Yes, they have all been uploaded and set with correct settings. I do not see anywhere how to modify the usergroups though and my admin account is currently getting false permissions error. I have tried editing it in the usergroups manager>usergroup>downloadsII options, but despite that I still get a permissions error and cannot access the downloads section at all.

In the category template, you reference a phrase that does not exist: dl2_file
I was able to add the phrase manually to re-title it. :)

Also, it would be nice if the category description were added to the META description of the category page.

Pin/Pinned means the same as Stick/Sticked (Sticky) at the forums. It means that a file will be at the top of all listed files in a category.

How do we limit the 'pin' capability based on usergroup permissions? I don't see this, or am I blind? :confused:

Try cleaning out your Additiona.CSS template and see if it goes back to normal. If it does, you can try removing various css styles to see which one is causing the problem.

See the notes in the plug-in description under the heading "Help!!! I can't upload large files??". This is your problem. :)

You don't need to edit downloads.php :p

You need to change the permissions of the /downloads/ folder on your FTP (= chmod), using an FTP program. Search Google for "chmod *the name of your ftp program*" if you don't know how to do that.

It should show in the navbar when you have "Can Edit All Files" or "Can Manage Moderation Queue" usergroup permissions.

Or maybe you changed some templates? Be sure you reverted all custom changes.

The only negative I have is that the URL's are so SEO unfriendly.

It would be vastly better if a download was something like:

instead of

Also allow a meta description etc.

Also a SEO based title, meta description deal for the default URL of the mod would be great.

All it would take is a title and meta description field to be added to the admin area, for catagory, and primary mod root URL

Each upload could have the same fields.

Also if you could somehow make the individual download URL's into RSS format, that would be fantastic.

Oh and finally , not forcing a catagory for the downloads would be handy.

We use the same content and don't need catagories, it's just one more thing people have to click thr to get to their download.

When someone downloads the file they must open it from their browser.

Is there a way force a browser window to open when downloading a file?

Got a good strange one for ya... I have continuously loaded a file, with all setting correct I might add, lol, and no matter what I do, when I try to download it, I get errors 500 and 400...

It's the only file I'm having that problem with so far, but I can't figure out why I'm getting errors on it, and it's is the v603 on vb402...

Got any ideas my friend? I know the file is good because it does just fine on the other sites I work with...

a suggestion, when uploading a file and doesnt select category. it will still upload.. Can you make sure the filecheck is on the first priority instead of just waiting till the upload has finish and suddenly tells that you havet selected a category

You don't need to disable it as it's speeding up your forum :)
It should work fine with DownloadsII, but you need to rebuild your style. Re-enabling the option probably fixes it.

Additionally, you can change navtab_middle in the plugin PHP code to navtab_start or navtab_end.

I'm trying to add the Author column to before the Filename column in the Files section. Mind helping out? I'm not too familiar with the new variable system yet.

But trying to get the title 'Author' to be a link that sorts the category by author. Like how clicking File n such will sort the category. When I put {vb:raw sorturl.author} I just get the forum url.

I don't have a vBSEO license, so I can't. I know there was an add-on posted in the vBSEO forums for the vB 3.8 version, but I don't know about the vB 4 version.

Rebuild your style, your downloads CSS sheet is probably missing. Disabling/re-enabling the "store CSS as files" vB setting should fix it.

That's a different error, but I can't think of anything causing such an uploaderid value. Editing a file and changing the category works fine for me.

Can you give me some more information? Do you have this every time you edit the category value of a file?

It's on my long term todo list. The first thing I want to add in the future is an RSS feed (vB 4.0.3 should have some better options for integrating that).

I did a little more testing and it seems no matter what I do as soon as I click on the "Edit File" button after making any changes (or even without any changes), I get the error.
I have the current version (6.0.3) of DownloadsII

I did a little more testing and it seems no matter what I do as soon as I click on the "Edit File" button after making any changes (or even without any changes), I get the error.

DownloadsII is a free mod. I'm making it in my spare time. If you paid for it, I would understand your opinion.

