This was an answer.
There's a template for the Header(?) which you would put your reference (@0 etc) into.
To rotate those ads. you would need to assign them all to the same position


Here is another.

You need to do what they said and add the code from this response to additional.css template:

That will fix the positioning.

To rotate ads in the same spot you place those separate ads into the same banner position within this mod. Then in the ad position of your template you would put "<!-- @vbbanners:0@ -->".

The "0" in the variable refers to the position you want the stored banners to come from in this mod. Then once that is setup on each pageload the banners within that stored position will randomly be chosen to show at your ad location.

There are quite a few other options, but they are all explained pretty well within the documentation attached to this mod.

I haven't seen an issue with this and been using it for quite some time (well over a year). I have seen dozens of banners expiring and being placed on the expired banner list and no longer being displayed.

Are the impressions statistics accurate? I'm getting some crazy high readings like 1.6 million in 3 months. It's showing on every page, but dang that seems like a lot.

There's also another ad sharing that location and it has the same, so that's 3 million impressions in 3 months.

I've found them to be accurate. You should be able to compare it to pageload statistics.

If you're getting that many impressions your bank account ought to be telling you it's doing well too!

I have finally managed to get a placeholder up but by the time the page is fully loaded, the placeholder is then covered by other elements on the site.
I put width and height dimensions in but still lose the placeholder.

I am having a few problems. 1 how do i get my ad over and under the welcome name (see attached img) and also how do i add multiple ads to rotate in the same spot?

This is a known issue with some flash banners which haven't the transparent attribute set. It is necessary to tweak the banner to make it work properly. For a few banners also the flash wrapper may work.

If your database server has a different date or time zone than the web server, there may be timing problems, such as shifting date and time while saving and not getting the desired results. There is nothing we can do about it.

In the included help there is a one shot tutorial to get it work. Also, there is a movie in the very first post. And, eventually, it will help to reinstall the plugin and just try it without first tweaking the settings. :)

Is a way, I can change the image to % rather than pixel. I have a script from a third party for a 3rd banner and is 728 x 90. This size is fine, but it looks out of place depending if you use a laptop or a full size monitor.

Note: it's a script with an image and not image, which would be easier.

We're really just now getting started with advertising so I only have a couple up from people who own the site, but if I were to charge real clients what the stats say, I'm afraid they'd question the reliability of the stats, especially if I gave them a google analytics printout. I don't know enough about any of this to make an argument either way about what stats are more accurate.

One of the ads is actually one of mine for another company I have, and I wouldn't pay as much as the impressions say I would owe, so this has us questioning our entire pricing policy.

Yeah. But bots are server issues and firewalling is one of the tasks which one way or another should be covered from your hosting provider. There are a few giveaway tips, but most aren't. One of them are fail2ban filters on apache records ;)

I hope this is not getting off topic, but we don't have a host provider, we're attempting to manage the server ourselves at this point to save some money. Maybe once we get some ads going we can afford to go the managed route (which is actually what I'm working towards). Yes, sure. And it saves a lot of bandwidth and hacking attempts as well. If your site gets spammed heavily, it sooner or later gets hacked, too.

I use the Spamhaus DROP list to cut off the obvious and use fail2ban to fine-tune the firewall, besides of blacklisting all far too obvious login and register attempts by several scripts. Summing up, it means to cut off almost all unnecessary traffic and thus reducing also the hit count on ads.

Oh well ... and I use connection- and bandwidth-throttling for spiders, too.

All you need is found in the rbs_hits table. You may extract all information by entering some queries from phpmyadmin :)

This query gives you, for example, a daily count of clicks on all banners:

LEFT JOIN rbs_hits h ON b.id = h.bannerid

Please check the timing and eventually selected forum sections, usergroup exclusions etc.

If you can show the standard banners, duplicate one of them and put your individual code or images in the duplicate.

