Im having an issue, when I hit thanks the thanks button disappears and this error popup message happens:

I have added a new theme and now every time a user click thanks, there thanks does go up but that little box under the post that was thanked that shows users that have thanked the post does not show up. Whats the code to make this show up and where do I place it?

We just installed this hack. Here's a comment from a member:
"Yeah, I think it would be better if it took up less room. My eye keeps getting drawn to who is thanking who when I'm not that interested! The one on the other forum I'm on just says how many times someone has been thanked and if you want to know who thanked them for the post you can click on it to see which forum members thanked them so it's less distracting. "

Another comment: "I think it might work better if it puts the "thanks" in the post, rather than just underneath it if it's trying to make things more readable, less scrolling down and all that."

Will this hack be updated to allow a less visible way of showing how many thankyous a post have received, and without creating something which appears as a new post below the post in question? The bold font style make this extra visible.
Or should I check out other 3.8 compatible thankyou hacks (if there are any)? If the text ("The Following 5 Users Say Thank You to *** For This Useful Post:") would be inside the post, it would already need less room/height to be shown, due to the wider space in the post than in the margin, and I'm pretty sure that bold isn't needed...

I have 3.8.1 haven't upgraded yet to 3.8.2, but even with 3.8.1 after I installed thank you hack and tested it by trying to thank a post I got a CRAZY long error sort of strip down the middle of the page.

Just installed this on a 3.8.2 installation and it works.

BUT I had a previous version for 3.7 and I just removed it instead. I'm sure it's the upgrading process that causes problems, but on a FRESH install of 3.8.2 it seems to work so far.

I updated to 3.8.2

I reinstalled the entire Thank you Hack, and overwrote everything. One thing I did notice is that I had installed the code

$template_hook[profile_stats_pregeneral]

which seemed to be for older versions of vbulletin only. I deleted that modification to the memberinfo_block_statistics
template.

Made no difference, I still get the same big error message I posted above in post #1535. I have disabled Thank You Hack for now, it does not work for me.

I've had reputation turned off forever and used Post Thanks instead. Now I want to turn reputation on in conjunction with this mod, so I'm wondering: Is there any way to recount the reputation to include all posts that have ever been thanked?

Well, I guess all that needed was a little more time to figure it out -- apologies for jumping the gun. In case it's useful for others, here's what worked for me...


Step 1: create a plugin with hook location forumdisplay_query and the code
$hook_query_fields .= ", thread.firstpostid AS firstpostid";
This makes the thread's firstpostid available in threadbit.


Step 2: create a plugin with hook location threadbit_display and the code
$firstpostinfo = fetch_postinfo($thread[firstpostid]);
$thread_thanks_amount = $firstpostinfo[post_thanks_amount];
This makes the number of thank-yous applied to the thread's first post available to the threadbit template.

Step 3: use $thread_thanks_amount in the threadbit template to your heart's content.

No template edits necessary. Search for what you have now in Phrases (from your Admin CP). Then edit the phrase to whatever you want to make it shorter.

I have this installed, upgraded from 3.7.4 t0 3.8.2 with no problems. Still works great.

Something weird going on on my board.

I've been using this mod for quite some time now, and I've never seen this before. A couple of times, someone has thanked another member and this appears:

The Following 4,294,967,295 Users Say Thank You to (user's name) For This Useful Post

(I've replaced the "user's name" here.)

Now I don't have +4 billion users, and after removing the user's thanks - the statement remains under the "thanked" post. :confused:

I can't seem to replicate this anywhere. It's only happened a couple of times.

I'm using Thanks 7.6 on vBull 3.71 PL2

I double checked and all items are uploaded as described. The Thanks is visible under the post but there used to also be a notice that showed up that you had new rep comments and when you went to your usercp, you could see who thanked you. It is this part that does not work now. :confused:

admincp -> styles and templates -> 'postbit' or 'postbit_legacy (depending on what you have selected for users to see)

you need to find "$template_hook[postbit_userinfo_right_after_posts]"
Look at the other post info and see what it is being wrapped with in your style.

Example of how a custom style uses .css to wrap it.

Yes, this was due to the post groan hack on our forum. People didn't like the groan so we disabled it. If it was still integrated in the vb settings, it caused the page refresh. Disable post grown and or remove it but make sure you de-integrate it in your vbsettings. If you need a hand feel free to PM me.

Tested at debug site. Some comments:

1. Function "find all thanked posts" causes full scan, because lack of indexes. Very slow.
2. Unable to remove that link (and access via URL) in setting.
3. It would be nice to have option "disable hack for guests" (to hide all thanks and so on). That's good for SEO.

Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

Edit: After it does that the thanks are still visible where they thanked, if that makes sense!!

When I began to import the product, it was taking a looooong time so i stopped the script through the browser (or, at least, i thought that i was stopping it).

The POST table stopped working (didn?t accept new posts, perhaps it was locked??) and server load INCREASED A LOT, it was TERRIBLY HIGH. I closed the forums.

The POST table was repaired through SSH several hours after the disaster. :)

Incredibly, when the forum was again up and running, i realized that the installation of the hack had been succesful! :D

It is working now. I have just upgraded to 3.8.3 from 3.8.2 and it is running fine.

I would reinstall it - copy over the files and reinstall the xml with overwrite.

