploitable bug), every other feature is also working smoothly, including the mini-stats hack too. There has to be some kind of problem with the score submission system though as it is happening repeatedly and it's ruining an otherwise great hack.

Looking now, there are at least 5 different installed arcades showing this same or similar problem. Can't you just have a good look into it and see if you can find anything? I don't normally ever bleet on just for the sake of it, i've done my checks, uninstalled and reinstalled, done the updates, etc.

I'll even take a screenie the next time it happens and show you what is going on...

Oh, I too am interested in finding out more about netplay, even if it is a pay to use hack or something.

I already suggested that with John, but seems like this hack is a totally different ball game since it's involved time, winning, and score system.

How it's being scored? 2 human against each other, but says 1000 points for winner, still doesn't fair if one is too good and one is too bad.

www.clubxiangqi.com is the largest chinese chess, or xiangqi, they also have chess. The player starts with 1500 points. Then if he wins against 1800 player, he goes up 20 points, but if he wins against 1550, he goes up only 10. Would I suggest a seperate system for chess? no, it would be too complicated, but something to think about :).

Another suggestion, excluding any chess game, is having a universal scoring system. This will show the score based on/accumulated from personal best. Then show the top members overall of ALL games. This has to be balance also since the score system in every game is different, i.e simon has 1 point and Tetris has thousands points. But we can translate the score of everygame into one universal point, and base on that :). This way will encourage member to play all games and even if he/she doesn't get any trophy in each, he/she still has chance to get a trophy in overall table.

Right then, now we get to the point which I knew would come up sooner or later.

First of all, I got nothing for this hack. I did all the work,and released it to the community for no reason other than wanting to share something. Yes, I've offered to give support for this hack. But my life is not solely dedicated to providing support for people who want everything handed to them on a plate.

I'm not saying this is you, but you have to realise - 90% of the people with problems simply didn't read the instructions, although they claimed to be experienced webmasters. Another 9% of people didn't bother looking in the first post for a fix before posting their problem. After looking through the changes people had made there was nearly always a mistake in their code - regardless of their attitude as a master of vB hacking.

Now, if you've really been through everything properly and there is no fault with the code, there's a problem that I'm willing to help with. (The remaining 1%, which I guess you fall under.) But people say to me "there's a problem with the scoring system", and ask me to fix it. Do you see the problem here? Not only am I unable to replicate the problem, the only information I'm given is that "it doesn't work for some people on rare occasions".

If there's no more information that you can give me, the only thing I can think of off the top of my head is that this is affecting people with slower net connections. As a result, Flash is taking longer to communicate with the server, causing a higher ping and invalidating the score.

To see if this is the problem, open up the gamesessions table in phpMyAdmin and sort all records by the "ping" field. Check to see what your highest ping is... if you have a lot of records with values above 4500, that's likely to be your problem. To fix it:

In arcade.php, find:

// pings greater than 4500ms don't count
if ($difference > 4500) {


Replace 4500 with a number greater than your highest ping. I wouldn't recommend going above 15000.

And other than the above, I just want to point out that I am self employed. I have to work to survive, and every spare minute I get I put into the Arcade. With game conversions, I paid $100 which I can't afford for a piece of software to enable me to make swf files compatible with the Arcade. All the spare time I get (when I'm not working or giving tech support) goes into game conversions... sorry for the delay, but I'm going as fast as I can.

John your efforts and constant support for this great hack are very much appreciated. It just seems like all the members with low post counts/new members are having problems without reading or atleast searching the thread for the answer.

For hacks such as this i think there should be a min post count before you can download it, such a hack deserves lots of gratitude. Ok i know that sounds unfair to new members but all the problems i have had with this hack (all of 1) i solved by reading/searching then found it was ME that was in the wrong. Time has gone into making this hack and testing it so atleast spend some time reading/searching the thread for the answer to your problems...

The problem is that arcadeupdate.php (the Arcade cron script) doesn't take into account challenge results when updating the champion listings.

The problem has been fixed, and the zip file has been updated. If you're fixing this bug, simply download the latest zip and overwrite /includes/cron/arcadeupdate.php with Files/includes/cron/arcadeupdate.php.

First of all, thanks for the help with this, I have never for one moment said I do not 100% appreciate the work and effort you've put into this and I am fully aware that it is a completely free hack and that you get nothing in return except for the beer money being sent to you and that you also have to fit it in around work and doing other stuff. I appreciate that, I really do, i am self employed myself and understand it completely. I wasn't having a go at you, It's just very frustrating when a post count seems to be being what is used to signify how much knowledge a user obviously has.

