2. Go to vba CMPS and add a module [Template Module]
Fill title field what ever you want.
in Template to include type shout ( you will see this then : adv_portal_shout(you fill this)
Now paste this to the Template Content

Set your desired Permissions and Save it. Then add this module to your desired page, which i have added to home page.

Then scroll down until you see date. You will keep getting this error to do with the date until you put this fix in place

first off i would like to say great mod!

i had it working fine on my site with no issues but I recently moved to a new host and now find myself with an issues. hopefully its simple to resolve but Ill let you be the judge of that.

the shoutbox works fine when using a http url to access my forum but when a https url is used the chatbox is stuck on Loading with no apparent error messages. it was working previously on the old host via http and https but not on the new host.

any assistance is greatly appreciated!

I'm sorry to quote a 3 years old post, but i'm having a similar issue. I'm trying to migrate my forums from HTTP to HTTPS.
Currently i run on both (HTTPS is testing for now)
On HTTPS I am having the issues reported in the quote. Even when i "disable" HTTP (rewrite rule to HTTPS) it doesn't work.
However when I test on IE and press "show all content" it does seem to work. Are there any calls to non https locations in this mod that cause the issue?

Sorry, i found the problem. I have the PRO version which allowed the option for minimum posts. It was set to 15, that's why new members could not see the shoutbox.

If you read instructions received with vBshout mod, you'll find this pretty explaining instructions:

I have purchased the PRO version and need clarification on the PM notification.

When someone sends a PM, the notification is made on the main shoutbox. However, a tab does not appear unless you click on the username and select Send Private Message to that user. Only then a new tab will appear of the PM conversation. Is there any way where a PM tab is created automatically when a user sends a PM?

Our shoutbox in on a vBulletin board. But our BBS is part of a large sports site. We had to put the two sites on different servers to handle the load. I think I got this figured out with you and and another guys help on the anchor question on the main vb4 forum.

I know that individual ALTER TABLE statements provide atomicity, but geez, I have 300.000+ users and I've spent hours trying to install this mod. Everytime it crashes I import it again, and it gets me a bit further... but whenever I think I'm done, another ALTER TABLE vb_user comes in the way.

Oh, there's been a misunderstanding. I thought the default procedure for adding the shoutbox was to manually activate it on a per-forum basis.

It turns out the shoutbox was in my forumhome all along. It's just that I couldn't see it, because the .collapse style was set to display:none;

Well I figured it out on my own. When I updated to the latest VB4 PLxxx It broke compatibility with the theme I was using. So I had to completely remove then re-install and set perms. After that all is well!

Maybe this will help someone else out there trying to figure out what went wrong on there last VB Update.

Since I upgraded to the latest version, every time a user posts, it shows the last "so and so has hit x number of threads or x number of posts" notification in the box and it keeps doing it every time like something got stuck.

It would be cool if the free version could let you turn those notifications off as cool as they are, something seems to be buggy about it.

edit: I went back and these notifications are actually called "Milestones". My apologies for not having the paid version, I'm tapped out at the moment.

So I went through and switched and switched my usergroups to "is master of shoutbox" then I switched back and it seemed to have jogged it out of the weird repeating milestone thing.

To make it bigger go to admincp/DBTech - vBShout/Instance Management edit instance1 scroll down until you see the correct options for Shoutbox Height. To the tab on the navbar really no need for it as the shoutbox is on the forum page and can be seen for the groups that you give permissions to see it so no reason to have the tab

Step 1: AdminCP -> DBTech - vBShout-> Instance Management -> [Edit].

Step 2: Change the Auto-Display Shoutbox setting to Disabled.

Step 3: Write down the the Varname setting. For the default shoutbox, it's instance1. The rest of this guide will assume you replace instance1 with the actual Varname if it is different.

Step 4: Enter the Style Manager and add either {vb:raw show.vbshout_instance1} (vB4) or {$show[vbshout_instance1]} (vB3) to the templates you wish the shoutbox to appear in.


Follow these steps as described and you will have total control over the position of the Shoutbox.
Please note that some locations may not work as intended on vBulletin 3.8, and also note that it is not designed to go in the Forum Blocks side-bar (vBulletin 4).

It's setting on global level, AFAIK.

You need to choose how time is shown in your posts. Same format will apply to vBShout too.

To fix an issue @ DBTech: Fix file, commit changes to source control system (SVN), tell SVN to push changes to release. Done.
To fix an issue @ vB.org: All of the above, download Lite version, open vB.org, find thread(s), edit thread, remove attachment, upload new attachment, save. Done.

