Uninstalling will delete all thanks.
If I may ask, why? Is there a problem or just not longer needed?

If I may ask, why? Is there a problem or just not longer needed?
I was answering a question of someone who asked:
"Can this be uninstalled then reinstalled without loss of counts?"
It is just a fact that if you uninstall a mod you delete all its data.

I have just installed this mod byut I'm having trouble getting the thank you button appearing on anything but the first post. I've reinstalled a couple of times to no avail.
I've tried changing "first post only" setting in the AdminCP a few times with no luck. It's set to off for now which should mean every post has the option.
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2012/08/18.png
Looking at the page source, the first post has <!-- BEGIN TEMPLATE: post_thanks_button --> and <!-- END TEMPLATE: post_thanks_button --> in the <!-- controls --> but the second and subsequent posts dont.
I'm guessing I a hook is missing but I don't know what or where.

Can anyone suggest why it is doing this?

Love this mod. However, I have found that some members really abuse this mod by going around red-thumbing good posts and threads for whatever reason. It would be cool however if you could have a place in the AdminCP where you could enter the user ID of said abuser and then whenever the abuser gives a red thumb, he loses rep himself. :)

The time it takes is to modify the user and post tables- mod would have to be rewritten from scratch to change that.

AdminCP >> Languages & Phrases >> Search in phrases
Enter post_thanks in the top search box
Check Phrase Text and Phrase Variable Name
Case sensitive = No
Exact match = No
You should see several phrases - edit the ones of your choice to whatever you like. :)

I found this code in the /includes/functions_post_thanks.php file and changed the 6 to a 5, it half worked because admin can no longer delete the thanks, but it's still the same for supermods, when the page is refreshed the thanks comes back, I'm lost as to what else I can do to allow mods to delete the thanks. Can anyone help?

Is there a mod or a template edit that will notify you of a new thank you received (where the private message link is in the navbar) and when you click that "Thanks Received" link it will list the thread/post thanked and how many thanks you received?
That would be a really cool addition.

Would someone be able to tell me if I can create a new post thanks table and how?
I installed this mod (7.7 on 3.8.0) briefly, but rec'd user permission errors, so uninstalled/reinstalled xml w/overwrite in the product manager. But that caused fatal errors showing that no post thanks table exists.
Should I have uninstalled/reinstalled from the server level also? Should I try to uninstall/reinstall xml in product manager again? Which file creates the table, and will it create another one with another install?
No backup available, and have since upgraded the forum to 3.8.5 after breaking this mod. :D
Thanks so much for any help!!!
Simon Lloyd
03-21-2013, 07:43 PM
Firstly uninstall everything including any files you uploaded, drop any post_thanks tables fromyour database.
Re-upload any files via ftp in ascii mode, re-import the xml, if you have a large board this is going to take some time and may make your board unresponsive, if you find that it crashes during installation you'll have to get your hosts to "up" the wait_timeout (this is the wait time that your server allows for scripts to complete), then do all the above again.

This has been addressed before, this may help you.
I was able to fix the depreciated errors, open "post_thanks.php",
replace
error_reporting(E_ALL & ~E_NOTICE);with
error_reporting(E_ALL ^ E_DEPRECATED);doesn't really replace or fix the depreciated code, but, at least it works.

How did you install it? as for the php errors it depends whether you have a dedicated box or not.
testerv
10-08-2013, 06:18 PM
I tried to follow these instructions when installing it:
Post Thank You Hack version 7.7
FOR UPGRADE AND FRESH INSTALLATIONS!
1) upload the 'upload via ftp' folder
--------------------------------------------------------------------
post_thanks.php -> \
post_thanks_admin.php -> \admincp\
post_thanks.js -> \clientscript\
functions_post_thanks.php -> \includes\
cpnav_post_thanks.xml -> \includes\xml\
hooks_post_thanks.xml -> \includes\xml\
post_thanks.gif -> \images\buttons\ (and into EVERY "buttons" folder in every style you have)
--------------------------------------------------------------------
2) Import product-post_thanks.xml into PRODUCTS. Allow Overwrite "YES" (admincp -> Plugin System -> Manage Products -> [Add/Import Product])
I think I uploaded everything in the correct folder.
I don't know what a dedicated box is. My host put me on a shared server, if that is what you are talking about.
Simon Lloyd
10-08-2013, 07:49 PM
Ok for the php errors you'd have to get your hosts to disable php errors. The reason i asked how you added the mod is because it's very odd to have the entire plugin shown in your forum header, it looks like the whole php output.
Can we have a url to check..etc
testerv
10-08-2013, 08:29 PM
Is it odd that the code I posted in post #2314 didn't include the letter "T" for the word "Thanks"? Could that be part of the problem?
Does it look like I installed something in the wrong folder?
The code that I posted in 2314 only displays when I enable the hack. I have it disabled now.
Simon Lloyd
10-08-2013, 11:15 PM
i'd need to be able to see where the hack is installed ....etc to be able to answer properly or it could be that another mod is interfering with it, however it rarely gets it to dump the entire plugin to the page.
PM me admincp login details with permissions to administer plugins if you want me to take a look.
testerv

I have since uninstalled the .xml product but am still getting those emails...maybe there is a lag between the error occurring and me receiving the email. Hopefully the emails will stop soon.
Any idea why I am getting an error about the table not existing?
thanks.

