I tried reading through all 134 pages of this mod but I can't seem to find an answer and my eyes are hurting from all the scanning.

I installed this mod, I decided that I didn't want it so I uninstalled it.

When I did this it broke my site. Now all the pages are all "unstyled"

Background is white, fonts are all messed and the site is just horrible.

It seems to function okay but the removal did something to the look.

What can I do to fix this?

I just updated my site from 3.6 to 3.8, we had version 6 of post thank installed. I downloaded 7.7 today. I read the install instructions and it had no template edits so I went ahead and removed all the template edits I had before. I did the import (overwriting) and it appeared to upgrade fine.

I am having issues now. I see the thanks button but when I click it, it just dissapears. I am also missing the postbit that shows how many times a user has been thanked or has given thanks. Is there anyway to correct this?

Personally, I wouldn't let unregistered users post because of the seemingly limitless spam-bots anyway. They find ways to register and post, I can't imagine how many I'd have if they didn't even have to register.

registration is not open to anyone to be able to post. however the easy form application is what users that are unregistered can use.
now that will make a poll / post into a forum.
so it will come up as unregistered posted.

Loll lots of threads to read in order to find a solution so,
Abe, i have the hack running fine in every template i have on the forum but for one particular one, it's not showing any stats??? I have the button that is out of place but this could be just because the "$template_hook[postbit_controls]" is out of place but as soon as you push it, their is no return on who said thanks and how many to show in posbit_legacy :(

Any idea why? I hope you're still looking at this version since the 4.0 is out lolll

After I installed this mod, I received the following message after trying to "Thank" a post:

404 Not Found

The requested URL /forums/post_thanks.php was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found
error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Took me an hour to figure this out & in the end, I bypassed uploading the initial "post_thanks.php" file. Because all those folders are over the top of it, it's easily missed.

I have a feeling that several members have done the same exact thing.

The coder of the "Thanks" also does a "Groan" one too. Unfortunately, it doesn't deduct a "Thanks" for each groan received. But it is a great hack though. I use BOTH of these on my forum.

On our forum, a few users started hitting the THANK YOU button several times really fast and this way, they are able to leave up to 7 thanks under a single post.

Is there anything we can do to stop it?

I have installed this hack but the thank you button doesn't show. Also, I can't see any code when viewing the page source for the button. It has "Find All Thanked Posts" showing in the Search bar but thats about it.

Here's a query to get you started, but you will probably have to use JOIN (TABLE NAME) and MIN(COLUMN NAME) and MAX(COLUMN NAME) in order to view the results between a period.
SELECT `username`,`post_thanks_thanked_times`
FROM `user`
GROUP BY `post_thanks_thanked_times`,`username`
ORDER BY `post_thanks_thanked_times` DESC
LIMIT 0 , 30

Im not a coder by any means so thats probably the limit of my help :)

Its all allright, but i dont have any Thanks Button in my Forum Posts.

In Admin CP and User Profil look there are no errors and i see also the Thanks from given Thanks ect.

I've uploaded all the files to the correct place. I have button in my styles folder, enabled all ajax features through the general settings.

The problem is, it doesn't show the thank you button. It shows the thank you information in the postbit above my posts, and also in the usercp, but the button in posts doesn't show. I check it with Firebug and I can see the code is there, and the image is in the correct place.

Any idea why it won't show? Running 3.8.4.

I had a similar issue once where I had something like /forums/images/picname.gif instead of just /images/picname.gif

I have managed to reinstall thanks hack & used syntax to update tables from my db back up, but since i have done that one of the tables is not updating it self any more, I?m talking here about Thanked Posts list in UserCp, any ideas how to make it work without another re installation ?

I use vBulletin 3.8.7. I'll upgrade to vB 4.1.3 next days. I used this hack for one or two months but my forum is very big and it was used a lot by my users. Now it's impossible to uninstall it without troubles. How can i do? I just disabled it from my admin panel but i still have tables of it on database.

So we had this and the groan hack, and I had to upgrade to the new one and Vbulletin.

The Post Thanks used to appear on top of the Post groan under a post, but since the update it's the other way around and people are whining/confused by it.

Maybe go to AdminCp>Plugins & Products>Plugin Manager>Post Thankyou Hack, chose the one called postbit_display_start and change the execution order from 5 to 1 and then click save and see if that makes a difference, maybe do the same with postbit_display_complete

I have the groan and thanks mod installed and there most certainly is a postbit_display_start for BOTH mods. Both mods are virtually identical, with "thank" changed to "groan." They have the same plugins on the same hooks.