For some reason vB works better with simple coding of HTML. Did you try:

<center><!--@vbbanners:7@--> </center>

You may even try putting a break such as

<br><center><!--@vbbanners:7@--></center><br>

Not sure what you are trying to do here, however if it is 2 banners (different or the same banner owner (client)rotating in the same place, the second banner would also have to be in position 7. That way any banners designated 7 would rotate with any rotate with each other.

I have had as many as 10 different banners all rotating in the same space just by designating them all one number. If you don't know how to do this give me a shout as it is simple to grasp once you figure it out.

Also I will placed a banner in a thread and "stuck" it as the first. Great spot for advertisers. vBBanners is a great mod that you can get to do just about anything once you get comfortable using it.

You may: Clear and uncheck everything (also click tracking does not work) and just put your code in the "Text" field.

OR: Enable the Flash wrapper, your current settings, and set the sizes, of course, use the full http path to your SWF, and clear the "Text" field.

In order to show banners you need to make template changes. There is also a movie in the very first post to show how and how not :)

It really depends on where you want to have your banners and then I'm not the right person to ask ... HTML is my nightmare :)

You can put the shortcodes using the Advertisement Manager inside Admincp.
There are ad locations that shows globally.
Like Below Navbar, Header 1, Header 2, Footer, etc..

Update#1: I use VBSEO when I disable it, all ads show up... how to get around this issue?

This is strange... nothing shows up!!!

I used the pre-installed google ads to test it, but none showed up!!

I tried it on different styles as well as the default style...

any idea what missing here?

Update#1: I use VBSEO when I disable it, all ads show up... how to get around this issue?

I can't think of anything other than possibly old cache stopping the new code from executing. I've personally had old cache be an issue when switching code related to this mod.

you mean browser old cache?? if so, I just cleared all cache and restarted things up, but still nothing works...

The weird issue as I mentioned before, that VBSEO is the cause of this yet I don't know if someone have had the same problem or not.

I don't understand how would this mod conflict with VBSEO anyways!!!

You will have to make a query and change the m_expired field to 0. This field indicates that an email was sent and if you want to reset this flag, you need to do it manually from phpmyadmin.

I'm not REAL good at this but have worked out some things.

You have to put your banner placeholders in the advertising templates in your admincp.

Styles and Templates/Edit Templates/Ad Location Templates/ad_global_below_navbar

I use this to centre the ads <div align="center"><!--@vbbanners:0@-->

Place your banner ads in "0" position.

since your vb version is that low, then I would suggest you install 2.3.4.rbs.zipversion first... if didn't work, install the higher one...

It does not depend on the vb version.

If you have a 5xx error, you will have to check your .htaccess rules first and eventually check also the logs for some hints about the error. There is nothing I can do, since 5xx errors are server related only.

will load the cvs01.swf file at the banner placeholder when inserted in the Text field.

The above quote belongs to old post and I just followed like above example in order to insert my swf flash banner in Text Box but NOT successful.....it just shows empty white space in the place of banner.

Not sure if anyone has had this problem come up, but some of my banners weren't showing up in Chrome. No problem with other browsers. Finally fixed it by changing the names of the files and getting rid of the underscore "_".

So a file named "banner_468" became "banner468". All works well, I believe.

Upon trying to install the product, I'm getting the following error:

I've triple-checked, all the files have been uploaded and seem to be in the correct location. Anything else I should try?

after trying a few combinations I am able to get it to partially appear but it is not interactive nor does not scale like it would if you go directly to it.

You should not unpack the upgrade on the server, because your root access is completely different from the apache/httpd/ftp user, but if you do, then you are assumed to know what you do. Rather than talking about an admincp replacement, you should say: merge. Attention has to be paid on certain ftp clients which say "replacement" (Windows).

As suggested elsewhere, the best solution is Filezilla or other another FTP client which uses the right terminology and functionality. I'm still not sure if native Windows does replace the folders or merge, but I have not to worry about it, because I do my FTP with more reliable tools.

