Log on with your FTP program, navigate to the folder described in the error message you posted, and download the file somewhere to your computer.
Then open it in a program that shows line numbers, and find line 87, then paste it here.

Is it possible for me to receive an FTP account and an account with full AdminCP access?
I can't seem to immediately solve this problem without said access.

Hi
Thanks for the awesome mod!

I am having a problem. The drop-down menu's at the bottom of the chatbox are not working. They get cut off by the border of the chatbox frame. This affects all the drop down menus at the bottom. I have included an image of my problem

Our website: http://www.royalbritishcommandos.co.uk/forum/forum.php

Please reply.

That's very peculiar, I haven't seen that happen anywhere else.
I registered to your forum, and it seems that even the font name isn't being written properly.

Have you customised the CSS for those dropdowns?

adamdavidconn
05-05-2010, 07:38 PM
I have not as far as I know. This once affected a past mod, but I uninstalled that one a while ago, so It may not be a result of your mod. Would reverting some of the css work?

adamdavidconn

ahh, Ive managed to fix it. There was an old plugin I had, which added some javascript effects. Turning it off fixed it. Sorry for the inconvinience.

I too am having sound problems - Quicktime plugin is installed, sounds are selected / enabled through the admin control panel settings - the embed appears on the page :

<embed id="dbtech_vbshout_sound_shout_1" autostart="false" volume="0" src="dbtech/vbshout/sounds/pop.mp3" width="1" height="1"></embed>
<embed id="dbtech_vbshout_sound_invite_1" autostart="false" volume="0" src="dbtech/vbshout/sounds/pop.mp3" width="1" height="1"></embed>
<embed id="dbtech_vbshout_sound_pm_1" autostart="false" volume="0" src="dbtech/vbshout/sounds/pop.mp3" width="1" height="1"></embed>

Yet still no sound. Tried on Firefox, also tried on Chrome - any ideas?

Thanks

I don't know if this is related, but I can't seem to enable the Shout sounds on a per-user basis - i.e. click the shoutbox title just drops down "Archive" - options is not listed...

UPDATE
it appears as though the sound does work for some users, which is strange as there seems to be no consistency as to what OS/Browser/QUicktime version it works for ...

DragonByte Tech

Seems like it was a browser issue, some had it working but others didn't.

Maybe Mac builds of Firefox + QuickTime isn't playing nice - any other Mac users care to confirm / deny?

Haha nope, This was the update cycle for vBShout (which worked out roughly a version each week for 3 weeks) The cycle is complete now =)

Enjoy this version, it'll be the last significant update for a few months ^.^

Thanks. ;) Already felt like not in the loop anymore. :D

Its a hell of a great Shoutbox, I really like it. One thing I wonder is why isn't it, without using BB Code, that when I change the font color, all that I wrote in my Shoutbox turns into that color. That doesn't make sense.

Usually its like that when I change the color for a shout, it only effects this particular shout, and not all the other comments I made before, at least in my personal view of the Shoutbox. Any chance that could be changed ?

Usually its like that when I change the color for a shout, it only effects this particular shout, and not all the other comments I made before, at least in my personal view of the Shoutbox. Any chance that could be changed ?It's intended to change the colour of every shout, because that's a way for you to preview your colour changes without needing to spam up the Shoutbox with "testing colour change" ;)

And I wonder the same btw. Having a dark forum and that gigantic white field just doesn't fit. :)stylevar control_focus.

tlwwolfseye
05-10-2010, 12:49 PM
stylevar control_focus.

I only have "control_focus_background" and that shows a different color, in fact if it would be that color it would fit the rest of my forum. But instead that background is just white.

When I click into the Shoutbox, then I get the color set in "control_focus_background". But I want the field to have a different background color even before I click into it. Any ideas ?

It probably wouldn't be such a big problem if the textfield would be, like with almost any shoutbox, just a few pixels high. But here its huge compared to others, then the white background in a dark board becomes a problem with the looks.

DragonByte Tech
05-10-2010, 12:52 PM
Oh sorry, I'm an idiot.
The correct stylevar is control_background.

Thanks but...

http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/9828/stylevar.th.jpg (http://img265.imageshack.us/i/stylevar.jpg/)
http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/9828/stylevar.jpg

As you can see, in "control_background" a background color & image is already chosen by the theme. But still, the background in that window stays white.

http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/7660/stylevar2.th.jpg (http://img101.imageshack.us/i/stylevar2.jpg/)
http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/7660/stylevar2.jpg

And its not because the background color or image ain't working, for some reason that happens only in your shoutbox.

Any ideas ?

