hmm till now i still have problems in the poll section in the homepage... i already set which section whereby users can poll... but i did a test in these section and post a poll, it does comes out on the homepage.

Does the poll works this way?

1. Select which section of the forum for users to post poll, in admin panel

2. Once users post a thread with a poll in that selected section, poll appears on the homepage?

Two questions,

1. Does the poll feature on vbhome (http://www.avsforum.com/)built into vbhome light? If so, does it take the latest poll and feature it or can the administrator choose what poll to feature?

2. I don't want any copyright and link at the bottom of my page, what do I have to pay to get rid of that?

Alien
09-03-2003, 01:46 AM
1. Yes that is built-in. It takes the latest poll in a specific forum (or you can choose to allow any forum) and you can select which userid's who post polls can have them displayed on the front page.

2. Same as vbulletin copyright removal.. Approximately $600...

Hi Teck, to let everyone(members and guests) to poll in the homepage, i set the userid as 0 rite? if so... how come it didn't appear on the homepage... It only appear when i select a specific userid.

by the way... something funny happen... I already change my default template to another template(i have 2 template) but everytime i login from the homepage, its still using the old default template instead of the new one, however, if i login via the forum itself, it will use the new template. Why is this so?

Well, the gods know I am not really qualified to help anyone here, but I'll try.

Poison Fly - I don't really know what you are asking. I made a post in my 'site news' forum and it shows up, with the icon, subject and body of the post on the index.php in my main/root directory. All I did was set options to 'yes' and save them in vbulletin options.

Mirri - Go to vbulletin Options, front page and make a change, then save. Verify your articles forum ID matches the one you have set in vbulletin options and then run the vbhlinstall.php and reindex your articles.

dvd4arab - I suspect if you want a style like vbportal or vbhome, you'll have to make changes to templates or php files.

GXON - go to vbulletin options and front page, make a change and then save your changes. That fixed the problem for me.

Future - It is forum/admin -- that is apparently reversed. upload the index.php, global.php and backend.php into your main/root directory, not under the forum directory. You can actually install those 3 files under a subdirectory though, but just not in a directory where you already have an index.php or it won't work right.

Well, don't hold me on it, I tried. Hopefully it helped.

THANKS FOR YOUR POST REGARDING GXON'S PROBLEM FOR: THE DATABASE ERROR.

Hi TECK, excellent, excellent, hack. We're incorporating this hack into our board, and everything is running smoothly. I did have a quesstion in regards to modifying the home page:

We currently have vBhome pulling news from a "new & announcements" forum (#27). Everything is fine, and the articles show up fine.

However, is it possible to have vBhome Lite display the full articles from our news forum (as it is currently), but then have some way of pulling ONLY the thread titles from a *different* fourm area on my site? (See, we want to have something like, "Latest DVD Reviews..." and then show the last 10 or so DVD reviews on our site, pulling from our DVD Reviews forum, #2.)

BUT, we don't want the full review posted on the main page. (We DO want the full post of the news/info to be posted on the main page.) so we can't just turn off the article display.

It would be like:

Article display: ONLY forum #27
Recent articles: ONLY forum #27
Recent reviews: only forum #2

Is this possible?
If so, any info would be greatly appreciated, thanks!!

Got it to work. Really, amazing script. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Kane Da Don : Heres something to look at :)
Tips for People
1. Save the OPTIONS in your admin CP before testing the script
2. lol make sure you load index.php into your root and not your forum dir.
3. Set the 'Articles time cut' to a bigger date. IF your article area is blank its probably because there's no new articles to post
4. If the articles show up (titles) but not the message ... try running the indexer from the installer file.

Yes lots of random stupidity on my part but I got it working and it was overall rather easy. I just had to search through 100 posts to find out what I was doing wrong. So hope these tip helps.

I see that this shows up in the HOME template! Add my code right after <td class="txttop"> and wa-la . I have something above the articles now.

