My Problem Solved ! Just Download the older version from attachments and downgrade to that version ( replace the javascript file and upload xml file ( overwrite = Enable ) in Admin CP ...

I have a problem with this mod after upgrading the forums and upgrading the mod after that. I've attempted to uninstall the mod and reinstall but with no luck.

What happens is when the hack is active all users (and admins) see is the Login screen asking uers to login. This only occurs at the postbit level. The templates have been reverted but no joy.

Would really appreciate some help.

So true. Mine being a dog site I changed the phrases from Thanks to Treats, so now the members give each other Treats. They love it, and its a great way to show which members are contributing.

I have some problem with the counter of our thanks statistics.
Our forum have a automatic prune and this delete posts every day to clean up.
All the thanks that is given to people, will be also deleted in our thanks statistics.
But i have set this option out:

Do you want to remove user's thanks count when you delete a post/thread? Setting this option no will make it that a user's post thanks count does not go down if you delete a post. You will have to delete the thanks before you delete the post/thread if you want the post thanks count to go down. If you use the post thanks recounter, any thanks given that were deleted will not be counted.

What is the problem ?

I have recently moved to another server I did a clean install of vbulletin 3.7.4 . So now there are two databases, one from the old forum and one from the new one. I used ImPEx and got all data from the old to the new one, but after installing this mod all posta-thanks counters of all members have gone away. I mean everyone has 0 thanks.. Is there any way to import the post_thanks data table from the old database to the new one so that everybody will have their number of thanks?

I have been getting a MySQL error for a few days, on an off. Always related to Post_thanks. I am on 3.73, and yesterday updated from version 7.6 to 7.7 of post thanks to see if it would make a difference. It didn't.

This doesn't happen every time a thanks is given. Also, for comletely unrelated reasons my VPS was moved last night to a new hardware node, so this has happened on two different underlying hardware nodes.

I also optimized the MySQL tables to see if there was any issue there:

make sure you move the post_thanks table and then use the post thanks recounters.

Nice mod! I think this will meet our desires with a small tweak.

I'm not overly familar with vB mods programming yet and I've been poking around the files, but I'm not sure if I can even get this info..

Basically I would like to remove the box below each post (postbit_end I guess is where it hooks) that has been thanked and instead have something in the user info (postbit_userinfo_right_after_posts hook maybe), and not a list of users but a count of thanks instead.

Easy to do maybe with a simple template modification and a phrase (not sure how phrases work yet)? Or would I have to modify the code of the add-on itself?

EDIT: In the icon and title area would be better I think (for postbit legacy), there's no hook there though. Does that mean I couldn't do it, or just mean that I would have to modify my template?

No, the instructions didn't come with any template changes. I only did what the instructions said to do.

I do have a custom theme, and am using VB 3.7.4 fi that tells you anything.

I'm sorry, but i dont see how that mysql has nothing to do with the post thanks hack.

It was the "thanks" in "reportthanks" phrase which made me think it was related to the post thanks hack. As it is, it turns out that regardless of what the SQL statement was related to, it was an underlying problem with the VPS hardware node.

Ok, I have now got this to work.... sort off :)

In the default vB 3.7.1 skin, all features work, and it shows "thanked x in x posts", but in my custom skin, this wording does not appear under the username/stats on the left hand side in the postbit. All other features appear OK.

Do I need to add anything to my custom skin to make this appear? if so what do I need to add?

If anyone's curious, I figured this out myself using the Bump Threads (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=97165) mod. It's very simply to make hitting thanks bump the thread.

First, open post_thanks.php. Find this line:

if ($_REQUEST['do'] == 'post_thanks_add')

Inside that if block, find this line:

if ($using_ajax)

Right above that line, add this small chunk of code:

$threadman =& datamanager_init('Thread', $vbulletin, ERRTYPE_ARRAY, 'threadpost');
$threadman->set_existing($threadinfo);
$threadman->set('lastpost', TIMENOW);
$threadman->save();

The thread will now be bumped to the top upon hitting thanks. :)

A note to the mod writer: this is a handy feature, and it'd be trivial to add an option in the admin panel to enable/disable the bumping of threads upon hitting thanks. Love the plugin. :)

Doomday you need to find if there's some conditional operator for "if thread open" or "if thread closed".
And if not, create one. Not the best answer you were looking for but its a step in the right direction.. If you wrap the button code in a conditional to display it or not based on if the thread is open or closed, that should do the trick for you.

