Nope.

I installed your new version using overwrite. No banners.

I completely ininstalled the add-on. Then re-installed it. Still no banners.

When I installed the newest version, two ACP menu itmes weren't phrases (see attachment).

I guess I neede to try to find another solution. Pity. This one worked well in 3.84.

You didn't upgrade the files ;)

The XML for the menues is twice as large now, due to about 12 new entries. Probably also the other files are not upgraded.

Please check you are actually replacing the files on your server. Some FTP require to first delete and then upload the files in order to upgrade.

I can finally (and happily) confirm that it is indeed working in 4.01. I just needed to go back and read the instructions a little more carefully. :o

I'm not sure exactly how things work here, but if it were me I'd start a new thread in the vBulletin 4 Add-ons forum with the initial post containing the latest version for download and most of the instructions in the OP here - also add a reference back to the 3.x version for the benefit of members. Otherwise, people looking for 4.x mods may never know that this exists.

Once you've done that, identify the specific threads here referencing 4.x and PM a moderator or admin to ask to have them moved or copied to that new 4.x thread.

This is a known bug in 4.01. The header banners are not working as they should.

This may be fixed in 4.02... or 4.03... or 4.04... inquire at vBulletin.com.

Yes. It was supposed to be a Gold release but it's not even close to that... maybe RC3 even after the 4.01 release. And it's clear there will still be a lot of bugs remaining even after 4,02.

I'm not slagging vB4 - it will eventually be a decent product. I'm merely stating the obvious: The developers boxed themselves into a corner with the time-limited price incentives for upgrading to the suite. Given that customers had only a limited time ro respond to the offer before it disappeared combined with the fact that those customers were essentially buying the promise of a product rather than one they could actually "touch and feel", vBulletin needed to release something before the end of 2009. The problem is that they really weren't ready to release it and to call 4.0 or even 4.01 a "Gold" release is an insult.

One consequence is that we are now in the position of creating our own work-arounds for bugs in 4.00 or 4.01 that may disappear or morph into an entirely different bug by 4.02 or 4.03.

That's about where I got confused, too. :o

You need to place the code into the templates as follows:

... etc.

Include the <! -- and --> tags.

BTW, I set position of banner to 2, so I used @vbbanners:2@, enabled, I set the destination, copied my html code for the banner into the text box, placed the image url in there ect ect... And I placed the code at the very bottom of the Navbar template, right after the </vb:if>

Yes you can and they work better. With some templates, it's easy to misplace the ad and mess up the page opr lose the ad.

Yiu can also use the new Advertising feature in the ACP for 4.x... avoid the ones for the header because they're buggy but the others work fine.

At the moment, I'm using all three methods

Please see this tutorial which shows how to implement your first banner with version 2.2.2 of this product. It also shows exactly where and how to setup an alternative placeholder, and gives a demonstration of erratic and fixed insertion of placeholders.

It works the same way as with any version from 3.6.5 onwards. Should I make a tutorial for image banners too? :)

I am unaware of a vb4 bug that would affect images you call with this mod.

The tutorial How-to create my first banner (http://www.pagerobot.com/pub/rbs/rbs_01.htm) does also show how to insert image banners. Just make sure, the images are accessible and that the typically unused fields are unused ;)

A typical image banner takes just a name, the image URL and the destination URL.

A minor bug fix has been released (2.2.3). It repairs a case where unused placeholders remain visible, moves the function insertion to the hook global_start and changes the product URL to this discussion. No file has changed, but the product-rbs.xml.

Please make sure that you actually can access the banners you have specified, in a test page. There is no way to show a banner which isn't available on a normal HTML. Though you may use relative paths relative to your forum home, it is far better to use full paths to your images and links, since other products benefit from it (e.g. vbadvanced).
Starting with version 2.2.3 you may clone a banner by klicking the "Duplicate" button. This way you may modify a working banner slightly. In this case, you may clone one of the working adsense banners and paste your image and destination URL, remove the adsense and save. If your images are there, the banner must show up (in rotation) :)

Yes. You would have to add for at least each item a record, and in your template a finite number of placeholders, e.g. for 3 random banners of the same kind:

You mean to add more positions?

Every single one of the 10 positions may hold an unlimited number of banners. Every banner may be assigned to show to one or more forum sections and/or to specific usergroups.

These features give you a myriad of divisions which make appear banners right where you wish. If you assign to each position a few banners at most, you are not using this product to its full extent. On most boards, 1 or 2 postitions suffice to show all your banners classified to certain areas, and the offer of 10 positions really overdo.

I'm using this add-on with vBSEO 3.5 RC2 on vBulletin 4.01 and I'm not having that problem.