That query issue is on my list. I'm keeping a list of all reported bugs and feature requests. So I'm not ignoring these.
Btw, I tried to fix it for this release, but I needed to put an extra option (selecting what image is used as the category thumb) in it then for making a good join query possible. More query work is on the high priority todo list, like getting the category tree in 1 query (and caching it in the datastore).
This release is already faster than v5, mostly because it's using less includes.

And yes, I'm making a big release together with each big vBulletin release. Is that a crime? It seems logical to me.
Next to that, I didn't just "add some features" and released it. Version 6 is a full recode: all code was rewritten. There's a totally new AdminCP, advanced search, ...

i don't think it's a responsibility of the downloader software really.. I think you should be good to go if you create an acceptable file type and just include the content type as being torrent. That should work. Once you click on the link it should kick off whatever torrent client you are using.

It's using GD functions for the thumbnails. ImageMagick isn't supported at the moment.

Very cool mod but I'm having some severe issues with Header/MIME types for various multimedia downloads.

I have a number of .mp4, .wmv, and .divx video files for download, and have added the appropriate extensions for each in the DownloadsII Settings. They all have the same basic settings:
Lowercase extension
No maximum filesize/width/height
Appropriate MIME type (video/mp4, video/divx, video/wmv)
Usage: File Extension
Open in new browser/Open File directly both set to "no"
Enabled set to "yes"

In spite of this, as best I can tell, it seems that no matter what I do or don't enter in the MIME/Header box for the .mp4/.wmv files, no actual change is illustrated when downloading the files. In both cases, the browser does not prompt for a file save, and instead plays the files in-browser in both cases, in both Chrome and Firefox. The .divx files, on the otherhand, properly prompt a save-as dialog in both browsers.

I've tried all manner of entries in the MIME/Headers, including:

video/mp4
application/mp4
Content-type: video/mp4
Content-type: application/mp4
Content-disposition: attachment; filename=test.mp4
Content-type: video/mp4

And of course leaving the MIME/Header boxes empty as well, but to no avail. Other than a brief mention in this thread of issue with .zip files which was resolved with application/zip, I really haven't found that others are having this issue, so any advice would be much appreciated.

The only question I would raise/wonder about is whether DownloadsII is sending the MIME/Headers for files that are not directly uploaded using DownloadsII, but instead are pre-existing files where the "Link to the File" is manually added during the creation process? I suspect not though, as the d2 database entries seem to grab the proper file extension from the provided link, so they are properly listed as .mp4/.wmv/etc in the database.

It may also be worth noting that regardless of the settings in the extensions, when downloading either an .mp4 or .wmv filetype, the file is opened directly in the browser in a new window, even though as mentioned, both "open in new window" and "open file directly" are marked as no. Changing these settings seem to have no affect.

Any assistance or guidance would be much-appreciated on this topic! Many thanks.

I upgraded VB and the mod about 4 weeks ago and all seemed OK, but recently I've received several reports about permission errors that I've never had before.

I can't be specific because some users can download all files, whilst others can see the files but get a permision error when trying to download. Other users can download some files but not others. :confused:

So I ran a poll to identify each member who had a problem. They're all in the same usergroup with varying post counts and none of them are in a secondary group.

I even have one guy who can't download the file he uploaded.

I've attached a screenie of my permissions settings for the UG in question, but they haven't changed since the beginning.

I just upgraded to 6.04 hoping that might fix it and I'm waiting on reports coming in.

Could I be missing something?

1. What would cause a file to need moderating and how do I manage that?
2. Can I be notified if/when a file needs approval (assuming I can't figure out why) because otherwise it'll mean having to spend time every day checking the new uploads which I really don't want to do.

1. There's a "Can avoid moderation queue" usergroup permission. A file needs approval (by a user having the "Can manage moderation queue" permission) when it's set to No.
2. There was a pm notification mod for the vB 3 version, but it isn't ported yet to vB 4.

Are you on a shared server? Your hosting company could block this because of the server load.

Otherwise there's something wrong with it: you need to restart Apache after editing your php.ini, the .htaccess could be placed in a wrong folder (or it could have a wrong name, some people save it as .htaccess.txt for example), ...