P.S: Sorry for bothering you with this. ;)

DragonByte Tech
05-10-2010, 03:21 PM
Okay, I should stop talking without doing research.
It seems it's the input_background stylevar you need to modify.
If this doesn't work either, check the following CSS attribute in vbulletin-formcontrols.css:
.textbox,
textarea,
select {

Sorry about so many false answers :(

Hmm, thanks found it but though I changed it in the Stylevars, it won't change.
I tried to do it manually in the FTP with the .css file but I couldn't save the changes. Permission denied for those files. Tried to change the chmod settings, that wasn't permitted either.

Why is vB not letting me change those ?

Doesn't seem to be related to vBShout specifically, but something gone wrong with your vB install...

First...Let me state my apologies for posting this in the incorrect thread previously. Hopefully, VB or someone can delete it.

Secondly...thank you, Fillip, for such a quick response.

The items in Italics were transferred from the incorrect thread post to this one. I have also put my Updates to each item here.

I do have a two-fold final question for now (since I don't think there is an easy/no-cost fix to my notices not displaying issue)... Will user avatars ever be available?

This is in the new "Notifications" menu entry in the vBShout entry in the AdminCP nav

Update from Alisa: I found that and also found that it is not working due to a custom mod I have installed that I cannot give up. :( So, we will have to live without the notices in the Shoutbox. RESOLVED.

To do that, you'd need to customise the HTML of the shoutbox quite a lot.

Update from Alisa: I will consider that if our membership grows once we go live.

Have you installed the quicktime plugin & Enabled shout sounds in the ACP?

Are other users on your site able to hear it? If they are it is likely a browser/Plugin issue. If not, it's likely a settings issue =)

Are you trying to invite someone to the main shoutbox, or to a room created via the ACP? If so, thats the reason. You can only invite people to personal chatrooms created via the shoutbox. (This is because ACP created chatrooms are intended for specific usergroups - not specific users)

To position the Shoutbox differently from the pre-defined positions, you need to use the Manual Deployment feature.

Set the Auto Display to Disabled for the instance you want to manually display, then follow the other instructions on the explanatory text :)

You would need to change the permissions of your default Registered Users group to not be able to shout, and then create a new usergroup that CAN shout, and then use vBulletin's Promotions system to auto-promote users to this new usergroup upon reaching 25 posts :)

Hope that helps :)

Type only the script name, for instance
index
to have it on forum home, or
vbcms
to have it on the front page.

Then type in the template name, again
FORUMHOME
to have it on forum home, or
vbcms_page
to have it on the front page.

Then add the variable as instructed to the template you put in there, and it's done :)

Thats right, requires quicktime plugin. Does it work for any of your users? If not, can you recheck your settings and make sure you have sounds turned on in the ACP?

Cheers ^.^

vBShout v5.2.3 has been released, which fixes a potential problem with shout notifications, and also adds a new feature: Blog Integration!
The Shoutbox will now post notifications when a new public blog is written, and when a new public blog comment is written.

We hope you enjoy this small feature update :)

Oh, and the Shoutbox option in the UserCP settings does nothing??? Using v4.02.

Installed and working fine, is there any way of reducing the width of the shoutbox and shout input area?You can edit the templates or CSS yourself, but this is not something we support, so you'll be on your own ;)
Pro version allows you and your members to choose the shout area location themselves, above/below shoutbox means the "strip" :)

Oh, and the Shoutbox option in the UserCP settings does nothing??? Using v4.02.Yeah, the subitems had to be removed for v5 because of instances; if we find anything else to put there we'll be sure to add it in.

How can I shrink the SB so that the 'active users' box isn't cut off?

Other than that, I have no issues. This SB is the best that I have found so far. :)

Would it be hard to make it so that whoever prunes the SB, for their name to be displayed?

Example: [Today 08:31 AM] SYSTEM: The Shoutbox has just been pruned by USERNAME!This requires file edits, we originally opted out of using the username in system messages in order to avoid staff drama.
You can still see who did it in the AdminCP's command log, though.

I just updated the zip with fixes for two small issues:
1. Styles using the headinclude_bottom template would not see those customisations on vBShout pages like the Archive.
2. Forums who use the Shoutbox on ALL pages would no longer be able to manage attachments.

If any of those issues affect you, please re-download the zip, re-upload all files and re-import the XML file.

Hi,

yesterday I installed the shoutbox, and I'm only able to display it at 'After Navbar'. It disappears on 'above footer' and I'm not able to display it by adding {$vbshout} to a template.

I'm using vb 3.7.4 (I know not the newest Version, but it workes well, and I hoped the addon would tell me if it is not compatible). So I created a new php (depending on this forum) with its own template to keep things simple and added the template-name into 'Templates'.

