ok strange problem,when i go into edit user groups and put the settings for vbookie on the save it,once saved they go back to no :confused:

you need to rebuild your bit fields....

Depends on how elaberate you want it to be. I-Cash works just fine if your goal is to just give members points for the use of vbookie. vBcredits will be nice if they ever finish it, but its over kill for just using with vbookie.

Yes, I-Cash awards points for posting and starting threads (and more).. Im running vBcredits, but I am going back to I-Cash.

Theres somthing wrong with mine,after the bets are paid out everyones money goes back down to zero :confused:

also if i delete an event everyone on the forums goes back to zero even tho it was only me that put a bet on.

Great hack and thank you. But when i click the check box for Yes! Create a vBookie event. And I click submit new thread. It just posts the thread and I dont get any option to create the vBookie event. Is there anything I should do to try and fix it? Or how would I fix it?

yes, this works fine with 3.6.8 (as long as you apply Pauls Patch .... a link to it is on the first post of this thread)..

It also works just fine in 3.7 (tested with Beta 2, 3 and 4)

ya, I "HAD" that issue, but ever since I decided to get rid of the "settled" option from the Dropdown on the Main vBookie page, it has gone away... for some reason (I have not yet troubleshot)... it creates a stuck process on the mysql server ... next time it happens to you, just check out your processes via phpmyadmin and you will see that their is a vbookie process that is eating up 100% of the memory (might be stuck in an infinate loop).. anyway, if you kill that proccess, your site will then speed right back up :cool: Then take time to get rid of the settled option in the dropdown box (just edit the vbookie_main template)

Here is the default vbookie_main template .. the code to be remarked out (or removed) is in BOLD/RED.

What this does is prevent members from selecting the SETTLED vbookie items from the drop down so that the system does not lock up. Since doing this, I've not had any site performance issues related to vbookie.

Is there a way i can allocate newly registered users vcash?

I run vbookie competition over say 10 months, at the start everyone gets ?500, then as new members join i manually adjust it.
i.e january everyone gets ?500
new members joining in Feb get ?450, March ?400 etc etc

Its very tedious searching through all new members and manually adjusting their cash, i would like to set it automatically monthly to allocate new members that months cash amount without affecting the existing members cash amounts - hope this makes sense?

Is this possible? :confused:

EDIT - Solved the problem. I had upploaded both folders, but not the individual vBookie.php file. A very stupid mistake, but hey, everything works fine now!

I would like to first off apologize for bugging you all but I was wondering whether anyone would be kind enough to help me install this mod on my forums?

I have done all the template edits, uploaded everything done almost everything it says in this thread, disabled product/plugins enabled them, everything and still it is not showing up giving me the opportunity to create a bet/event. I am after someone to help go over the code and hopefully get it fixed so it works perfectly.

I found that if I created a new forum specifically for vbookie events, the option to create a new vbookie event appeared as a new thead option .. try that.

I cannot seem to post an event at all in the threads. The if statement <if condition="$show['vbookieevent']"> seems to be a possible issue. How do I make sure that it is TRUE so it gives me the checkbox. (If I remove this if statement it shows the checkbox.)

Open your vBulletin database and look at the phrase table.
Find the largest phraseid, then create a new row with a phraseID that's one larger than the largest one so far. The other values are as follows:
languageid : -1
varname : vbookie_exceeded_max_bet
text : You have exceeded the maximum amount of $100 per bet.
phrasetypeid : 1000
product : bookiehack

Obviously, change the $100 max to whatever you want your max to be.

If you've done the template edits, there should be an option to create a vbookie event showing below the option to post a poll when you make a new thread .. see attached.

Your User Group permissions are not set. You need to rebuild your bit fields so that when you set them, they don't default back to no. Once you set them properly, the check box will display for those user groups that have permission to create events. Also, once you have permissions set correctly, when you click on the box, it will execute the script (It won't, because it checks for permissions.. all you did by removing the if statement in the template was bypass the permissions check to display the check box to the correct user groups)

so it creates a new thread; Title, Message
then Event group, Event Title, number of outcomes (will always be 2), outcome1, outcome2, Odds1, Odds2, Accept bets until, bets paid after, timezone (will always be Eastern), and allow multiple bets (always unchecked)

Integrating this mod via the posting options of the forums seemed a little odd to me at first but after seeing it in action, I'm totally convinced it's pure genius! I've seen too many self contained navbar links die slow horrible (time wasting) deaths while adding virtually no benefit to the site/(forums), but this one... well, it's the real value adding, excitement generating deal!

I tip the proverbial hat to all the coders that have contributed to this mod! This one is without a doubt da bomb!

make sure you change the setting in vBulletin Options --> vBookie Settings --> Cash/Points System --> Custom. for some reason it dont say Custom for its blank. if you see a blank spot use it.

Pauls change is the only thing you need to apply to have it work with 3.6 or 3.7 The only other thing that you need to do after installing (and its not a change) is rebuild bit fields ..

