I'm pretty much sure you need no unlimited positions but at most a few. Together with all the rules and filters you may show an incredible amount of different banners in all kinds of areas of your forums.

If you believe you need a position for each banner, you are wrong. Each position can be reused for different rules, and that's its power :)

If you wish to count clicks, you will have to include the respective code in your script as well. If you enable click tracking for an image banner, you will see what it needs.

Basically you'll have to call the [forumhome]rbs_banner.php?id=123 script, where 123 is your banner id. Unfortunately I'm unable to tell what happens if there is one or no destination URL. Most probably you'll have to fix the script for your specific needs, too. I believe it may work, if your scripts have no dynamic destination.

A direct link to another site (no rel attribute) has only sense if it is a business partner and you wish to exchange banners for ranking reasons. A directly linked external site reduces the own ranking of page by 1 point, while using rel="nofollow" does not have side effects.

Sorry I can't explain what the Nth Placeholder box does as I agree it's a vague description. Are we supposed to enter a something else there if we want to use banners 1-9?

You don't have to know what they mean, unless you want to change the default behaviour. Left alone, the rotating banner settings just work fine :)

Have you tried to setup a banner with the suggested template change? If not, please watch the movie end read the help. This product is not guessing where you may want to show banners, you decide and make a small change ... that's it :)

Hi, we've ran this product for some time but after updating the forum to the latest version the banners aren't showing up. I checked settings that the product is enabled and so forth, but no good. The banners stopped appearing. What can I check or do?

If I have to remove and reinstall the product, can I save all the data? There are about 30 or 40 banners that I don't want to create again!

Your banners aren't saved in this product, they're in your banners folder. I take it you weren't the person that set this up, but you're going to have to learn it if you want to use it.

You have asked and I have answered. If you don't know what it means, there isn't much I can do. Please Google for nofollow and continue reading with Google documents about SEO. This argument goes far beyond this product, but I felt I needed to tell you about potential side effects ... which are explained in detail by Google :)

Maybe if you tell us what you don't understand, we are able to tell you more about it.

This mod doesn't do any guess-work. It requires you to make changes to your template(s) on your own and most probably you have best results going first with the default banners before starting to think about implementing your own.

Most of the users of this mod first delete the default banners, then try and of course, they don't get the expected results. There is a practical reason for the existance of those banners, and I can only reccomend to use them first, with the simple and plain example shown in the movie and in the help files.

I don't do you any damage with these banners, they are guaranteed to work. Once you have mastered to show those (level: extra-easy), you probably will copy one and change it ... or try your own.

Once you have accepted that the mod needs a little attention and have made a few experimants, you will discover its power ... and never will let it go again :)

If you have uninstalled the product, it has cleaned up after itself and deleted banners and the rbs_banners and rbs_hits tables.

This would explain why banners have gone. However, since you have surely (have you?) a backup of your forums, made as reccomended by vBulletin Solutions before any upgrade, you should be able to restore the rbs_banners and rbs_hits tables easily :)

I can't see why it should not work. It looks like a standard style and if you can show an 'X' on it, you can also show a banner.

Allows to specify up to 10 banner locations. The %d parameter replaces the numeric location in your template, e.g.: <!--@vbbanners:0@--> will insert the standard horizontal banner from the previous versions. Currently, only placeholders from 0 to 9 are allowed, where 0 and 1 cover the previous horizontal and vertical banner locations.

Thus it may be confusing, but most users will not try to go over the top 10 anyway. The option allows you, as a perfect insider, to override an inbuilt and suggested value with one you retain necessary no matter what, and since you know what you are doing, the help would not make any sense to you anyway :)

However, if you have a suggestion how to change the advice, I will happily include it into the documentation and user interface.

Ok, I see what probably happened. Having inserted the maximum count you haven't taken in account that the banner locations start from 0, and thus go from 0...(n-1). Since 10 locations are the default, they go from 0...9.

Here we go with testing. If I set 11 postions, I may cover location 10, since that would be perfectly legal. When I later fall back to 10, because I feel I have already enough positions, the side effects begin to show.

1. Set your max locations, e.g. 20: 130257
2. Setup your template: 130258
3. Setup a banner
3. Test: 130259

For me, it worked both for 10 and for 19, and of course with the other banner on top of the map, at position 1 :)

I believe those are the the 'ad_blogsidebar_*' templates ... I'm not sure what the vbulletin banner system does to HTML. I'll see :)

The code does nothing special. Banners rotate also in vBulletin ad space, so when it runs in the header, it also should run in the blog sidebar:

The forum sidebar is cached, but if the content is HTML, the banners are still rotated. So far I can tell the banners rotate everywhere in vBulletin and the only known issue is about forums using photopost and its pages.