The problems about flash have been talked a lot. With the wrapper it is not possible to fix broken flash banners. Unfortunately, there are still a lot of banner developers who do not set correctly the banner flags and thus we get ill-behaving banners. As a rule of thumb, if a plain banner does not execute correctly, then it will not work either embedded in the wrapper.

The only features you can change with the flash wrapper, are the way how the banner looks (resizing), and vary the landing page.

If you still have the problem, please PM me with an admin account for your forums and an FTP account in order to see what's going on. I am pretty sure that if the files are uploaded and visible to FTP, they should be also be available to the web server, but you never know :)

There should be somewhere OpenAds. However, I never got it working properly and therefore I made this plugin. All click trackers use some sort of scripting or wrapping, just look at the mess Google does :)

It appears to work almost everywhere ... except for headers so far. The forum's template does work, however I have no idea how to place the banner between forum sections, since those are composed by code. Maybe with some sort of counting for each forumbit.

I have installed this addon, but it has a time limit. So I have always to change the time, so that the banner does not disappear and the banner switch only if you go to another forum. The automatic does not work properly.

I've seen this done before, not sure if they were using Giovaqnni's mod in conjunction to accomplish it or not though... heck been a while I can't remember what I did on that forum either so if it comes back to me anytime soon I'll come back and post the point being the way Giovanni described it (template mod or similar) will suffice to accomplish what you want just needs some time into it is all ;).

Also I agree, this is a great mod I've recommended it to quite a few of my clients and they went with this free mod instead of paying for something - whatever can save time and money and yields the same results is always a good thing!

I have a simple problem that I have seen solved on here, but the solution is NOT working for my forum.

The header2 ad is going too high on the page and interfering with the login area.

I believe you want in-place rotating. There is something in the unsupported (addon) folder in the package, which would allow you to do this with some scripting (does not work out of the box). Please be aware that most banner providers (such as Google AdSense) will ban you if you use in-place banner rotating.

I added that to your site via firebug and it dropped the banner down as it should. Make sure you clear your browsers cache, and cookies, as well as flush any server side caching you may have like vBOptimise.

This should read:

unless of course you want to make a different use of it. The div is only necessary if you have custom styles for that area.

Then the plugin is disabled. If you can see the banner code, then the banner has moved out of the page or visible area.

In my HTML inspector, I see the banner code and the banner code seems ok, but I can't tell what all the Google code means. I suggest to go to Google Adsense and get the code and replace it. Coincidentally they may have changed something or for some reason, that channel has no banners (I can't tell). Putting there some code which works elsewhere is a good way to find out.

If you want to show banners in the 2 available spaces and a dynamic page width, you need also to use some CSS to position the banners well. With the standard inbuilt feature of the ad headers 1 and 2, I never got working a single one unless using a fixed page width ... but I fail to know HTML and CSS well enough. A good designer can do it :)

But...here is my confusion. Aren't they meant to be side by side in the regular template? Why is that not happening? I am sure I am doing something wrong. Is there some command I can add to the div command in VBadvertising or the Styles that does not move things down the page between the two ads?

I'm not a designer and all I know is my inability to work properly with CSS and HTML ... that much I have entirely given up and delegate all design to my favorite web master.

Thinking about the logic, I believe the given spaces work with images only, and fail to work properly with scripted ads, such as Google AdSense. As a permanent workaround I have decided to use only fixed width styles and then I use the following CSS, with some tweaking, in order to place AdSense where I wish:

I'm working at an alternate method, but essentially, in vbulletin 5 there are no software hooks to inject easily the required functionality, and since code is subject to changes, there is also no easy way to add this feature to the base code ... which however would have many more benefits. I'm not sure if to make this exception part of my career ;)

That depends on the size. A 468x60 banner may fit eventually, but older devices are smaller.

There is an unofficial add-on in the package, which may help you with this. However, most providers will not allow you to rotate their banners in-place.