I fixed this issue it looked like an upgrade problem. I started over with the test board and uninstalled the old mod before installing. Of course after removing the DB uninstall code so I wouldn't lose my previous thanks.

I also have quite a big problem...

Although the hack has been working fine until now, we had a few users join who were giving each other a large amount of thanks to bump their numbers up (I now have imited max thanks per day..)

But I reset the 'thanks given' by one of the users, and then reset all of the counters

but the thanks number of 201 still remains for this user and the one user he had been thanking??

has anyone else had this>?

Ok, I have now got this to work.... sort off :)

In the default vB 3.7.1 skin, all features work, and it shows "thanked x in x posts", but in my custom skin, this wording does not appear under the username/stats on the left hand side in the postbit. All other features appear OK.

Do I need to add anything to my custom skin to make this appear? if so what do I need to add?

Yes, you need to add the $template_hook varibales. Use the compare template option that vb has by the templates.

You're better better off using 'small' tags around the text.

Make sure you put the thanks button in the button folder of your styles also.

Are you sure the files you have are up-to-date? I know this feature is working right now. You have to just put the userID of the user you want to remove all their thanks given.

I love the idea of cutting back on useless drivel in my forum, but I have a few other ideas with it, rather than just a "thank you" (Think bug tracking. 1 version showing "Me too" to show other users experience the same bug, and another showing "not me" to indicate they do not see the same results). So far, I've been trying to work on replacing text strings in your code, but it's tedious at the best (due to "thanks", "thank", and "thank you" strings being mixed. If you feel me customizing the mod is not appropriate, please let me know).

2) What would you estimate performance impact to be if the mod would be installed numerous times on the same site? If I enable a speciic "flavour" of the mod for a specific subforum (sometimes twice for the same sub forum, as in "good" or" bad", etc), will the code be able to rely on a cached index of the specific subforums a mod applies to, or will say, 10 different uses of the mod each on their specific sub forum lead to 10 extra queries for every post made on the site as a whole?

Thanks for the reply :) Any plans for adding caching later? As for the posts vs threads thing, I plan on implementing it only on a first-post per thread basis. Hence the question to see if it's possible to have the total count show up in thread listings. for easy sorting purposes. I guess I could manually build a query to supply third parties with this info, but it would be awesome if this would be available "out of the box".

I think the problem is the browser, i use Firefox normally, but to test this hack i was using IE. Maybe cookies? With Firefox works just fine.

I am having the same issue with the page refreshing for each Thank You. It's definitely a page refresh since you can hit the Back button X number of times that you Thanked someone.

I ended up with ver 7.7 with my upgrade to 3.7.4PL1 the previous version was removed before the upgrade. The js file is the 7.7 version. All my users are having this issue.

This worked for me.
The only issue I have is the "Show all thanked threads" doesn't work. It never loads. I have 40 thousand total threads. Would that make a difference?

Hey everyone I can help out a bit here since I have modified the thanks system a bit on my forum.

For people wanting to change the phrases:

Goto the Phrase Manager -> Search Phrases -> "thanked"
post_thanks_times_posts

The standard phrase is: Thanked {1} Times in {2} Posts

If you want to remove the Thanked: X in X posts... replace the phrase with: Thank: {1}

What this will do is display

Thanks: X

Looks much better in my opinion.

Now to post JUST the Thanks part in the post bit and none of the other garbage here is the code below.

I attached a screen shot. The thanks are labeled "treats" on my forum.
Sorry this is such an old post...but where do I add this code? I want it to look like that, next to the posts. I changed the phrase and it still shows everything and I have no idea how to just show the 'thanks' and then move it up near the posts...any help would be great :)

This is one of the errors I'm receiving. I've re-installed the product and re-copied the files just to be sure but this error continually comes up when clicking the post thanks button.