In all the years I'm software developer (34), I never have found a better way to describe how to install a software than to illustrate visually. However, I believe that vBulletin owners are grown up enough to follow a common line. If you managed to install vBulletin, which has in fact simplified a lot lately, you also should be able to install a vBulletin plugin.

Without going now into the psychological detail, why installing an addition may cause more grief than installing a software, I would like to say that a free software addition with almost all commercial features one could desire, everyone could invest a little personal efford to get there.

Of course, if in the course of this plugin it will work out to rather sell, I will also be able to pay somebody who may install the plugin and make it work at each customer's forums. ;)

Do you have vbSEO and its HTML cleaning enabled? Are you editing the right style? Does the start and end date/time fit your server time? Have you enabled other restrictions? Does the image exist?

Please continue with ad_navbar_below and maybe with the default style first, just to be sure everything works as it should.

Then, please put the image URL into the Image field and the landing page into the URL field. Keep the Text field empty unless you want to show a banner which isn't a plain picture.

My problem with having double banners existed because I had the code posted in two templates. I had it in both the "ad_navbar_below" and "ad_global_below_navbar".

You probably need also to change the Options to @vbbanners:%d@. the default placeholder is <!--@vbbanners:%d@-->, so if you have not changed the options, you will have to use <!--@vbbanners:0@--> in your templates instead of @vbbanners:0@ ;)

If your flash has already the right link, then you fill the Text field with the HTML which shows your banner and leave the other fields empty. In the case you have a Flash banner which internal URL is missing, erroneous or where you may want to track clicking, you would use the Flash wrapper, which embeds the flash file and ignores thus the internal URL, using yours instead.

Ok, here's a screen capture of vbCMS article in Safari 5.05 (latest version) using a MacBook Pro running OSX. Note advert is placed over top of screen content at the top of forum instead of the bottom. (see pic on the left below)

Same screen of same vbCMS article on same machine using Firefox 5.0 places banner from this mod at bottom in footer. (see pic on the right below)

I don't understand where to look to fix it, given in works in one browser and not the other. :confused:

Note: does not happen on forum home screens or other screens, just vbCMS ..

thanks videx, that information I'm sure will be most helpful, now I just have to figure out what is going on with my advertisement section of the AdminCP, everytime I click on manage ads, or add new ad, it simple shows a blank page, and when I try to navigate to another part of the admincp, the blank page persists to the point where I have to reload the page....fun stuff. You likely uploaded the files to the wrong path. Make sure you upload the CONTENTS of uploads to the root, not the folder itself. The path layout in the uploads folder matches the layout for vBulletin so do that and problem should go away. The file upload has to be there in the right place before importing any vBulletin plugin.

Additionally, it may be possible that your FTP rights differ from the rights of your web server, thus files may be there but can't be seen by the web server.

I tried uploading the contents files to my webserver using CPanel and got the same error. To confirm I am uploading the files from the admin folder and xml folder to the corresponding folders on my webserver then uploading rbs_banner.php and the stats.php to my forum root directory.

I thought this might fix a similar problem I'm having, only with Safari and in vbCMS articles, but unfortunately it didn't.

I found out where to place the code so that the flash banners will not be placed over the top of dropdown menus.

Go to you plugins and find the plugin "".

When I disable the google ad, that comes with the plugin. The ad disappears even though I have one installed. So, to confirm:

URL: URL to linked website that is being advertised
Image/Flash: Image URL

So as an example

Image/Flash: http://www.example.com/image.png
Tick click tracking
I leave the flash banner options as I'm not using flash, just an image
Max Clicks: 300

When you have flash banners which show over menues, they are not transparent. This is a general problem with flash banners and eventually you fix it with the attribute wmode="transparent" and explicit code. However, using the wrapper you should not have this problem, because it is transparent.

If you use the wrapper, you can.
Create a new banner and just fill the fields you really need. This is what I mean :)

Check also the time frame. I have found that many servers are out of sync quite a lot (few hours to few days) and thus banners will not show because they are "expired" or not yet to be shown :)

... and it still appears at the top of the forum instead of the bottom, overwriting the navbar area ...

You also have <@vbbanners:0@> while it should read @vbbanners:0@, according to the options. Browsers may interpret it as an unknown tag and discard!

People, please read, look closely, verify! As said at least 10 times in this thread, make sure to match the setting of your options, or leave as it is.

Yes, with the code from the unsupported add-on you may show banners on other pages. (post 989)

Basically you create an iframe which calls that script. The script connects to vBulletin and gets the banner. Depending on what you want, you may remove the REFRESH meta tag (no in-place rotating) or leave it (reloads new banners after a certain interval).

