Smilie Box seems to have a bug in it. It is really long and the scroll bar is way down halfway and displays only a few smilies.

Good chat box. My members really enjoy this chat box. The only thing wrong with it is obviously that alignment issue. It gets pretty annoying when you see people type on the chat box with long names and it almost looks as if their name is over lapping their message.

Much better than that GCBOS or whatever that laggy chatbox is called. Lagged my server like hell with like 60+ users online, poor Dedicated Server.

Only thing im recommending is:

1) Can you add a function to MSG people privately on the chat, Basically the ability to only send a msg to that person (by clickong in their name or using like /pm <username> hi)

1.2: Additionally some functions like /mute <username>, /unmute <username>, etc would be nice

2) When I had a notice up, the chatbox was above the notice, and it looked weird. how do i fix this placement

Really love this mod.

I'm curious if anyone else is still having issues with the Expand/Collapse button disappearing you collapse and refresh? I've noticed it actually loads the correct one, then changes it immediately to: ".../images/buttons/collapse_collapsed_40b_collapsed.png" and if you re-expand it loads the the collapsed image instead of the expanded one.

Also is there any way to reduce the extra padding under the ChatBox when expanded? It about doubles from when collapsed on my site.

I'm having the same alignment issues where the username does not align with the inputed text for that person.

Edit:
Apparently, the alignment issue only happens when there are smilies in the text. Otherwise, it comes out fine. If the smilies were bottom-aligned I think everything would be fine.

after install i noticed this IE error when I first go to the site i get this attached error.
Chatbox is empty and showing "Loading".
In firefox it shows loading as well, but not the error.

Installed, was a snap.

However I have encounterd some issues. The big one right now is the colors. How do i get the default white to return?

I was testing the different colors on my forum and noticed they would remain in the type box. So users with lighter colors could not see what they where typing.

Anyway if I choose the white color I cannot see what I am typing in the box, but it shows up in the chat just fine. By default I could see what I was typing in the box and it would come out in the chat as white.

So how can i fix this?

can you add the option via acp to disable ALL the BB code(except color, bold, italic and underline)?
Disabling manually all the BB codes is very silly..

On my 4.0.1 I tested this chat on all browsers(also mac systems with safari) and I found 0(z-e-r-o) problems, no bugs and a very small server load.

What I am trying to do is change the text input background from white to something else. The reason being is on a dark forum, you need light text. However with a white background input box, it is hard to read the light text.

Another option would be to just make it so that the input box is always black text on white background and the colors only appear in the window. I think that is kind of limiting though.

So anyone know where I change the background box color?

there is no blockhead.css that I can find. Most likely this is just class within one of the css files. The question is which one since searching for blockhead brings up many.

To each their own! Perhaps Valter can add an input field in ACP for optional text that goes between the name and the message. Just my $.02.

Someone sent me a private message on how to change the bg color of the input box, so I'll just say it here.
Replacing
color:{vb:raw vsacb_colorfirst}"
with
color:{vb:raw vsacb_colorfirst};background-color:#fff"
in the vsa_chatbox_input template will make it white (as you can see by the #fff). Just change the hex code to whatever color you wish. Be careful in the color you choose though because the color of the text is variable depending on what color you're typing in. You can make that static though by changing the variable which is right before this text under "color:".

it was my pc because i've tried form an other pc and all was ok.
Said that today i see with pleasure that there is an update but i do not know what does it mean revert the template to install the update.
In thepast when i update a product is only necessary to import the new .xml file and stop.
In this produvt there's to do other operations? if someone can say better to me what is revert the template i'm happy.
perhaps it means that i must leave the code that i past in forumhome and AFTER i must REpast in template? i'm trying to understand what can be.

When any AJAX based chatbox is enabled on your forums, there are a lot of requests sent to the server, which means server load is increased. All users who can see the chatbox executes database queries, in order to view new messages without refreshing. This is where log-out is important. If user is not active then system will stop refreshing for them. Someone may opened your forum and leaved their computer for hours, but chatbox still refreshes. Not anymore. Log-in to continue refreshing, log-out to stop eating resources.

I guess you have some server related problem.

the latest update has messed up the default text colour, for writing and posting.

Needs to be black when typing and white when posted, did this before but does not want to do it now, you have to select the colour you want to type but then you cant see it when typing?

But you must learn about templates because you'll need to revert ALL of yours every time you do a vbulletin update. The manual is still useful: http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/stylemanager_edit_templates

The smileys are the ones you have installed via AdminCP>Smilies. I'm not sure what the 'Random Smilies" option is, I guess it mixes your smileys up. Experiment and let us know.

