This is really designed to replace that way of embedding. With AME, users only have to paste the URL into the message, not 'part' of the url between youtube tags. This can even convert your old youtube tags into normal URLs again (which can then be turned into AME tags)

First all the videos are there. Then when you rebuild post cache, the videos disappear. If you click on edit post, all the links are there, but not displayed in the post. Anyone else having this problem?

Check the FAQ and readme. It wont automatically embed old urls unless you rebuild them through the amecp. Do new/edited posts work?

I can't really say that I have ever had this problem or that it has ever been reported before. Saying that, if you are using the extract abilities of this system (which most are), then understand that when posts are edited or created, many definitions will actually cause AME to pull the destination URL's web page to extract information out of it (i.e. page titles). If you have several AME links in a post, that meas that AME has to pull several pages from the web for this information. If the destination page(s) is/are unresponsive or slow, then it will slow down saving the post.

Anyhoo, just thought I would give you a bit of background on it. It only happens when saving a post and you can run AME without extraction (thought some definitions require it). However its rarely a problem for users.

Same exact problem here.
Again, I have just tried to do this several different ways on my local site and the only time it removed AME codes was when the setting: Remove [ame] codes was Yes. That is by design so you can remove AME if you ever chose to.

That link works with a default installation. Check which definitions youre using as the one that comes with AME seems to be working fine with the link you provided.

I managed to fix my issue with the youtube links. After disabling all my other hacks I was able to narrow down the issue to vboptimize. Once I did a complete reinstall of ame all my youtube links worked fine.

I have to agree with you it is obvious that several of the users are not configuring thier system correctly or else have a conflicting hack or such.

Most obvious is that while a handful have the problem, 1000's of others do not.

All I can do is test posted URLs on default vB and AME installations. If they work, not sure what else I can do. FWIW, this and 2.0 have over 1,500 installs and its only a couple people that have reported a problem. Those that have generally find its another mod or a configuration error.

In the end, if I can't reproduce the problem, I can't solve it.

I am having issues (just started this morning) where I cannot have a YouTube (or other) video embedded correctly. I'm currently running 3.7.4, if I upgrade to 2.5 will it help with this issue?

I changed the "URL" to "AME" as someone had mentioned in the 2.0 thread (and possibly here on this thread), but it simply displays the following code on the post....

That URL (http://www.youtube.com/v/dZZfuCJ970w) is not the correct format. In fact, if you follow that URL, it forwards you to a full screen version of a crowded house video. The default AME install wont transform that.

You havent uploaded all the files or they are uplaoded into the wrong location. Check the readme and the FAQ linked in the first post.

You can always change the size ($ameinf[height] and $ameinfo[width]) based on the definitions key using a conditional, however that would do it for all youtube entries unless you had seperate ones for HD and non HD.

I have a brilliant notion. You collect 1.00 each from each complaining member and if you get enought to entice Geek to log in as Admin I dare say you will be fixed in minutes. That does embed and shows in AME 2.5 and VB 3.81 just perfectly.

Now that I have butchered my post up good I will try this again. Take the link you posted : http://www.youtube.com/v/dZZfuCJ970w (http://www.youtube.com/v/dZZfuCJ970w) that is not a valid UTUBE and add &feature=player_embedded to the link and it will then show up and work in AME perfectly as that would be the entire link at that point and ALL UTUBE links that are supposed to work do work in AME if you have it set up right.

You have multiple versions of the same definition. Look through your definitions and remove one of the duplicates :)

Okay more weirdness ......

If I change the 'container' template setting to either null or 'ame_container' then the very next posting seems to work, but when another post is made it fails.

Interestingly enough each time I do a post preview the video shows up perfectly!

Okay I've tried going back to version 2.02, and tried 2.5.4 completely reinstalling each time.

Tried vB vanilla templates etc, turning Mods on and off.

Again if I change the template it works for a second or two, bit not after that.