There is no such limit. You can have as many slots as your server can hold, but of course there may be restrictions at that side.

Having said this, I'm sure you are overdoing. In my wildest dreams I could think about a usage of 8 slots :)

That happens with any mod. If you uninstall the product, it removes the tables it created, nothing crazy about that.

I agree 100%. Seems most folks way over think this great app. I find 99% of the time when it fails to work, it is due to something I goofed up. If you have a moderate familiarity of HTML this this gem becomes a powerhouse.

1.) My most common errors has to do with leaving out something in the code above.

2.) Next biggest error is the start and expire dates. If your dates are outside of the current date or wrong, nothing shows up.

3.) Next, I put the graphic banner in a separate directory and then make darn sure the software knows where to look. Example:

/sponsors/Joesgasstation/banner1.jpg
/sponsors/ajax/banner1.jpg

I find many inexperienced vb folks get confused over where the files are. So if this program can't find them, nothing shows up.

Perhaps when I get a chance I'll do a Dummies Guide RBS. It really is a simple program that even I way over thought in the beginning. Once I figured it out, I was banging my head on the wall over not being able to see the ease of use of this great little program.

It is a fantastic plug-in, and highly configurable.

I like that you can assign "run dates", provide stats, and can keep comments on each banner.

I've been using this for some time now and it's a great mod. I just installed it on another forum and have the same problem I had on the first one.

The only way I can get it to work is to actually edit the template to place the code in the hook location where I want it to show up. It works great that way.

If I try to add it to the VBulletin Advertising "New Banner", it never shows up.

If I try to edit templets and put it any ANY of the "Ad Location" templates, they don't show up.

The only way it works is if I edit the actual template, Header, Breadcrumb, etc. and place it directly in the template.

Can anybody tell me why?

It's pretty simple :)

You just put one small string of text where you want the banner(s) to appear.

I have a rotation of small ones in the header ad location 1, primary banners on top and bottom of each page, and a general banner every 5th post. (all are managed by this great tool)

It provides statistics for each banner, and a link someone can click remotely to check it in realtime.

Sounds like an issue with MySQL. Probably your server crashed and tables need a repair.

Additionally, your temporary disk space may be full and then you will have to reboot the server, plus doing some cleaning in order to free space.

You can do this only by using a query, like:
UPDATE rbs_banners SET clicks=0
Eventually you also need to clear the rbs_hits table with
TRUNCATE TABLE rbs_hits

If the banners are scripts, clicks are not counted, unless specifically crafted. Else, maybe the clicks option is disabled.

if mailing should be repeated, you will have to edit the banner from phpMyAdminI really don't have time to be going into phpmyadmin to reset the emailing for expired banners that are renewed.

Been using this for years, but only have one problem.

I get click though values when I'm running swf files, and this works fine.

However, some of my sponsors only have jpg images. I'm using the following code in the TEXT section:

The image shows fine, and also when you click on it, it goes to the desired target page.

Is there a way to get the counter to work when non swf files? Do I just need to change the html code for the image (and if so, can somebody give me an example)?

I have have the Click Tracking option set to Yes. I've also tried the other options (Flash Banner). This will then increase the counter correctly, but the JPG image does not show (obviously because I don't have the correct wrapper/code).

Really appreciate any help.

I don't use the text box for that type of image/link. I just enter the link into the "URL" box and the image location into the "Image / Flash" box. Then tracking works just fine.

I am testing this out and I created a Test1 and Test2 banner just for my user group so I am the only one that sees it. My goal is to have these rotate when the page is refreshed. I am looking for it to show Test1, Test2, Test1,Test2...etc when refreshing the page. Its not always doing that. Sometimes it will do things like this, Test1, Test1, Test1, Test2. It could be on my part with how I have it set.

I have both banners set to the same settings...

I see that as well, but it all seems to even out. If you flip a coin 10 times, you don't usually get 5 heads and 5 tails. I think it's something along those lines.

