I guess all these posts show just how popular this hack is.

Overwriting with 7.4 did the trick for me. Although it's a little buggy, I'll just avoid doing any Remove all's until a new update is available. Happily, I don't seem to have the type of folk who will try to take advantage of the image exploit ;)

I have a query. perhaps it is more a possible incorporation:


it?s possible that "thank you" system , have a limit for the thanks given to the same user? something like the reputation system , which requires a user for give back to the same user having to spread in others.
there is some way for the added reputation, that utilize the user reppower rather than a preset on the admin panel?

You're probably missing a hook. I would create a new style (default vb) and make it not user selectable. Then go into it and find the hook you're missing. Then add that hook into your custom template. Once that's done you should be able to reinstall the product for it to work right.

bcz you might have installed hide hack previously and i think it's not compatible with this mod now.

Hi, would it be possible to show forum members how many Thanks (and Groans) they have available to them and/or a notification when they have used up their daily quota of Thanks (and Groans).

Maybe something next to the Thanks button in the PostBit, warning them when they have (for example) < 10, < 5 and 0 Thanks left to issue.

We limit our forum members to 20 Thanks (and 20 Groans) per day - they can be an unruly bunch - and occasionally get "bug reports" that the forum is broken as a member has gone on a Thanking spree, which is why we have the limit! :)

Actually I am running a monthly competition using the thanks count - which makes sense cause thanked people are the ones who are putting up the most constructive posts. They also get home page profile name display along with their scores for the month.

But there needs to be some checks to make sure that people are not creating multiple accounts and thanking themselves - I am using the "Post Thank You" with minimum 10 posts for the feature to be available but there may still be people in groups - as I run a educational forum there are many student groups.

That's the issue - otherwise this addon has been one of the most useful for my users.

Thanks for this great hack, it's very useful for my forum.
But it still miss 3 stuffs very useful (and well , necessary for my use)

1) That the "thanks" button doesn't appears on the messages of the author of the thread (inside the thread)

2) We should have the possibility to set that Only the creator of the thread should be able to give a thanks via the button.

3) We should be able to restrict to "thanks" just one person in a specific thread and just one time. Once the author has given a "thanks" to one person on his thread, all the thanks buttons disapear of every posts of the threads, like it does when you give a thanks to a post...except that the "thanks" button disappears only on the thanked post :(

Do you think those functions could be integrated soon?

I installed mod_security and a set of rules. In doing so, the Post thanks system stopped working. Users were getting this error:

What is strange to me is that I have the following in my .htaccess in my /forums directory

By the way, I am completely illiterate when it comes to mod_security, but this is the specific rule that post_thanks is firing.

Hey i had the hid hack working with the thanks hack... now when i click thanks it just disappears and does nothing.. i reacently upgraded to 3.71 pl2 and reinstalled vbavanced... any ideas

i got it working i was doing 7.5 instead of 7.6 thanks..

BUt now the thank you gif is not the same as the template how do i change that i think before it was the same without me doing anything??

I've recently upgraded to 3.7.1 PL 1, Post Thanks 7.6, vBadvanced CMPS v3.0.1, all albums 2.3, and Tag Cloud 1.0.

Since then, some of the thanked posts (High Fived on our board, due to a phrase change) are now showing up with a N/A rather than a link to the post that was given the thanks.

Thanks for this great hack, it's very useful for my forum.
But it still miss 3 stuffs very useful (and well , necessary for my use)

1) That the "thanks" button doesn't appears on the messages of the author of the thread (inside the thread)

2) We should have the possibility to set that Only the creator of the thread should be able to give a thanks via the button.

3) We should be able to restrict to "thanks" just one person in a specific thread and just one time. Once the author has given a "thanks" to one person on his thread, all the thanks buttons disapear of every posts of the threads, like it does when you give a thanks to a post...except that the "thanks" button disappears only on the thanked post :(

Do you think those functions could be integrated soon?

When I add a thanks, the system seems to add the box under the said post, yet doesn't add my name. But if I go out of the topic and back in it'll show the name.

It's confusing members as when they thank a post that hasn't been thanked the box will appear but their name doesn't appear in it.