So unfortunately I'm going to have to disable the Mod until a fix is found :(

What looks to be happening is that there is some other hack already transforming the URLs before AME can get to them (or after which is messing them up). If you look at the URLs, they arent normal vB urls, they call a javascript function to track all outbound links:

pageTracker._trackPageview ('/outgoing/http_www_youtube_com_watch_v_uk0xWm8PMGQ');

It then changes the URL to

http://www.4winmobile.com/forums/redirect-to/?redirect=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv %3Duk0xWm8PMGQ

Which won't get matched by AME as it isn't a valid AME URL. I have glanced through your addons, but nothing specifically stands out. It may be a vbseo function to track outbound links, but i'm not too sure (I use vBSEO and mine doesnt do that).

Ok tek, I found it... looks like it is a vBSEO setting to support tracking all outbound links from your forum using Google Analytics.

in your vbseo cp it is the:

Add Google Analytics "Tracking External Link Clicks" Code?

setting. For performance reasons, I would suggest turning this to no unless you need to track outbound links. If you need to have it on, then you will need to disable AME as the two are fighting over the same URL and AME is getting her ass kicked :)

youre right. i installed this, live topic and one other on that list on my test board (where nothing else is installed) and didnt have any troubles. ill dig into things more on my board but if you have any suggestions id appreciate it.

Cheers. The posts did appear as I saw them and the team saw them too. No Mod to prevent posting in place at all. Blinking weird this one!

might be some of the products use the same plugin hook location and have the same execution order. i was getting some conflicts but after talking with david tried changing the execution order of the plugins and got everything to work. im going to try and reinstall this now and see if i can get it to work with everything else now. i also uninstalled a couple other mods i had and werent using.

i got to do more testing on my test board. if i disable several of my other mods, this works no prob. with them and this then i get white pages. take this back off and then some of my other mods start conflicting again.

im sure my probs are unrelated to yours arnyvee. my server guy told me that the server is in need of some upgrading which may or may not be related to any of my problems.

disable your other mods one by one and see if this starts working for you. im just lost on where and why it conflicts and seems to react differently on different boards. i know it shares a global_start hook location with several other mods i have and also a template_groups hook location with a couple. it may not just be a single conflict but only when several other conflicting mods are installed with it.

im gonna keep reading this thread and hopefully you guys can teach me somethin cause i know very little about this stuff.

Some one hit on another valid issue. If you are running 3.81 make sure your server has the latest PHP 5 if possible installed and lastest SQL as well and an Appache Server that also is currrent. Many can move you easily and free if not.

got it working! i uninstalled all the other mods, started with this, then reinstalled the rest and so far everything works without conflict.

if I try to install - 45 minutes nothing happened. I must interrupt the installation every time from the mod.
when I try the forum during the installation menu, I get an error 500. After I've canceled the installation, must I restart sql server. otherwise the forum can no longer call.
in my forum are 30,000 members and 1.2 million threads. this is too much for this mod?
if I cancel the installation, the database can do harm ?

Sounds like you are timing out on adding the flag to the post table. Once thats done, there really isnt a performance hit for the system.

I would suggest installing at a slow time when you can close your board.

i have closed the board, but it will the same effect. i wait 30 minutes but nothing happens - after the 30 minutes i cancelled the installation with the browswer"stop" button. After the break, i must restart the mysql server again.

My best guess is you do not have to do anything you do not wish but you may wish to consider a few things. One is that regardless of what the people whom code up programs say, there are limitations to them like anything else has limitations. Huge Data bases simply become less stable in my experience. Now saying that I do not have a lot of experience here. Still if you can segergate parts of the community off it may be better for all. You can have a coder set you up a seperate database that holds archived threads and also inactive members and not delete any of them but simply put them in a new catagory.

Have you ran your data base tools as well to clean up glitches and such or find errors in the data base query section of your forum?

