There's definitely a bug with the Chatbox and connected users on my site. If I disable it for unregistered users, and I clean my sessions table, the connected users drop to 100. When I re-enable the Chatbox for unregistered users, bang, the connections spike in a matter of seconds and they all go in the Chatbox archive.

How can I disable the Archive for unregistered users?

We're experiencing this same issue on our forums (running 4.0.2PL4). We have guests disabled from viewing the chatbox, but there still seems to be a ton of spiderbots that get caught looking in the Chatbox Archive.

If you go to http://www.spacetimestudios.com/online.php you can see all the guests that are viewing the chatbox archive.

I've tried disallowing guests from viewing the chatbox via the permissions, but it doesn't fix it.

I've tried including the below in my robots.txt file to keep the bots out of those pages:


User-agent: *
Disallow: /misc.php?do=ccarc


but I'm not sure if that's the correct way to do it.

We've just let it go, but we were up to like 8,000 connected users (when traffic to the site is usually around 100 or so peak time).

Any suggestions to correct this? We love the chatbox but would like the who's online section to reflect the accurate numbers of users.

Oh, clarification - when we have it set so that guests cannot view the chatbox, the bots and the inflated numbers of connected guests dissapears.

However, we'd really like for people who are not registered to be able to view the chatbox. Our players use the chatbox to coordinate their PvP tourneys. While having guests not view might be good to drive them to register, we would like anyone who wants to, to view the chatbox.

Is there anyway to disable access to the chatbox archive by permissions?

Hmm, I'd wager it's in AdminCP -> Settings -> VSA Chatbox -> the top section for

Show ChatBox on pages (comma separated THIS_SCRIPT locations)
Blank to show on all pages (not recommended because of server load)

Show ChatBox in templates (comma separated template names)



I'm not sure what the values would be for your custom forum though...

If you you enter "forumdisplay" in the chatbox options THIS_SCRIPT parameter, then it will show in any defined forums and their sub-forums.

What I would like to do, however, is have it show in only one forum. That I haven't figured out yet. I get parse errors when I try to do this.

When I try to translate this hack's phrases, I always get a Loading... page and when I try to submit a message, I get this damn "security token" error.

I changed the Groups able to moderate ChatBox to 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 and I changed the others to 0 also tried leaving them blank.
I've uninstalled the ChatBox and reinstalled it.
Still not able to make any post on it.

EDIT: Figured this out and unlike most i wont keep it to myself :)

I have been wanting to add this chatbox to a vip forum and no where else in the forum. The forum id for VIp on our forum is 17. so for the folowing example replace 17 with the correct forum id on your forum.

heres the idiots guide i have been requesting

1) Open the FORUMDISPLAY Template
2) add the following code

{vb:raw vsachatbox}
</vb:if>

save


3) Go to vsa chatbox settings in admincp and enter the following settings

Show ChatBox on pages (comma separated THIS_SCRIPT locations) = $forumid == 17

Show ChatBox in templates (comma separated template names) = FORUMDISPLY

Position on page (Disable if you add ChatBox manually in templates) = Below navbar

enable cb = yes

save

I don't know, there are other guys here having the same issue. I had to remove it because the text was not coming out white and could not be read...

when typing does the default text come out white or do you have to change it for each post?? Not that you said that I have to check and make sure I am even posting in the right thread. I have tried every one of these...

The text was by default black in the chatbox , but if users change it to a colour, the chatbox remembers that colour next time they log in. Probably easiest solution.

oh--The best solution is too have the default text changed.. Many users will go in and type first and then get ticked off because they have to change that so in reality your script isn't working correctly... Having the default text dark and the background dark is not the ideal set up...

I don't know, I haven't even looked at the xml yet and I was hoping not too but I don't believe anyone wants to offer support with this issue..

The chatbox at my forum looks superb. I'm 99.9% sure the problem with the "dark styles" is a problem with the style itself, not the mod.

Default is white (for that specific style). However, if I change to a light style that I also have on that forum, the text changes to black. The only things I really changed after I installed it was removing the ability to change text colors (and general access permissions), which is why I believe the problem lies with the styles themselves, not the mod.

I'm not greatly experienced with this product but I'm pretty sure it was not meant to place images in. It's a shout box.

It is at my forums. It's a photography forum...

And the IMG tag works fine, only thing is it gets real weird for *large* photo's, so I'd like to restrict photo's to, say, 400x400 pixels when putting [img] tags in the chatbox.

But I have disabled the IMG tag in Chat admin settings for now.

My users are realy enjoying the chat / shoutbox a lot!

It would be very nice if it were possible to have 'channels', so that one would be able to have 'chat-channels' for certain usergroups, that others cannot see.

But it is very very nice as it is already, a big thank you for the author!

I have made it *very* wide, that worked. Altering CSS didn't work, i couldnt find the css properties and I got tired of searching.

These are my settings:

smileys per row: 13 (i know this is very wide)
Smileys to show on startup: 26
Total smilies available (0 to disable smiliebox, 1 to use all smilies): 39
Smilie clipping in smiliebox (in pixels): 50

This looks OK in default style as well as my modified style.

I wanted to change the title of the Chatbox to something other than "Chatbox"

I replaced all instances of "Chatbox" in the xml file with my own title then imported with overwrite.

Now it's giving me the following error on every page and the sidebar has disappeared:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING in /home/mysite/public_html/forum/global.php(29) : eval()'d code on line 99

I've tried undoing the changes and reimporting but still the same error.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Is this chatbox heavy for your forums ?As with any script of this type, it depends how you configure it and how much use it gets. Certainly nobody with a forum of any size on a shared host should configure it as a chatbox. I have mine set up as a shoutbox (basically, short logout times), which discourages people from hanging out there and carrying on conversations - that makes things pretty light.

If you want to change the background colour of the "message area", then in Valter Templates>vsa_chatbox template find

having a small issue. when i log out of the forum and get taken to the logout page, the chatbox is still showing, which is causing me to lag for some reason because of the amount of smilies i have, its downloading them all, all 700 of them, and then logging me out. never did this before. if i were to logout it would instantly remove itself from the view on the logout page.

Nobody with shared hosting should even think about hosting any chat room where people hang all day refreshing the page constantly. If you have shared hosting, configure this as a 'shoutbox', where people get logged out quickly.

I am having some issues with a newly installed vBulletin 4.0.6 and this chatbox. It is the only add-on that I have installed.

I have searched through the thread and looked for the following questions:

1) How to change the color of the textbox background color where you read text. - I think I have that answered in the StyleVars blockrow_background color

2) How to change the color of the text entry background color. - I found an answer but it doesn't seem to work. This post https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost.php?p=1996078&postcount=795 said to change this entry in one of the chatbox templates color:{vb:raw vsacb_colorfirst} but it did not seem to work. *EDIT* I was putting the background-color:#000000 in the wrong place. There are three entries of {vb:raw vsacb_colorfirst} in the template. It was the third one that needed the background-color entry.

3) The chatbox color selector. It is for some reason doubling the first color in the chatbox settings. When black is the first color listed in the Colors available in drop-down menu setting, it shows two blacks. My members love this chatbox, so first of all I'd like to say Thank you very much to the creators.

My question is this. Has anyone else seen large increases in bots and spiders as a result of adding this plugin. Right now on my who's online I'm showing about 300+ guests and bots as 'Viewing Chatbox Archive'. Trust me, this is way above normal.

It seems to happen about once a day. Out of nowhere tons of bots show up to view the chatbox archive. Its puzzling.

Hello. I love this chat mod so far, but I have a problem. I tried to upload a new template and it seemed to install just fine, but when I tried to use it I had issues with buttons and text not showing correctly in both the forum and in the chatbox. I tried to uninstall the template but it didn't help. I cleared my cache and restarted the machine...no better. Since this is a new forum that I'm setting up (migrating from SMF) I hadn't done a backup yet, so I decided to start from scratch. I deleted the forum, the database, and everything else I could think of. I then did a completely fresh install. To my suprise, this fixed the problems with the forum, but the problems persist with the chatbox. Can anybody think of what could be causing this? I'm running 4.0.8 .

Edit: this is what I'm getting with IE8 and it shows no errors. Firefox shows "new" on the left where the folder icons should be and the Smilies button shows okay.

Yeah..I tried that, but other programs use them in .png form. I just copied them and left one as .png and the other as .gif and they set beside each other in the folder.

Just installed on 4.0.8, and found that some icons doesn't show - VSa is looking for .gif files while there are same filename but in .png format.

Likely some sort of security they recently implemented is causing it. If you have a dedicated server then your server admin should be able to deal with it. Or you can try the server forum at vb.com.

Then to edit like SS

Vsa Chatbox

Goto: Plugins & Products

Export the VSa - Chatbox, saving it to your computer.

Open with text editor or xml editor

Find & Change the following lines:

Line 1576: '/post_new.gif' -> '/post_new.png'
Line 1580: '/post_old.gif' -> '/post_old.png'
Line 1797: '/post_new.gif' -> '/post_new.png'
Line 1801: '/post_old.gif' -> '/post_old.png'

If you smilie button isnt working replace this line also.

Line 888: '/smilie.gif' -> '/smilie.png'

Re-install the plugin replacing the old version and bingo.. all fixed.

Hi, there is a lot of pages here and im struggling to find the info I need. I would like to place the shoutbox in one forum only. Basically my site has 2 levels of users, pg13 and over 18's. I want the chat box to the in the over 18's forum only.

Is there a way to do that? Example the forum number is 98 (no not that many forums, just a number of changes over the years)

My only problem is that the icon to the left of the time/date and the text for the smilie drop down box are not showing. The link is there but the image/text is not shown. What is in place is a small icon in the shape of a page with 3 colors in it.

Now please stick with me as i'm a total noob at all this. I've downloaded this chatbox and it's exactly what i'm after.

My only problem is that the icon to the left of the time/date and the text for the smilie drop down box are not showing. The link is there but the image/text is not shown. What is in place is a small icon in the shape of a page with 3 colors in it.

This icon is putting the text out of place etc

Please please please help

Upgraded to vBulletin 4.1. Getting this error in the first line of the chatbox:

I've installed and configured the ChatBox and almost everything is working fine.... :up:

The one thing I need to change is the test color (white) on the drop-down menu
(Top left corner of the winder, to the right of the "ChatBox" and "Chatbox Full" text.

What I see is a row of white boxes...
- hovering the mouse pointer on menu items gives me a pale orange highlight, and small white text. Its almost impossible to ready it - even with my glases on! :D

Can you tell me the line numbers to edit?
- and / or show me the line + code I need to edit

This is a very cool Add-on, my users are going to love it when we release the upgraded site! (phpBB3 to vB4)

I have cleared the dupilcate chatbox by disabling the chatbox and then deleting index and forumhome out of the settings and then renabling them one at a time! I hope this helps if anyone else has the same problem. The only problem I have is the image for the archive button not displaying!

It would be awesome if there was a "notification sound" when someone posts. Enabled by default and can be disabled with one click.

Try right clicking the image and see its actual URL. Compare the image you have in the folder on your server. 99% likely its a PNG/GIF issue. I had the same too. I edited the XML and changed the GIF to PNG and it worked. :)

Anyone have any idea why after a few minutes the smilies page in the FAQ loads where the chatbox is? It does it quite frequently. Sure, I messed with the code a bit but haven't really done anything that should cause this. Anyone with similar problems please post.

I mean, I could understand a 404 page. But why is it launching the smilies page in the FAQ?

This happens to me when you are part of a usegroup that does not have permission to view the chatbox, for example banned users or unregistered/not logged in. Perhaps it's to do with you being logged out due to inactivity and becoming part of the not logged in usergroup?