I've spent the best part of five days running through every single edited template, the arcade.php file, the other files and the database to try and figure the problem out for myself and it is simply because I keep hitting a blank with it that i've asked for help with this one problem.

Anyway, I tried as you suggested with the ping timout, setting it at various times from 4500 right through to the maximum 15000 you suggested and getting my high scoring players to play and see if the times would submit, unfortunately the exact same problem still keeps on continuosly happening.

Here is what is being submitted to the dbase:


Score submitted game:

Score not submitted game:

That's with the ping timing set at 10000

Also if someone top's the chart upon doing so they get awarded so much game play money.

First of all, I got nothing for this hack. I did all the work,and released it to the community for no reason other than wanting to share something. Yes, I've offered to give support for this hack. But my life is not solely dedicated to providing support for people who want everything handed to them on a plate.

And here you thought writing an arcade hack was all fun and games. :p

To those complaining about no publicly available netplay, you have to realize that you can't get everything for free. These arcades are, quite honestly, already a pretty cool thing that somebody could probably charge $10-$20 for and make a decent amount of money. If you want to provide cutting edge features on your website, you ARE going to have to open your wallet sooner or later.

Just thought i'd mention while i'm here, my long serving problem has gone, I upgraded to RC3 and reinstalled the arcade, and the problem is simply not there now, it is now working perfectly, so now I eat humble pie and admit I must of been repeatedly doing something wrong each time I installed, or I obviously had an error in my actual forum code somewhere which I'd not noticed, I don't suppose i'll ever find out for sure what caused it though.

Anyway now it's working i'll be looking out for .fla files for good games, and will either have a go myself to make them compatible or will pass them on (my flash knowledge is minimal so that side of things is all new to me)

Question: I deleted some of the high scores from users with no posts in my Arcade. But what happens is that it says that it is deleting the score itself (and of course the user who got it). But it only deletes the users name. The second place person becomes champion and shows the new score to beat.

BUT.... when I am in the game, it still tells me that I have to beat the original high score (the person with no posts) still. So, there's a bug. :D

Try reinstalling arcade from scratch, it seems the tables didnt get modified correctly as 'arcadepermissions' isn't a field in the table

Wow, I just read this whole thing. My plan is to install it soon and then come back here immediately and complain about something ;) j/k

Now, to the reason I'm posting:
Someone made a suggestion about "pay to play"; but they were thinking arcade style .50 per play, etc. While that would probably rack up the cash, it really wouldn't give too many reason to play these old school games when they're available for free elsewhere, despite them possibly being loyal. My suggestion: they might be willing to pay a subscription fee much easier. Since John said he'll be incorporating usergroup permissions into the games, you can use that along with vb3's integrated subscription system to give users access to games for certain periods of time. Makes it simple for them (probably cheaper too), but you'll most likely get a better response as well. Just my 2c.

Can someone start a separate thread and just write descriptions for these games for people who aren't familiar with them?

I saw both John and futureal mention something about BBS games (futureal said he would try to incorporate them in a java-based way), but you both seem to be familiar with them - can either of you PM me a site or two that might have these? I'm a huge fan of some of those back in the day and am looking for a few that I've lost along the way.

One other thing - do these games all come with playing instructions?

Right: I had a query about my addon for Erwin's Flash Player working for this hack and the short answer is Yes it will work.

The longer answer is that it is not currently integrated in any way into your database of games - so this will not (currently) populate from your list of activated games (as I understand this hack to have this functionality), ut it will populate automatically a list of games that are in your forumroot/games folder.

It could easily be updated to integrate into this hack: if it's wanted or needed, please post in my Addon thread and I'll get onto it ... what I would probably do is add a AdminCP Settings page, to allow you to specify whether you are using Erwin's hack or v3 Arcade (which would then determine which auto-populate function to use), and to specify the full path to you games directory in there ...

Interested parties come and spam on my addon thread :p

I searched the thread, but could not find a post on this problem. After I deleted a user who had high scores on my forum, it showed him as a champ but with no username. Also, it lists the user in the top ten with no username, just a score. I even removed invalid scores in the admincp and waitied for the cron job to fix it. It's been like that for a couple days.

Anway, as mentioned before, the easiest way to fix the penguin problem is to let whoever score latest + highest get the trophy, this will make people keep playing eventhough they know it isn't possible to get higher score.