So the best thing to do if it won't work, is contacting the support of your hosting company.

It's possible that it works without restarting as they probably use a virtual php.ini on a shared hosting environment. You only need to remove the # in front of the lines (otherwise they are commented out) and remove their php_value prefix (which is only needed in a .htaccess).

Ah okay, so when somebody tried to download a file but had no permission, the Counter was set +1, but the user got the "No Permission"-Message?

No, they could run the Update Counters functionality to recount all stats. That's all.

1) You need to correctly set the "Extension Usage" option of the extension. There's a difference between file (= allowed extension when adding files), image (= allowed image extension for adding images to a file afterwards) and both.

2) I have replied to it. No need to build a mod for that.

Also, I am using a modded version of your mod (lol), so I will have to integrate changes manually.

Might I suggest implementing what I did as an option? Basically, users can see and go to every category but the permission restriction prevents them from actually downloading anything. This gives them a nice preview of what's available to them if they register or advance in usergroups etc.

What say? All you have to do is conditionalize the cat_exclude (if I remember correctly) and I will no longer have to mod things eveytime you make a new version. :P

There is functionality for this, check the AdminCP, hit Import, it allows you to do exactly as you describe.

Rebuild your style, your downloads CSS sheet is probably missing. Disabling/re-enabling the "store CSS as files" vB setting should fix it.

no no, its not UPloading thats having the issue, its the DOWNloading portion. Like when a user goes to download a file using the button link, it will only download a portion of the file. It ranges but usually around 10MB, then the user will have to click the link again and usually it works to download the file the second time around.

My stats log will show like 2-3 downloads of the same file per IP address almost every time.

I used to have a previous php download manager (Olate Download) that has been working for years without any issues like this, so I don't think its anything with my php settings...

Edit: oops I didn't read close enough. I thought you had confused the Up with Down.
I've had users upload with no problems, although I did have one user report a timeout. I've had 3 or 4 other users upload several other files without reporting anthing to me though. I'll ask for some further information. Myself I used the Import feature for most of my files, then I uploaded one from my system directly to test out the uploading feature.

Do the values you placed in the htaccess file show up in vbulletin? (shows the server and php stats when you first go into your AdminCP)

Secondly I don't think theres a way to upload a folder as that folder contains multiple files. You'd have to upload a zip/rar/7z or use some other compressed file.

As for the text document, did you add .txt to allowable extensions?

since us who runs the downloads script with dedicated servers normally runs in multiple hdd with several hdd mounted on the sevrer, and if one hdd space runs out then we cant use the download script to upload anymore
so if possibble allow us to set the upload path and let the user upload go directly to the specirfied path and dowload from that path aswell?

That's not a DownloadsII issue, but a Post Thank You Hack issue. The thank stats are right before the download stats and they start it because of some invalid HTML.

A workaround placing the download stats before the thank you ones:
AdminCP -> Plugins & Products -> Plugin Manager -> "DownloadsII: Set Postbit Template Hook" -> Execution Order -> 4 -> Save

Actually I've never had the attachment system turned on. I used to use Olate Download as my download manager, never used it for uploading, but it never had a problem with downloading files.

I'm going to suspend current troubleshooting on this as I'm about to switch from a shared hosting service to my own dedicated server. Perhaps the issue might clear up on its own :)

Downloads has its own tab option setup, you don't need to use a tab modification for it. This way it'll have the script auto-selected and it'll show the sub-navbar. Unless you have an absolute need to run it through that tab system..?

PS Would love if the DownloadsII could somehow integrate with CMS Categories. I am using catetories to collect different types of documentation articles like manuals, tips, user instructions for products I sell. Some are CMS pages, some are pdf files, and images.

So making a list with both download files and CMS pages / categories would be great.

Any tips or ideas out there?

I have mentioned this before, but believe it may have been lost in amongst all the posts.

What I would love to see (as would my members) is the ability to add more than one file in the same place.

