Hello, I have a "secret" forum that I dont want to block my members from accessing, yet I do not want it to show up on the vbLite page or elsewhere... is that possible?

It will be based on the new VB3 forums, for our paying customers. Also a new myriad of options will be added, like Reviews, syndicated news, links, etc.
Basically it will be a totally new version.

You are correct, I forgot to change the instructions file.
Make sure you delete all your temp files before you re-download the .zip file. Sorry about that.

You will notice there is no upgrade file because all changes are done onto vbHL index.php file only.

no. You aren't even indirectly paying. The money is not leaving your pocket and going to someone else who is in turn giving the money to TECK. This costs you nothing and is a small condition of usage.

I've looked at other portal code, even written my own- this is a superior product and bargain to boot.

That is probably the biggest reason I won't install this portal on the board I have in the works now. I think I have said it before, but I'll say it again; sometimes it helps to take a few deep breaths before posting.

The fact is that this board is full of teens that have pumped their brains with power trips and have no idea what they are doing IRL.
I'm 33 years old and every time I see someone acting bossy (or like knowing anything in this world), when he barely had sex for the first time (if he had), it makes me feel sorry for them, so that's why I'm a little harsh with those type of people... you can spot them from 100 miles. I never saw Erwin, Xenon, smachol, etc making a bad remark out of line...

You can get support here, from other users. :)
But you will not be able to get hacks and other useful mods since you don't have it online your vbHL site.
That's why I left the file here so people can test it and see if they like it.

If they enjoy the quality of the code (especially 3.6 which is written in vbulletin 3 code style) they will go online with the site and request access to the restricted area.

Grow up. Its a free script that Teck worked hard on. You are not paying a freaking dime for his hard work. Go ahead and use it without the copyright notice. Many do. The ones that care about hackers hard work, and want to promote better scripts will always show their appreciation by doing this small thing, showing the copyright.

I tried vbhome but didn't have what I was looking for, all it basically does is pull threads from a forum and puts them on the frontpage with a login box that tells you to login and how many new threads/posts..

I was expecting maybe a download section, archive news, things of that nature. it lacks some features, probably good for a small personal site .. good job nonetheless.

This seems like a great hack, but I really don't need all the features it offers. Im really only interested in the latest threads being displayed on my main index page (not forum index).

Is there any way I can extract and only use that code? Of course I would still leave the copyright for vbhome (lite) at the bottom. How would I go about doing this? I already have a design that I like for my main site page, but liked a lot of the coding you used for the latest threads. Is this possible and how?

Aha, you need to follow at letter all install instructions. That's why you get blank pages, due to little missed steps.
Take your time to read every single line of the readmefirst.htm file and you will be ok, I'm positive on this. :)
The most common mistake I saw with people is that they mix BELOW ADD with REPLACE WITH.. or they skip reading some lines because they think, ahh is not important... and stuff like that.

Unfortunatelly, you didn't do everything. Your graphs don't show and you didn't listen to LeeCHeSSS to run the vbhlindex.php file, not the vbhlinstall.php one.

I feel somewhat dumb, when I ran that file last night, it looked like the install file and I just wasn't thinking so I didn't run it. In the instructions is says note: to run it if you uninstalled-installed and I just figured that it was a fresh install so I didn't.

But I did sign up for your forum last night, username Joor (can I get the special super duper access please?). If I am not the only one with this problem, I suggest some idiot proof text in that note that say if no text is being displayed, run the index file.

As far as the graphics and stuff, I posted that I could do that later, that is not essential to pulling the news files :) Actually I did do that, but I changed it when the news wasn't working in case I uninstalled it again. Looks good now, and I am going to see if I can tweak this puppy out. Thanks.

I really need access to those restricted areas to get at some of the support information. I can't get VBHL to display after upgrading from 2.2.8 to 2.2.9 and I can't uninstall VBHL because the uninstall scripts are located within a restricted area!

If you don't mind me saying I dont' understand the logic behind placing the uninstall scripts behind locked doors. If a user wants to uninstall they should be able to without hassle. Why should they need restricted access since they are going to uninstall and lose that access anyway?

Anyhow I really need that restricted access and this is the 3rd or 4th time i've requested it, after ammending my profile and everything else.

The uninstall script is included with your vbHL script. Your page displays as blank, so you cannot obtain access.
Feel free to ask your questions here.

To update your page, simply run the uninstall-install procedure.

I, personally give support here only when I have time. The script is designed to work without any problems if you follow at letter the instructions in the readme file.

About your graphics, simply make them or contact a graphic designer to make one for you, is really easy.

No I'm not upset about him not telling me how to make a button (that was an example).