1. It may be that you have another mod that's interacting with this one and vBSEO.

2, There may be something in the vBSEO settings that is a problem in your case.

Thanks. This problem seems to be present quite often. :up:

To work around, it is necessary to change the placeholder from the HTML comment to something else, such as @vbbanners:%d@. In this case, vbSEO will keep the banners, too :)

You will have to change the same templates you have changed in the other style(s). If you search for vbbanners in your styles, you'll find out quickly which they are :)

Yes. See my post above. In my case, I didn't see the error message initially because it was being suppressed by vBSEO - it appeared when I disabled vBSEO temporarily in my search for the blank CMS problem.

I have tried with some custom banners as well with no success. I think (if I have the right version) it has something to do with <!--@vbbanners:%d@--> because I recall having this issue before.

Maybe you will need the full http://... to the images in order to make them run. Also make sure the images don't require web authentication, else they are not visible to guests. ;)

You will have to create 20 banner records for the home page and additional 5 banner records for the specific section.

A location is merely a group of banner types, such as horizontal and vertical, text and graphical banners. You may apply many filters to each of these groups.

I am using this plugin on a commercial site and I actually use 3 locations only. 10 locations are really over the top.

You may have, for example, location 0 banners in the logo, between messages and at the bottom of all of your pages, but you may show only part of all banners in specific forum sections and/or to specific usergroups.

If you think about 10 locations, on a large board you have literally milions of different possibilities to show a single banner.

This is a great mod thanks for your work on it. I have successfully put the ads on three different places on the page ie. header, footer and under the threads.

I am having a problem having any of the banners showing up within a thread or posts, has anyone else had the same problem? I also cannot get the vertical ads to display. I have copied positions that are working.

My last problem is that this line shows up just above the Whats going on? section of the forum:

Anybody know how to get rid of it, it maybe not be related to the mod.

If the sections don't allow HTML, probably vBulletin cleans out HTML comments or convert < and > into &lt; and &gt;, which then results in missing banners. In this case you will have to replace the placeholders with something else (in the options, e.g. @vbbanners:%d@ and in the templates, e.g. @vbbanners:0@)

Please try the duplicate button and make just a few changes to the duplicates, such as a different image, different times, forum sections, whatever you wish.

Using this with success on 3.8.4 and working fine on normal forum pages. But when integrating PhotoPost (Gallery), the banners I have put in the left column do not show. At first glance, this mod is just what I've been looking for, but I'm struggling to get started.

I downloaded the latest version 2.2.4, then the later 2.2.5 .xml file.

I've uploaded all the relevant files, and now imported the 2.2.5 .xml file

Since <!--@vbbanners:0@--> was working, I decided to renable the add-on to at least get rotating banners in that location.

I had hardcoded the ads in the other locatiions, leaving the non-working <!--@vbbanners:1@--> above the hardcoded ad.

After about half an hour, I noticed that a double ad was appearing in just one of the locations (below navbar) using <!--@vbbanners:1@--> but NOT in the other two locations using that tag. In other words, the hardcoded ad plus the rotating ad from <!--@vbbanners:1@--> was being displayed, but only in that one location.

This is just bizarre. I've now disabled the add-on again. If it worked reliably in 4.02 as it did earlier, it would be amazing but as it is it's jusy plain spooky.

Ok, let's try to trace it down. :)

I have a clean installation and for me it works at any place for any placeholder, ranging from <!--@vbbanners:0@--> to <!--@vbbanners:9@-->. I do have also several production sites where it works perfectly well with any combination of rules, some of which are very complex.

Together, we have found that vbSEO may clean HTML comments, thus the standard placeholders won't work at all, and would have to be replaced by a different one.

In order to catch all possible errors, please make sure, your placeholder in the options looks like <!--@vbbanners:%d@--> or like @vbbanners:%d@ (if you have vbSEO or other software which cleans HTML). It may have any other combination of characters, as long as a %d appears inside. %d is replaced with numbers between 0 and 9 at runtime.

- Do you have a product or plugin which disables or jumps over the global_complete hook, or changes existing hook code? Since banners are rendered there, it is the only place I would look at.
- Which of your products / plugins are working with this hook?
- Do some of the other global_complete hooks call a PHP: die; or: exit(0); command? I suppose not, else no banners would be rendered...

Just wanted to share...I am new to this forum and to vBulletin and am just figuring out how to edit the templates and css....but I needed a rotating banner system...and really like the features in this mod. I have the latest version of vb 4.02 pl1 and after not being able to figure out how to edit the templates I decided to try adding the required code to the build in banner ad setup....and it worked like a charm.

I used the code <div align="center"><!--@vbbanners:0@-->&nbsp;<!--@vbbanners:2@--></div> and created a new ad "below navbar" and "above footer" and they work perfectly....so far. I wanted to banners side by side.