The reason my coder has been AWOL for such a time is that he and a team are working to correct a 2 Gig Data base that is corrupted and you may well have just minor glitches in yours that caught now could save you worlds of trouble later on.

i seem to have run into a problem with this and editing usergroups. every time i edit a usergroup, a new one is created instead of old one being saved. i have to remove bitfield_automediaembed.xml to get usergroups to save properly.

I just upgraded to 3.8.1. Then added this addon. Then installed the latest vb-Blog 2.0.1 Patch Level 1.

For some reason in the tools area it wont make rebuild an option. When I try to use convert codes it says There are no results. All of the links in my board were converted in Impex so they are just plain text at the moment. When I edit the posts and click save without changing anything, it works perfectly. So a little confused here... everything is verified uploaded.

Let not your heart be troubled. If you have a definition for the link in the AME and you used impex to import, then a simple edit and save will make them all functional.

If you have a gazillion links to convert, I am going to advise you find a competent coder that can run a sql query from your admin panel that will address the non links to links, or a direct data based conversion through other, preferabley programically means. I am also sure a compentent coder can find another and likely a more suitable solution for you. Much depends really if you have more time and inclination or money. Maybe a bunch of members that wish to devide and conquer.

Ok. I am very new to this so be kind.
I imported the product-ame xml file into my "product manager" that went well.

I could not figure out were my "forums directory" was to be able and download the contents of the forum folder.
Were is my forums directory?
(also, why does the "read me" file say to download it into my "forum root file"?)

Jeff I wish to guide you to the paid services section and realize that competent coders there will be grateful for the business and install this and do more for you for 5-10 USD. Not saying you cannot ever get this but from where you are now to getting to where you need to be is going to be a journey that I do not think folks on here will take the time to try to type it all out for you. I just upgraded to 3.8.1. Then added this addon. Then installed the latest vb-Blog 2.0.1 Patch Level 1.

In blog post this happened:

Major trouble: Invalid SQL. UPDATE vb3_blog_text set ame_flag=0 Where ....
Unknown column 'ame_flag' ...
error 1054.

Then the forum really started acting up.

Had to de-activate AME and forum went back to normal.

Check out the rebuild options under the tools menu.

Ok installed fine, but doesnt seem to pick up the youtube link as well. I tried put it in [ame] tags and got it to preview, but when submitted it returned to a youtube link.

I'm sure I have the require options on and all permissions are set.

Please provide the link. If the destination video can not be embeded, AME will show the text with an icon.

For some reason in the tools area it wont make rebuild an option. When I try to use convert codes it says There are no results. All of the links in my board were converted in Impex so they are just plain text at the moment. When I edit the posts and click save without changing anything, it works perfectly. So a little confused here... everything is verified uploaded.

The problem is that ame will hunt out [url] tags for conversion. If all your posts are just text, it wont find any matches :(

Everything works fine except for signatures, checked usergroup permissions and all, just get text link. Is there anything special needed to get these to show? Any site demos that have videos in their sig areas running so we can take a look?

Please check that the videos you are embedding can actually be embedded. If not, AME will only provide a link instead of a broken video.

Is there any known issues with this hack interfering with things like vBulletin 3.8.1, vbSEO or vBAdvanced?
There is a vbSEO option to track outbound links that will prevent AME from working correctly. Turn that off and other than that, it should be fine.

And peeps... please read the FAQ and Readme before posting your problem. 99.9% of the time, the answer IS ALREADY THERE AND WRITTEN FOR YOU. Of course, we have all been guilty of this from time to time, but please don't expect others to rewrite it for you because you can't be bothered to look. Its really frustrating sometimes to have to keep posting the same answer over and over and over. It also detracts from the real issues that need full attention :D

Some one else ask and my forum as well became a turtle speed to post on but we installed about 50 mods hacks and custom codes and such and Geek says this should not slow it at all. I take his word for it but I also need to find what is really slowing mine some day soon.

Yes you have duplicate definitions for this paticular site and maybe more sites or all of them. You will need to remove the duplicate.