For example - I would like to add a PDF of Questions - and then underneath it, have a PDF with the Answers, rather than the members go hunting in seperates places - which could be lost by new files being uploded?

Is this possible, Please?

Check with your host if you can edit or change these settings. My old shared host allowed us to create a cgi wrapper that initialized our own php.ini (well for use of php5, but allowed changing of the max upload and such too)

Hit the import button.
If the script finds the directry and files you will next see a list of all files in the directory. If the path is invalid, there is no error message, you just get an emty list.
Add file name (title) author info etc, select which category to import to and fill in the check box for the files you want to import
Hit the Imports button
After a while, you will then see a list "The following files were successfully imported:...."

Om my first attemt, I stopped there, as it is always a bit scary to hit a button (Import) without knowing what happnes next.

But past that stage, the Import function is a plain, simple to use, straight forward tool. Much appreciated. Made my day :)

I would suggest these changes / additions to the first Import page page:
"Absolute path to the download directory." Change this to "Absolute path on the web server to the directoy you want to import."

And add further down on the first page: "In the next step you will be presented a list of available files and you will have the possibility to select and confirm which files to import."

Like the "Latest postings" etc? Those are Widgets, so my guess is that anyone with the right coding knowledge should be able to develop one separately.

mp4sverige mentions vBa CMS, as in vbadvanced CMS. He's referring to the modules (similar to the vB CMS widgets, but not at all the same). Unless he accidentally tacked on a 'a' on the end of vB.

There's a module request forum over at vBA, so that would be one proper place to send the request.

unfortunately they don't code the same way :( vBA uses templates for its modules. Tho I think that is a template itself so might be able to pull it that way.

Your server is running safe mode. You MUST manually create a folder named dl_tmp under your downloads folder. Be sure to change the permissions to 777. :down:

well I know downloadsII has its own template for the member postbit info, can check in there to see if there seems to be a bit of code thats off, I would assume there would be such for the Thanks mod too. Unfortunately I'm not knowledgeable enough to know which one is doing it tho.

It's not that easy as that information isn't available. The database query isn't loading that.
For the first one, you need to edit the profile tab plugin and add a JOIN statement to the query to get the category table in. For the second one, you need to edit the queries in class_downloads2.php (update_latest_files() and update_popular_files() functions).

That's not a DownloadsII issue, but a Post Thank You Hack issue. The thank stats are right before the download stats and they start it because of some invalid HTML.

A workaround placing the download stats before the thank you ones:
AdminCP -> Plugins & Products -> Plugin Manager -> "DownloadsII: Set Postbit Template Hook" -> Execution Order -> 4 -> Save

I just installed it for the first time and was testing it when noticed this. After upload, instead of redirecting users to the file page which he will obviously not be able to see because of the moderation, it should show him a message saying that his file is in moderation.

This is an unbelievable Mod by the way. I can't imagine someone distributing it for free... Hats off to you man... Really appreciate it. You deserve me buying you at least coffee (I am a teetotaler, so no beer! :) ) once I have this working on my live site.

It's on the todo list (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost.php?p=1940255&postcount=2) already. Should be fixed in the next release :)

That won't be possible I guess as that's not the exspected behaviour for most users (that would be against the moderation queue principle). But you can of course turn moderation off at the usergroup permissions, so every file is automatically accepted.

Agreed and no worries. I'm using Downloads for a specialized way :) Actually at the time there weren't any media libraries for vB4, and the ones that have come out are more for video that music.

It would be great to have two columns (downloads/uploads) in memberlist and even more if they were sortable.

I guess we should have something like this:

In your AdminCP, open up the DownloadsII dropdown.
Select Extensions.
Click Add New Extension.
Set parameters and save.

Everything seems to be running fine for me except for one thing - uploading files! The "downloads" directory's set to 777, extensions added in the ACP/DII section, mime-types set correctly, but I get this:
Error! The upload failed (error type move).
Any ideas? I'm having to resort to uploading the files manually which I don't want to do.

There was a Security token added to the link, so you can't go to it directly any more.

You need to go to the downloads, click Manage Files and then click the Update Counters button.