Is anybody else having this problem?

My forum is 3 weeks new. www.allnursesunite.com I have 60 members so far and everything seems to be going very well except with the Thank You buttons. My members specifically asked for "Thank You" buttons. They appear at times and at other times they don't, usually they appear to some members but not to others, then the next day some of the members buttons re-appear and other members buttons disappear. Does any one have a clue as to what the problem may be. I am a novice with a forum so simple language works best. Thanks!

Hi, would it be possible to show forum members how many Thanks (and Groans) they have available to them and/or a notification when they have used up their daily quota of Thanks (and Groans).

Maybe something next to the Thanks button in the PostBit, warning them when they have (for example) < 10, < 5 and 0 Thanks left to issue.

We limit our forum members to 20 Thanks (and 20 Groans) per day - they can be an unruly bunch - and occasionally get "bug reports" that the forum is broken as a member has gone on a Thanking spree, which is why we have the limit! :)

As a temp solution you can turn off two plugins pertaining to the mod postbit display

Does this image show as an "x" or not at all? If it shows an "x" right click on the image and view what folder it's Supposed to be in, then ftp into your site and upload the thanks.gif button to that particular folder.

Same problem...I uploaded in all folders, checked the memberinfo_block_statistics, it's simply not there. I upgraded to 3.7.2 P1 and I also upgraded my skins, although I'm not sure if that has anything to do with the price of rice in china...

Upgraded to the latest vB and removed the old 6.4 Thank You hack thinking it would preserve all the data for when I installed this new version and it did not. Spend the last 5 hours putting the data back into the post_thanks table by hand, all 65,000+ entries through mysqladmin.

Now how do I reconnect this data with the users and with the posts so it shows up in the forums?

There has to be a couple of sql commands that will do this, but my brain is dead. Please help!

When I upgraded for some reason it wiped the post_thanks table clean. I was able to recoup the data and upload it to the live database. I jsut wish I would have seen the recount feature. Now I really feel like an idiot after all the work I put in to manually set all the counts via assorted conversions, uploads and updates.

You need to copy the post_thanks.gif into your specialized style's folder /images/buttons.

I have a question. I have this hack installed, and all is fine. Except, for some reason in the user CP it's listing under their statistics twice.

How can I cancel the refreshing the page when a user click thank. Users dont want to replacing page..?

Upgraded to the latest vB and removed the old 6.4 Thank You hack thinking it would preserve all the data for when I installed this new version and it did not. Spend the last 5 hours putting the data back into the post_thanks table by hand, all 65,000+ entries through mysqladmin.

Now how do I reconnect this data with the users and with the posts so it shows up in the forums?

There has to be a couple of sql commands that will do this, but my brain is dead. Please help!

Make sure you put the post_thanks table back with all the data then run the recounters from the post thanks options.

Does anyone know where I would change the execution order of this plug-in?

Basically, the search link shows up after my google search box, I'd like it to show before that box. Since this uses a hook it's not as straightforward as just editing the navbar template.
If you click to edit the plug-in, it gives you an option on what order to do it in.

when 1 members are delete and other uses are in favour of his argument and uses thank button so they this error

First off, thanks abe1 for you great efforts on this one and previous versions, but I would like to ask about upgrading issues.
I'm running vB 3.6.4, and planning to upgrade to 3.7.x very soon, how can I upgrade to the new plugin version aswell without losing all the previous data? I've read that ppl had issues losing their previous data, how can I avoid this?
Just make sure you dont uninstall the old version. Just install the new version right over the last version.

Can we :

1. find out who has clicked thanks most per week.
2. find out who has been thanked most per week.
3. run a side by side similar thanks hack, for positive thanks. But slightly renamed. I asked you about this, we wanted to call it a Spank-you ... not a negative thanks, but more tongue in cheek version of Thanks, for cheeky members.

If there are no issues, and its dooable, ( item 3 ) Is it something we can do ourselves, by going thru your code, and simply renaming thanks with spanks, and creating separate db entries, havent looked in too deep on the coding side, as it is your hack.

Search the member_info template for "post thank" and delete anything from start to end you see there.
