Its vbSEO, you have it set to track all outbound links which changes links so that AME cant match them. To use AME you will need to disable vbSEO's tracking of all outbound links.

Several posts in this thread people have had the problem "when clearing post cache embedded vids dissapear" the answer was always something like "you must have the remove AME codes turned off"

what was happening was this.

When they said post cache, you where thinking of the post rebuild option. In fact, they where talking about refreshing the actual post cache through update counters. Not rebuilding urls through the AME CP.

This is still a problem, when you refresh your post cache, embedded media dissapears unless you 'edit' the post, then it will reapper, as the URL is still there, albeit hidden. However, There is a simple workaround.

If you refresh your post cache through update counters, your embedded media will dissapear, but it is still there. All you need to do, is run the rebuild with the remove AME tags ON! so that it converts everything back to URLs, then run it again with the remove AME tag off so that it converts the URLs back to AME code, viola your videos show again.

I like to think of it as refreshing your AME media~

I have the passive video lite mod and I uninstalled and then install this great mod, but all the videos in my post are not showing it so I have to edit the post (only click in edit and immediately save) and the video show it again.

I've installed this on a 3.8.2 vB board and I can see the AME CP etc etc. But from the front end I don't see anything different at all. I can't see where or how to add a YouTube video. Am I supposed to see a new icon or button when creating a new post?

Just paste a youtube URL into a message and post. AME does the rest :)

I don't think that this will do that, but it might with some custom definitions. There are a few other add-ons out there that might do that, but you might try Variable Replacements, like Lynne suggested (that is under Styles, so you'd need to add it in for each style you are using).

I've got what I hope is a minor feature request:

Is it possible to have the mod obey the "Show Images" flag from the UserCP->Thread Display Options->Visible Post Elements when it comes to the display of the embedded video?

Instead of displaying the embedded player, just display the title link to the video alone so users who have opted not to show inline images in posts don't have the inline embedded player displaying a still from the movie.

Installed on one vBulletin site and it works great. I just tried to install it on another and I am getting warnings like the one below when I try to convert the posts. I saw other posts about making sure all the files were transferred and into the right places. They are in the correct directories and all the files were uploaded. I used my ftp program in the "Auto" mode. Should the files be ASCII or Binary only? I also checked that the cache permissions were set to 777. Any other ideas why I would get this error?

I had (have) the same problem. There are a few links that will, and a few that won't on youtube.
If the link won't show up, make sure it's embeddable, because youtube allows their uploaders to disallow embedding.

This product needs something that tells people "this link is not embeddable" or something simillar.

Best of luck, those custom bbcodes are winners. This modification is clearly marked as unsupported and even if it was fully supported, I would suggest paying someone to support your needs on free modifications if you can't hold your horses :)

If the video can't be embeded from the external site, not much AME can do about it. If the video isnt available in your country, chances are it will be availible in other countries for your other users in other countries. If the video is unavailible for embedding at all, well... AME can't convince it be otherwise. Thankfully AME does provide fallover for this situation by posting at least the link and icon instead of other systems that will show a broken embeded video.

If that fails, disable file caching. File caching improves performance, but mainly with a garantuan amount of definitions and/or posts with embeded media.

Check out the readme. AME doesnt translate your posts at runtime, it translates when the post is saved. Therefore old posts wont show the media untial they have been edited or you have used the rebuild tool.

It does. You can display embed code for non embeded media. The problem is that when a user plays the media, youtube gives says 'this video is no longer availible'. That is incorrect, rather 'it isnt availible offsite any longer'. So AME actually goes the extra mile to prevent this problem. A definition can double check the destination page to see if mebedding is disabled. If it is, AME will elequently fall over by producing a link to the video with an icon that indicates it is an offsite media destination (instead of the 'broken' media that you would have gotten otherwise).

Warnings and such seemed excessive and overall more confusing to the user than the icon solution but less than a broken media embedded in your post. You can edit the AME templates to provide another indication to your users if you need to.

I think thats all outstanding items, just a friendly reminder that I haven't come accross an issue with this mod where the answer isn't either located in this thread or the mods readme (hence the reason this mod needs little to no support and why it hanst needed to be updated for so long). If you are having problems, check the readme and the thread for your answers. If the problem is with an add on definition that doesnt come with AME by default, you will need to take the matter to them.