(Note they are not in the same order though.)

There should be 12 plugins for each mod, I suggest you double check. If you are missing any, re-install the latest version of the thank you hack.

Also I have confirmed changing the execution order of the postbit_display_start plugin does indeed change the order in which is displayed. The one with the lower number will execute first and therefore be on top.

This is strange, I've installed this mod on several sites and never had a problem. Today, I installed it on USHistoryForums.com and I can't get the button to show. I know that the button is located in the right folder with my style and yet it won't show.

It won't even show on my default skin which is very strange. Is this not compatible with 3.8.7? This is the first time I've installed it on that and it's the only thing that I can point to as a possible issue. Thoughts?

I pasted your entire posbit_legacy into a test style on my forum and the like button shows up as expected. Must be some other issue.

I wold go to the postbit_display_complete plugin for this product and try changing the execution order. It is set to 5 usually to start. Try it at 3 or 7 and see if either gets it working.

One way to help make sure I have posts from other users on my test forum was to setup some RSS feeds that make regular post as different users- makes working on things like this a lot easier.

This mod is for vBulletin 3.8 and 3.7. It will NOT work on VB 4.x. Uninstall this mod from your forum and the error will go away. Go download the 4.x version of this mod, it will be in the VB4 Mods section.

Ok let me rephrase what I said :) I know I have a custom folder for images (buttons). I have installed the post thank you files in BOTH FOLDERS - the default AS WELL AS my custom folder. The mod does not work.

Do I have to modify the Post Thank You code in order to point it to a different folder? Or do I need to return my vBulletin install to default folders in order to get the Mod to work?

Ok just to be 100% certain that I am doing this correctly...

I opened the template for post_thanks_button
The original code looked like:

Are you comfortable using phpmyadmin?

I would browse your post_thanks table...

Look for all entries for the postid of the post you posted a picture of...

See how many entries there are... are there 2 or 3? If 3 what username isn't showing up? It might be an invalid character in a username or something, don't know.

If you look at the date Darkness gave the Thank You's they were the exact same second. It's either a browser issue or a user issue- maybe they are double-clicking or something. I don't think there is anything you can do about it short of rewriting the mod code to prevent duplicates.

You are right!

The problem was a javascript tooltip I had installed on my site for the viewing of "thanks" votes. I replace it with a simple css tooltip and now all is ok. I don't understand why it appears problems only on IE9 but anyway...

As you can see there are quite a few... You will need to remove the `". TABLE_PREFIX ." from each one and replace it with your actual table prefix, if any.

They need to be run in the order they are shown.

The queries are the code between the quotes, you would ignore everything in red in this example:

On first install, if you have a large board it will take quite some time to load, however using it afterwards isn't a problem, my forum has around 800,000 posts and page load (even with all my other mods whistles and bells :)) is only around 2.5 seconds for a member and 4 -5 seconds for a guest (due to external ads loading).

What a wounder full addon,
many thanks for it.

i have a little problem though, i have my own customized postbit_legacy,
as will as another plugin " Chief First Post - Every Page [Forum Based] " to keep the first post at the top, on all pages.
for some reason the addon is not showing on the first post.
is there any possibility to add the addon manually to the postbit legacy?

I had an old version of the hack and for some reason spam bots like thanking every post they could is there a way to delete all thanks from members with 0 posts and if not could i just reset or clear all the thanks. also after I upgraded to the newest version of the thank hack half my styles lost the thank you button and the list of thank yous , any clue why?

Running 7.7 and got tons of these spam/hack emails from my board today. Not sure if there is a hole, but found it not good they are trying to execute SQL here:

Edit the template: post_thanks_box_bit

The code that shows the username is:

Edit or remove it.

It happens when you click the button or remove the thank you. However it does the operation and shows this error message, once you refresh the page the error message goes away. I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it however that didn't fix anything. I don't know how to fix this init.php or where to begin. Any suggestions?

Your new host has a later version of PHP installed. Ask the host to turn off PHP deprecated warnings and everything will run normally.

You can also do this by adding

error_reporting(E_ALL & ~E_DEPRECATED);

to the top of your global.php file in the root directory.

A permanent fix is to edit the files; includes/init.php, includes/class_core.php, etc. and on the line the problem is (i.e. on line 101) there should be something like:

$variable =& new Class();

Just remove the &.