Same behavior, only displaying on 'after Navbar'.
Is the shoutbox not compatible with 3.7.4 or do I make something completely wrong?

Sorry, if my English isn't the best, I'm from Germany

Regards
Herbert

Here the whole template:
$stylevar[htmldoctype]
<html dir="$stylevar[textdirection]" lang="$stylevar[languagecode]">
<head>
<title>$vboptions[bbtitle]</title>
$headinclude
</head>
<body>
$header

$navbar
<table class="tborder" cellpadding="$stylevar[cellpadding]" cellspacing="$stylevar[cellspacing]" border="0" width="100%" align="center">
<tr>
<td class="tcat">WoodCNC Chatecke</td>
</tr>
<tr>

Herbert To activate manual display, you need to set auto deployment to Disabled and add the script name of your custom php file into the relevant setting.

It's possible that 3.7 is lacking the template hook for Above Footer, I couldn't say.

Thanks for the quick reply !

Now a second question. After adding an additional room it appears right from Active Users and unhandeled Reports.

something like that:
shoutbox | Active Users | Unhandled Reports | additional room

wouldn't it be better to group the rooms like that:
shoutbox | additional room |....| Active Users | Unhandled Reports |

Hi,

when a template is calling the shoutbox, is it possible to overwrite $vboptions[dbtech_vbshout_height] temporally witch defines the height of the shoutbox. That should do the trick.

another issue, when I'm in a room created by a user and get removed from the access-list. I'm falling out off the room and seem to be in the main shoutbox, but the post are not updated and I'm not able to post anymore. I have to refresch the page or change to a room diffrent to 'shoutbox'

You can disable it by disabling the Plugin called "New Blog Comment - Add Notification".

1. How do i hide the shoutbox from unregistered / not logged in users please ? Instance Management -> Edit Permissions -> uncheck the Can View Shoutbox checkbox for Unregistered /... users.

2. How do i change the location from top/below control panel to lets say some ections lower,e.g. under my forum content?Instance Management -> Edit -> Either pick the Above Footer display option, or follow the directions there to manually put your shoutbox in a template.

No that's not possible, and frankly it's not intended. Viewing the Shoutbox just means they are active on the page the Shoutbox is loaded at, whereas when they are shouting, they are actually active in the shoutbox.

Well I asked someone else who fixed it and he said that it was because of this mod:

You have to disable that mod, so that the drop down boxes don't get cut off. I suggest you write a special note in your first post noting that that mod has a conflict.

DragonByte Tech

vBCMS? If so, you just need to add vbcms to the scripts to run.

If you mean vBAdvanced then we do not support this (3rd party addon) but there's tutorials on the vBAdvanced forums.

My members are having a problem with the shoutbox as they say it just gets stuck on the message Loading and the shoutbox never loads.

Is there a fix for this?

DragonByte Tech

Check the error console in Firefox and see what it tells you, there's most likely a JS error.

In that case, please switch automatic display mode off, add the footer template to the relevant setting and follow the instructions on screen to add the shoutbox manually to the footer template where you want it added.

Hi one request:

can you make the vbulletin auto-resize feature apply to smileys? because we have smileys which are too big to use for the shoubox (takes too much space).

second:

I think the custom bbcode permission is broken... because I removed it and my members can still use it.

Try looking under CSS Templates in the Style Manager :)

The Text Entry Area is StyleVar input_background.
The Main Shout Area is StyleVar postbit_background

Hope that helps :)

hello, I'm trying to set up the shoutbox on its own page i've got the template set up
like this and a php file called Chat.php even after setting the shoutbox to deploy in Chat.php it doesn't show up
chat.php
<?php

// ####################### SET PHP ENVIRONMENT ###########################
error_reporting(E_ALL & ~E_NOTICE);

// #################### DEFINE IMPORTANT CONSTANTS #######################

define('THIS_SCRIPT', 'test');
define('CSRF_PROTECTION', true);
// change this depending on your filename

// ################### PRE-CACHE TEMPLATES AND DATA ######################
// get special phrase groups
$phrasegroups = array();

// get special data templates from the datastore
$specialtemplates = array();

// pre-cache templates used by all actions
$globaltemplates = array('Chat',
);

// pre-cache templates used by specific actions
$actiontemplates = array();

// ######################### REQUIRE BACK-END ############################
// if your page is outside of your normal vb forums directory, you should change directories by uncommenting the next line
// chdir ('/path/to/your/forums');
require_once('./global.php');

// ################################################## #####################
// ######################## START MAIN SCRIPT ############################
// ################################################## #####################