For those it doesn't, you can easily create your own custom definitions, or upload someone else's. There are several contributors that have done this, DJ being a major one.

In the end, I don't think its fair to criticise AME if you have a problem with a definition that was created by another user or if there isn't a definition out there that you need. If there isn't a solution out there, release one. If whats out there doesnt work as you need it to, make one that does. Just don't get upset if someone doesn't do it for you in a 12 hour time span.

Thank you Geek. I will give that a try. I uninstalled the software last night because we were having post edit response issues. Once I removed it everything went back to normal. No problem. If you are having edit response issues (i.e. its taking a long time to save a post with media in it) that could be because the extraction setting is on and the detination site is being unresponsive. Normally, the extraction method is pretty unnoticable, however in the event that you post a media link that has it on, it will try to download the destination page to extract information from it (i.e. the title, run check to see if embedding is allowed, etc...). If the destination server is taking its own sweet time and/or you have A LOT of media in a single post, well... you get the picture :)

You can always turn that feature off, though many other features and definitions may require it and in normal operation, it seldom causes a problem.

One more quick question Geek. I have successfully installed a definition for my new fishing CMS site based on the Social Media script and have it embedding clips via AME correctly on my other website. But when I click on an embedded clip it takes me to the originating video site in the same window. I would like for it to open in a new window so that the viewer does not leave the website where the video clip is embedded. Obviously I need a target="_blank" code added somewhere but where do I add that to accomplish this? Thanks!

Ok, then I apologize for my ignorance. I was confused by all the different AME mod posts which all seem to be for AME. I assumed by DJ's signature that he was part of your project and that the Delta xml is part of the overall project. Those two video sites are in the delta xml and neither work.

Again, my apolgies and I didn't critisize the AME, as I find it to be more superior than "the other one", plus you offer it for free.

Geek, I did a clean install on the site that was giving me trouble and it reinstalled beautifully and worked the first time. I don't know what the issue was before but all is good now. Now all I have to do is to figure out how to submit my custom definition for my new video site for others to use. THanks again for all your help and for this great software mod! :cool:

This all of a sudden stopped working and I'm puzzled...
It keeps videos in old posts embedded, but new posts are not being embedded.
Yes, I checked the ACP settings and ticked the "Automatically Embed" box when making a post.

Any ideas?

Edit: I realize that it works if I wrap the link in "[ame]" tags. How do I disable this requirement?

How do I align the videos to the left or right, instead of having it aligned centered in posts?

Answer: To align the video to the left or right instead of having it centered, change your Container HTML: Admin CP >>> AMECP >>> Settings >>> Container HTML >>> Open. Look for this line of code <div align="center"> and change "center" to "left" or "right".

Hopefully this works for you and then with that "good karma" thing I can get an answer to my issues :up:

Hey Arny, I know you've had this problem for awhile, but I really don't know what the issue is. I suspect it is a conflict with another mod as it is taking the HTML output from AME and transforming all the HTML into entities. In other words, instead of your browser getting:
<div align="center">
your browser is getting
&lt;div align=&quote;center&quote;&gt;

There isn't anything in AME that would do that, so again I suspect a conflict with another hack. Another thing that would point to another hack is the odd behaviour you get doing things like turning template names on/off. That is pretty odd. Normally I would offer to log in and try to resolve, however I simply lack any time to right now. I hope the above may give you some indication on how to resolve the problem though :)

If your server doesn't support ccurl or fopen, you MUST turn off the extraction option because one of those 2 functions are needed for extracting info from other sites. The good news is that extracting isn't a necessity, however a few definitions out there and a couple minor features do require it to be on.

Installed and working on 3.8.1 - thanks!

Added information for those concerned about the time to set this up. We have over 3.5 million posts, so I tried this first on our backup forum and the install screen timed out due to (I believe) PHP settings. So I examined the setup and found the line that modified the post table

ALTER TABLE post ADD ame_flag TINYINT DEFAULT '0' NOT NULL

So I just ran this via mysql when the board was quiet, which took about 20 minutes, and then did the install which just skipped over this stage as it was already done and completed with no issues. I have done this for other modifications that alter the post table as well and have never had trouble.

