How dare somebody release a hack and not support it! ;-)

it's free, and it does work. figure it out, and stop being an asswipe. teck worked hard on this, and provided 240 pages of free support right here, and yer gunna come in here, leech his free hack, and insult him. go away now, go figure it out, or read through this thread. if it's not in here, yer prolly doing something stupid. wtf kind of noob has a directory structure with a . in the filename? (/home/bozzyswo/public_html/unrulypolitics.com/global.php)

bozzy
12-08-2003, 02:11 PM
Nope, it wasn't something stupid. It was because vbHome is not compatible with vbArchive, once I removed vbArchive, it worked...but it was stupid looking and ugly, so I uninstalled it.

bozzy
12-08-2003, 02:13 PM
wtf, there is nothing wrong with having a '.' in the filename, using the domain as the name keeps things ORGANIZED, [Edited due to abusive language - assassingod]

Also bozzy,

You are currently showing up as unlicensed. *oh and I read thru this hack and no where did it say that vbArchive caused this error. I saw it in a different thread here, with only 3 replies. But sure enough, that was the problem. But its moot, because vbhome is stupid and ugly.

Please can you keep the insults down ;)

The author does supply support for this hack, but not everyone can be online every minute of the day ;)

If you have an error which you cannot find a fix for and no-longer wish to wait, simply un-install it.

I also dont see how vBhome can be classed as ugly as it runs off the style you are using.

Once again i ask you nicely to keep the insults down ;)

Cheers!

bozzy
12-08-2003, 05:35 PM
FYI, I wasn't being insulting, until cablemirc called me an 'asswipe'. Take it up with him. He also didn't notice that I had a ";-)" after I said "How dare somebody release a hack and not support it!" as I was just being facetious. I'm sorry cablemirc didn't get the humor, but calling me an 'asswipe' was uncalled for.

MindTrix
12-08-2003, 05:43 PM
I agree with your point, yet none the less, i didnt say the request too tone the language down was aimed at just you ;)

And also, i did notice the wink at the end of your line, i was mearly explaining too you the point of the author not always going to be here.

But you have to admit yourself, the comments on vBhome lite beeing 'stupid and ugly' was un-called for as im sure you can imagine the work and effort put into a release such as this.

Finally (bout time lol) im not trying to start an argument, more or less trying to stop one ;) So, sorry you didnt like the hack or could not get it work for you but i guess that is the gamble you take with free additions :p

i want to think that removal is the opposite of installation, but is that correct to think this for this hack?

it's not being used as often as i thought it would be, so i figure it's best to go ahead and remove it. does the install page have an uninstall?

In your admin cp, click on vBulletin options, then scroll down to the bottom where the portals settings are.

Add some forum id's etc that you wish to display and save changes. See if that helps you

Ok. It's been a long couple of days with too much beer and too little sleep so here is a stupid question:

I upgraded my vbulletin to the new 3.0 gamma release. I want to install vbhome. So, I downloaded 4.2 lite from the link on the first page of this huge thread. The instructions are all wrong for gamma. Is there a new file ? New instructions ? Should I have another beer and come back later ?

Please help.

Only have another beer if it is Stella.

As for the portal, You will not find any hacks here that will work for any vB3.

vB3 hacks are not allowed here until the release of RC1.

For vB3 hacks (yes there is a portal there) go too www.vbulletin.nl (http://www.vbulletin.nl)

I'm coming from a vbPortal uninstallation and later vbHome Lite installation, and I must say THANKS TECK! ;) Server breathes again! ;)

however:

i have to make you happy right? :)
first you need to change also the poster... i think since you want to show the last post time, right?
anyway, do this... in vbHL index.php find:
$thread[time] = vbdate($timeformat, $thread[dateline]);
$thread[date] = vbdate($dateformat, $thread[dateline]);
replace it with:
$thread[time] = vbdate($timeformat, $thread[lastpost]);
$thread[date] = vbdate($dateformat, $thread[lastpost]);
then, in your home_threadbits template, change:
<a href="$bburl/member.php?s=$session[sessionhash]&action=getinfo&userid=$thread[postuserid]">$thread[postusername]</a>
to:
<a href="$bburl/member.php?s=$session[sessionhash]&action=getinfo&find=lastposter&forumid=$thread[forumid]">$thread[lastposter]</a>

I want to display the LAST POSTER on the threadbits with the modifications above, which first part seems already to be applied on the v4.2, but the second part does not work for me, i.e. shows the thread STARTER, not the LAST POSTER.

TECK? Any1?

Thanks!

hello folks - I'm new at this and I'm having problems getting the vbHome to work. I've followed the instructions by TECK, but obviously messed something up. I get the following SQL error:

It's funny because CPublisher is nothing more than vaporware. Teck has been promising it forever, yet does not even having a working website up.