Here, as an unofficial addon, you get the autorefreshing page (tested). It needs:

- a text editor;
- a refresh time of your choice (see metatag refresh in file, now at 10 seconds);
- a banner location (see placeholder in file, now at position 0);
- at least a banner for that location;
- a global target of a new page aka _blank (RBS options), else you jump into the iframe;
- a template modification for a 468x60 banner:

That could be the nature of iFrames, they are different in different browsers. For a start make sure in your CSS {padding=0px;margin=0px} and the same for what the iframe is referencing

Yes, it's likely your css styles influence the behaviour of iframes. With no settings, iframes have a border and scrollbars, if needed. These features must be disabled, of course ;)

could someone tell me how to troubleshoot a ghost ad banner that only appears in Google chrome? I have the below navbar location turned off but there is an ad displayed anyway. and If I turn the location on then there are 2 ads displayed in chrome and only one in firefox and IE.

thanks for the response, I have discovered that it is the ad from the footer witch is being displayed at the top of the page in Google Chrome.

I have tried putting the code into both the ad_global_above_footer and the ad_footer_start templates and neither produces the desired effect.

I will just have to find a place for the code that works for FF, IE and GC

You can use it together with the in-built advertising module, but I would suggest not. My suggestion is to use directly the templates, because it is significantly faster on large sites ;)

So I disable Ads in the in-built module, I;ve enabled ad in this mod but it still doesn't show...I guess I'm doing something wrong :-(

The number N in the @vbbanners:N@ placeholder stands for the location. The banner ID is only useful for statistics and for click tracking.

If your test banner with ID 3 is setup at location 0, your placeholder should look like:

@vbbanners:0@

If you post @vbbanners:0@ in a message, a banner will be inserted. This also applies to the CMS and anywhere else. If you preview or edit a post with @vbbanners:0@ however, you have to reinsert the placeholder again before saving.

Hi, I am running on 3.8.5 and am struggling with a flash banner, I can get it to display correctly, however, as soon as I wrap it so that I can use a URL on the flash banner, the banner loops, the client does not want the banner to loop, the banner must stop after the first animation, but the only way I can get a link to work on the banner is by wrapping it in your code, but then the banner loops, is there any way I can stop the banner from looping? All the flash activity is defined inside. If you have a banner which needs to be corrected externally, the only other whay you have is not using the wrapper at all and paste the whole object/embed code into the "Text" box.

I know about the graphics and SWF files. They are in a folder, in my web server. I mean the settings per banner, and in some cases, the code I put in the code field to display the SWF banners. Not to mention the 30+ banners I would need to enter/setup manually again. I would prefer to avoid that.

And last, but not least, the stats. I need to keep them as they currently are. For instance, some customers have paid for many months in advance and at the end of the period they want to know how many impressions and how many clicks were delivered.

I really hope there is no need to uninstall this plugin in order to upgrade both vBulletin and the plugin itself.

You don't need to upgrade if you are happy with the version you have. This product is compatible from vBulletin version 3.6.5 to 4.x with no changes.

To place one banner beneath or below another, you just repeat the placeholder in the way you wish, and make sure you have at least the number of entries in the database, e.g. (3 banners):
<!--@vbbanners:0-->&nbsp;<!--@vbbanners:0-->&nbsp;<!--@vbbanners:0-->

You always just apply HTML. If div or br, that's all up to you :)

This product does not modify your styles, templates or messages by itself. You will have to open a template and make a change to it, adding for example:

and save. Then (if you have still the default banners) one of them show up at the designed location. Once you have mastered this step, all the rest is just a question of trial and failure.

There are no instructions with this other than a big PDF file explaining what it is.

I have uploaded the files in upload, imported the xml into admincp and the ad system is there. I even uploaded the addons folder to the forum root and the content of the addons folder to the forum root since there were no instructions saying what to do with that folder.

So I now have this banner system in there and I can see there are two default ones, but they do not display on the forum at all. Do I need to edit my templates to get them to show?

You can use vbSEO HTML cleaning, but then you have to change the placeholder to something different than a HTML comment. As told in the large PDF file :)

You normally would use the same placeholder over and over again in most of your templates. The formula inside will fill each same placeholder with a different banner as long as you have some in the database. You very rarely would use another "location" than 0. Thus, you would use

<!--@vbbanners:0@-->

one or more times in a page, and each time another banner appears, unless you have less available.

Of course, the placeholder looks the way as defined in the options ;)

I made a partial workaround by placing a static <a href="http://www.mysite.net/forum/rbs_banner.php?id=34&userid=2"><img src="http://www.mysite.net/forum/banner-image.jpg"></a> but unfortunately, this workaround only counts clicks and not the impressions. I desperately need the impressions to be counted too.

I disabled vBSEO HTML cleansing tool, disabled rbs_banner.php rewrite etc... but it's not working there in header template.