Again, searching is fun. I know i have a txtop class but where the hell is that set? Searching for it find a template with some css called 'home_headinclude'

You'll have to set that for each new template now i guess. I would assume since many vbhome pages look alot different then the rest of their forum/gallery/whatever eles they link to...they decided it was best to have its own head tag. This way anything you do/include isn't being loaded on the rest of the site anywhere. Your free to play and customize.

okay. i've installed the script on my test site.

i can't get any articles to post. maybe i'm doing somthing stupid, but please help me.
here's the board, http://cptemp.hostspace.us/index.php

i'll post in the Web Site News section (forum 32)
I am UserID 1

User ID 1 is allowed to post new articles. forum 32 is the forum that new articles are supposed to be pulled from. there are 6 posts i made in that forum, and none of them show up as articles.

however, it shows as a new "forum discussion", but not as an article. no headers for articles, no nothing. i read as much of the thread as i could reasonably be expected to, and after 2 hours, i found nothing.

i tried running the indexer.. no avail.

Roody, check the newthread.php file to make sure is coded properly. That's where is your error... and make sure you use a good php editor not some crazy software like dreamweaver, etc.

I could find no issues Teck. I know you and I spoke about this over at teckwizards, and you told me it was a small addition. Any ideas on how I can fix this and what you told me before?

Edit the CSS settings, some of them are set to default colors because VB does not have those values linked to variables.
That explains the actual standard colors from VB and not your curent skin.

from what i understand, there will be no version for vb 3.x
all the features of vbhome (lite) will become part of cpublisher (lite), the free version of his upcoming stand alone product.

teck... i really like vbhome (lite). i'd love support for editing the page layout, and would be interested in the full version. if i bought it so late in the game, are you going to offer a decent discount for current vbhome customers? is there still a support forum somewhere for vbHome? where do i buy a full version with support?

It will be available at cpublisher.com, when ready. Discounts are planned only for HiveMail users, so far.
We need to contact Jelsoft also and ask them if they would like to associate with our team.

- I have added a few menu/nav buttons in the CP header code of the forum, how do i mirror these for the vBHome index page ?

- How do i configure the colours etc for the vBHome index page/header and footer areas ? I have read TECK say its in the cp.css file but i cant change the text colour ...

- If i have a picture in an article post, is there a way to have the image aligned left, and have the text continue to the right of it....or do we have to have an image, and then lots of vacant horizontal space and then the text ?

Thats about it for now :) Cant wait for cpublisher, but guess ill have to :p

You can add them to the 'home_header' template in the Home Page Templates group

Colors are all defined in the home_headinclude template in the same group as above. You'd have to hunt down the class you're trying to edit and make the changes there

- If i have a picture in an article post, is there a way to have the image aligned left, and have the text continue to the right of it....or do we have to have an image, and then lots of vacant horizontal space and then the text ?

If you have html enabled you should be able to add align="left" to your img code. The text will wrap around it then. Add a hspace="10" or vpsace="10" to seperate the text and image a bit. If you're not using html, you might have to create a new vbcode that does this for you...

unable to have users post replies/comments
they are able to go through the motions, and it adds to thier post count, but nothing shows in the news forums. only admins and moderators have been able to reply, even when i set "registered" users to be able to post and reply, etc etc in forum permission settings.

okay, figured that one out.. helps if the forum isn't moderated. :P

this one's the PIMA now... the template header has a miscoded URL that's not duplicated elsewhere in the script.... or something..

http://www.clubprotege.com/index.php...

obvoiusly, as you can see, it's all up and running...
in the source code for the page, you find

}
.bgheader {
background-image: url('http://www.clubprotege.com/forum//forum/images/menu_background.gif');
text-align: left;
vertical-align: top;
}

I OBVIOUSLY botched a replacement somewhere...
i know i set forums home as http://www.clubprotege.com/forum/
i know i set imagehome as /forum/images/
hence the problem.

but where do i got to fix both of these? i looked in replacements, but when i change /forum/images/ to just /images i lose the buttons.... i suppose it's a conflict between the two. any guesses?

