Something isn't right with the new index.php file, it's not showinng bb code, like urls'. If I upload the old index.php file, the url's on the main page are right. Anyone else having this problem?

Man i finally get this right, me and my wife will buy you guys the Coor's Light. :)
I have reinstalled with the lastest updates and the polls just dont work for me, not sure why. If i enable it polls with out a poll on my baord being posted, all is fine. As soon as i make a poll i get that error.
And i never could figure out how to change the link to the logo on the home logo so i just made a directory and put the logo where it want it. If ya cant beat them join them. :)

you have to add it. i will not add it to the actual file. it will be the first hack for a hack. that's a first one at vb.org, i think... :)
refertech, i know now why it doesnt show the logo. :)
replace {titleimage} with $bburl/{titleimage} is your home_header template.
i reuploaded right now the file with all fixes. so go ahead and download it to have the latest update.
i want to apologise for those little mistakes i make... is actually hard to put toghether a large piece of code like that, without making errors...
so far you guys helped me alot fixing the problems.
refertech, we will work tomorrow on the poll ok? i'm a little happy now, i went to the restaurant and had a great time with my wife...

I have had some problem with when I change the password for a user, either by using the user cp or the admin cp i get same results. After changing pass and closing all windows. I return the the site i get the log in screen. I enter the user name and new pass it tries to take me to the wrong url.
Tries to take me here:
www.mysite.com/memebers.php
Even thou i entered the correct user/pass:
The only way i could get around this was to go directly to this url:
www.mysite.com/mydirectory/forum/index.php
And enter the new pass for that user. Then all is well.
Hummm,
Thanks man. I"m loving seeing my poll now.

This is fantastic :)
But I cant believe how much of a php newbie I am(well actually i can believe it),been trying for hours using trial and error(when I'm sure its just common sense) to do certain things.
A)Centre align my logo and buttons.
B)Get my black border around the whole page like on my board(http://www.gamerscomm.net/forum2)
C)Move Search, poll, sponsor and friends and affiliates to the right.
Never really been able to do alot on the board either :> apart from follow step by step mod texts hehe.
Can any1 point me in the right direction of how to do those things please? Hate to ask but I'll never know how without some help :[

Teck, Just checked out 3.4. Great work as always!
I just thought of something that would work great on my board. An option to upload an attachment with a new "News" post and have it display embedded in the message (just like your new journalist avatar feature) instead of at the end with the "user has attached the following image" text.
I can do it now with HTML but if possible I'd like to turn HTML off for security reasons.
Anyway just a thought. Keep up the great work!

Will upgrading to v3.4 erase any of the home_templates already installed? I guess what i am asking is what is the correct way to upgrade to the next version?
Smoothie, no, the 2 templates are in file printarticle.php.
About the templates, if they are customized no they will not be erased.
But everyone stay put, i'm making an upgrade also. :)
About the error get_bbarraycookie, you have to delete the poll thread and everything will be ok.
Relax, guys, everything is working great. The only changes done are related to article code so there is no reason for the poll not to work like before.
Have a little faith and work on it, v3.4 is a great change. ;)

Mark refertech, the mysql error you get is because you probably tried to uninstall twice.
also, you forgot to set the root path, onto your new vbHL index file, that's the error on line 12. :)

Wait for upgrade script? Or if we use the new version, we have to run the new vbhlinstall.php and upload the new index.php? I'm a little confused as to how to upgrade.
is because it's still looking for the cookie. please understand i didnt touch at all the poll code, only the "article" one where it's added the avatar.

Where is it getting 'home2' from? is your full server path, i hope you set it in the vbHL index.php file.
something like: /server/home2/www/bushwhacked/forum

I know what it is, and the path set in the index file is this, which is correct.
chdir("/www/bushwhacked/forum");
At this point please trust that I've done everything according to the readme file. I've read it enough over the last three days to almost know it by heart. Remember that I've had everything working in 3.2 and 3.3 except for the poll.