I really appreciate your putting these instructions out here, PrinceEdward. Unfortunately, these instructions do not work, and sometimes result in having the chatbox not work entirely.

The best solution would be to have a widget that could be installed normally like any other in the CMS. I've tried several ways to do this with no success. If someone knows how or could figure it out, that would be very helpful.

If you deactivate the position of chat and put the code at the top of template navbar you will have the chatbox in all the site.

Fantastic modification Valter, I have been waiting for this since the release of vB4. I have a few requests though:

1. Could you also add an option to put a postfix on the username? For example, "Sangheili: Message", ':' being the postfix. It looks a lot better and easier to read.
2. And I agree with princeedward, the large spaces either side of the smilies image are a little odd.
3. Ability to double click messages and edit them, like with thread titles. The chatbox is very user friendly however not very moderator friedly, having to go into the archive every time you want to edit/delete a message is quite annoying.

Ok I "fixed" it with a patch on the template, just it don't show the edit's buttons, vsa-chatbox need a real fix to prevent a JavaScript and vsa-chatbox's code injection about edit.

To patch it you must:

These errors can be fixed by opening VSa_CB.xml and replace all instances of split() with explode().

Also find: $vsacb_bbparser =& new vB_BbCodeParser($vbulletin, fetch_tag_list());
and remove the & so it looks like: $vsacb_bbparser = new vB_BbCodeParser($vbulletin, fetch_tag_list());

That should fix all problems.. coder please update your mod with these changes..

I also have a suggestion to minimize the impact on the server by reducing the queries.
You should let the shoutbox write a timestamp when there are new shouts and on refresh first check the timestamp if a refresh is needed, if there's no change in timestamp there's no need to query the database for new messages..

These errors can be fixed by opening VSa_CB.xml and replace all instances of split() with explode().

Also find: $vsacb_bbparser =& new vB_BbCodeParser($vbulletin, fetch_tag_list());
and remove the & so it looks like: $vsacb_bbparser = new vB_BbCodeParser($vbulletin, fetch_tag_list());

That should fix all problems.. coder please update your mod with these changes..

I also have a suggestion to minimize the impact on the server by reducing the queries.
You should let the shoutbox write a timestamp when there are new shouts and on refresh first check the timestamp if a refresh is needed, if there's no change in timestamp there's no need to query the database for new messages..

Agree, /notice would be nice, as would the ability to change the name from Options rather than have to do it via phrases. But it's not hard to do and you really only need to do it once.
When you set it in AdminCP you'll lose ability to translate into other languages.

Changing in Phrases is also something you'll need to do once. :)

Suggestion: Can you make it so that when you refresh the window, it does not auto jump to top/bottom of the shoutbox where the most recent shouts are?

Normally, this is fine (and good). However I have a lot of shouts and like to read back and get caught up on what's going on. Every 10 seconds, it refreshes and jumps you back to the bottom/top of the screen.

Could be configurable as to whether or not you want this, or maybe something like after 25 refreshes, then it does it. So people don't get trapped higher up in the scroll and not know it. Anyway, I've had a few users ask for this, and I myself would like to see it as well.

I like my latest messages on the bottom (which the shoutbox is set to), but when you read the archive, they are at the top.

Banned user should not be able to even view CB.

Check twice that those users are really banned. They should be:
- marked as 'username*' in CB
- listed in 'Banned Users' field in product options
- listed in 'Banned Users' field in CBArchive/CBFull menu

The option to deny users to edit theyrs messages is a must have for security

Last one trouble about:
A user do something in chat, another user told him but the user starts with fu***g god and a lot other, when a moderator come in the chat, the user modified all post and told to the moderator that it's not true, that he have't never said "f***g god" or that he do other of wrong... We know the true only because the user that called the mod, he got a screenshot of the chat.

Personally, I don't want my users to be able to PM. So if you add that function, please make it an option in the admincp, so it can be disabled site wide.

Also, I would really like it if there were a way to set two parameters (instead of just one) for the auto-pruning of messages. I would like one to control the amount of time the post is displayed for all to see, and the other to control the amount of time the post is viewable by the Admin for accountability purposes.

For example, I would personally like the posts to just be viewable on the website for an hour, after that time, the users having that converstation are gone, and in my mind there is no reason to keep broadcasting their discussion. However, to protect from abuse, I would like the system to retain all posts for a period of one week, so it doesn't become a "he said / she said" match when claims of abuse are reported. That way the Admin can go and look at exactly what was said and take the appropriate actions.