Your better off waiting on VBulletins CMS solution for VB3 than you are waiting on CPublisher.

It was said a long while back that TECK was working on a new version - one for vBulletin 3.0 thus his reason for pulling down his site and any further improvement of this peice of software. Again that happened sometime ago, it's been at least a couple months since I've seen or heard anything about this new software he's been working on.

I had the same problem but I fixed it (also If I pressed new thread nothing would come up).
First Check you downloaded the last version of the hack (ver.4.2 I think)

Secong Check the instructions to the letter and use a good text editor to remove any parsing problems or weird caracters on the changes to the .php. files bbedit is a good one (select the part of the hack and choose ZAP GREMLINS.
Also I have noticed 2 things:
First: when performing the changes to the replacements put the path correctly or else you wont get images/or in some cases anything
Last put on the home page options (on the Admin panel) 2 or 3 forums that have had recent activity and save then run the install script again (but dont reinstall it just press the upper part on REINDEX threads (or something to that efect)

Voila it will work like charm

On the Global.php file wich has to be on the root of your site (not on the folder of the Forum or Vbulletin software)

check on the part that you have to change that the path is don ecorrectly lik ethis:

(my example) $adminpath = 'foro/admin';

so after $adminpath = PUT 'your name of the forum folder (what ever that is the vbulletin folder------/admin';

sometimes that is all the problem

armani1072
02-16-2004, 01:03 AM
yep thats what i have in there and still nothing. :(

i think i am gonna have to give it rest for a while i have been working on this for about 18-19 hours now, and i am not getting anywhere. the only thing i can think of is maybe my path is incorrect, i may not fully understand what should go in there.

at the top of my ws_ftp box when i am in the admin folder it says /precisio/precisionmuscle.org/forum/admin is that the full path, my brain is cooked.

klaattu
02-16-2004, 01:11 AM
in my humble just put $adminpath = 'forum/admin';
in the globals.php file

a...and also check the syntax on the templatephp should end up lik ethis:

$only['forumdisplay'] = 'Forum Display';
$only['forumhome'] = 'Forum Home Page';
$only['getinfo'] = 'User Info Display';
$only['home'] = 'Home Page';
$only['memberlist'] = 'Member List';

and on newthread should end like this:

$postid=$DB_site->insert_id();
if (in_array($foruminfo['forumid'], explode(',', $articleforum))) {
$DB_site->query("UPDATE thread SET articleid=$postid WHERE threadid=$threadid");
}

(paste exactly fron first carachter to last do not copy paste any spaces before $ or after}

Step 4 follow to th eletter since your forum resides on a folder called forum

so just put forum/images (exactly like th einstructions)

hope youll be up and running in no time... By the way my BvBulletin is 2.3.0. so just check my code if it sno diferent from yours but I think is the same

Hello,

I was able to get this hack successfully installed and running at http://www.redszone.com/index.php . Now, I'm sure the answer to the question I'm about to ask can be found somewhere in this thread, but I don't have the time or the patience to read 90 pages worth of replies. My question is this: now that I have vbHome Lite working, how do I customize the index.php file such that the background is not the default VB blue color (my forum logo doesn't look right on that) and that the 'home' button can be removed (take a look at the URL I posted above and you'll see what I mean)? Additionally, I would like to move everything into tables (similar to the home page of vbulletin.org) so that all the information is not displayed down the left hand column, but those first two items will be enough for now. Thank you very much.

Gotta silly one going on...

OK downloaded the zip file and expanded and Actually read the readmefirst.htm file:

(note: vbulletin 3.0 RC4 here)

ok, on the "/admin/forum" folder... I thought that my "/includes" was the right folder, since that's where my config.php (you know... config.php.new was edited and saved as config.php).

If this is the case, then I get reasonably far by changing global.php to 'vbulletin/includes' for the admin folder.

But then it gets screwy b/c I need to add $dbservertype = 'mysql'; into the config.php folder, else global.php tries to open db_.php instead of db_mysql.php.

Well, it opens alright, but suddenly my database name, server, login, password is forgotten (it's all in my config.php, but db_mysql.php doesn't see those).

Warning: Missing argument 1 for connect() in /mnt/web_g/d06/s37/b01cc19b/www/vbulletin/includes/db_mysql.php on line 46

Any help would be great!

a) is my assumption correct on forum/admin = vbulletin/includes based on config.php being there and db_mysql.php being there?
b) did I do right by adding $dbservertype to config.php
c) in home lite, instructions reference newthread.php and template.php... don't see either of these in my /vbulletin/includes folder..

Gracias!

Well, I was dumb yesterday but think I figured a few things out...