The table, 'dennis1_vBulletin.post_thanks' does exist

Database error in vBulletin 3.8.0:

Between this and the Groan modifications.... I wouldn't install either of them until the bugs have been worked out. When these two mods are installed, my site starts doing really strange things... Posts vanish then re-appear, numerous mySQL error messages, File's cannot be found messages (but only sometimes). They are just too buggy.... Too bad because I've always like these two mods and my users are crying that they are gone.

Does this change anything on the post table in the db? Ours is HUGE, and it seems to be doing nothing after I import the xml. It sits there at "Importing Product, Please Wait..." . The browser's "page load" indication has stopped running as well for that page.

I can check the mysql processlist, if someone can tell me what I should be looking for.

Im using this brilliant hack long time ago, but recently discovered that when unifying consecutive posts of the same user, with thanks in each of the posts, the thanks are not unified neither accumulate, instead the thanks are being deleted. Which is a big problem in my community.

Any idea how to solve this issue?

I just installed this new v7.7, my product page showed I had v5.3 installed, and when installing this version, to upgrade, I now have every members "thanks" and "thanked" counts reset to zero???

Now I gotta go grab those tables from the DB backup and restore the users table thanks and thanked...

Any idea what happened?

I just upgraded a few days ago from vb3.6.1, to 3.8.0 stable, and the original thanks buttons and thread statistics all vanished too, thus I figured that was down to reverting the templates that priginally had to be hacked 2+ years ago when I first installed this..

Using this with vB 3.8 and it's working.

One minor bug: In the Admin CP, there's an item under the Post Thanks menu titled Post Thanks Settings but clicking on it just brings up a blank page with nothing but the vB version and copyright line.

The settings are all there in vBulletin Options, however.

Someone anyone please help. I am a new user and have never installed a hack successfully. I have managed to upload and install 2 versions of VB so I'm not slow. However, I know that I am not installing these files in the right directory. The instructions "upload via ftp folder" does not tell me where to install these files on the server. I uploaded into the "forums" directory and somehow I believe this was not the right way to go about it. I'm not lazy. I've been reading the VB Manual, this thread and googling to no avail. I just need to get past this basic threshold because I'd eventually like to be able to do these on my own.

If someone could just break that out for me, I feel that I will well be on my way. We were all newbies at one point. Please help a newbie out.

i have installed this on my forum that i am working to get ready, however i have installed this mod from here and did all the import FTPing of all the files and images. but what i am having is that the post thank you buttons are not showing up at all on them. i am using postbit legacy, is it designed for postbit only. i prefer postbit legacy instead, might this be the problem? hopefully i can get help on this, and yes i have installed quite a bit of mods before, but this and the groan hack are 2 that i want to install but doesn't show up. oh just in case that i am missing, i am using the royalflush skin as well.

if you read fully what i put, i put them in both the skin folder and the folder images folder as well. I do have a great understanding of how most hacks work. :rolleyes: and yes i followed the instructions as well. also, i don't recall you being the developer ;)

never said that, but i like i had said was that i have installed many other hack more complex than this. but i uploaded the images and all the files accordingly, i upload the images to the root images and the royal flush images folder as well.

To remove it disable the "Post Thank You Hack" plugin on the "global_setup_complete" hook.

To move it you may need to edit your google search box plugin/template edit. Chances are it's a template edit and not a plugin so go into th navbar template, find it, and move it UNDER "$template_hook[navbar_search_menu]"

Is there a possibility that you can add another option to the config of this? I'd like to have a box where I can enter in usergroups that are exempt from the maximum thanks per day setting. My forums makes use of a Core Admin group (which is not the normal admin group renamed), which have access above that of the normal admins. I'm not sure if Admins are already exempt, but I'd like to include this core admin group to be exempt as well, if possible.

Same goes for administration of the thanks/groans... Admins can, but core admins can't. Is there a way to fix this, even if I have to hack files or something?

