(adding single quotes around the userid)

However, that doesn`t give me the 1054 error, but will give me an affected rows of zero, no change to the user`s vCash. The userid is spelled correctly, obviously.

edit: I don't have the option for a vbookie even below the poll option.
That's because you didn't change the usergroup permissions or didn't follow the incredibly basic instructions.

that is because userid is a NUMBER, not the members name. use WHERE username='accountname'

I don't understand this whatsoever. If you're going to abandon this, why not let someone else try to resurrect it? There are 600+ vBulletin owners that have a use for it apparently, why not throw them a bone? It is an integral part of my forums and probably many others. Hell, charge for it if you want even, it is valuable enough to many of our communities that many would probably be willing to support it financially.

Rebuilt bitfields, reset permissions for "Bookie" group, created even, bet.

That's because you didn't read back far enough.... Its the single most talked about subject besides the bitfields..

Step 1. Log into your Admin Control Panel.

Step 2. Scroll down the left hand nav menu until you get to the Plugins & Products Area.... expand it.. click on Plugin Manager. This will then bring up all the plugins that you have installed within vbulletin...

Step 3. Scroll down the list and look for the Product : vBookie area... this area will contain all the plugins associated with vbookie....

Step 4. Find the specific plugin that needs to be modified (vBookie: Redirect to vbookie.php when posting new Event) and then click on [edit]. This will open the plugin so that you can replace the block of code with the block that Paul had in his post (which is located below)

Replace the current plugin code with this:

In case anyone wants to make it so only admins can settle bets (I know I needed that and I saw someone else post way back the same thing).

It's an ugly fix in that I didn't add any options to the actual mod. I just hardcoded in so that it would always be like that.

Also confirmed all the files are uploaded. Confirmed I did the template edit. But still no box to check to make it a vbookie event. Any advice would be good. Thanks

The only two things that I know of that prevent that from showing up are the Template Edits and the vbookie permissions within the usergroup settings. Are you sure that the settings are being saved and no reverting back to NO?

that if statement that you removed is basically saying IF allowed vbookie show the fieldset that's why when you click it still doesn't show you anything

which is bringing back to (i know you must be tired of seeing) one of the permissions that you missed and something else (stupid) but i have to ask

That is what the middle picture is of.

I go to admincp > usergroups > forum permissions > "specific forum I want", scroll to administrator and click edit and that is the setting.

If I go to admincp > forums & moderators > forums permission > "specific forum I want", scroll to "administrator" and click edit, it is the same options set.

Unless there is another setting I am missing, it looks like everything is setup right.

Got it resolved. It was not working for me but when I logged into my other admin account it worked. I am confused on why it does not work for me though. Both accounts have admin as the primary usergroup.

Now I just gotta get it intergrated with vbcredits

I've installed this on 3.6.8 and it seems to be working ok, except this:

A user placed a bet, and in the vbookie page it show the total amount stacked, but it doesn't show anything in the row that says "bet placed by...." etc.

any ideas?

Edit: Ok this is weird: one of my members placed a bet for 200 points and he didn't show up in that row. Now another member placed a bet for 150 points and he shows up in that row just fine.

Edit 2 : nevermind, the first member just checked the private bet option. All is ok :)

Well, the bets we had going until the upgrade worked just fine, but now when you go to post a new thread there is no option to add a book to it - I re-did everything along with the plugin replacement that got it to work on the 3.6.x version...

I have been using vbookie for awhile and love the mod. We have been using it heavily and recently noticed a slowdown when we settle bets. It is eating up a lot of resources, mysql seems to take 10 minutes to settle each bet. (We are on a dedicated server, which has been optimized).

Anyone have any issues like this? I am wondering if I can schedule the settle bets to not run until later through cron. Or even just prune the database, maybe if there was less history in the database that would take care of the issue?

If the Event's payout time has been reached there will also be a reminder that the bets should be settled, and there will be checkboxes beside each potentially winning Outcome. This is only shown to the Event's owner or members with permission to edit other persons' Events.

I set all permission correctly (only tech + vbookie group) but all smod and admin can settle the bet!So could I do something to prevent it???Because someone try to settle the wrong side, and it make the bet be chaos...

Because 3.7.3 has some different code with 3.6.x, so you should search for calendar only, and remove the whole lines between <td ...> and </td>!You are recommended to know a little of html to do it correctly...

Well -- not to keep talking to myself, but just to document this -- we ran that query above and created the index. So far it looks good. The table doesn't get locked when vbookie queries are running.