Y2k, do you have any solution how to make it work on header template or how to make the alternative solution work on my case. I am on vB 3.6. I know

I'm even willing to pay if you can make a quick fix.

How do I edit it so that I move the advert to after say the first post and then every 15 posts?

I had this on a previous style on the forum but that was for a single advert. I basically want to do the same but with the rotating system instead.

1 set of adverts to appear under the nav

1 set of adverts to appear after the forum list on forum home

1 set of adverts to appear after the thread list

1 set of adverts which would appear after the first post and after x number of posts.

I want this so I can have different adverts for different area's of the site. For example on our betting area we would only use betting banners.

Also I would like to know if I can make a donation to the developer with anything other than paypal? This is a very good plugin and I want to donate some money towards its development.

I desperately need the impressions to be counted too.

I disabled vBSEO HTML cleansing tool, disabled rbs_banner.php rewrite etc... but it's not working there in header template.

Y2k, do you have any solution how to make it work on header template or how to make the alternative solution work on my case. I am on vB 3.6. I know

I'm even willing to pay if you can make a quick fix.

I fear this can't be fixed. The header template is rendered in a different moment and rendering the banners there would invalidate all the rest.

Why do you need to put banners in the header template? Are you trying to rotate the logo?

So I have looked at the location options and some of them include adverts within posts, which I personally do not want or need.

How do I edit it so that I move the advert to after say the first post and then every 15 posts?

I had this on a previous style on the forum but that was for a single advert. I basically want to do the same but with the rotating system instead.

You could replace for example the prevuois banner code with a RBS placeholder. Then, a rotating banner will appear as long as the conditions and availability are met.

I'm struggling with this plugin.

I have just created a test banner and put it in location 3.

I then put <!--@vbbanners:3@--> when editing the style ad_thread_first_post_content but nothing appears.

Is there more to this? I was able to get position 0 to appear by putting <!--@vbbanners:0@--> in the below nav bar template and they appear fine. Am I missing something?

Is there a way I can put adverts in locations manually rather than using the placeholders?

I basically want these locations:

1 set of adverts to appear under the nav

1 set of adverts to appear after the forum list on forum home

1 set of adverts to appear after the thread list

1 set of adverts which would appear after the first post and after x number of posts.

I want this so I can have different adverts for different area's of the site. For example on our betting area we would only use betting banners.

Also I would like to know if I can make a donation to the developer with anything other than paypal? This is a very good plugin and I want to donate some money towards its development.

Did you try the location 3 banner? If location 0 shows up, there should be no problem to show location, to. Please try to duplicate a working location 0 banner and the change it to location 3 (and save). If that works, change it a little more, such as using s different image.

If it doesn't work, the most frequent errors are: spelling, missing images, incorrect HTML (in Text), wrong time frame, wrong section.

If you would just keep sometimes the default banners switched on, a few pennies arrive by your visitors clicking on them ... mainly, this is how this product is maintained :)

PS: If not using placeholders, the banners don't rotate. And that doesn't make much sense ;)

I have clicked many times on the image banner from different IPs and with different users logged in (or without logged user).

I am sorry for this silly question. I am using vBulletin 4.1.5 Patch Level 1 and installed this mod. But this is not working. I followed every step from video and also checked manual. But no luck. Banner is not showing. I check source of forum home page nothing I found with "vbbanners" text.

In admin panel everything seems fine as per video.

Text banners don't track clicks ... that was said many times :)
However, you may track them, if you put your landing page from your text banner to the URL field and substitute the text banner landing page with http.../rbs_banners.php?id=N, where http... is your site and N is the numeric ID of the banner itself. That was said many times, too ;)

Site runs vBulletin 3.8.7. And vBSEO 3.6.0. The banners were installed some time ago and worked just fine until I installed vBSEO.

Things I have done so far:

1. Checked the banners to be sure that they can show within my browser.
2. I have changed the code to work with vBSEO.
3. Turned off the vBSEO html clean up.
4. I changed the settings in the vb admincp taking off the extra html.
5. Cleared the cache in my browser
6. Hard Refreshed the page.

The banners simply do not show in either skin I have a bought skin installed & the default skin. they do not show in either one.

All I can say is, I never had one single case in which it wasn't possible to show banners.

There is an issue with vbSEO and you fixed it.
There is an issue with photopost, where it will not work at all (only there).

So I can only imagine you missed something. The most frequent errors are spelling, followed by an error of assignment rules.

If you can't fix it, I can try. Please post me an admin account via PM and once I have time I'll see into it. No hurry though, because my duty list is chilometric :)

is it possible to run this addon or call the banner script inside my complete php file? example "test.php" ? but the file is inside the directory of vbulletin forum core file too.