What is happening is that when you are submitting a post with one or more definitions in it, AME is fetching the contents of each destination page to extract data (i.e. titles and such). This will only happen when there is an ame match and the definition requests the info. You can however disable extraction per definition or on a global level without a problem (you just lose some of the whistles and bells). Note that some custom definitions may require extraction to be on though.

If it has hooks in the right areas, it shouldn't be a problem. Check out AMEs hooks for visitor messages, social messages, blogs, etc... to get an idea of how easy it is ;)

I doubt the problem is with the file cache (youll get warnings in the AME AdminCP if there is something suspect about your file cache).

I would lay money on the fact that you are trying to embed a video that has external embedding disabled. Check to make sure you can embed the video by looking at the destination page. Otherwise, paste the URL for me to check out.

Dave while I have no answer to your concerns about the coders or the possible laziness or uncaring nature of them to write good code to good standards, I am thankful to you for pointing out the W3 Compliant standard. I chased down my site and found that the very few minor bugs that pop up time to time but not always or predictable were all shown up in the W3 complaincy standard tester.

Our next to do is get our site 100% W3 complaint.

I find it bizzare that all would not wish to have this complaincy when it can resolve a million and one issues.

I've been trying to pinpoint why my AME is not working on my site. The other night I went through all of my mods (and I've got a ton of 'em) and disabled all and posted a link and the link was a regular link. Then, I enabled AME and the long <div> issue came up. So, it's not a modification that is causing the issue apparently. Could it be that something else that I have custom coded or something else is conflicting with AME?

Any suggestions as to what I should look for? Javascript or anything in particular within some coding?

I spotted two problems:

1. The post conversion tools cannot take a timeout of zero. It will countdown to negative maxint. The javascript which controls needs a tweak.

2. If you enter a url into the quickpost box, then click "advanced", the preview of the post does not show the parsed output. Clicking "preview" from the advanced editor will parse the url.

I've tried everything from reinstalling the AME 2.0, to upgrading back to AME 2.5 to reinstalling the latest definitions from DJ's mod and disabling every mod that I have and still nothing is working with AME.

Is there anyone that can give me some suggestions for me to try and get this working?

how do i stop the AME from making links posted in threads read the titles and details of sites?

when i post a link in a thread, its automatically rewriting it to the title of the page i guess of the site the link goes to...how do i disable this?

He is not but hopefully by tomorrow he will have this mile stone reached and can give you 30 minutes.

We will be needing his services for months to come however. We rarely use any code out of the box but have most of it rewritten to our needs. AME is the exception to this rule as it rocks from the box.

He will look into it as soon as he fixes my issues. I have ask him about it. PM him tomorrow some time if you will or in 12 hours from now.

You have Two YouTube definitions. You probably didn't delete the default YouTube definition before importing mine. If you want to keep my definition (which supports deep linking) delete the default definition (All my definitions have a sort order of 1.)

It's not one that I've heard of before. Have you disabled the modification to make sure it still does it when turned off?

Anyone else having weird errors with this update?

I just upgraded to 3.80 last week, and now when ever a user posts a new URL the thread will time out. If they remove the URL it will post just fine.

I think you misunderstood me. on some posts when you click edit, it skips the AJAX quick edit & goes straight to the advanced editor. it's got nothing to do with malware.

Is there a way to insert this code for all definitions so that the lightbox picture viewer bug to be solved ? With this codes, the pictures will no longer be loaded behind the player but over it. Instead of trying to embed a video that wont embed, AME leaves behind a working link. Click on the link, and see what the embed code is.

This has been discussed quite a bit in this thread and the readme.

Its vbSEO, you have it set to track all outbound links which changes links so that AME cant match them. To use AME you will need to disable vbSEO's tracking of all outbound links.

You have to change the Default Width and Height on AdminCP > AME CP > Settings. I use 858x508, works fine for me.

I really can't remember if I change my Youtube definitions (Admin CP > AME CP > DisplayDefinitions > Youtube) so here it goes:
