I want it how Videx has mentioned. However, even the above in your example - that would do for now, but I cannot achieve that either.

ad_showthread_firstpost_sig puts the banner in to the actual second post.
ad_showthread_firstpost_start puts the banner in to the first post.
ad_thread_first_post_content doesn't show the banner anywhere.

Hmmm... it looks like ad_showthread_firstpost doesn't exist on vBulletin 4.1.6 any longer. That's the version I've been working on today and that's why I didn't mention it in my reply (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost.php?p=2252381&postcount=1503).

So I uploaded the "upload" folder everywhere wherever an Index.php existed, but it still didn't work.

You do not upload the actual upload folder. You upload all the files IN the upload folder in your forum root. So if the directory structure in the zip file is:

upload>banners>then individual files

You keep the directory structure in tact and upload the banner directory in the root of your forum & the individual files in the root that are outside the "banner" directory. I'm using the word banner just as an example.

I don't know. Probably nothing. I depends also on the HTML you have in the "Text" field.

Hmmm... it looks like ad_showthread_firstpost doesn't exist on vBulletin 4.1.6 any longer. That's the version I've been working on today and that's why I didn't mention it in my reply (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost.php?p=2252381&postcount=1503).I finally upgraded to 417 and I'm happy to report my ad_showthread_firstpost is still there and working, showing a banner after the first post on each page. Whew!

You will have to make also template changes. This product isn't using default ad locations. And yes, it works from 3.6.5 to 4.1.7 :)

No. You may have N banners in the database and one "location" in the templates you have chosen, and all will rotate in this location.

There is no such thing as picking images from the file system at random intervals, although it is quite a nice idea :)

Please try simply the example shown in the movie in the very first post (How-to create my first banner (http://www.pagerobot.com/pub/rbs/rbs_01.htm)). It gives you a good insight how things work and from where to start.

Besides the included help file, this thread is full of practical examples ;)

Here is a simple way to add your banners in a CMS widget.

You will need to create a PHP Execution by doing the following:

Step 1:

1. In the admincp go to vBulletin CMS>Widgets
2. Click on "Create New Widget" at the bottom.
3. Choose "PHP Direct Execution" in the Widget Type drop down at the top.
4. Give your widget a title - do not make it too long as your box will be whatever size you have in your CMS.
5. Now click the "Save" button.

Step 2:

1. Go to vBulletin CMS>Widgets and select the widget you just made.
2. Click on the "Configure" link all the way to the right.
3. Delete all the test inside the box when it pops up.
4. Place this code in the box:

$templater = vB_Template::create('banner_sidebar');
$output = $templater->render();

5. Now click the "Save" button.

Step 3:

1. Go to Styles & Templates>Style Manager click the drop down box on the right side and choose "Add New Template".
2. In the "Title" box put "banner_sidebar" without the quotes.
3. Now in the large box below place your code for your banners like you would any other template. For instance I put this:

Ok I'm stumped!! I have been running this mod fine for months.
But now I have a problem. I currently run a single ad placement in the header just below the log in as well as the 2 default VB ads under navbar and footer.
What I wish to do is place a rotational ad into a cms widget. I can get the widget to work fine when using:
<!--@vbbanners:0@--> But adding banners to another list and using that instead won't work.
It seems I have the nth placeholder in options set to <!--@vbbanners:0@--> so it wont show anything else I assume?
Reading this thread it seems that should be <!--@vbbanners:%@--> instead but changing that makes the ads in the header disappear.
So It seems I can only show ads in <!--@vbbanners:0@--> with that same code as the nth placeholder.
What am I doing wrong? I use the <!--@vbbanners:0@--> code in the ad location template

I have vbseo installed, I've changed the place holder as per the PDF but still can't get it to work.

One of the greatest addons!!! :) I have several questions though:

1. Will it be in the future more than 10 positions?

2. Some of the ads are displaying also in the forums (specifically header and footer) how to remove that? I like the ads to be displayed only on CMS page.

3. Maybe this question is out of the thread, but I have to ask: Is there a way to setup a widget on the main CMS to show friendly sites with small graphic and link to them?

Some options need additional work to do, which however have nothing to do with my plugin.

For example, the inbuilt ad locations of vbulletin require you to define additional rules from within Advertising, else they will not show at all. In these definitions you would use then the RBS placeholders instead of other HTML and everything works out just fine :)

Selecting the style isn't helpful because you can only select one. I only want to EXCLUDE one.

But this worked. I edited the RBS Banner Insertion plugin as follows:

I inserted

/** don't display banners for Mobile 2 style **/

at the top of the "Banner Insertion" plugin and

at the very bottom.

I don't think so ... :)

I would have made for each style an ad, instead, if I really had to, or rather not used the ad system at all and modified the relative templates in a way that I could do without it. As a matter of fact, using the ad system slows down the forums quite a bit ... it is useful and simple, but not a long term solution for heavily loaded systems ;)

But if one of them is expiration, an option to send a reminder x days before expiration would be nice. I can't think of any other "banner event" anyone would need an email for.

As it is now I have to maintain a separate "Sponsors" calendar and use it to send me a reminder a few days beforehand.

Asked the developer for help and didn't get any. If any member could please help me, it would be greatly appreciated..y2ksw has got to be one of the more involved developers in vb right now. I've sort of stopped answering questions here because he's so quick to jump in with answers himself. Just wait until you try some other mods where they never answer (e.g. anything from Valter).

In your case the first thing I would ask is have you tried placing your ad using the default vb system first? When you get that working, then try swapping the placeholder for it.

This image shows an old version of the banner system. Could you please take the latest version?

If you already have the latest version, something got mixed up (e.g. old product XML on new files). In this case, please make sure to install or upgrade the product with its proper product-rbs.xml ... maybe reuploading the files and reinstalling the product isn't a bad idea :)

It looks like they added back a few ad locations in 418. Here is a list of the most requested fixes based on your votes:

The product continues to work with 4.1.8 (please see: http://www.vbulletin.it/).

The only reason why banners disappear may have their reason because:
1. You reverted the templates where you had banner replacements or you have upgraded your styles.
2. Templates or ad locations have disappeared.
3. You have disabled all plugins from config.php (DISABLEHOOK) and/or the options and forgot to reenable them.
4. You have deleted all files before upgrading, instead of overwriting existing files with your FTP client. This practice ensures you have fresh files, but will break all products which have additional files.

In all these cases there is nothing I can do about it :)

edit: I too see the sendmessage.php banner. That's probably a Really Bad Idea as it forces a potential client to join the forum before they can email you. I'd just make it link to a "contact us" page.

Yes, in the options. However, changing the default 10 positions voids the Quality Seal and you are entirely on your own with the Big Bang Theory. Normally you will be more than best served with just 2 locations, since you may (and should) reuse a single location one or more times in the same page ;)

And btw: you have to edit all templates manually. There is no such banner injection as in other products.

You need to go into the banner properties and put a tick in the 'Enabled' box and then a tick in the 'reset notifications' box, also change the dates so that it's not expired, then save the banner and the asterisk will be gone and your banner will display again.

Rephrase the adminCP to clearly state these are expiration emails (not "event" emails).
Include a variable for x days prior (but 7 is fine if you don't). Include in the admincp some text stating the hard coded 7 if that's what it is.
Include a link to the email text (so we don't have to go digging through Phrases to change it).
Include at least one variable in the email - the expiration date itself. Maybe also the name of the banner. e.g. "Hi again. Your banner for %BannerName% is expiring on %ExpireDate%."

It goes straight from the previous sig to the header on the next post. I suspect you're thinking of large border lines or something and those aren't there without a custom style. I dunno, maybe you could design banners with said lines that would make it look like it was more "between posts".

I figured out the code

replaced:

with:
sprintf('<a rel="nofollow" href="%s" target="%s">"%s"</a>', $url, $rbs_target, $rs['text']);

There was no other way to get it working since the "text" option of this mod relayed on Google javascript code and didn't keep track of text banners ever.

I cannot seem to get the Forum selection tool to work. If I understand it right, a selected forum will be blue and an unselected forum will be white.

If I leave all forums in the Forum selection section white, the enabled banners show up on every forum "like they should."

But if I select them all "blue" except one forum "white" the banner does not display in any forum.

Any ideas?

A possible clue though in IE. An ad shows, but it's not changing. It's stuck on a televisionfanatic.com ad. So maybe there's something wrong with the ad code.

Repeat two times the same placehoder in a sequence and make sure you got at least 2 banners in the database. No 2 locations needed to show 2 banners on a single page.

You need to format your text banner with valid HTML in order to to enable manually click tracking. The landing page must be defined as well and click tracking enabled.

XMas Bricolage: In order to see how it works, create an image banner with click tracking check its link and try to reproduce the same effect for your text banner.

I have also shown how to do this in this thread but at this point I cant' remember the post ID.

Although it may become one, it will need a consistent number (say about 100 x $200) of paying customers in order to allow me to hire a person who could also help in all tasks which may arise with such. However I believe, nobody will pay such an amount on a regular basis, unless it would be a power tool like there are already many in the wild web ... :)

Please don't understand me wrong, but evolving this product at the current state of stability and comfort has taken many years and every line of code was thought thoroughly in order to make it work from vBulletin's stone age until now on all systems with no flaw. Porting it to a new level would cost many more years and I'm pretty not sure if all this efford will then be paid off :)

The help file shows how to put a banner below the navbar. If you search this thread for header2, you get other hints of how to use the logo banner space. In a very similar manner they apply also to the footer.