Just a suggestion... hope you add it in the next version!

My forum uses the 7.7 version for 3.7.X series before I upgrade the forum to 3.8.1. I'd like to ask if the 7.7 version for 3.7.X and the one for 3.8.X is currently the same? Because if there are not change in codes, I won't need the hassle to upgrade it again since I do have to do some phrase customizations.

Also note that whenever this hack is enable my Signature font shrink in size... and it grow back to normal once disable... creepy stuff.

1) Only enable it for the first post in each thread
2) Figure out a way to hide the the list of usernames thanking a post until it's expanded or something so that it doesn't take up much vertical space in the thread or clutter up a thread with more text

Is there a method for doing #2?

It'd be great even if inside the post itself at the bottom it had in small text: "This post was thanked X times" and only when that was clicked it would pop up a list of users thanking that post.

I just removed the box altogether. Not sure if this works for you or not:

To remove the thanks box from under posts:
styles & templates>edit templates>post thank you hack templates>post_thanks_box
make it blank

To put the remove thanks options in your postbit so you maintain the ability to remove posts:
styles & templates>edit templates>post thank you hack templates>post_thanks_postbit_info

add the following to the end of the existing code:

VB 3.8.1 and no thanks button. Verified it's in the ../buttons folder and re'upped it just in case as binary instead of FTP auto checking. Nada. Just the word "Thanks".

Has anyone with a larger forum had problems installing this? I have about 3.5 million posts and about 145k members and when I do a new install into v3.7 rc-2 and hit import (xml) the screen goes blank and seems to hang there until it times out.

I had no problems at all installing it into a beta 3 forum with about 500,000 posts and then upgrading the forum to rc-2. Went very smoothly.

I know this is from a while ago, but I didn't see this issue addressed after your post.

We've got about the same number of posts and I had trouble on our test forum with the Admin CP timing out during installation. Installation adds a column to the post table. I went to the CL and added the column via mysql (took 18:22), then used the vBulletin install procedure which didn't seem to mind that the column already existed and added the columns to the user table without a complaint. Will install on production forum (along with groan) assuming all tests out - thanks!

After upgrade (overwriting as instructed) some members are getting the same, "you do not have permission to access this page" error message as others have mentioned there.

It's also loading differently for some... for some it's the same (no refresh of the page) and for some the page refreshes.

I'd really appreciate some help with this. My members enjoy it now that they're used to it so I'd hate to have to disable or uninstall it. :(

Did a search, couldn't find the answer. Seems that the Post Thank You button has proper cell spacing on the left of it but the right of it butts right up against my Blog This button. All the button in the post bit have the right spacing with the exception of this hack.

How can i add the proper spacing to this and/or move this back to the far right.

Hello I am having some problems with my forum (not being able to turn it off and censorship) so I went to un install my plugins to troubleshoot it but after uninstalling this post thank you hack I am now getting database errors when trying to view posts.

I had to disable the mod, as when it's enabled, and you try to click a post you get the explorer blank page. I'm guessing it's not a compatible plug in with 3.8.1? Bummer, we really liked it.

Yes, this was due to the post groan hack on our forum. People didn't like the groan so we disabled it. If it was still integrated in the vb settings, it caused the page refresh. Disable post grown and or remove it but make sure you de-integrate it in your vbsettings. If you need a hand feel free to PM me.

Becky, it is OK with 3.8.1 it's just quirky. Disable post grown integration and turn it off and you should be OK.

Love this hack.

I need to suggest that the settings should include a usergroups permission input box so different usergroups can be given access to the "remove all thanks" in any particular post.

I use two different admin usergroups, each with different levels of accesses, and the second admin usergroup I created, doesnt get the access to delete 'thanks' in posts, like the original admin usergroup.

Right now, there is no option to add a usergroup, and I really need one.

Tested at debug site. Some comments:

1. Function "find all thanked posts" causes full scan, because lack of indexes. Very slow.
2. Unable to remove that link (and access via URL) in setting.
3. It would be nice to have option "disable hack for guests" (to hide all thanks and so on). That's good for SEO.
