It worked fine. But I think I see what might be the issue... The period in youtu.be I didn't 'escape' - that is it should be youtu\.be in the code. Some versions of php might require this while others don't.

I made this change and this is the updated definition. Delete the old one.

When I first installed this hack everything worked perfectly. YouTube must have changed something since the, because the only way I can get anything to embed is by enclosing the ending code of the url in youtube tags, as such 5mV_HHL-h6g.

Also the sig embedding displays at full size no matter what numbers i put in.

I have installed the latest upgrade and definitions as per instructions to the best of my knowledge, but to no avail. I have not read every single post in this thread as 100+ pages is just too much. Any suggestions as to what I might be doing wrong? Forgive me if I'm asking a stupid question.

YouTube changed their "share" URLs recently and an official definition update hasn't been released yet. I believe a couple of options were posted earlier (recently) in this thread- either try an unofficial definition (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost.php?p=2185768&postcount=1495) or copy a youtube url from the browser address bar, note a share url.

Looking at your link the first video you posted shows the YouTube video icon next to it, so it did attempt to embed but for some reason it believes that video is not allowed to be embedded. What code do you have in your AME Definition in your Validation box? Consider removing it and trying again.

In AME definitions, viewing the definition of the youtube code, the last box on the screen should say "Validation." Are you using AME 2.5 for vBulletin 3.8?

No you wouldn't delete all the definitions, just import mine, there is no existing youtube "short" URL so it won't replace an old one, just add the new one.

I'm using AME 2.5.6 for 3.8. There is no Validation box. The available options are Display Order, Active, Contain, Extract Info and Delete.

I also imported DJ's AME (Auto Media Embedding) XML Media Definitions for AME 2.5 (Delta) (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=195884) via the AME CP.

I think I may have found the problem. There was a duplicate YouTube def. Once disabled it seems to embed as it should. Thanks for your help!

Did you guys install the definitions file by digital jedi? There are really 2 parts to this mod coded by 2 different people.

This thread is the mod itself which is obviously necessary...

And then there are the Definitions - https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=195884 - maintained by Digital Jedi without which this is pretty much useless unless you can write your own definitions.

Further complicating things youtube recently changed their "Share" URL... so if you paste in a video with a link to youtu.be instead of youtube.com it also will not work without another a new definition for youtube.

Thanks for getting back to me about this. This problem appears in all YouTube titles and it looks like YouTube made a change to their video title format -- a few other sites have mentioned this same issue, including:

I fixed it like this... I had to edit the AME mod... Backup your original file if you try this.

In the includes directory find the file ame_bbcode.php

At line #589 find this code:

All I can promise is it's working for me. It won't fix links you've already made but should keep new ones clean.

This mod was last updated in 2009 and is marked "Unsupported." I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for an update.

This will definitely NOT work with 4.x. There is a 4.x AME mod, it doesn't have all the features but it's enough to do the same basic thing.

It alters the post table because you can enable or disable embedding for every single post, therefore it is logical to add a field to the post table.

It puts the [ame=...] bbcode around the embedded videos because that is how it was programmed to work- and it works well. Never had a problem with this mod.

The real question is- why have you waited so long before installing? :D

Okay guys, I decided I'm going to go ahead and re-release AME 2.5 as well as AME 3 with some minor fixes and enhancements. The Geek released this to the wild right before he left developing for vB, so hopefully I can take this, learn from it, and move it to the next level. AME 2.6 (or whatever I decide to call it) will be released first, and AME 3.x will come out sometime later. No ETA, but I thought you'd like a heads up.

Primarily, I'd be getting the stuff together and updating the two default definitions so they aren't always outdated. I also have a list of small tweaks I want to work on for 2.5. Things like a toggle for people using different encoding, unless I can figure a way to globalize that in the PHP code. (Didn't have much luck with that last time I tried.) A few style enhancements, some additional help in the Admin CP, a place card for code that posts via JavaScript, user agent detection. I think this version is stable enough that it doesn't need a major overhaul, but it was missing some minor details.

I'd also like definitions with the same key to overwrite, but I'll have to look at The Geek's code more closely before I know if that's a major rewrite or not.

I have a demo that I hope to get working for FLV files in the JW Player, but right now the JW Player/AME integration (also in the Add On section above) only supports YouTube. Keep on eye on that thread for updates.

Does this plugin work better and if so, does it work on the new YouTube url structure?

If I replace PassiveVid with this plugin, will all of our old archive threads make players as well?

I sort of dread passiveVid questions, as I never really know what to say for certain. Since passiveVid doesn't use tags of any kind, then I'm pretty sure you won't be getting any kind of conversion for old posts. Other users have tried and they seem to get mixed results. I know that some users have tried installing the two together, and this is big mistake. Also, passiveVid seems to leave some tables in the database after install, so you should check that before installing another media hack. This is, of course, not based on personal experience, but on various reports I've gotten from other users.

My updated set of definitions supports most, if not all of YouTube's URL strings.

Is there anyway for the Settings to accept percentages in Default post width? As I run a wrapper with min and max-width this would be really awesome because width would change depending on the users screen size and resolution.

What Addon Thread? I suppose I don't just trying to get my site going but having a lot of issues with vbulletin, seems like I can't post anything that has a lot of characters always get error saying ad one character and I do and still get blank page with error of adding characters. I have never had so many issues with vbulletin before but it has been quite a few years since I have used it.

Sorry if this has been covered, and I did read the troubleshooting page. I just took over a board and am super newb to all of this stuff.

I'm using v3.8.0

I've uploaded the folder from the ame zip "forums" to where our forums folder is located. So now that folder shows it in /public_html/forums/forums

So I know all the files are uploaded as I ftp'd the entire forums folder. Am I supposed to move any files into any already existing folders?

I changed all the permissions to 755.

I still get this error message:

Sorry if this has been covered, and I did read the troubleshooting page. I just took over a board and am super newb to all of this stuff.

I'm using v3.8.0

I've uploaded the folder from the ame zip "forums" to where our forums folder is located. So now that folder shows it in /public_html/forums/forums

So I know all the files are uploaded as I ftp'd the entire forums folder. Am I supposed to move any files into any already existing folders?

I changed all the permissions to 755.

I still get this error message:

You should have overwritten the forums folder onto your existing forums folder. That way all files would have been added to their respective sub folders automatically.

Files in the sever directory that aren't going to be replaced by new files in your upload will be unaffected.

A while back I stopped doing separate definitions for HD links, since it seemed more logical to let the users decide if they wanted (or could handle) HD video load times. Barring any recent changes that YouTube has made in the last few days (I don't think they changed anything, but with these guys, you never know), HD videos URLs should still embed as a regular video, with the usually option to switch as part of the default player anyway.

As for Tapatalk, I don't know, as I don't have a way of troubleshooting that app, specifically. Hopefully, since they did saw they were supporting AME embeds, they can help you in their modification thread. If it helps at all, 302 Found is supposed to be a way to manage redirects. It's possible Tapatalk doesn't yet support videos that link to redirects, such as YouTube's short (youtu.be) links. Though I wouldn't think that should be a problem, you never know.

We've got a feed of our Youtube channel which creates a post with a link to the video, but doesn't embed the video. I have to manually click edit and save on the post to have AME embed the video.

vBulletin v3.8.7 Patch Level 2 I've had this installed for a while and everything worked great.

But after one week it suddenly stopped to work. And then i couldn't enter to my admincp. it showed db error like this:

How do you stop youtube from autoplaying. A member has figured out a way to make youtube videos auto play and its very annoying. I only have AME embedding and nothing else. He seems to have added code to the end of the video URL. Heres an example of the url as it looks.

That did not work. Im not trying to disable these links one at a time. Im trying to make it impossible to autoplay youtube videos on my site.

It looks like by adding %26%61%75%74%6F%70%6C%61%79%3D%31 to the end of the youtube URL that autoplay is set to 1

I'm installing this on my board. I have a very large board. Its been trying to "Importing Product, Please Wait..." for the last 3 hours. Is it normal for this part of the process to take so long?

It may have timed out... You should probably close your forum before importing this product- especially on a large forum. It has to make changes to the post table so if you have millions of posts that's going to take a while.

It appears to be working actually. I'm now going through the process of converting all the old MEDIA tags (goldbrick) to URL tags and then converting these into AME style tags so that it works.

Is it advised to do all of this before importing any definitions into the AME system?

Something odd has happened. I've had this mod working on my forum for a number of months now. I had to use vbulletins internal "rebuild the post cache". Ever since doing that some posts in the forum which contained media are either showing blank or the videos that are embedded within them while everything else does.

The tags are still there. If i go to edit an affected post and then re-save the videos appear again.

I'm not sure what has happened. Is there an easy way to fix this which doesn't involve me trawling through the forum and manually editing broken posts as and when i see them?

I'm logged into Youtube and am not having any https URLs... that said it should be a fairly simple fix...

What do you have in the Regular expression box for the YouTube definition?

If it starts with http:// just change it to https*:// and that should work with both http and https links.

This is an issue with Vimeo also... they are moving over to all https and AME won't embed the https. Also, AME won't embed youtube vids that are not of this format:

If it has anything like below, such as &feature, or &related, they won't embed. They have to be the 'long link' as shown above.

If you wanted to remove it then, You will need have another Addon if you want your videos to show and not edit them all again! Else you will have to use a BBCODE, and edit each and every post again! Here is a link to a full Youtube BBCODE embed:

I think that may be a "feature" of a particular browser. I set this up for a client yesterday and he complained that his videos weren't showing. As he was explaining, he said he was using Chrome and the sites he visited were all https://. His main concern was Vimeo. I use FF, so when I clicked an https:// link he sent me in an email, I found that the page was NOT https:// in my browser.

However, I did add that s* code you provided in the regex box and it works fine. Thanks for that.

Yes, I have. But a simple edit and save without actually editing the link doesn't work for me. I find that the user has posted a link to a full-screen video, which is a different URL. I have to find the You Tube page the standard video is on and copy the address that appears when you click the Share button.

It depends how the user is posting the link- if they are using a mobile app like forum runner or tapatalk this may be expected because the proper hooks are not being run when the message is submitted. The "Zoints Anonymous Posting" and "VB Network" mods cause the same problem when posts are made through them again because of no hooks being called.

I have replaced the YouTube regular expression on my site with the following code:

[http://]*[a-z]*?[\.]?youtube\.[a-z]*?/watch\?[&\w;=\+_\-]*\bv=([A-Z0-9._%-]*)[&\w;=\+_\-]*

The reason is that sometimes there are links in the following format:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=video_id

And when users enter such a URL with the default embed code, this link doesn't work because of the extra parameter before the "v".

With the above code it works though.

It's not complex, and was actually designed to run lighter than BBCode. But the default definitions are not up to date. My thread is linked in the add-on section above. They're not entirely up-to-date either, but the YouTube definition in that thread should still work just fine. You don't need to read the entire thread. But the first few posts of both The Geek's and my thread can be pretty helpful. My FAQ is also just a bit more current.

My main reason for putting this on my forum is to embed youtube videos. All I need to do (after I install AME) is to upload your XML defintion in the settings and that will allow me to embed youtube videos?

Import the XML using the AME CP in your Admin CP. You'll be presented with a big list of definitions, but there are two YouTube definitions (alphabetically) towards the bottom. Be sure to check my FAQ first for a list of common problems when doing that for the first time.

By frame, do you mean the table that surrounds the videos? Turn off Contain per definition.

When it's set to HTTP all Video embeds that have a HTTPS URL are turned into links.

It's where all the community made definitions have been collected, and where I keep them updated. AME was made so you could create and import definitions as needed. Since it got messy trying to keep track of who made what in this thread, one separate mod thread was started to keep them all together.

We've made a few over the years that host images, but since definitions have to be specific to a particular website (maybe one or two, depending on the domain names) there is no general definition created to handle all images from everywhere. Just from certain, specific websites. Since AME is based on making matches in posts, anything too generic would try to parse the image, even in a post like the one you just made above. (It sees that you posted the phrase jpg, and thinks all your text before it is the URL of the image. Whoops!)

I've been working with RegExes for sometime now, and I still think, for images, BBCode is better. This is mainly for videos and things BBCode can't handle without getting complicated.

It's been mentioned on nearly every page of this thread (and even on the last two) that the default YouTube definition is outdated, and that I keep the updated definitions collected in my thread, linked in the Add-On section. Not only does this add-on work with YouTube, but hundreds of other websites.

This is what you do.

Go into your AME CP in admin CP.

Choose

AME CP => Tools => Rebuild => Posts

Then a new window will appear.

#1 option "remove AME codes" should be marked YES.

#2 option "ignore previous" marked NO

Other options set to your liking.

then press 'Save' button at the bottom.

Let the tool run its course. When it is finished go BACK to the same spot AME CP => Tools => Rebuild => Posts

This time, #1 option should be marked NO. Otherwise Leave your settings the same. Run the tool again. They should all show now.

As far as I can tell, you will have to do this any time you do 'refresh post cache' in update/countersNice.

This not only fixed every link, it went ALL the way back to get them ALL, not just the 1 year it said in the settings!

I'm all set now, marked installed. Great Mod.

It SEEMED to be doing this to me at first install, but I noticed it was only in some styles, not all.... But after I cleared cache all was well. Have you tried clearing your browser cache? Are all of your styles this way now?

Also, look in AME CP at "Default Zone Settings" and where it says "container" make that field blank. See what that does. You can always put it back.

AME 2.5 should have no impact on your site's CSS, since it doesn't modify or add anything new to your CSS. Also, if it is the forum in your signature, AME 2.5 wasn't designed to run on a 4.x forum, and wouldn't work, from what I remember, even if you tried.

Also, if it is the forum in your signature, AME 2.5 wasn't designed to run on a 4.x forum, and wouldn't work, from what I remember, even if you tried.I had the same issue he is reporting, but like I said it went away on its own apparently. I think it had to do with file caching.

Not precisely. vB4 parses video with the use of a universal BBCode, but you still have to manually insert the BBCode to make it work, and you have to construct the BBCodes yourself. The_Geek made AME 3 to work with vB 4 in that respect, where you would only need to link to the video, and you could import a bunch of definitions to already rather than making them all one by one. I'm still working on making time to complete a Master XML for that version.

What is the process of upgrading to 4.2 if this mod is installed?

1) Should I first upgrade, uninstall it and install the 4.x version of this mod (AME3 - Auto Media Embeding and Video Extender) ?

2) Uninstall it before upgrading to 4.x then install the 4.x version of this mod after upgrade of forum is complete?

Also, would uninstalling remove the the tables originally created by this mod? What are those tables?

I'll be releasing in, hopefully, not long a time, an update of this version of AME. Since The Geek released this to the public, I've been working on my own version and one for vB4. It will only have some small style enhancements, a fleshed out Admin CP help and one or two options the previous version didn't have. I'll let you know here when I release it. But I'd like to know if there's still an audience for continued development of AME 2.5.

Alright, then. I'll go ahead and release it when I'm done. Currently I'm trying to figure out the problem with missing keys when my large master XML is imported. This has been complicated by the fact that my site is down (again) and I'm having trouble getting a backup to restore it. But I have a demo board I can work this out in. I just didn't have my definitions fully loaded there. So that will take me a little while longer. Actively working on it.

Just to verify this is indeed a PHP error, is anyone besides me having trouble deleting definitions from your list once you have more than a hundred definitions? I'm fairly convinced this is a server error, but if any of you can replicate this problem on your boards, it would help me to work out any final bugs that may or may not exist in AME 2.5.

A little later than expected, but ain't that the norm? My fork of The Geek's AME has been posted here: DJ's AME 2.5.7 :: Return of the Jedi (It's not really called that.)

If you'd like to give AME 2.5.7 on your test installations a roll, feel free. And get back to me in that thread with any feedback.

Note that people having problems importing my master list of definitions will probably still experience the same issues with 2.5.7. This appears to be a server issues, rather than a product one. I'll address that issue with the next release of my master definitions set.

Some people still use it and run it successfully, so it won't be graveyarded due to the fact that it is not working for you.

Yep tried the as well and still doesn't work! Maybe I missed something. For a fresh install do you need to install the additional definitions to get youtube videos to work. Because with both this version and the 2.5.7 neither work with youtube once the mod is installed.

I hope so. The only think I can guess is the issue is that my site has a SSL certificate installed and that is somehow messing with the ability for his mods to embed videos since my site uses https and not http... Anyway that is just a guess...