And I don't appreciate the FREE game. I would, will and have gladly paid for a product or a service that would help me or improve my board. (when I started using VB I had to pay someone to install my board, since that time I have learned how to do that myself)

I don't know how to do alot of this stuff, for example I am not sure of where to locate the the darn button in all the template script. There appears to be an answer on the support forum but I can't access it because I won't use the product until I can fix this problem so it appears we are at an impass. It seems to me He wants me to screw up my board so he can boast his program is being used, then I can look at his board to figure out how to install a button he should have written into the code anyway. Dude's got power issues.

As far as support goes he witholds support for his board, by limiting access. I am (probably was after all this) a legitimate possible user and the easiest way for me to get what I need, and figure out what I need is to see what the other uses are doing. But too bad for me I can't.

As for all the CAPS I can read, have read and JUST LIKE YOU I FEEL I HAVE A LEGITIMATE CONCERN. Big deal, you proably feel like you are talking to a wall -- which is exactly the way it feels talking to you.

The buttons are all located in home_header template, under Home Page Templates.

Has anyone used both it and Virtuanews (http://www.virtuanews.co.uk)? I was trying to see if anyone could offer a comparison for me. I'm currently using VN+IBF (but I'm a licensed vB holder as well). It's a bit tedious having so many things not tied into the main forums, so I'm thinking of this product instead.

Are there any hacks/mods that add any of the 'module' functionality? One I use a lot now is some 'custom pages' that basically just displays some html page that is in a template inside the portal page, and not loaded separetely. Other than that, the trouble ticket system was nice.

Unfortunately no. There will be no upgrade, since the retail version is totally different from the free one.
For the free version, all editing is done only in one file, you don't touch vBulletin, except when you install it... v3.7 requires only 1 small edit to VB.

3.7 released for regular users. Now the script uses only 10 queries and the install is a breeze. :D
Enjoy and upgrade asap.

Version 3.7 is a great improvement related to the installation and queries usage. The script uses it's own global file, that doesn't interact that much with vBulletin so there is no need to worry about templates not showing properly, permissions errors, incorrect logins, etc. It installs like a breeze.
Also several new options we're added as standard features, that can be enabled (disabled) as usual, through admin CP options.

For the full list of options, see the readmefirst file (to many to list here and to tired).
Heh, don't panic if you have to do only 3 minor changes (actually, if you upgrade, is only one...) to your vBulletin files...
I worked hard for you guys to make it as easy as possible to install it.

Since 3.7 changed completely related to the variables usage, you will need to uninstall the old version and re-install the new one. To do this, follow those steps:
1. Undo all changes, except STEP 1 and 3, from the old v3.6 instructions page
2. Revert all your templates to default!! Very important!!
3. Uninstall the old script using the NEW install file.
4. Delete all old files from your folders.
5. Open the NEW readmefirst file and be amazed how easy is to do everything, as well how many great options you get in this release.

Because the template variables are changed, there is no more {imagesfolder} for example.

Check the steps in the newthread.php file. You either made a mistake there, or you had previous threads started in the news forum. Is normal that they don't show.
If you read the readme file, you get all your answers there.

I'll explain it more as I already noticed after installing it in my actual active forum.

The problem occures when you first install it, the articles abbreviations will not show up, just the article titles.

You can notice that articles that have been added before installation will not show up, but their titles will show.
BUT
articles which are added after installation will be shown immediatly.

SO
I guss the problem is with updating the field 'articleid' which is blank for articles added before the installation.. am I right or wrong?!! :) cause you added the updating SQL statement in the newthread.php file :)

No problem. :) Is really easy. If you have old articles already posted in the forum, they are not updated into the vbHL database. If that's the case, simply read in the readme file how to use the vbhlindex.php file (articles indexer).

Another scenario is that you did not hacked properly the newthread.php file. Double check carefully that step. once you complete it and discovered the little code you missed, complete the step properly and run the article indexer, it will update all your missing text.

Is that simple. Have fun and let us all know how you managed to get it working nice. :)

Finally,
my VbHome is working fine

Everything was OK, except I didn't run the indexer :)

anyway, I modified something that allowed my vbhome now to act as a real NEWS PORTAL with photoes :) hahahah finally.. :)

Ok I have a problem and I have tried to seach, but when a user gets a new PM and they have their settings to get a popup notice it does not go to the correct location of private.php

vbhomelite dir www.aximforums.com/
forum dir www.aximforums.com/forum/

If they go to the vbhomelite and get a new pm it does not go to /forum/ to view the PM but thinks its in / and gives an error about not finding the file, since its not there.

I did find one thread that said to replace two things in the head_newpm template, but that only causes an error with IE.