Are you sure you have downloaded the version for vb4 as this is a vb3 thread!, if you did download vb4 version when you uploaded did you make sure you used ftp in ASCii mode with overwrite?

I have done a bit of research about the ftp and for me it is very complicated. Simple I download the files to my pc and from there to my vb, control panel. Is it that wrong?!

Is it there any other way to get the thanks feature?

I dont know how to do the ftp upload.Importing a product via the admincp NEVER installs core files on your server, it's purely the front end stuff and templates. Uploading files to your server is done the same way you added your forum software to your server!, thats your problem, you dont have any of the core files to run the product installed.

Download FileZilla, it's easy to use and free.

If you want help you can PM me and we'll discuss it privately where i should be able to upload the files for you.

I've installed this mod on my 3.8.7 pl2 board, "Post Groan Hack 4.1" installed as well, everything works great.

But I have a question about conditionals.
I'd like to hide "reply" buttons and "quick reply" form UNTILL member didn't press "thanks" or "groan" button.

So I've tried to edit templates "showthread" and "showthread_quickreply" by adding this conditional:
<if condition="$post['post_thanks_amount'] == 1">

blah-blah-blah

But it doesn't work.

How can I make it? :confused:

It will never work like you want unless you can program with ajax which if you need to ask you probably can't do. Your code might work if you refresh the page after thanking.

This hack doesn't change or add something in "showthread", that's why I want to know how can I add that kind of conditional in it.

It affects "postbit", so if I add my code in it< everything works, but reply buttons and quick reply formI can't hide from there as you understand :D

I've got another idea =)
Both "thanks" and "groan" hacks are using reputation on my board, +1/-1 point.
So I can add in "showthread" a conditional like

if threadstarter' reputation of his 1-st post has been changed then show reply buttons and quick reply form
else
message like "You have to "thank/groan post first"

Can someone help me with that kind of conditionals?

I tried installing this today on a fairly large board and it seems to have hung before completing installation... after some 10-15 mins it displayed:

This has to modify the post table so it can take a long time. It's possible it may even time out.

I would suggest closing your forum before trying to install again.

You can open the xml file and you will see the queries it tries to run during install- you may try running them manually.

Thanks for the response - I actually "fixed" it by rerunning the install - that went through the ACP skin reload and the final steps in like 2 seconds and everything SEEMS to be working now (*knocks on wood*). Maybe it initially timed out just before completing, or was it the fact that I didn't tick YES on overwrite? I thought that that was relevant only for upgrades, but I did it the second time around for obvious reasons...

Like BOP5 said it does take a long time if you have a large post table, if it timed out then ticking the overwrite was the right thing to do although it may not have completed the whole post table, but if it appears to be working then all well and good :)

Check using phpmyadmin (or whatever you want) to check if you have this field in the post table: post_thanks_amount

Also make sure every entry is set to 0 or a number. You can sort the results by this field and make sure there aren't any empty entries.

In phomyadmin simply "browse" the table... Click on the field name post_thanks_amount and it will sort the column from lowest to highest value. Make sure the first value is zero.

Then click on the post_thanks_amount field again, now it will sort results from highest to lowest... Make sure again that there is a number in that box too.

If the highest and lowest values are both numbers you are good.

Hm... I've got a separate table "vb_post_thanks" and it contains the usernames of the members who have given thanks...

Inside the post table / post_thanks_amount / all I see is this:

Rows post_thanks_amount Ascending

1 1
1 5

Note that only two users have received thanks so far... so does that look right?

The default value for post_thanks_amount was 0 so I think every post (except the 2 that got thanks) should show 0.

But if it's working, don't worry about it.

Does anyone know how to import the thank you hack data from one forum into another?

I'm merging two vB 4.x forums and both use the thank you hack. I want to make sure that when the users are imported from the source forum their thank you stats get imported as well. Any help would be appreciated.

Look for it in the plugin, it will point to a phrase, you can either edit the phrase or remove the call for it in the plugin.

Is there any particular reason why this should stop working? The hack is enabled on my board and I've not made any changes to templates but yet the Thanks button isn't showing any more? :confused:

Can this be uninstalled then reinstalled without loss of counts?

This application is very good.
But, should have a ranking of the: "TOP THANKS", both weekly, monthly and all the time.
Although it is in the plugin 'Cyb - Advanced Forum Statistics" should be an option for the same application. Adding the "top thank of a weekly", "monthly" and "all the time".