The mod is designed to parse (meaning, to convert) the URL of media into a video automatically. So once you have it configured to do what you want, all a user would have to is post the video and it would auto convert. No special buttons or actions required.

That said, it has to be setup to do that. If you added the Local Hosting definitions from my thread (as it appear you have) then this means that all anyone has to do is post the physical link location of a video and AME should parse it into embedded media. Just bear in mind that this won't work with attachments, because AME can't tell the difference between the different types of media in attachments. It distinguishes which type of file to parse based on the URL, and attachment URLs are all the same (yourdomain.com/attachment.php). You would need to upload the videos to your server and post the physical link to the video.

The youtube thing is probably because of multiple definitions. IIRC in the AME definitions, there is already an existing definition, and in the addon group (which is really good), there's another one.

As far as the non permission error, you may need to change the file permissions for /admincp/automediaembed_admin.php to world readable. Zip files often carry weird permission problems like this.

ok, I figured out why the youtube videos were showing up twice. I had two definition for youtube and needed to delete one.

Still can't run the conversion though. Oh well, works great for new ones.

You can make it to work with images and almost any kind of media, but just keep in mind that the definitions have to be site specific. Just like you have to have a definition for YouTube to convert YouTube URLs, you would have to have a definition for wherever your hosting your image files.

Not by default. The add on in the link will convert the HD/HQ links, if you know how to do that. But the way YouTube has confgured their HD videos, there's no way to just have AME guess which is which. You have to post the link to the HD vid.

I have to re-enforce some the the posts about slow-downs when making a new thread.

I have done exhaustive research and can firmly state that while AME is a great idea, whenever it is active and a user creates a new thread (not a reply) the site takes nearly 30 seconds to refresh...

With AME simply disabled via plugin interface and all other plugins active, the refresh is only 1-2 seconds.

I haven't read through the entire AME forum yet to see if there is a solution? But I am running the latest version and I have been using it for a while. This is why it took me so long to diagnose the problem. I kept looking at plugins I installed recently, not the AME (which I had for a while)....

I do have the FULL list of AME plugins installed, not sure if that a problem oh....
And I am also noticing it more on a government network than a civilian one.

Perhaps the blocking of YouTube and the rest helps create this bottle neck?

Would this happen even on a non-AME post (i.e. text only) - I mean to be honest, I rarely need to benifits of AME as my users don't normally post video and things, but I saw this slow down when simply typing "Testing 12345678"....

Is it a local file or a file from another website? Either way MP3 does not come supported by default. You have to get the definitions from my add-on thread to support MP3s locally hosted on your webserver. Same for any off-site media. My add-on is linked in the add-on section above.

That was your problem. When you install the blog after you install AME you have to run the integration tool in your AME CP to add the proper column to your database. Always check your AME Tools before you start installing/uninstalling AME. Yes, if you install AME now it should notice the blog automatically.

I have to re-enforce some the the posts about slow-downs when making a new thread.

I have done exhaustive research and can firmly state that while AME is a great idea, whenever it is active and a user creates a new thread (not a reply) the site takes nearly 30 seconds to refresh...

With AME simply disabled via plugin interface and all other plugins active, the refresh is only 1-2 seconds.

I haven't read through the entire AME forum yet to see if there is a solution? But I am running the latest version and I have been using it for a while. This is why it took me so long to diagnose the problem. I kept looking at plugins I installed recently, not the AME (which I had for a while)....


I do have the FULL list of AME plugins installed, not sure if that a problem oh....
And I am also noticing it more on a government network than a civilian one.

Perhaps the blocking of YouTube and the rest helps create this bottle neck?

Would this happen even on a non-AME post (i.e. text only) - I mean to be honest, I rarely need to benifits of AME as my users don't normally post video and things, but I saw this slow down when simply typing "Testing 12345678"....

Let me add that I am using VBOptimizer and XCache as well....
Oh, and I - ofcourse - enabled any AME optimizations (caching) as well...

This can be an issue and is pretty well documented wherever I could (and also easily worked around).