I'm also not sure if browser caching may be involved. Usually I try to click on different links each time to test it.

Hello team,
I would like to use this plugin to display various pictures on the header next to our logo. There is no advertising included, no links or clicking counters, plain and simple, I just want to rotate an X amount of pictures. What I am using right now works fine, just load all the pictures to a specific folder where you load the php files and you are done... however, it does change only on reload and cache can also have a negative impact.
I am reading the instructions but I dont think I get the way this could be implemented on this plugin, can anyone help me? installing the plugin should not be a problem but I havent yet until I can get an idea on how to configure this the way I want it.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Oh, it dont serves my purpose then. I already have a simple php script that does the picture change on each reload. That php is in a folder and whatever picture I put in that folder is added to the rotation. Very easy to add or remove a picture from the rotation.

I dont think a gif will be a good option for me, there could be as much as 20 good quality pictures and if I want to add anything (these are outdoorsy pictures from members so it will change monthly) I will have to redo the gif.

Currently there is no way to track clicks from scripts, unless they are specifically crafted and contain thus a notification link to the banner itself. With AdSense, there is no way to inject such code, because it comes dynamically from a wide number of publishers and have all a very different syntax.

I eventually will address this problem (along with others) with the new stand-alone application, which is currently under development, because then everything will be in one place and can be thoroughly tested. For some systems however there may be no solution, because Google does not allow to tamper with the banner code.

The likeliness does influence how often a coin flip falls on one side. Normally you will leave it at 100, because you want to give all banners an even chance.

How the chance is taken depends also on server side caches and browser settings. In normal case applications, a banner changes every time a page reloads, but if you just have 2 banners for one space, it may seem there is nothing or little happening. Over time you'll see that the impression counter evens out between the available banners.

I managed to stop the image overlap, However a third image (I only have 3 banners at the moment total) shows up just under the forum home link. I don't want one there and not sure why it shows up there.

If you have 3 banners for 2 locations they are likely not rotating a lot (there is a 2/3 chance they would rotate, or, 2 times of 3 they won't). But in the ACP listing you will sse that over time, the impression rate equals between banners.

I fixed the overlap. I have 2 banner positions stacked in the global header right side. But the banners are rotating in a 3rd location as well that I did not set up to do. (I now have 10 banners to rotate for the stacked positions).. This location is on the upper left side of all pages below the navigation bar. Is that the normal 0 position? If so, where might I comment that out in styles?

The banners rotate only where you have setup them previously ... there is no magic location of its own. The mechanism is to use a placeholder where to show a banner, stop :)

Also, there is no normal position, for exacly the same reason. You and only you are deciding where to show banners ...

Short answer: no
Long answer: If you have pages which are shown only to certain countries, you can show also banners only for those pages. But it depends on your page settings, not the banners themselves.

You would normally do this at the server side with GeoIP and/or browser User Agent/Language detection. Eventually you would split then the forum into language or country dependent subdomains which however refer to the same installation, for efficiency. And then you would address one or more categories which are normally hidden, respectively for the language dependent pages. It sounds difficult, but is pretty easy to achieve

As discussed earlier in this thread, Google counts hits only approximately and hits above 1000 per hour are eventually ignored. Also, devices which do not handle Javascript, such as spiders, some tablets and text-only browsers are not counted by Google.

Yes. You can solve this problem by selecting all forums but the one to be excluded for position 2, just the one forum for position 3.

Ok - this has to be done for each individual banner in the Position 2 pool. There is no way to do this through "Manage Ads" under the Advertising tab in vBulleitn?

It seem this script may have been hacked.

Maybe it's not this script, but something else? In any case, there is a script injected into my template in the code where RBS is supposed to be. This screenshot shows a bad script in my template where it was never supposed to be. I deleted RBS and all its files.

To anybody else with RBS, please check the template location, and also check page source for the phrase "lovehouse" to confirm. Maybe it was just me, or maybe the hack was injected through some other means, I just don't know.