I have installed a few hacks but I am fairly new to vbulletin.

Can anyone explain this part a bit clearer for me.

Open vBulletin Admin Control Panel and a new {imageshome} replacement variable to your full website URL, like that:
Replacements > Add

and enter the following information:REPLACEMENT SET
(your choice here)
CODE TO FIND
{imageshome}
CODE TO INSERT
forum/images

Change the code to insert to match your forum location. Save the replacement variable.

The rest I understand but this has lost me completely, sorry!

Let me try and explain here...

First..
~ goto your AdminCP
~ Scroll down the menu on the left until you find Templates
~ Press Modify

At this point you will see a default line and a with a name of a skin (If you are using one) If no skin, then just expaned the default!

~ Once expanded, look for "Home Page Templates" and expand it. This is all the files for your protal.

~ Once expanded, then look for "home_header" and edit it

You should see a line like this....

<TD WIDTH=150 HEIGHT=22 align="left" valign="top"><IMG SRC="{imagesfolder}/tren_z_header_btm_forum_name.gif" WIDTH=150 HEIGHT=22 ALT=""></TD>

Remove the {imagesfolder} and replace it with the path so it looks somthing like this...

<TD WIDTH=150 HEIGHT=22 align="left" valign="top"><IMG SRC="forum/tren_z/tren_z_header_btm_forum_name.gif" WIDTH=150 HEIGHT=22 ALT=""></TD>

As you can see where ever there is a {imagesfolder} you will replace it with
forum/tren_z

Do not add the FULL PATH, just the file location...

Hope that helps alittle more...

you need to rework the HTML. I've done that on www.chopperweb.net . Just takes some time to figure out exactly how to table is made up across different templates, but once you have it, it works fine

vaporware

Vaporware is software or hardware that is either (1) announced or mentioned publicly in order to influence customers to defer buying competitors' products or (2) late being delivered for whatever reason. Most computer companies have from time to time delivered vaporware, either by calculation or unintentionally.

Let me rephrase this for you: You are not satisfied and have given up, not most of people, you cannot speak on behalf of people since you are not on that position yet.

Sportbikeworld, what it's bad for you might be ok to others.
You are entitled to your own personal opinions to say them, here on the forums, loud and clear, I respect this. But why you are the only guy complaining about a non-working site link? Why "most of people" don't? It's weird...
If you are not satisfied with the way we market our product, when it will be released, feel free not to buy it, nobody it's forcing you to use it. The Net is full of reliable software and I'm sure you will find something much better them our "vaporware".

cpublisher it's a vaporware?! i need it! Teck release a vBhome 3.0.0 plz!
I'm currently working on the retail script, at my own pace.
I will also have the cpublisher.com site up and running once the new product is in beta stage.
Until then, I will not open a site with a "comming soon" message, it's useless.

People, who use the cpublisher.com link, will have to wait until the product is in beta stage, before they can see it online. The others can simply choose one of the other portals available here at VB.org site, or on the net.
Also, there will be no screenshots, etc. about the new software, due to previous bad experiences.
I only posted an installer screenshot for people.

I've successfully installed this in my site, www.russbo.com/main.html, and have redirected all links to my maindisplay ("_parent") on my initial page, which is a frames page. However, there are two parts of this that I cannot get to refer to the parent frame: the log in panel, and the search box input. When using the log in or search box parts of VB Home Lite on my initial frames page, the results pop up in that small frame, and not in the maindisplay parent frame.

Got all the other parts of it to work appropriately; I'm just stuck on these two aspects. Can anyone point me in the right direction so that I can alter the html to redirect these two results to the main display (parent frame)??

Thanks very much.

Once you install vbHome it will put a new link in your VBulletin Options. Inside the vbHome section in VBulletion Options you will have the ability to assign forumid's to the forums you want appearing on your homepage.