AME has the ability to go 'fetch' a web page when it discovers a definition match. A good example of this in action is that your youtube.com video link transforms into the video's page title.

So... AME finds a match (and if the setting is on) will go to that page and parse it for information. Generally its just the page title. Sometimes it is to ensure the video can be embedded, etc...

So... If you post 50 youtube.com links in a post and the 'enable extraction' setting is on and the youtube definition has its extraction on, AME will go to youtube 50 times while you are saving your post. That will be a noticeable slowdown. Multiply it by your sites connectivity (i.e. if the site has choked bandwidth, it will be even slower).

The good news is that AME only ever does this when you are saving a post that contains one or more matching definitions. The other good news is that you can also disable the extraction setting both globally as well as per definition (though note that some definitions rely on this feature).

Very basic but common mistake is having the AME product turned off in the top setting. Make sure Disable New Items is set to No. Also check your Usergroup Permissions and remember that for some testing you have to edit already posted messages.

No, it's definitely set to "No" in that disable new stuff option and when it wasn't working my usergroup permissions was one of the first things I checked but that's kosher too.

I thought maybe I had fudged the chmod on that amecache folder or something but it was all sevens so... yeah, I'm lost on this one :confused:

That would indeed work, but you wouldnt have to take the step out of the product file, ame will silently skip the step if the column is already there.

1. I didn't refresh a page to see if it worked. I created a new post with several links from various video tube sites (G4TV, YouTube, Google Video).

2. Like I said, I posted multiple videos from multiple sites.

3. I've checked and rechecked usergroup permissions. Everything is kosher here (as mentioned in a previous post this was the first thing I checked for troubleshooting).

4. Cache setup is not wrong. It's currently set as enabled, the folder is place in the correct directory, and it is CHMODded to "777." There are no cache alerts at the top of the AME CP options page.

5. My site utilizes vBulletin 3.8.3.

Thorsten, click on admincp >> ame cp >> display definitions >>

Then, scroll down to the Amazon thumbnails and click on the actual "Amazon (Thumbnails)" link and click on it. Then, you'll see the "Media Definition Code". The bottom of the two boxes (Replacement) is the one where you'll find where to put the 'tag' for your code.

An example is title="{$ameinfo[title]}?tag=waldisboa-20" and you'd replace the "waldisboa-20" with your code.

However, I've a question about removing definitions: I've imported the list from DJ and noticed, that Amazon was also in the list. So I kicked all 3 of them out.
But when I posted a new entry containing an url from Amazon, the image still showed up and the url didn't got converted using another mod for the affiliate link.

Are the definitions getting cached somewhere or do I need to re-run the tool for rebuilding the posts again?

Provide some example youtube urls for me to check out. It could be that the validation is failing because of some other error. You can try editing the definition and clearing out the validation regexp which will prevent AME from trying to validate the media.

FWIW, I just installed a fresh copy of 3.8.3 and AME 2.5.4 and can't see any issues. Everything I am posting from youtube is working as expected so if you think that AME is getting false positives on validating embedding, please provide some example URLs that should be embedding but aren't.

Like I said, it works on a default install. My guess would be that another mod is conflicting or a sloppy paste job. Am assuming you are using the default youtube definition.

Bug notice where URLs are only showing instead of the media (or showing oddly) in vB3.8.3:

It looks like there is a bug with the latest WYSIWYG editor. I have only done initial tests and have only just posted a bug in the vB bug tracker so it could be a little early yet to pin point, however: It appears that when using the WYSIWYG editor in IE on vb3.8.3, the editor will include color tags within the URL tags. This doesnt appear to happen with FF or earlier versions of vB. It appears that if indeed this is the reason, that AME is choking on the HTML/BBcode that is chucked in with the URL.

I am sure I can insert some tests to strip these out if needed, but in the meantime the only workaround I can find is to either post in FF or toggle to the normal text editor.

I am going out of town tomorrow so I may not get a fix posted until next week.

Ah, well that would probably explain the issue I'm seeing then. So, basically, I should ensure that if someone is going to post a url from youtube they make sure it's a proper url, by this I mean it's copied from the youtube page it's being viewed from and has the "watch" portion included.