Maybe it's a good shortcut and maybe it's not but right now it's working...really good, tracking the impressions and clicks just like it would otherwise...so maybe this could help someone else...until code changes and causes it not to work...;)

That's only true when you're creating a new banner. I'm using existing banners and those should show up immediately, just as they do if they are added via hard coding.

Got it to work following the instructions for VBseo. User in the option @vbbanners:%d@ with out the <!-- -->

But the only place these ads appear is in the below navbar :confused:

I can use my Google, Adsense in Admincp for that.

One thing I have been noticing is every single ad I create is set for start date to be 2 days ahead. So example is, Today is 3/8/10 The Start date is 3/10/10 Odd. Just caught that. Uninstalled and reinstalled same issue. I think I will wait until this is a far more stable system. I like it an all, but I can accomplish the same thing just by putting my adsense code where i want it. I am a new site so it is no big deal to me right now.

For the larger sites, tis is just to much work I might as well install phpads

The date/time problem is most certainly a problem with your board's timezone settings, and likely an additional problem with your server, running a day ahead.

This software can't and won't ever fix problems with servers, browsers and vbulletin styles. I'm almost sure that your style does not support all Ad locations the vbulletin Default style does, and for this reason it may not work everywhere :)

Probably it is hard-coded into your style. A few of the free styles for vBulletin have this feature enabled.

It would be a valid URL to a SWF file, like

http://www.domain.tld/myflash.swf

If this file is publically accessible and the name is conforming to HTML name standards (no spaces, special characters ecc, and if it isn't a script, it will be loaded by the Flash wrapper. Please note, that flash banners also need to specify their dimensions (width, height) in order to show up correctly.

If your flash banner can be shown normally on a HTML page, it really should work in the wrapper, too. However, if the file of the flash banner isn't a true banner, but a camouflaged Java Script or anything else, it won't. The wrapper will not interpret flash banners which aren't conforming to Flash.

If you are sure the flash should work, please send me via PM the link to your file and the expected width and height. I'll have a closer look to it :)

That was actually a bug (missing check upon upgrade/installation) and got fixed today.

Version 2.2.6 though will not be released immediately, since I'm also adding, as suggested, some of the most important issues to the help file.

No, that's incorrect. All "Clean HTML" does is remove white space from the code, which makes the code easier to read. Search engine spiders have no problem jumping over spaces and it isn't going to affect indexing or ranking on any search engine.

I'm sorry, I can't fix problems with the embedded flash. My flash wrapper embeds arbitrary flash images in order to allow to change the destination URL and eventually enable click tracking. If this doesn't work for you, you still can use your code inside a rotating banner in the Text field, but also would habe to code the flash accordingly to point or to the click tracker, or to your final URL.

I watched your video and this seem quite easy. Anyone know where to edit a template to put a place holder to place two of them side by side between forum topics on forumhome?

Hope that made sense.

Can anybody lend a hand? Am I supposed to define two banners 1-2? or just one? And where would I put this to make this work?

At the location where you want them to appear, try something like this:

assuming that you have set up banner 0 and banner 1 as the correct dimensions.

I haven't tryied to do this, mind you, partly because I upgraded to 4.02 and this add-on isn't yet upgraded for 4.02, but it's worth a try.

Definitley going to try this dj, do you know where to insert this to show up side by side between forums on the forumhome? Also, can I set more than two banners to rotate if I only use the 2 defined? A good representation of what I am trying to accomplish is on anabolicminds.com on forumhome

At line 57 in rbs_banner.php, you may comment out the if statement. In this case, the referers are not checked against the forum URL, and clicks should be counted. However, this opens a door to click fraud.

how can show banners between every X post ? for example set these :

1) show after last and first post of topic.
2) between posts .

I used vB 4 Advertisement management and I shifted to this mod and it's so better but cannot customize well for between posts .

I have this installed on vB4.0.2 PL4 and I can get it to work in some places but not in others.

It seems to work correctly on the index page, but it doesn't work inside the forums.

For example, I added <!--@vbbanners:2@--> to the ad_global_header2 template, then set up a banner which I set to Position 2, and set it to display in all forums (nothing selected in the list of forums). The URL for the image is valid; I can enter it directly into my browser and it will display.

I can see the banner on the index page, but if I go to any forum it isn't shown. Can anyone help me to understand why it doesn't work as I expect it to?

Maybe ad_global_header2 isn't implemented in all templates, such as FORUMDISPLAY. There were or still are a few bugs reported regarding the banners in the header area.

If the "Forum Home" option is checked, it will show only there though.

If you use vBAdvanced, you may add placeholders to the vbAdvanced templates only. Other CMS which don't use vBulletin as engine, are not supported.