Anyway, I hope that answered your question. :)

Here is an answer I know. I have dealt with the same issue many times myself, and it's pretty much ongoing. In your vbhome software inside of:

upload/admin

you will find a file called vbhlinstall.php

Upload that file to your forums/admin directory then run that file. Inside there click the option up top for "Articles Indexer". It will verify you have vbHome on your system then update your articles. Sadly, I have to do this EVERYTIME I update my homepage.

Sorry if this was asked before.

The affiliate links don't appear on the homepage. I have them enabled and they did work before but somehow they don't appear anymore.

What do I need to check in the templates to locate the problem?

A few other questions while I'm at it. Let's see if I can explain this clearly.

1. The polls do a funny thing on the home page. At times it gives you a selector, other times it shows the results, but when it does the bar images don't appear. I changed {images] in replacements to point to the directory, but that did nothing.

2. I have made a separate forum for polls, hoping that only those would appear on the homepage, but all forum polls seem to bump the homepage polls. Is there any way to change that so that only the polls designated for the homepage appear?

3. I have a private forum, and although the forum threads do not appear, any polls in that forum do.

4. I wanted non-registered users to be able to be able to comment and see the results of the poll when they open the thread, so I set permissions to open the thread for them. Although they can see the results when they check "poll results" on the homepage, they don't appear on the thread. Is there a way to adjust that?

Well that's it I guess. Hope I've made myself clear. Maybe it will help to see it.

I think I've fully understood the install instructions for the hack, but I've a little problem that I'm not able to solve reading this thread...I've done quiet a bit of searching, but can't find problem situations 100% similar to mine.

I have vBulletin installed in a directory "forum" in my root web directory; on my Apache web server, that will be /var/www/html/forum.

As far as I can see, vbHome must have it's index.php and global.php in the root
directory, above the forum directory. However, in the root directory I already have a index.php and a global.php, that belongs to another site I'm running - I can't just overwrite these.

Any idea how to implement vbHome under these circumstances?

I haven't installed the hack yet. My main concerns is that we have to put the global.php and index.php files in the root. We're using a global.php3 file in the admin directory. There's also a global.php in there that isn't used. If i put these files in the root will they be seen.

Also in step 3 we have to change the default admin path. I'm not sure what to change it to.

Step 4 requires a replacement set. What values go in the replacement set itself and for the other 2 do i enter the values as shown.

I'm trying to understand each portion of these instructions so i don't bring the board to it's knees!

i would like nothing better than to but we have no test board or server. What are you not clear about the php. i know i'm not always explaining things clearly. I don't want the main board to be reading the global.php in the root when it needs to read the global.php3 in the admin directory.

Also will the front page have the same skins as the main board does. I'm assuming we'll have to configure that right. Am i making sense? lol

As for the skins, you will have an option in your admin cp after installing the portal, to either asign one skin only to the portal, OR, let multiple skins be used at once, so basically whatever skin the user has selected, the portal will be in the same layout/colors etc as the skin

I just did. Result:

Warning: main(./homeglobal.php) [function.main]: failed to create stream: No such file or directory in /var/www/html/codforum/admin/vbhlinstall.php on line 7

Fatal error: main() [function.main]: Failed opening required './homeglobal.php' (include_path='.:/usr/share/pear') in /var/www/html/codforum/admin/vbhlinstall.php on line 7

This error message occurs when running http://<sitename>/admin/vbhlinstall.php in my browser.

I've gone through all the vbHL files many times and double-checked that all instances of global.php is replaced with homeglobal.php.

Just to be sure: the vbHL index.php and global.php (which I have renamed to homeindex.php and homeglobal.php) shall NOT replace the vBulletin index.php and global.php files, but recide in the main html dir above the vBulletin dir, right? I did the file copying like this:

/var/www/html: homeindex.php, homeglobal.php and backend.php
/var/www/html/forum: printarticle.php and vBulletin newthread.php
/var/www/html/forum/admin: vbhlinstall.php and vBulletin template.php
/var/www/forum/images: arrow.gif, article.gif, articleemail.gif and articleprint.gif

I just installed the home page hack. When i try to get to the home page i get this error. What can i do to correct this?