canyou explain the purpose of the Journalist group?
I guess i am confused...
JOURNALISTS GROUP
Enter here the usergroup ID value you generated in step 9. vBulletin uses 2 types of avatar groups, default and custom
(user uploaded). 99.99% of the cases, the default group is not used.
vbHome (lite) will use this group to store your journalists pictures or avatars.
The way are set the code changes, it will enable this default group of avatars to be viewed only by administrators and members who belong onto Journalists group. So if you have avatars enabled on your site, a normal user who wants to add his(her) avatar will not see the images.
I guess this is to show pics that show up in there posts or what
just for all of you that say it's not working. i did an v 3.4 install on my site, to have a live demo:

not showing my avatar on main page when i post
i'm sure you forgot to set the full url, instead on the standard one, like the way it adds vBulletin.
always use: http://mysite/forum/images/avatars/pic.gif
instead of: images/avatars/pic.gif
is the same story like smilies, images, etc.
bouncer18
10-06-2002, 08:56 PM
hmm ok
where was i suppose to put the url of my avatar?
i didnt see an option to do so.
I thought it automatically used my custom avatar.. ahh hell, i guess i fooked something else up again
Avatars > Add
no. it does not.. that's why you have to set it as default.
i didnt included the custom avatars because i wanted to save a JOIN table and reduce the stress on the server.
also since the default group of avatars is being seen only by admins and journalists, there is no way that other members can use yours.
follow the instructions on your readme file. add your avatar through admin cp panel the way you do it normally.
i also did it this way for security. let's see a journalist get pissed and he uploads a big finger, or porn as his default image. it will show on the main page. that will not happen, since only you can upload journalist avatars to your site. is well thought all.

mine was clean.. made sure of it.

then you should have all options.
open vbhlinstall.php with your editor and look at line 606 and below, to see all options there that are added.
it might say 3.4 on the home page because is in the file. if you uploaded an old installer with a new vbHL index file it will still show 3.4 on the home page but the options will not be installed.

The bbarray error is easily fixed: update your vbulletin to 2.2.8 (I got the error too when I tried to install on 2.2.4)
To access your DB use either phpmySQLadmin or mySQLFront (my preference - GREAT tool).
Removing and $poll['pollid']did not show up the poll, but it's rather late to fully test it. Will try again tomorrow and get back to you (need to check if I should install 3.4).

This is exactly the error I get. I have tried pretty much everything I know. I can not login to the home page. Does the fact that my forum can not be viewed without registering have something to do with it, and if it does what is the fix. Errrrrrrrr I love the hack tho, just need for my people to be able to login without having to go around the url. You can login in by going to (in my case) www.gearfreakz.org/memberarea

Teck, are you still gonna do the upgrade script? If not, as far as upgrading from 3.3 to 3.4, what needs to be done? Run the installer to add the extra templates, add the code to the .php/template files, and thats it?
ya, i'm gonna write the upgrade tonite.. and ad it to the package. :)
it should be done in about on hour. i'm still busy with some code i mod onto vBulletin.

Your site is working just like I would like mine too. I did notice that you changed the name of your root index file to home, altho I don't see where that would make any difference. I s it possible I have permissions set that are causing the problem??? The home page at my site works fine, it is the login that is not right, I also get a could not find if a pm box pops up while you are on the home page. I am not bashing your hack at all, I love it, just need some help fixing the login problem. Come to my board http://www.gearfreakz.org/index.php and use dummy/dummy for the password/user name and see if you can see what I have done.

ok fixed it but still no good
STEP 6
Open vBulletin Admin Control Panel and set your {imagesfolder} replacement variable to your full website URL, like that:
Replacements > Modify > [expand list] > {imagesfolder} > [change original]
and change the Code to insert to the full URL, instead of your current value, images.
Example: http://www.yoursite.com/forum/images
you didnt read careflully the readmefirst file:
http://www.massmonsterz.com/forums/images
pitt2424

that's it but it still doesnt work. all i did was get rid of the other /
is because you dont have the images uploaded. i get a "image not found" error.
make sure all images are uploaded to your forum "/images" folder
edit: i just tried to go to your /forums location. it comes with a 404. i'm checking right now your url you gave me as default. brb...
buddy, your url is /forum , not /forums
pay attention to those details.