I'm using this in conjunction with a Forms app. For example, I have the user enter the URL of a show on Hulu and it is supposed to automatically show up embedded on the thread that is generated. If the video couldn't be embedded, there needs to be some sort of warning for the user, it only makes sense, but that would be why that youtube video didn't work right. In fact, if you look at most of them that don't work right (if not all), I'd bet you would see the same thingWell darn. I thought that the other link would work.

I have just uploaded AME 2.5.5 to address a couple of minor issues. Mainly surrounding editing of existing AME links that contain brackets inside the name. This could (in rare cases) also affect posts with multiple media URLs in them.

I also added another hook to extend additional functionality for media that fails to validate (i.e. a youtube link that doesn't allow external embedding). I do not currently have plans to extend this area further than I have done, but its there :)

I have also updated the ame_nomedia template to add the phrase 'External Embedding Not Available' as the title to the link. This appears if the definition does not validate along with an icon. If you want to make it more obvious to the user that AME is working, but the video won't embed, I suggest playing with that template (or use the new hook).

To upgrade:

Download the latest package
Unzip and upload the contents of the upload/forums folder into your own forums folder (be sure to upload ALL the files and folders choosing to overwrite existing files).
Import the product_ame.xml file into your admincp product system (choosing to overwrite existing version)

Depends on a couple things. I moved the position of one of AMEs hooks in 2.5.5 to hopefully accommodate what I think you're after.

If only using the default youtube definition and you only want youtube videos with hd=1 in the URL to be a larger size, then just create a new plugin:

Not sure if I follow. vB wraps all text it thinks are URLs with URL tags before AME gets to it (as long as the option to automatically parse links in text is checked). AME only checks URL tags and not the text itself so you have a couple options:

1- Untick the option to parse links in text
2- Untick the 'Automatically embed media' option when posting

update, i went into the definition and turned off Extract Information and youtube started working again just fine.

Looks like there is an issue w/ the Extract Information functionality.

Nor should it because http://www.youtube.com/v/XXXX-XxXXxxX in an address bar will not take you to a video as it is the movie object address. When AME validates, it uses

Because that is the HTML that is in the source when the embed URL is present on the page. Otherwise it isn't there and instead 'Embedding disabled by request' or whatever.

I have tested this pretty throughly and while bugs in anything are inevitable, I am confident that the default install works as intended. If you are using custom or new definitions, that could be the culprit.

If the video doesn't allow embedding, the page title will still appear and an icon will be displayed. Furthermore in 2.5.5 I put 'External embedding not available' in the anchor title. I also added a hook to enable modders to extend this functionality, but apart from that, not sure how much more I can do. Personally I would suggest editing the ame_nomedia template to maybe put text after the link like: (media cannot be embedded). I didn't do that by default because I didn't want to go overkill on visual hints.

Great mod.

I'm using this in conjunction with a Forms app. For example, I have the user enter the URL of a show on Hulu and it is supposed to automatically show up embedded on the thread that is generated. However, it's not changing the link into an imbed. Is there some setting I am missing or does this just not work on posts not made using the traditional means?

The forms app would need to hook into AME to prep and parse the text. Check out AMEs plugins to see how AME is doing it for blogs, visitor messages, posts, etc... for an idea of how to do it.

But I want to have YouTube links in a "Click Here" format without it detecting that it's a YouTube link and parsing it.

I tested the above with HD links and it works, but have to confess I am no connoisseur of youtube HD links. Just noticed that the ones I was testing had hd=1 in them. If there is no way to tell a difference between a normal URL and an HD one, I don't think there will be a way around it. Saying that, the plug in is still a good way to customize media based on its type.

A single DB error is a bad sign. Can't honestly believe you had a ton of them, but my suggestion would be to uninstall it if you did.

I then tested the you tube link which works perfect with a default installation of vb3.8.3 and AME 2.5.5. I didn't test the meta cafe as that is a custom definition so you will need to speak to the author.

If its an old post, try editing and saving it again. If it isnt a default definiton, you may want to reinstall.