You will have to ask an HTML / Style expert for this issue. Then, when you know how to show an 'X' between your posts, you may also replace that X with a banner placeholder :)

If this is a general rule and you are happy with changing the code a bit, you may add (hook: global_complete, "Banner Insertion"), on the very top:

}This way, the plugin code will run only when the portal pages are shown. However, it also keeps the placeholders unchanged in other pages, which may have undesireable side effects, if they are not in the HTML comment format. True vBAdvanced support would require more coding.

If some more users are interested in an additional feature for vBAdvanced support, this is the time to ask :)

Change the banner code accordingly to your wishes (plugin hook: global_complete, "Banner Insertion"). Please note that you have to reapply this change after each upgrade. Also, direct links to other sites without nofollow have a direct impact on your Google Site Rank (your page ranking decreases).
Uncheck the Click Tracking option (you can't have enabled click tracking and direct links in the same moment).

The normal templates are filled and they do work. If not, probably you are encountering a style problem.

Take a look at the attachments and you'll see that when creating a new ad there are no locations listed within a thread except two. Both fairly useless, imho.

thanks......this is a nice practical solution....

i usually do not modefy the board alot.........first because i forget the modification....second..would be very hard to make upgrades..........hehehe........as if i am going to upgrade to vb 4 with all my modifications.

I can verify this cause it displays on my smartphone but not on my desktop. Now when I try to create an entirely new banner and place in the same exact position I get nothing. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

It is tested in 4.0.2 and except for another heavily hacked and modded board, it runs.

If you see <!--@vbbanners:0--> in your HTML code and this product is enabled, it is a proof, that the global_complete hook never executes, thus some of your products/applications intercept this hook and drop standard execution of the vbulletin code. There is nothing I can do about this.

If you know the intercepting product, you may try to move the plugin hooks somewhere else, probably to the replacing hooks, but it is not guaranteed to work.

I have tried to place a standard image banner but with no luck. I dont know if im doing something wrong in the Image / Flash area or not. I have just been putting in the full location of the image I want displayed and in the URL box putting its click destination address. Im sure its something simple, but I just cant get it figured out. Not sure what happened, but after testing with the 'X' outside the <> and it showing correctly it started working. Im sure I messed something up somewhere, but good news is that it works!! Thanks for all your help!

and have a problem wen make zoom with mouse "Ctrl+Scroll Mouse"

The Flash dont zoom if i put flash banner in HTML zoom is ok.

Did you have a fix for this?

Weird bug: I have this add-on installed in 4.03 currently (but have been using it since 3.8x through 4.01 and 4.02).

I have the banners inserted in some custom places but in order to minimize template reverts and editing where possible I use the vBulletin ACP | Advertising settings and insert the <!--@vbbanners:0@--> or <!--@vbbanners:1@--> codes there.

The only bug I've found is a persistent though internittent one: Using the Below Navbar location in combination with <!--@vbbanners:1@--> defined as a leaderboard size (wide) banner (rotating between AdSense and some affiliate banners), most of the time it works fine. Very now and then, though, it will stop displaying banners at that location (other locations continue to work). To fix it, I need to go back into that location in the ACP, click on Edit, and then Save without making any changes.

I'm really not 100% certain whether this is an issue with this add-on or a vBulletin 4.x issue. However, for a while, I disabled the add-on and hard-coded the ads in that location (i.e., no rotation) and the problem did not occur under those conditions.

You enter only one at a time in each location where you want that set of banners to be rotated. Enter EITHER <!--@vbbanners:0@--> OR <!--@vbbanners:1@--> OR <!--@vbbanners:2@--> OR <!--@vbbanners:3@--> OR <!--@vbbanners:4@-->.

It would be rare that you'd want to have more than one group in a specific location, unless you want them side by side or one under the other.

The plugin is not a replacement for Google Adsense or any other system. However you may use it to show Google Adsense scripts and will give you a little extra feedback, such as the number of impressions.

As said before, 10 positions are much more than you ever would need on any kind of site. If you see a position as a fixed place somewhere in your styles, it is a partly wrong assumption. Positions are rather banner types, like square, wide or skyscraper. Together with other settings, you get almost unlimited filters where and how to show banners, all with one of the same "position", or at most, one or two additional ones.
You will have to use conditionals in your styles. I don't know yet how this works on 4.x, but I'm sure somebody knows (I'm not a designer). Most probably it hasn't changed much and a comparison to THIS_SCRIPT suffices (some sort of if condition="THIS_SCRIPT='content'" tag).

Hello, when I have 2-3 banners in, every so often it will show nothing. Its like it goes through them all and then will "run out" so that space on my forum is like there was nothing ever there. Anyone know how to fix this?