The impression counter counts how many times it was shown. There is no discriminator. Each view = +1

Please see point 2.3.4 for the updates. Also, the update mail states: "This update adds some features for scheduling expiring banner emails only."

Essentially I implemented the 1 month ago (or so) request to allow an easy change to the email settings for expiration notifications.

All other requests are waiting for me having more time :)

Beyond standard places for vB4, you need also to select a forum section for the single banner.

The locations are not banner numbers. The banner locations are places where you want to rotate one or more banners. In most configurations you will use only location 0 for all imaginable rotating advertising over and over again, and just fill the database with banners at location 0 with filters, such as forum sections, user groups, date and time, or no filters at all.

The system itself is always rotating, but if you have only one banner for a single situation, only one banner is rotated, thus appears to be static.

In a typical situation you'll have for example a banner on the right of the logo, shown to all visitors, and section specific banners show below the menues. For this scenario you would use location 0 for the header and location 1 for ad_below_navbar. Location 0 banners are many and have no section specific restrictions, while location 1 banners have the sections selected where they may appear. Thus, all sections which have a location 1 banner will show one, the others not, while in the header always be a banner no matter what (unless there is no one in the database).

Images have no width and height values. If you need them anyway, you may use the flash wrapper, which also loads standard images.

I use a script that saves mine daily and another script to download it to my local hard drive. Monthly I do complete site backups using cpanel and download those locally also.

Realistically, you aren't going to want to restore old tables after an upgrade, which is the harder part compared to backing them up.

You are fine with this daily backup. In worst case you would ask your hosting provider to restore those one or two tables. There is however no event I could recall that critical. With upgrading (no reinstall) the product there is no logical way to loose any data and backup is just a precaution you already have on a daily basis. :)

You need also to replace all files of the product. If the files are not replaced, the new features are not visible.

A few FTP servers don't allow to replace files on the fly, thus you need an FTP client which finds out that flaw and makes a delete-copy instead. You will have to flag the destination files to "overwrite".

If you craft a script specifically, you may duplicate the banners, but refer to one click tracker only. However, this will work only with scripts :)

I have been running flash banners without a problem for over a year with this add on. Recently I had one customer send me a flash banner that will not display with this add on. It does display if I view the flash banner in the browser by itself. But when I insert the flash banner in the add on, it will not display. It does not display but where it is suppose to display I can click and it will take me to the url that I specified for the banner in the setup. I have other flash banners that display without any problems.

Has anyone else run into this problem?

Hint: Just rename the "upload" folder to "forum" (or whatever your forum folder is named), then drop it on your public_html folder. Saves you having to try to place each file separately.

I've given up on all those fixes.

In some countries or browser settings the page validation fails. Also, the & and &amp; problem is much more complex than it looks. & works on all server configurations, while &amp; doesn't. I prefer to have it working all times.

Unless all standards are respected by all software developers, software bugs will persist. Hoping in such an event is utopic, but I still believe that it will happen one day ;)

Let's do the other way round ... where is your forum located?

Move with FTP to the folder where you find the forum.php file which actually launches your forum (no redirects please).

Then, move into the upload folder of the extracted package (you have it unzipped, right?). Select all files and folders there and copy to the FTP destination. With Filezilla you do this pretty neat and no hassle. For upgrading make sure you "overwrite" the files on destination.

Done :)

However: If your FTP account rights differ from the Webserver Account, it may not work and then you'll need to do the beatings of your hosting provider ;)

I was about to upload the files within the uploads folder, when I noticed that there was a folder called "admincp" in there.

I don't want to overwrite the "admincp" folder that is already on the server for my forum.

If I upload the RBS "admincp" folder, that would override the current one. That seems like it would screw everything up.

Hard: Dig down into admincp/ and just upload the files you find there. Tedious, and prone to error.
Easy: Rename the "upload" folder to "forum" (or whatever you have your forum in) and drop it on public_html. FTP doesn't replace identical folders, it just properly adds files to them.

This really isn't the place for a complete FTP tutorial, but you can't just drop admincp on admincp because then it will simply make a folder admincp/admincp which is incorrect. You have to do it one of the ways I described earlier.

Because if I were to just drag the whole RBS admincp folder over onto the server in Filezilla, a pop up window comes up and says something like "that directory already exists... do you want to overwrite it?"

I don't have a public_html folder...Yes, one of my sites also lacks access to anything above public_html - very annoying when doing tasks like this. Not to mention disallowing you to easily store anything out of the public eye.