$navbits = construct_navbits(array('' => 'Chat Box'));
$navbar = render_navbar_template($navbits);

// ###### YOUR CUSTOM CODE GOES HERE #####
$pagetitle = 'The Chat Box';

// ###### NOW YOUR TEMPLATE IS BEING RENDERED ######

$templater = vB_Template::create('Chat');
$templater->register_page_templates();
$templater->register('navbar', $navbar);
$templater->register('pagetitle', $pagetitle);
print_output($templater->render());

?>
template
{vb:stylevar htmldoctype}
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" dir="{vb:stylevar textdirection}" lang="{vb:stylevar languagecode}" id="vbulletin_html">
<head>
<title>{vb:raw vboptions.bbtitle} - {vb:raw pagetitle}</title>

DragonByte Tech

Since the value of THIS_SCRIPT in your case is "test", this is what you need to set it to deploy on, not "chat.php".

DragonByte Tech

It's really not designed for the sidebar - it requires more width than that ;)

Fillip

Winter Sonata
06-27-2010, 10:05 PM
Actually , your mod is great even if it is not design for the sidebar, but my idea is that being under the navbar will take so much space while webmaster can use it for advertisers banners

Hope we can see a sidebar version asap, that would be really great even if it is a commercial version ;)

DragonByte Tech
06-27-2010, 10:12 PM
You could try placing it above the footer, there's an app for that... eh I mean there's a setting for that ;)
Instance Management -> Edit -> Automatic Deployment to Above Footer.

I doubt there will be a sidebar version, considering it would mean a vastly different layout... Never say never, though ;)

Hi Fillip & Ian

I found that a lot of the problems that I'm having are due to complex colour schemes in themes. I have settled on a simpler theme. However, the Text Entry area is white, while the shout view area is black, since it is a WYSIWYG editor, people are going to have white/bright fonts for their shouts, but aren't going to be able to see what they are typing, unlike in the Post Editor, which is not no-one uses as WYSIWYG.

Could you please leave step by step to make the change to change the colour of the text entry area to the same as the Shout View area please.

Our site (http://www.dbc-forum.net) launches at 6pm(GMT) this afternoon!

DragonByte Tech
06-28-2010, 12:03 PM
The Text Entry Area is controlled by the StyleVar input_background.
The Shout View area is controlled by the StyleVar postbit_background

To have them identical, you would need to change the background colour of input_background to match that of postbit_background.

Hello i love this product/modification but want to share the issue you have in this modification.

I have around 20k users on my forum ..and the shoutbox is taking high load and due to that my vps server was suspended multiple times in past couple months .. and then i thought due to vps shared by 3 people it is causing .. so i upgraded to dedicated server and still the same ..

I request you to do something about it .. i dont know what you can or you will but make it like it was for vb3 version of infernoshoutbox .. coz i never had any issue with inferno shoutbox ..

High load due to ajax.php file .. just in case if you wanna know what file is causing the high load ..

DragonByte Tech
06-29-2010, 05:11 PM
Your version is highly out of date though, according to vB.org you're running 4.5.1 whereas 5.2.3 is the latest.

But yeah, we're aware of load issues and it will be addressed in the next version :)

yeah i know its outdated .. but i know few other forums using the latest but they still have the same issue .. i just wanted to point out the issue to figure out what was wrong ..

It's sadly impossible for me to promise it will be fixed, because by definition an AJAX-based shoutbox is going to increase load, but I have one of the best vBulletin optimisers (Deceptor, creator of the vBOptimise mod) working with me to implement as many techniques as we can think of within the allotted timeframe :)

It will hopefully be released Friday 9th July :)

can you by any chance ellaborate on that?The menu in the AdminCP is controlled by administrator permissions.

If you do not grant yourself the permission "Can Administer vBShout" you will be unable to access the menu. This is for security reasons, in case you don't want certain admins to administer the Shoutbox.

If you perform the config.php edit as detailed in the post Winter Sonata linked to (thanks :D), you will override the permissions check and enable you to see the vBShout menu item without needing to be granted the aforementioned permission :)

Really like the apps tho, i think that you guys should make your own stylevars for us to playwith ! I have totally changed my templates for my site and i can't start to replace some backgrounds only for the shoutbox :(
Missing a bit on this side maybe but in general, fantastic work! Might go for PRO version soon ;)
Also, i think the write area should have the possibility to be place either on top or on the bottom part of the box and that the active users side container should also be on a drop down tab system therefor giving more space to the text window !
Thanks ;)

We cannot make our own stylevars as that would mean it only looks good on the default skin, and we get drenched in support requests.