As you can tell, there's around twice as many steps. Of course, there are measures I could take to make this process easier. I could create some form of "release builder" that would automatically prepare a Lite version and allow me to upload it quickly.

That being said, there's also the fact that over @ our site, we've built ourselves a community of people who are quick to jump on new versions of our software, and will report issues in a clear and concise manner with all required information.

In other words, it's the difference between someone saying "hey I installed the new version and now it doesn't work!" and someone saying "hey I installed the new version, and I now receive the following error message: <some error here> when trying to access <some page>"

To be absolutely clear, I'm not saying that Person A is "bad" or "wrong" in any way. Their report just doesn't contain all the information I need in order to fix it quickly and efficiently. If their timezone differs from mine, it might take 18-24 hours before I can address their issue to everyone's satisfaction.

The "regulars" over @ DBTech know by now how I like my bug reports, and as such they deliver them to me in ways that allow me to fix the issue pretty much as soon as I see the report notification.

This leads me on to my next point; vBulletin.org's notification system for thread replies is not brilliant.
If I don't visit a thread in question, I don't receive notification of future replies to the thread until I visit the thread.
If two people post new support tickets @ DBTech, I receive notification of both.

All of this put together is the reason why I chose to wait a week. Hopefully it makes more sense to you now :)

There is more important features missed in this product

Is to allow to shout not only by groups but also after reach a specific number of posts / threads and it will be good also if there is option for "X" days after registeration date

Because I want to make our members can shout but only restricted to high posts members only to avoid spam and abuse

At the moment you could control this by creating "rookie" usergroup and continue using "normal" registred user usergroup. With promotions system built in vB you control parameters when users become "normal" registered users with all privileges you want them to have. And of course, you can disable all privileges you want disabled for "rookie" users.

I wish the speed issue will be addressed when it is used together with Advanced User Tagging. Tagging notifications fill up the shout table which makes it very slow over time as they are not automatically pruned together with the shouts.

I've installed the chat a year ago and now I would like to upgrade it (from 6.2.3 version).
I've downloaded the new files and uploaded to the forum directory as your readme file said.
But, now, when I import the xml file from the admin control panel I get the following error:

After some testing I found:

The text-style controls disappear after allowing desktop notifications & dbtech_vbshout_settings gets set to 1048576 for the userid in the user database.

I can set it manually back to 4095 (the original value for my userid), and they are visible again on page refresh.

Hmm something with vbshout_settings 1048576... ?

I think it is a plugin clash. the $instance seems to be set incorrectly when the templates are parsed

I'm guessing our issue is just a bug with latest update, which included the desktop notifications.

I was able to 'fix' by uninstalling, and also dropping the persisting columns prefixed with 'dbtech_vbshout' from the vbulletin 'user' table, before reinstalling a modified version without desktop notifications.

I am sure this is unsupported by the dev and they will release a fix in the near future. I'm just not patient :)

Sure would be nice to have those desktop notifications though!

I am having the same issue as they are. They were there when I installed the add-on, and disappeared within an hour of performance.

I'm contacting my host regarding this:


You appear to have PHP 5.3.9 or higher installed on your server and configured to be too restrictive for vBulletin and vBShout to work correctly.

Please note that if you have a large number of usergroups, certain parts of this page may not work as intended.

If you encounter this issue, you may be able to work around this by adding the following code to your .htaccess file:

php_value max_input_vars 10000

or altering your php.ini file to increase max_input_vars to 10000.

Edit: Host resolved that for me. Now to wait and see if the formatting options reappear.

Do I need to reinstall & reupload myself, or did you do it yourself while you were checking it out?

Also, there have been some new bugs that came up after your fix.

They are:

- when I type a message on the shoutbox, it appears blank for a few seconds and then appears.

- When we go into threads we get the following new error (which was not present before this fix):
Warning: preg_replace(): The /e modifier is deprecated, use preg_replace_callback instead in ..../includes/class_bbcode.php on line 2958

- Now no one can edit their posts anymore (gets stuck on loading when I press edit)

Please assist.

Unfortunately not, it's required for installation. Please make sure you have uploaded the contents of the upload folder (and not the upload folder itself) to your forum folder, which appears to be forums.

In that case it may be an issue with file permissions, I notice the various files have different file permissions.

The file needs to be readable by PHP in order to work.

Same as you did when installing it; upload all files, import product XML file with Overwrite set to On :)

If there are any special upgrade instructions, there will be a new .txt file in the download with the special instructions - so always check for any new readme.txt files :)