Database error in vbHome 2.3.0:

Invalid SQL:

mysql error: You have an error in your SQL syntax. Check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near ') AND dateline>1068609534' at line 3

The code it's failing on is in the index.php which is in the hack zip file. here's the code:

$newheadlines = $DB_site->query_first("
SELECT COUNT(*) AS total
FROM thread
WHERE forumid IN( $articleforum ) AND dateline>$bbuserinfo[lastvisit]

i'm not sure why it says line 3 because this is found on lin 45 but who cares. I think it doesn't like th ( ) value. Does anyone know what should be in $articleforum?

I need a little help with the set up of the home page. I'm not all fluent with php so be kind to me! lol here's what the home page looks like now. http://www.sculptedbyiron.com/index.php

As ypu can see it's not at all complete. Id like to get our logo up top if possible. Also why are all the 'X' boxes up top. i'd like to change the skin to something more readible and fill in the center if the page.

What do i need to change and to what. As you can see i'm a bit lost. I'll admit it!

So im guessing it should be

Basically when you did the replacement as told in the instructions maybe you added a wrong path? If so just go back and replace your old replacement with a new one.

As for the styles, check your vBulletin options, in your admin cp and scroll to the bottom where you will see FRONT PAGE options, the last 2 options on there are to do with your styles.

ronb, to customize the look of your front page, you'll need to edit the templates.

For the home page, go to Home Page Templates in your Admin Control Panel, and then edit the Home template.

For your graphics not showing up, that means that the header for your home page is not pointing to the correct image folder. You'll need to check the image path in home_header to ensure that the images point to the spot where your graphics are located.

Editing your home page is possible with vbHome Lite, but it takes a bit of work with the templates to get the look that you're going for. Backup the original templates, and then play around with the editing to see where it takes you. Good luck.

I was just looking at that and i did create it and it's pointing to images folder. the code i have is forum/tren_z. In tren_z there are images there. this forum folder is in the root.

Just for the hell of it i changed the imageshome replacement to look at images/tren_zx. Tren_zx does not exist. I thought i would get an error but i didn't! It may not be reading that replacement imageshome.

Fortunately i'm going home now!

Folder tren_z is in the forums folder as is the images folder. Using the link:http://www.sculptedbyiron.com/index.php brings up the shell of the home page but nothing much else. In the index.php i'm pointing to imageshome replacement which has in it in the code to insert fields forum/images.

I am so damn confused!

Well, I've also concidered implementing a custom style for my vbulletin/vbhome lite page - looks like I have to edit some templates in addition to the style install.

I'm going to buy a skin form vbskins.com. The skin comes with support for vbportal, but vbHome is not mentioned.

If there's anyone here that have some experience with what kind of hacks I need to do, I would be very thankful if you could share this information with me/us.

I think RonB's problem is similar, since tren_z is a custom styleset, which isn't supported by vbHome Lite out-of-the-box.

Here's an update on what i've done. We have everything pointing to php. etc. We have a version of tren_z that we call tren_z_expanded. We put the imageshome replacement in there and i see the user cp etc buttons. I still do not see our logo and other things. Also there a black blank box in the middle. I need to put different things such as news etc in there and i don't know how. I see in the globa.php file it looks for home_header template where the global.php3 file we use for the board is looking for template home. I may change these and see what happens.

We have finally got the home page to look somewhat nice. I have one rather dumb question. We're showing the tabs on top such as user cp, chat etc. These tabs are not working because they're picking up the wrong url. Instead of getting for example www.sitename.com/forum/index.php3 they're getting www.sitename.com/index.php3. The folder forum is being dropped. My question is where does this link come from? Yeah i know i'm not familiar with this language. If i can at least get pointed in the right direction i may be able to get this to work.

Also all our recent threads are being shown in a left hand column and in the middle of the screen. I want to put other info in the middle. What is sending the recent posts to both screens?

ots of questions huh

First question = Edit your template, and edit, vbhome i believe or FRONT PAGE something like this, then edit the header template in that set.