I will probably purge some of the bet history as well to make the data smaller. But for now things seem better.

if i remember right you would have to go INSIDE the vbookie table for BETS and find the proper bet (you can search by user id or i think the bet id) from there you can edit it you have two choices from switching from which team or you can just do it manually (by editing) the person's point amount and just post a note in the Vbookie thread

You can run the SQL queries in AdminCP in the Maintenance menu.

For a complete vBookie reset run these SQL queries:

Reset everyone's vCash:

UPDATE user SET vbookie_cash=X;
where X= vCash (eg 500)

To totally clear all past events:

DELETE FROM vbookie_news;
DELETE FROM vbookie_bets_placed;
DELETE FROM vbookie_item_options;
DELETE FROM vbookie_items;
DELETE FROM vbookie_groups;

Some other useful vBookies queries people might find useful:

To remove a specific event:
DELETE FROM vbookie_items WHERE item_id = 'X';

replace X with the item id which you can get by mousing over the info link in the affected vbookie event.

To remove a news event:
DELETE FROM vbookie_news WHERE news_id = X';

To Abandon/Mitigate a wrongly settled event:

UPDATE vbookie_items SET item_status='CLOSED' WHERE item_id= 'X';

This will change it from Settled to Closed. Then click the Abandon Event link in the thread. This only returns the original stakes. vCash won as a result of the incorrect settlement is not taken away and changing the winner in the thread has no effect.

I've encountered the problem with ridiculously large vCash numbers too. Unfortunately there's a way to cheat which I won't go into. It can also occur unintentionally with slaved db servers. You can dramatically reduce it by not permitting events that allow more than one bet.

Doh! I forgot to carry out the template changes. Did that and changed the vBookie: Redirect to vbookie.php when posting new Event, shown in the post below and it works again.

In vBookie, the largest bet that can be placed is 2.4 billion. I know this can't be a limitation with the database because vBCredits stores much larger numbers. I've looked that the data types in mySQL and they are BigInts, what else should I check to "upgrade" this to be able to place larger bets?

K I have vbookie installed... and recently change servers... before the move with 3.6
we then upgraded to 3.7 and vbookie quit... we ugraded to 3.8 and changed the php as previously discussed in this thread... Now vbookie works... BUT, in only one style out of 9 do I get the post vbookie event... But, I get double header and double edit windows... if you noticed, 1 window has post vbookie event and the other does not...

so where can I find the php that controls the "post vbookie event" and where the heck can i edit out the double edit windows and header?

I got this to work on on my site. I am running 3.8.1. Normally I had the problem everyone was getting. It is setup, but it wasn't showing up. So randomly, I checked my newthread style and it wasn't there. So just add:

I have this working for 3.8.1 PL1. This works for any forum version with the right modifications done. I will write up exactly what you guys need to do to get it working.


1: Upload all files in upload folder

3: Goto ACP > Plugins & Products > Plugin Manager

Yeah that is the reason why it does not work. Try to disable your hooks and then try to edit that file, you might have a plugin conflicting that may not allow you to edit the details. To disable hooks just do a search here and you will find out how to do it.

I have got it working but unless I make registered users able to post vbookie events thay cannot bet at all, is there a way of making them able just to bet without creation, I ticked the option in group permissions but it does not work unless i do the above....

Higot one small issue I have a member named L'Raine and she can earn points but when someone tries to donate we get a database error with the username having the @ in it, see error below

In order to rework this into a decent quality modification, a major refactoring (ending up in a total rewrite) would be necessary.

In the past I have spoken to a number of coders about recreating this, coding from scratch, and have even paid some deposits however the coders have run off with the money and never done anything about this being set up and updated.

Well after much deliberations, and a number of private messages to Andreas we may have some movement on an update to this product finally.

Despite in the first thread saying that this code will not be ongiven, and there will be no updates from him I must have caught Andreas on a good day because I have been given permission from Andreas to create an updated ported version of vbookie...

I'm fine if you are going to build a free version if it will fully follow vBulletin Code standards, etc. - but I will definitly not give permission for a commercial version.

If you want to build a free version, send me the code when you are done so I can take a look at it - if it meets the conditions set above you'll get permission to release it, otherwise you won't.

Is what I was sent in the Private Message, and although I do not like sharing private messages I thought this shows that we can continue to work on this to port it and add new features.

How about trying to link it up with Ladbooks, William Hill? A bit like the "About Today" mod where you can see the list of sporting events and then just click "Create Vbookie event" and it will automatically create an event using the current odds offered on their webiste.