Hey Teck if we already installed 3.4 below you released the upgrade script, will it still be best for us you use the upgrade script??? Jus wondering, thanks
ty bouncer. the problem everyone have is the rush.
let me tell you this guys. you will never get it working if you dont read every single WORD listed in the readmefirst file.
honestly i'm getting tired to hear people complaining. every single time i did an install with someone, it worked perfectly. so if it's not working is because you think you know the step, so you dont read it carefully.
sometimes there are minor changes, like a dot or comma... and you think "ahh is ok, i did this". well here it is the result. your script is not working properly and you complain.
READ ALL CAREFULLY. double check every single step 3, 4, 10 times, if needed.
vbHome (lite) is not a hack. is a piece of software, like vBulletin. so if you think you simply do a hushhhh hushhhh through all of it to install it better look to someone else's "hack".
i had people dont even bother to see the diference between "BELOW ADD" and "REPLACE WITH". when i tell them to read the step, they say "ahhhhhhh BELOWWWW ADD..., not REPLACEEEEEE...". this is inadmissible.
and i want you to get used to ask proper questions, not like "it's not working, how do it fix it??". check my signature for guidelines on how to submit a question. from now on i'm not going to bother answering to people who dont even bother to read properly a readme file.
all the best,
TECK.

Question was asked how i added the logout button on the main VBHL page.
If your using the vbulletin.org standard buttons (small square shape buttons) you can uncomment the logout button under
Find (home_header *template*)
<!-- <a href="$bburl/member.php?s=$session[sessionhash]&action=logout"><img src="https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/images/top_logout.gif" alt="Logout" border="0"></a> -->
replace it with
<a href="$bburl/member.php?s=$session[sessionhash]&action=logout"><img src="https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/images/top_logout.gif" alt="Logout" border="0"></a>
or as i did it
find (home_welcomeuser *template*)
<normalfont>Hello, <b>$username</b>.<br></normalfont>
REPLACE IT WITH
<normalfont>Hello, <b>$username</b>.</normalfont> <smallfont><a href="$bburl/member.php?s=$session[sessionhash]&action=logout"><u>Log Out</u></a></smallfont>

upload index.php after you specify your chdir('blah')
upload the upgrade php file and vbhlindex (this recovers posts on the articlebit on main index.php page)
upload all remaining files and images
Edit according to the readme
then run the update
he is correct teck, there is no explanation in plain text for users wanting to upgrade. No reference to update file
only the upgrade is fine. no need to index the articles again.
for the rest follow bouncer's tips. :)
i didnt included a readme file for upgrade because the actual readmefirst file applies for upgrade also.

quote from the upgrade script, welcome page:
Once the upgrade completed, you will need to reupload all vbHome (lite) files onto your server and set again your vbHome Options, since they are reset to default values.
Also, double-check the new steps you MUST perform, in readmefirst.htm file.
i was tired of writing code, so i thought a note on the first page of the upgrader will be enough. i will add the info in the readmefirst file tomorrow. thanks smoothie.

But right now I'm going to try and get my polls to work :)
Alas: I didn't get it to work and unless there is anything related to the poll that was changed in 3.4 I won't update to 3.4 (since I have no need for the other new features - I would turn 'm off anyway). Nonetheless, I'm extremely happy having left vbPortal.

Update: copied & pasted the "old" 3.2 poll-code in my current 3.3 index.php
Poll is working now again.
So I'm available for support, but only for version 3.3 or matters that are not dependant of version.
leechesss, you should upgrade to 3.4. the code was improved, especially the articles query.
upgrade and turn off the options you dont want. it will run faster then 3.3
however, the poll code never changed, except a little for the query. make sure you insert the $ipollperms the way they are now.
just skip the member.php and template related changes.

Question about avatars. The journalist group or whatever group I pick, by default has access to these avatars I upload, right? Now, this avatar that they pick only shows on the main index page, next to the news they post, right? Not in the forums postbit? The avatar in the postbit remains the one they uploaded, not the one from the jounalist group? Confused.........about this.
no, the avatar will be displayed also the postbit. the idea hiding them is to prevent other users to use the journalist avatars.
but they will work the same way like regular avatars. it's kind of a private avatar section for your staff only. the staff will have their predefined avatars that they select (the best way is to use pictures, it looks cool... look at sitepoint website). the rest of users can upload their custom avatars the usual way.
i did it this way to save a big JOIN, since the "default avatar" table will be alot smaller then the "custom avatar" one. the result will be a faster search onto the database, since the default table will have only few id's, instead of 10,000 for example, in the custom one.
also, if you disable the uploads, your custom avatars will not work, but the default ones, will.
btw, your no. of queries looks good now. :)
ok. i wrote in a better way now the poll query.
i need few beta testers with v3.4 installed to upload the new vbHL index.php file before i release it...

refertech, did this fix the problem for you, cause it did not for me. I am on VBhome 3.4 and everything works great, BUT I still can't login at the www.mysite.com url. When I edited the templates mentioned, I could not login at all except under my admin control panel WTF??? Anyway, if someone trips across a cure, let me know.