If that does not cure it then it might be conflicting with other hacks/addons you have running so disable one at a time until you work out which is causing the problem!

It's working just fine for me with 3.83 (on two separate installations). If it's working for you, I don't see any reason to disable it.

Try searching for "secjurity token" here and at vbulletin.com. I recall that this was added to vB a while back and that several add-ons were affected by the change. There was a fix posted somewhere... just can't recall where now.

I just upgraded our forum to 3.8.3 and upgraded this hack from 7.4 to 7.7. With both versions of this hack, AJAX doesn't seem to be working. After hitting Thanks, the page has to refresh everytime.

AJAX is working with other features, and it is enabled in the AdminCP.

Any ideas?

Are you using a self made template? If you do plz put the thanks button in this file:

/public_html/styles/Your Template name here!/images/buttons

Put the thanks button in the buttons map.

The red X image is only show to the people using IE right? Thats because IE sucks. It allways shows a X images and firefox shows nothing or a link.

If your using IE right click on the image --> properties and check the the link in the new pop up. Put the images your missing in the map you see in the link.

I hope this will solve your problems.

And make sure the name of the thanks or groan button is post_groan.gif or post_thanks.gif

There is a serious bug which has effect on forums which have several languages on them.

The problem is with actions:


Remove Your Thanks
Remove All


The effected file is:

As you can see you use $vbphrase[post_thanks_thanked_post].

But for every language it has it's own "variable".

For English it will be "Thanked Post".
For German it will be "Dankte Post".
For Russian it will be "Сообщение с благодарностью".
etc.

So if Admin uses English and will hit 'Remove All' then only English reputation comments with points will be deleted. All other languages reputation comments with points will not be deleted.

The same for normal user.
If he will give Thanks You in one Language,
then switch to another language
and then will hit remove his thanks,
the reputation comment with points will not be deleted.

I am thinking for two days how to fix this one.

Of course we can try to search for all languages variables but the problem is that language variables can be changeable.
So this is not a clear decision.

We can also remove
AND reason = '$vbphrase[post_thanks_thanked_post]'
But this will delete normal reputation comments.

The only "fix" for this one I see is to have another table with comments' IDs which where given by pressing "Thank You" button.

This will be the best and as I can see the only one correct variant.

P.S. The same for [AJAX] Post Groan Hack.

Guys!, i followed the instructions here and installed this on vb3.8.2 i'm now using 3.8.4 with no problems everything installed as it should, i guess if you are having problems it must be a problem with another hack/mod you are using, all i changed for mine was a phrase to show more than "Thanks" in the postbit.

I've searched this thread but couldn't find an appropriate answer to what seems to be a bug in either my installation or the hack itself.

When a regular user deletes his/her own message, and the message contains one or more thanks (given by other members), the counters are not updated to reflect that, i.e. the total number of thanks received for that user remains unchanged. If a mod removes the message, though, the counters are updated accordingly.

Can anybody reproduce this?

I got a problem and i hope you can help me fix it:

MySQL Error : SELECT command denied to user 'iwsgamin_iwsvb'@'localhost' for column 'userid' in table 'post_thanks'
Error Number : 1143

I have made no changes to my site. This morning it was working fine, now I get the same error.

This just means that user 'iwsgamin_iwsvb'@'localhost' can't use SELECT command.
Ask you hoster why.

this hack works with 3.8.4 install the hack then install My "Thank You Hack" Postbit Template ,Version: 1.00, by Boosted Panda. and it works great. but with my style the thanks button image is not all there. (just a box with a red cross and thanks in it.)

This means the button image is not in the right directory. Right-click on the red X and look at the Properties. It will show you the path and file name it is looking for. Place the fil in the correct spot, or create a button that matches your style with the correct filename and place in appropriate directory.

Would still like to find a way to have a post marked New once it has been thanked or to have the author of the post PM'd or otherwise notified when their post is thanked. Maybe a New Thanks notification with the rest of the options on the Notifications menu?

Yes upload the files to your ftp, they are in the zip file you downloaded for a reason.

Shows how many thanks a user got - if this = 0, do not show this line at all (in a User's Posts).

They need to be independent conditionals for both of those

A) Provide the user a notification when they receive a thanks, much like the new PM, new comment or new friend request notifications

B) Mark the message that was thanked as unread so it shows up under New Posts

Ditto that, going to go back in and remove it, and reload it. Maybe something got hosed up.

** edit nope, still not even showing its installed. I see the options in admin panel, but nothing is showing on the boards. VB 3.8.3

I asked my host, and the db user does have access.
They said there had been no changes on the server, and I haven't made any changes to the forum.
All was well, then I started getting the db errors.
Any other suggestions?

In Postbit? Its above the AIM,YIM,MSN icons I want it to be below it just looks cleaner. I looked i postbit templates couldnt find a trace of thanks to move it down.

What am I doing wrong. I copied all the files on the server. I installed the "post_thanks_7-7_de.xml" and added "$template_hook[postbit_controls_left]" to postbit & "$template_hook[postbit_controls_left]" to postbit_legacy, but the "Thanks" Button does not appear!
In the Userprofile / Statistics I can see the informations of the hack, but no button at all? Someone an idea?

I made a "Thanks button" pack some time ago,it has several different styles and colors of thanks buttons...nothing too fancy but it can come in handy.