Also when you go to create a new event in a vbookie forum, abolish the need to create a title, write something and then click on the "Yes, post a vbookie event with this thread" - Make it so it goes straight to the vbookie page - If that makes sense.

Got this installed and all is up and running. Members are able to post a new event to bet on and are able to bet/settle bets.

However, when members are betting, their vCash doesn't go down and automatically returns to 500 vCash even after betting and losing their cash.

Any ideas how to fix this? I've not been 'giving to the poor' or anything like that...

If you'd add an option to settle bets with more than one Winner checked in the winning column, then it could be fairly effective for horse racing. We've been using it for horse racing in my forum, but the only bet that can be made is Win. There's no payout for Place or Show unless you create three separate events for the same race, and then there's the issue of three horses paying Show money. If there was an option to click "Number of Winners" and select a number, then I'd click "3" and it would calculate the Show payouts for all three... in the Place event I'd click "2" to get the payouts. Actually, if it had an option to calculate the odds by a percentage like "Pay 50% odds" or "Set Percentage Payout", that would be perfect for the Place or Show payouts in a horse racing event.

Our currency of choice is Reputation Points and it works only if the vCash option or one of the other cash options is selected in CP Admin. If one of those options isn't selected, it doesn't do the calculations. Of course that means having the "vCash 500" icon sitting there useless and meaningless, but it does deduct or add Reputation Points.

There are lots of other options I'd like to see, but this could be a really popular add-on if it's done right and has enough available options. It's got the foundation of one.

EDIT: Another option that needs to be added - desperately needs to be added - is the option to change your bet before the bet cut-off expires. Several people in my forum have accidentally placed the wrong bet and wanted to change it, but they're basically out of luck if they do make the wrong bet. To me it seems that's a necessary option.

Now everything looks like installed but when I try to edit usergroup (admin first) and I set vBookie to 'all yes', and click update - nothing happens. :confused:
I went to Forums & Moderators and the same thing happens - I set it to 'yes' but it automatically changes it to 'no'

Yeah, I don't know. It doesn't wanna change from 'no' to 'yes' in usergroup and forums & moderators. I checked under vBulletin Options and it says that it's active. I see it in the navbar and when I click on it it looks fine. But I can't make it turn on :(

In usergroup manager it says:

and I cannot set it to yes :(

I have this working for 3.8.1 PL1. This works for any forum version with the right modifications done. I will write up exactly what you guys need to do to get it working.


1: Upload all files in upload folder
2: Import product-bookiehack.xml
3: Goto ACP > Plugins & Products > Plugin Manager

Ok Guys - I have started recoding this, slowly seem I am only new to coding - I am coding it all up to meet the new standards outlined by vBulletin. I can say that it will not work on vb4.0 when it is released - when the coding is finished it will however work on 3.8.x

You can open a betting event at 1/1 and when people bet on something the odds will improve for that bet, just like proper betting the odds will move up and down depending on what people are betting on - if someone bets 1000 credits on 1 event obviously that teams odds will become shorter while the other teams will blow out.

+ Ability to cater for Horse Racing
There will be a new selection option where you can select if this is a Horse Racing Event, this would allow you to add a "Place/Show" odds as well, this would also help if you run a motorsport betting system - you would be able to bet on a win or placing.

+ Easier installation
Our aim is to provide an easier installation, with limited template edits, we are hoping to make it a product install only - however as I mentioned I am only new to coding and therefore it would depend on how well things go.

For starters, I'd like for my users to be able to make bets between other users. If a person wants to bet x amount of money on a certain event, they can post it along with the amount of people (limit) they'd like to bet that amount against.

Whoever creates a bet can send people invites to bet, or anyone can bet depending on what that user wants to do.

Really can't thank you enough for working on this! I sure wish I could write code because I'd be trying to help every step of the way. As it is, about all I can offer are a few suggestions.

I'll just hit the first two off the top of my head... the Edit VBookie Event function should be a clickable button instead of clickable white text. That's already confused a couple of people in my forum, and I'll admit it's not as people-friendly as it could be... more easily visible, that is.

I'd also go back to an earlier suggestion. People should have the option to change their bets before the cut-off date. Particularly in the case of horseracing, that would clean up any problems connected to scratched horses. We ran into that issue last weekend, and it wasn't a problem for me to go into Admin CP and give them their points back, but if they'd been able to change their own bets, it would've saved me some time. Besides, horseracing bettors will often change their minds anyway. ;)

I'm sure I'll have more suggestions as you go along, but those two are at the top of the list right now... sorry, and one other problem. The other day, when a horse scratched out of a race, I tried to change the Number of Outcomes. So I reduced the Number of Outcomes by one and clicked the button to Update Event. Even though it was supposed to reduce the number by one (I assume, since I changed the number), it still showed the same Number of Outcomes as the original setting after I'd clicked Update. In short, reducing the Number of Outcomes had no effect at all. It wasn't a major problem... just a glitch in the original code, I suppose.