As for your threads, check your vbulletin options, and scroll to the bottom and look under the FRONT PAGE section.

Should be like the 1st 2 sections there i think.

WHich template do i edit? We have alot of them. I don't recall seeing vbhome either. The header template we're using has the correct code in it which is why i'm confused. The home_header template is being used also so why would that link not be picked up. It almost looks like the correct link is being overridden.

From the list of styles choose the one you wish to edit and then scroll down until you see a section titled FRONT PAGE (i believe thats what it is called) This is where all the templates for the portal are.

this is correct because this is the same code we have for the main page for the chat room and that works. Weird huh

No, don't use the same code. See, your home page should be on TOP of your forums, thus the exact same header links won't work. For example, your home page is at the root directory for your domain. www.yourdomain.com. Where as your forum is something like www.yourdomain.com/forum.

You'll need to customize the home_header to include the proper links to HOME, not your forum. They will be different.

It might be easiest to do this:
If you haven't done so already, make sure you have a replacement in the Home Page grouping where: {imageshome} is replaced by /forum/images

Then, any proper image link in your home_header template will look like this:

"{imageshome}/icon.gif"

By creating a proper replacement, which includes the addition of "/forum" your iamges should appear in the correct path.

The key thing to remember is that header and home_header will be different paths, since this portal is not in the same directory as your forum.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for an excellent hack, I'm starting to get rid of the "first-timer" problems here.

However, there's a little problem that I can't figure out:

When I first installed vbHome, the articles and latest discussions showed up fine, but nothing under Recent Articles. I tried to figure it out, but with no luck. So I disabled it.

After running vbHome for some days, this started to irritateme a bit, I really would like to have the recent articels showing up. So I enabled it again. Then my first article suddenly showed up, but not my 4 or 5 articles posted after that.

I've run the article indexer from vbhlinstall.php, but that didn't help.

I would also like to add a Recent articles showing only threads from a spesific forum(s), is there a hack for this around?

Any ideas, anyone?

I think its in this portal, or the other one i get confused. If i am right it will be in your admin control panel underneath vBulletin options. Scroll down to the bottom where the FRONT PAGE part is and i think its one of the last options.

I could be thinking of the other portal though.

Apoligies for this "stupid" question, but how do I change the colours of the scroll bars?

I have edited the "home_headinclude" template to put the code that I require that I believe is...

SCROLLBAR-BASE-COLOR: {categorybackcolor};
SCROLLBAR-ARROW-COLOR: {categoryfontcolor};

...however it remains the defauly gray option and does not use the new colours.

Thanks in advance.

Anyone know how I can get my birthday box back?

I had birthdays on the Portal for ages, with no proble. I noticed the other day it was gone. The templates are still there, and the $birthdaybits is still there, yet nothing appears on the portal. I tried pasting the table into the home page, but didn't work.

A weird thing: I had a look in the database and there are only 3 files for templateset id -2 (which is what the birthday code called). One was 'maxloggedin' and the other was 'onlineloc'. I don't appear to have either of these templates, but no matter. The the othe one was the 'birthdays'. However, there was not only thousands of them, but they were all pointing to the profile of this one user and all were dated the same date in Sept.

Is it possible I got hacked? If not why on earth did I end up with thousands of templates for that one user. I have deleted him (he's never posted) and deleted all those templates from the DB. But I still can't get my birthdays back on the Portal. :(

Anyone know how I can fix?

Thanx

Hi,

That won't work, the DNS for your site and the way the intenet is set up will not permit that. You will need to move you files for vbulletin into its own directory, ie. Forum/ then edit your paths and then install vbhome at root level.

DNS refreshes to root index.html and if you have a index.php (well on my servers) then it defaults to the .php extension. Some cp software for servers such as cPanel can allow redirects that are quite intricate, but not even in your case. its best to move the files.

My 2?