Well the code I understand, he had us adding $bburl in front of the member.php and the register.php in those lines. The problem is it didn't help, actually made it where you could not login at all. I a msure TECK will figure this out. I love the Vbhome, I am adding more to it now. Wonder if there is a way to get the vbulletin login box to not come up and instead use the vbhome login. Of course I have my board to where you ca nview nothing if you are a guest, so that may have something to do with it.
Still want then logout and forum button TECK............LOL

How about you add "$bburl/forums/" in front of member.php and register.php? (instead of just $bburl)

Thanks Basically, its set so that if you have members who report the news to your front page, you want to make sure they don't have a bad avatar. This prevents them from uploading one that would appear on the main index. YOU, have control over which avatar they would use.

oh yeah umm on my forum I have a second news section and was wondering will vbhome 3.5 allow you to have two news group forums for the main page. all you have to do is make the graphic footer bar, saying:
Powered by vbHome (lite) and vBulletin ... (more text here)
then, use a <map> to place the link only in certain areas, more exacly over the product text.
i just looked at one our new vbHome members home page. no wonder he want to switch to vbHome:

Trust me, I read all posts at any threads. I have a good habit of reading all of posts to prevent any annoy repeatly questions that which all of hackers are sick of. I m talking about "how can I get default avatar to show on home page"
Problem is that you are from romania(spelling??) and I m from Burma, so I have hard time to understand your english/grammar same what my english is sloppy at best so therefore I have to ask to clear up about how to get journalist avatar to display at home page. Thats all.
Other than that, your instruction is not bad for foreign like me with limited english. Thanks

finnaly got this thing up and running after getting some free time.
Wow is this awesome or what..
on another note I do have a two questions..
The news title on my page is showing up, but as far as the text that comes with it, no go :(
-what did I setup wrong to create this problem..
Also I'm getting this sql error when I try to add a usergroup now...
Not exactly sure what I screwed up to change this... Might of been when I uninstalled vbportal.. hmmfff
Anyways here's the error.. Moreover I wish I could figure out witch php file this error is created in so I can attempt to fix it.

Thx for any help, and reguardless thx for the awesome hack!
1. guruXL had the same problem with the script. probably the articleid field didnt get installed. let me know if you ran 2 time the install, that's when it's happening.
2. you should contact the vBulletin team. is nothing related to vbHome.

@Teck, since I have your multiforum hack and I create Journalist before add multiforum hack, news from Journalist will display at home page but until I install multiforum and all news that Journalist create on home page disappear. I even try to use vbhlindex.php to reindex and it is still not work.
Even create new posts and it will not display after I install multiforum hack. I m speaking of Journalist and its created news
Any idea?

I decide to give it a try, I turn off multiforum hack by change option from two forumid(2,3) to one forumid(3) as 3.4 original and articles come back but one or two articles disappear for good.
Then I turn on by add multi article by add forumid(2) to forumid(3) to get multiforum on and articles disappear again.
Seem that it is conflict between 3.4 and multiforum hack cuz of Journalist feature? Thanks
Edit: if it is not too much to ask but is it possible to add other group like Announcer for Announcement forum? Just like multiforum but it seem cause conflict cuz of Journalist. er....

Just did a fresh install of v3.4 and now no polls. :( They were working fine in v3.3 , what was changed? I tried taking the "latest poll" code from the v3.3 index.php file and put it in the v3.4 version and that didn't fix it. Was something changed in the templates or install file regarding polls?
no it was not. there were added permissions for polls.
i want you to clear your cache and upload only the vbHL index file to your server.

As far as images, I would prefer not to have them on my front page, cause God only knows what people will upload. I would think we would need some kind of control over the size as well. Maybe too much work.