Thanks again, and I'll try to come up with some more suggestions. I really think this could be a MOTM because it's definitely got tons of potential. I'd vote for it!

One of the bettors on my site just brought up a really good and very important point.

vBookie would be more workable for horseracing if the Ajax calculations for a pari-mutuel type of betting system could be disabled. We've got some excellent handicappers in our forum, and if all of them bet on the same horse, or even if most of them bet on the same horse - knowing it's going to win - then the vBookie odds on that race wouldn't even come close to reflecting the real world odds in the race.

In the real world race, that winning horse might go off at 1-1 or better, but in the vBookie race with most of the people betting on it, the horse could go off at 1-20 odds.

So for horseracing purposes, ideally we would have the option to disable the Ajax function that's calculating the odds based on the amounts being bet on the event. It might also be useful to have the option of disabling it for other events too.

Hi there,

Got this installed and all is up and running. Members are able to post a new event to bet on and are able to bet/settle bets.

However, when members are betting, their vCash doesn't go down and automatically returns to 500 vCash even after betting and losing their cash.

Any ideas how to fix this? I've not been 'giving to the poor' or anything like that...

Is anybody able to help me regarding this problem? I've managed to get this up and running in the past before but for some reason, this just isn't happening...

sounds like you are running vb 3.6 or high.. you need to apply the fix and make the template edits. so it will work..

this has probably been covered but in a thread with 150 pages of replies, and the terrible search engine vb has I can't find this answer.

I've got everything working, except changing the dates of the lines opening. I can't edit or set either. does this make sense? I need to stop an event on aug 1 but it stays at the date i made the event at 1am.

Yes, I'm using it with 3.8.3 and it works. Using those instructions. well from someone else, but the same steps, and it's stable.

EDIT: except the iCash. no idea if that works.

ALso, there are two steps missing in that response.
1. you must rebuild the bit fields after install. Put this at the end of your forum URL to do it: admincp/index.php?do=buildbitfields
2. Set the permissions. go to the forums, and permissions and make sure the right groups are assigned to be able to create and edit events.

Finally, the step to include the block where you search for $threadmanagement or whatever is critical. this must be done in ALL your themes or it will only work in the ones you do the hack to. I mean it's the only way to get the vbookie options visible.

I use TMS so I can edit my master template and it flows to all the themes I have. very handy

The recoding of vBookie which is being labelled as vBookie 2.0 that I am working on (with the blessing of Andreas) works out of the box on 3.8.3 meaning you download the file, upload the files needed and make just one template edit and install the product and it works.

It is written so it handles numerous points system including vBCredits, vBux, and most other popular points/credits system - without any template/php file edits it is a simple drop down menu to select the cash/credits/points system that you use and an option to change the field in the database if you have named it something else.

It also has the option to change the overall name: where it says vBookie Event you can change that to Virtual Betting etc more or less whatever you want.

So that is the first steps completed it works out of the box and allows some better customisation, now I am turning my focus to be working on adding additional features.

A number of bugs have been fixed including one that almost ruined my website where the users get their money back plus their winnings - in real life betting this does not happen.

I found that if people put 100 credits on an event that was paying 2/1 if that event won they would get the 100 credits they originally bet back, as well as 200 further credits for winning meaning if you have multiple bets available then your users can cheat and bet 100 credits on two outcomes and not lose any credits overall as it was handing money back to them.

So I have fixed this bug to react like real betting... and have already added one feature where you can select if an event is a race eg: Horse Race, Motorsport Race which allows you to enter a win price and place price then when selecting the outcome of the event there are two columns one for the Winning Horse/Driver/Car and one for the Horses/Drivers/Cars that finished with a placing.

So as I mentioned when I first started I am far from being a top notch coder and so work continues on it trying to find and add further features - I am considering entering a final beta stage of what I have at the moment and releasing it as vBookie 2.0 and then continue to work and add further features to release as 2.1, 2.2, 2.3 etc etc.

Will there be an option to have one on one betting? Let's say you want to bet on something against one person. Example: "I bet you 10K vbcredits that the Orlando Magic will win" I'd love to be able to challenge people this way.