1. Using RC4 for VBulletin 3.0 requires a different set of directions.
2. Building on #1: you won't find the lines in template.php or newthread.php to be updated
3. And... if global.php goes in root and 2 levels down (1 for forums, 2 for admin) then vbhlinstall.php can't say include ./global.php because global.php is not in the forums folder...it's one higher than that in the root folder.

So...it VBHome(lite) 4.2 certified for Vbulletin 3.0 RC4 ?

Hi,

if you right click on the red x and you click on properties what is the link for the non working images ?

And for the news: It is very easy if you enable them in the admin panel you just have to edit the template and set it where you want. The same is for the whole index.php. Just edit the template. So it's pure HTML you have to handle here.

Hello,

I just upgraded my board from 2.3.2 to version 3.0 gold. On the old version of vB, I had the vBHome (lite) portal installed and it worked fine. As those of you who have it installed know, the installation involves an automated install file that executes several queries and modifies your database. As a result, after my 3.0 upgrade, there is the old vBHome options page under my new vBulletin options tab in the admin control panel because it's still coded in my database. Since I can't run vBHome's uninstall program because I have upgraded, how can I manually remove it from my database so that this menu (and any other issues) do not pop up? Thanks.

I have done a search on this parse error:

Parse error: parse error in /home/glassmav/public_html/forum/newthread.php on line 341

I have looked at every one of the posts and most say "ok, I fixed it" but no one mentions how they fixed it.

I had to uninstall the newthread.php and replace it with the old one which of course makes the front page a little strange.

Here is line 341:
$postid=$DB_site->insert_id();
if (in_array($foruminfo['forumid'], explode(',', $articleforum))) {
$DB_site->query("UPDATE thread SET articleid=$postid WHERE threadid=$threadid");
}
if($qry!="") {
$DB_site->query("UPDATE attachment SET postid='$postid' WHERE $qry");
}

I have read the readme instructions and double checked the code which I copied and pasted.

Would someone please let me know the fix for this? Thanks

Ok, I found the hard coding in global.php (well actually my friend did) and we tried messing around with that... to no avail.

I also realized it was asking for the template set id # (not the style set id #) in the admin cp, but even when we input the correct one in there we had no luck.

We tried creating an exact copy of the other style set and using that info on both the global.php settings and the settings in the admin cp with no luck.

Deleted that style and now we're back to square one. We don't know where it's pulling this old template set from, and we can't get it to use the correct one.

http://www.fishinjunkies.com/me/imagess.gif

So why isn't it working??

It's like it's ignoring the rest of the replacements set... why?

Ok, well we're slowly getting there by manually editing the forum home templates, but it should really just use the replacement set like the board does, it would be SO much easier.

Oh and before you ask,

My style set id is #1
My replacement set id is #7
My template set id is #7

I've tried alll of those numbers in the template set ID option, and none of them work.

You might not be able to help me, but I thought I'd ask anyway. I used to have vBindex, but I wanted to switch over to vb home. So I'm pretty sure I deleted all the files and uninstalled it. Then I installed vbhl, and I think rather than making a whole new template set, it just copied over the vbindex ones. So what I'm assuming are vb home templates, are listed under vbindex. Then, when I edit the templates nothing heppens. The templates are edited, but it's not changing the front page. I don't know if this has anything to do with the vbindex or not bu thopefully someone can help me. :-/

Anyway ignore that, I think i fgired out the problem. I thought my default template set was 1, which it wasnt so thats why it wasnt working. However, I had my default colors. But then I put in number 7, and then i noticed the template changes i made, but now the colors and style isn't working. I had multiple styles disabled because I wanted to only have my default style, which happens to be number 1. So how do I set it to template 7, but style 1? And, does this option only work if the style and template id numbers are the same?

This, BTW, is the same problem Warlard has I think.

I haven't read all of this thread...is this hack still available for installation? I tried going to their website and didn't find any thing.

I also need to know if it is compatible with the latest version of Vbulletin.

Thanks!

Hi, I just upgraded to vb3 (Finally), prior to this I was using vbhome lite, but cause I've gone to vb3, I've had to use vba. What I did was
- made a dev site
- made a skin
- got all the files in order
- exported the skin
- when that was finished I turned off my site, upgraded it, deleted all the files
- copied over the new files from dev to www
- imported the skin!

YAY! Now, everything is going fine, but in my admincp there's still the vbhome lite options down the bottom of vbul options, I was wondering how I remove all remanence of vbhome lite as I like to keep a tidy page :) Is there an uninstall/remove all trace script? I probably should have done it before I upgraded :p Just didn't thing anything from it would carry over! My bad!

Please pay attention to what hack you are installing. This is a hack for vB2, i doubt that you are running an old version.

ok thanks I wasn't aware of that.

I'm still having the same problems then, my cat won't come down from the tree and the neighbors are screaming.

And I can't figure out how to include vb features (like the latest threads) on a non vb page.