Not a big deal though - just go inside the upload folder, select all, then drop them on your /forum/ folder. If Filezilla really puts up a prompt for this instead of just merging automatically, then it must at least have an option to merge.

The positions are wherever you put them. I would suggest sticking with the default vb ad locations until you're more familiar and can go editing templates. AdminCP>Advertising>Manage ads - try one 'above footer' (<div style="text-align:center"><!--@vbbanners:0@--></div>).

Helping Viper with email problems is going to be trickier because it may be a problem with his server. And the email feature is new so not many are even trying to use it yet. By all means try testing it yourself with really short expiration times.

Ok, so I am obviously just beginning to figure this out... but what I am trying to do is have 2 static image ads in the header (plain old gifs). I already have one static ad in the header (since before installing this mod) but just got a new advertiser... so now I want them to alternate each time the page is refreshed. Install seems like it went perfectly BTW.

First, I'm wondering if this is even the right mod for what I want to do... I was told that it is by someone else. I still think it is the right one for me from what I can tell.

Right now I have the following code in the Ad HTML box in the "Header 1" ad location (my first ad that has been running since before installing this mod).

No, you replace the ad code with the RBS tag "<!--@vbbanners:0@-->". You add the existing ad as a banner in RBS.

There's a tutorial video in the first post, but I think we really need a new one written for total noobs - starting with how to open the AdminCP, through FTP, to dealing with clients at renewal time. It's been so long for me I can't remember much about installing it.

EDIT: Sweet. I got it. I had to deselect an option in the forums that are able to view the ad. I had to command click to deselect so that it shows on all forums. YES!!!!!

EDIT: Also, the google ad thing cycles through like 5 times before my first real advertiser displays. Is there a way to change that so I don't upset my advertisers?

Another EDIT: I added the 2nd advertiser to the ad manager, with the vbbanners code... and also added it to the mod's section with the html image... and it started to show up next to the first ad, in the header... ???? I had it listed as 2 in it's display order in the ad manager. Is that wrong? Do I need to change the vbbanners code to vbbanners:1 so that is next in the ad display?

but.. in here, the time still go randomly, sometimes 15.00, sometimes 17.00.

and let say i already set the start date to 1 March 2012, the end date 2 March 2013, then i save it. then i open the banner configuration again, without changing anything in the configuration, i press the save button, then open it again, the start date become 2 March 2012, and the end date become 3 March 2013.

is this a bugs?

I have recently installed Google AdSense. I notice that the impressions displayed in my AdSense account are significantly less (10 TIMES LESS!!!!) than the impressions the RBS is reporting.

In short, AdSense tells me I've only served a total of 128,000 ad impressions, but RBS tells me that I've delivered way over ONE MILLION ad impressions in total.

I just don't know what to believe!

What's the flipping heck's happening here and how do I fix it???

......or is there nothing wrong with RBS and Google's just ripping me off?

Anyone any ideas? Does RBS count bots? Is that why the number's so high?

is this a bugs?I have the same issue, whenever I save a new or old banner, it forwards the time by 8 hours, so if I set the banner to expire on 1 March at 1pm, when I click save it will change the time 8 hours ahead to 9pm, if I click save again it will go forward another 8 hours and change the expiry date to 2 March 5am.

The Google count is approximative and may exclude also all those counts where its spider is visiting, while RBS makes no such distinction and counts literally all impressions. There is no way to fix it, but you are free to ignore it :)

How do I roll back to a previous version of RBS? My email notifications are not working at all now since the latest upgrade?
Just replace the files from a previous version. Some options may not work, but there should be no other drawback, since new versions have only additional features.

EDIT: Sweet. I got it. I had to deselect an option in the forums that are able to view the ad. I had to command click to deselect so that it shows on all forums. YES!!!!!

Does the google ads thing pay money for clicks if I leave it up???

EDIT: Also, the google ad thing cycles through like 5 times before my first real advertiser displays. Is there a way to change that so I don't upset my advertisers?

Another EDIT: I added the 2nd advertiser to the ad manager, with the vbbanners code... and also added it to the mod's section with the html image... and it started to show up next to the first ad, in the header... ???? I had it listed as 2 in it's display order in the ad manager. Is that wrong? Do I need to change the vbbanners code to vbbanners:1 so that is next in the ad display?
I added the Bloody Beginner Guide to my task list :) Actually, such a guide would be useful for generally all plugins. The question is, how bloody are beginners? :p

If you leave the default Google banners on, they pay me a little for my work. Globally, this is about $1 monthly, good enough to pay a cup of coffee once and then, but I appreciate :)

Adsense is probably showing you a shorter time period. I think RBS's counters are only reset when you do it manually.
Right. RBS does show them from the start and there is no reset.