I'm still getting the 'table not existing' emails so I will delete the files and see if that helps.

I'm still getting the 'table not existing' emails so I will delete the files and see if that helps.
It's odd that I've deleted all the files that I uploaded and uninstalled the product and I am still gettting error messages that state the forum.post_thanks table doesn't exist.
I would almost guarantee that the issue is with my lousy host.
Simon Lloyd

If you have a big board it's probably because the installation sequence is still running where it attempts to index each post and check for thanks while building the thanks table and as the table for that now doesn't exist because you've uninstalled it you are now getting the errors.
testerv
10-09-2013, 04:40 PM
IS there a way to stop that installation sequence?
Simon Lloyd
10-09-2013, 05:05 PM
You'd have to find the process on your server and kill it either through the server control panel like plesk or using ssh....etc or just wait until it bottoms out.
There may be remnants of the installleft behind which is causing the action, i suggest, close your board, upload the files, reinstall the product, wait for the processes to finish then uninstall.
testerv
10-09-2013, 06:03 PM
How do I know when the process is finished? Are we talking about the process of indexing or the process of the uninstall?
Simon Lloyd
10-09-2013, 08:15 PM
processes of indexing. If you install it again it may even correct the issue, but remember with a big board it can take some time and even time out, if it does just start the install again and it should happen quite quickly.
You'd have to check your server for the processes to see whats running.

My board in miniature at best. I'm sure this started due to an issue at my host. It usually times out when I try to upload or install something.

in that case the have the timeouts set too low, or the max_packet set too low

This is caused by using PHP Version >= 5.3.x - Silencing the error inside the post_thanks.php should not be the final solution, since the problem is still there, you only dont see it anymore.
It says the plugin is not supported anymore - any chance somebody else could upgrade the script so that we can use it with newer PHP Versions?

I was able to fix the depreciated errors, open "post_thanks.php",
replace
error_reporting(E_ALL & ~E_NOTICE);with
error_reporting(E_ALL ^ E_DEPRECATED);doesn't really replace or fix the depreciated code, but, at least it works.That code is in my post_thanks.php file but I'm still getting the above errors. :(
Simon Lloyd

You need to turn off error reporting on your server in your php.ini and turn "display_errors = off"

This isn't the search bug.
The error is because there are no numbers between the parentheses...

Unfortunately I do not know why it is happening or how to fix it- make sure there are some liked posts.

Making the following changes caused the Post Thanks hack to start working again on my 3.8.11 installation. Note: I haven't tested extensively beyond seeing that I could give thanks and delete it from one other member's post.
GIANT DISCLAIMER: I am not an expert coder. I occasionally muck around in PHP and sometimes understand what I'm doing.
Apply this fix AT YOUR OWN RISK. I can't help if it doesn't work for you.
The changes below refer to Post Thank You Hack version 7.6 only.
1) Back up a copy of your original 7.6 file in /forum/includes/functions_post_thanks.php in case this gets all screwed up.
2) Open the file in your favourite editor.
3) Starting at line 178, replace this...
if ($postids)
{
$post_ids = "0$postids";
}
else
{
$post_ids = $postid;
}
... with this:
if (empty($postids))
{
$postids[] = $postid;
}
4) A few lines below that (originally at line 189, but moved down due to the changes above), replace the this line ...
$thanks = $vbulletin->db->query_read("SELECT * FROM " .TABLE_PREFIX. "post_thanks AS post_thanks INNER JOIN " .TABLE_PREFIX. "user AS user USING (userid) WHERE post_thanks.postid IN (" . $post_ids . ") ORDER BY post_thanks.username ASC");

... with this:
$thanks = $vbulletin->db->query_read("SELECT * FROM " .TABLE_PREFIX. "post_thanks WHERE postid IN (" . implode(',', $postids) . ") ORDER BY username ASC");

Anyone know why when I enable this plugin on my vBulletin 3.8.9 - when I try and view or create a thread, I get a http 500 error? Yet when it's disabled, no problems at all? I've been in touch with my host all day and we've tried everything but we're not sure what else it could be?

We need to know what the database error is.
Database error in vBulletin 3.8.11:
Invalid SQL:
SELECT * FROM post_thanks AS post_thanks INNER JOIN user AS user USING (userid) WHERE post_thanks.postid IN (0Array) ORDER BY post_thanks.username ASC;
MySQL Error : Unknown column '0Array' in 'where clause'
I'm getting this when I install for 3.8.11

Folks, this plugin supports PHP 7.4 as long as you follow PHP warnings to fix constant names to make sure they are quoted.

This component in the plugin for postbit_display_start throws an error in PHP 7.3:
eval('$template_hook[postbit_end] .= " ' . fetch_template('post_thanks_box') . '";');
Error:
PHP Warning: Use of undefined constant postbit_end - assumed 'postbit_end' (this will throw an Error in a future version of PHP) in ..../includes/class_postbit.php(268) : eval()'d code(23) : eval()'d code on line 1
All you need do is add some quotes around postbit_end:
eval('$template_hook["postbit_end"] .= " ' . fetch_template('post_thanks_box') . '";');