Mine is a fresh install of vbulletin version 3.8.3 and i have triple checked to ensure all files are in place and that I have the settings as they should be... links are simply links (youtube videos, embedding allowed) whether new posts or old ones edited. The videos are simply not appearing. Just a heads-up that it's not an isolated incident... great looking mod though, so I'll try to be patient :)

If its a fresh install of AME using default definitions and it isn't working, then it will be a conflict. The most common is a mod that changes URLs. If you are using vbSEO, make sure it isn't set to track outbound links.

Matches all forms of youtube.com URLs in a post. If there is a match, AME knows to embed media.

Replacement:
This is the embed code that AME actually inserts into the post instead of the link. Technically speaking, it is what appears in the AME templates that are inserted into the post instead of the URL that the user entered.

Extract definition data:
This is an option that tells AME to go fetch the destination page when a match is made when the post is being saved. AME will then extract the page title. In some complex definitions where the URL doesnt contain enough information for the embedding to occur, AME may have to get the destination page to get the information required to actually embed the code.

Embedding Regexp:
In the case where the URL doesn't contain enough information for the embedding to occur, AME will need to fetch the destination page and extract the information it does need. In this case, this is the regular expression used to return the information AME needs.

Validation:
Some sites have external embedding disabled for some of its media (i.e. youtube). If extract definition data is on and there is a validation RegExp, AME will fetch the destination page and run the regexp on it (the regexp generally tries to match the text found in the destination sites Embed HTML textbox). If it finds what it is looking for, AME embeds, otherwise it asserts that the media cannot be externally embedded and as such, AME simply presents a link instead of a broken media box.

When people post video URLs on my board, AME recognizes it just fine and embeds the video.

However, some videos will eventually just disappear for past posts and the automatic embed continues to work for only new posts.

Any idea why? The only fix is to convert their URL tags to AME using the tool.
Also, it appears that this might occur only after I've ran maintenance on the board.

Please help!
Only thing I can think of is if you are dealing with definitions that were changed or are no longer valid.

I think you're over complicating it. From what I can tell, you don't need to extract any of dailymotions page information for the embedding to occur. From the examples you posted and the couple of pages I noticed, the URL contains sufficient information to make it work. Give me a minute to whip up an example and I will post it in DJ's thread.

Those links don't work so I tried earlier ones you posted. 1st one gave me a server error and second one I can see.

Those links don't work so I tried earlier ones you posted. 1st one gave me a server error and second one I can see.

As I said above, the media isnt validating because you have the extraction setting turned on, but your server doesn't support ccurl OR file_fet_contents via a URL wrapper. Turn off the extraction setting and/or remove the validation for the youtube definition.

Do you mean using vB's function to post RSS feeds as threads? In theory it should work, though in all honesty I haven't ever tested it so it could require some tweaking. Can you please provide an example of the RSS feed you are using so I can test?

You can test any Youtube rss (http://www.youtube.com/rssls). Every day I run manually the rebuild tool of Ame to parse that links :/

Have you changed anything on your site lately? One of the more common things that stops AME working is using a mod that modifies URLs (i.e. using vBSEO to track outbound links). If not, provide a URL as an example

Looks like you may have duplicate definitions. Remove any duplicates you have.

ive tried reinstalling , taking out youtube before i added it again so it isn't duplicate but same thing happens heres the full code i get whenever i try to post youtube it just pastes this in my post instead, any idea why? i just checked it and happens with other sites too , is my forum not allowing bbcode or something?

I just disable passiveVid (Automaticlly turns video links like youtube, myspace videos, google vidoes into the video players) and I have no two Youtube videos anymore BUT I'm not seeing the Google videos anymore, just the link. I do have the AME working bc of the way the Youtube video shows (see attachment) but now nothing else is showing, just the link.

I have come across this only once before and it took hours for me to find the problem. If indeed it is the same anomoly It is some kind of variable caching that is causing AME's processes to get mixed up. TO resolve it, try this and let me know (note that you will need to do this for future upgrades unless I can find a way around it)

Not sure what to make of that, as far as I can tell, the only difference between the two is that there is a missing line break after the code block in the second picture. AME does some limited processing of code blocks (to prevent AME from enbedding in quotes and such) but not sure how this would cause what you are saying. Anyhoo, i'll look into it, but am busy trying to put together a new version that supports a testbed and overridable options.