There's what appears to be a bug in the system with regards to challenges and the champion. If a user wins the top score of the game through a challenge, the medal does not appear in his posting (in the forum, under his name). It's however reflected correctly on in the Arcade high score for that game.

The title appears under the name of the user dm318, who got second place in Maeda Path playing the normal game (instead of the challenge).

Great little hack. :) Not sure if i'll need it or not yet though as there's not a single user on my forum with more than one high score to their names at the moment. I've saved the hack to my computer for when we have hundreds of games though. :)

Uninstalling the Arcade can be a oddle, depending if you have other hacks installed or not or whether you have made modifications to the templates, but especially it depends whether you made thos all important backups of files.

If it's your only mod and hack, you simply delete all the games, images and php scripts that came with the arcade. Revert all the modified templates back to the originals, and over write the original .php forum files you edited with the backups you made before starting editing (you did do backups right?) then go to the database, delete the 4 games tables, then delete the other 3-4 bits in the database that need deleting (I can't remember exactly which bits they are off the top of my head - I'm sure John could tell you)

If you have already got other mods, hacks in place or didn't do backups, you'll have to go through each template and .php file and manually reverse every single bit of text/code you replaced or added. As well as still removing things such as the games, images, added database bits and arcade scripts. (Seriously easier if you had made backups of the .php files and templates, just before adding the arcade, for such purposes) then you can simply overwrite all the .php files back to that stage, but still have all your other hacks in place. :)

LOL , Joust has a major bug in it , if you fly to the top left corner and keep hitting the flap button , your player just stays there flapping his wings hidden after u let go.

Never ending game, also if a person right clicks and selects play again it advance you to the next level autimatically and they can keep doing this to advance as far as they want to.

Check to see if it's in the database.

doesnt let me submit score. it was working at 1 point. i went through the instructions literally 20 times and i've done everything correctly.

I then went in the db and attempted to remove the tables that were created from the installation script and ran the script again. Then i got a DB error because i guess i didnt removed all the DB changes that were made. All i want to do i totally uninstall it and then reinstall it.

thanks for your comments, but if you've read my other posts i had this working. I installed this the first day he released it and this started happening last week. I did make the backup, but do not wish to lose a weeks worth of posts etc.

Hey. One of my moderators wrote me that he's having bugs with mozilla:


there is a compatibility problem with Mozilla Firebird v0.7 (and probably older versions too), and with Mozilla browser 1.5 (again, probably with all Mozilla releases) in the Arcade. You cannot submit any scores after playing a game, it give an error message...

"Method Not Implemented
to /index.html not supported.

Invalid method in request"



Is there a fix for that ? Are you aware of it ?

B.T.W: With more & more games being added, is there a plan that each game will take less space at the arcade.php page ? Maybe something like half row instead of full one ?

You may want to ask your moderator if he is using nightly builds or the standard download,
I have noticed that the standard download of Firebird has issues with certain things , aslo make sure he has all the nessary pluggins.

Only saying this because I use Firebird 7 myself at work and at home, which I have no issues with the arcade what so ever.

John, or whomever coded Mars Rover. There is a glitch on the submit button and a glitch people are talking about which lets a person double their score at will.

The glitch in the submit button is that you NEED to click the Letters of SUBMIT to submit the score. The button surrounding it does not work.

Also what are some way to troubleshoot if even Internet Explorer isnt allowing submitting of high scores for some people? Pac Man for example for some IE users says Submitting Data and it never sends.

There is also glitches on MarsRover that the balls come from the floor or sometimes appear JUST before hitting you. Also, the game features and ending and a MAX score you can get. At the end boss, all you gotta do is NOT kill him and keep shooting the balls. You could go on forever.

Thanks, You are right.. he just didn't have the latest flash plugin in it.

I'd like to make double columns of games and just get rid of the description or stick it under the Game Row. Too much wasted space.

I agree about the wasted space. A two column mode would be needed as well. As an option. Anybody help with the function file error, I edited it with EditPlus 2.11, it does not breaks the code in no way ... RC3

Hmm...my 'Total Plays' and 'Total Time Spent Playing' just randomly stopped being displayed...the text is still there that says "total plays" but there just aren't any numbers there anymore...

I ended up deleting one of the users that held a few of the high scores...

Is there any easy way to delete all of the scores pertaining to that user only?

Reinstall ministats. Chances are you upgraded to RC3... and that will kill that minihack.