Does anyone know if there is a way of having an automatic tick in the "post vbookie event with this thread" in a certain forum?

Got the vbookie working in my 3.6.8 board now!

Have to admit the read me files were not the best, but badged and bodged and got there int he end!!

Ok, I have 3.6.9 and got it installed. I hit new thread and choose post vbookie event with thread. On the next page where I am supposed to get the options for the event nothing shows up, it's like a regular thread.

Any ideas?

Man, have you even looked at the usergroups settings before posting? It is clearly stated in the each usergroup. Pull up the usergroup you want to allow and scroll down to the "vbookie event permissions". Under that... "Can post vbookie events". Set that to yes.

yes it does. I've personally got every beta version of 3.7 and the 2 RCs on my dev server and have tested vbookie with all of them, both fresh installs of vbookie and upgrades.

vBookie was working great on the 3.7RC3 test site I had setup w/ the aforementioned edits required to the plugin code to get it to work with 3.6.x

dkawika: Trying rebuilding the bitfields and see if that fixes your problem, I had the same issue with a former test site and it fixed the issue.

I haven't tried to put this on the new 3.7.0RC4 w/ the new token... if anyone has attempted this please give an update as I'd like to know also.

Ok for some reason after installing and I did everything needed to be done (add file, add xml, added code, turned it on, turned on plugins, set useregroups, permissions etc). I go to create the vBookie event and I see where I check add vbookie event, but then after I click submit it just makes the post and doesnt open up a vbookie thing at all!!!! Whats going on?

I was running vbookie on 3.6 for a long time and upgraded to 3.7. Just to be safe I reinstalled the product, checked that all the template modifications were in place - which they still were.

Anyway, I was not able to place vbookie events - so I checked the permissions for admin.. they were all off - but when I try to set them to "YES" and save the permissions.. the changes don't stick. After changing the permissions I immediately check the permissions again and they're all set to "NO" again. Keep trying but they never stick.

If I change any of the other permissions on the same page (such as "can post threads" or anything else which isn't vbookie related) the changes are saved.. just the vbookie ones which aren't.

There are many features I'd like to see get added.
The ability to add a bet to an already existing thread. Like you would add a poll through thread tools.
I'd like to also see the ability to add a module for latest bets on the vba CMPS.
I'd like to be able to add a bet on the vbookie page. Adding a bet there would automatically create a thread within a specified forum. (specified by bet creator)
Ability to also edit the bet on the vbookie page.
The ability to add a "news & events" notice through the admincp.
AdminCP controlled welcome message.
Also, it would be nice if there was an admincp option to turn off polls if there is a bet in place.
Default timezone when creating a bet should be set to vbulletin default.

From what I remember there was something to enable/disable this, per forum, in Forum Manager but it doesn't seem to be there anymore.

rebuild your bit fields. Its been mentioned numerous times in this thread, so if you don't know how to do that, read back a few pages.. its the most often asked question, so you will find the answer rather fast.

with that not, this is the last time I am answering this question. I've reported this to the staff more than once to simply have them edit the first post of this thread to include rebuilding bit fields instructions and editing the install to include it. Come on guys!

then you've either installed it incorrectly or have conflicts with another Mod. I have vbookie running on 4 different highly modified 3.7.0 sites (two of those have been running vbookie since 3.5x and have been upgraded through every version of vB to 3.7 Gold) .. the other two were installed on 3.7 after it had been highly modded ... they all run perfect.

start disabling products to see if it is conflicting with something or maybe uninstall and try reinstalling again. I've never had an install problem and have installed this on over 50 sites (3.5x, 3.6x and 3.7x), so when people have problems, I just don't understand, cause I've never run into any (YET)... Those that I've helped that DID have problems, ended up ALL being from not installing it correctly.

I don't recall that there ever was in the forum manager itself. The way I do it is through forum permissions. I have a vbookie User Group and them through the forum permissions, I set which forums the vbookie user group can create events.. thats always how I have done it.

Checked everything, and we appear to have installed everything correctly.

What I have noticed is, that when we set permissions for users, and click relevant radio buttons in usergroup manager, click save, then go back and check, it hasnt saved?

Perhaps thats why we cannot post events and use the bookie.

Any suggestions as to why?

It happens that when someone bets on an event and he wins, he gets back even the stakes.
Example:
odd 2 to 1
he bets 100, he gets back 300 (200 from the bet, 100 Stakes are returned for the winning bet.)

While he should get back only 200...

I have the same problem... You can solve it by changing your odds; 1 to 1 instead of 2 to 1... Not the most aelegant solution but it works...

The posting of vbookie events in 3.6 is broken because the hook used has moved.

To fix this problem, the following plugin must be edited ;


vBookie: Redirect to vbookie.php when posting new Event

Replace the plugin code with this ;

Well i just can't work this out, i have been over and over this but can't work out what im doing wrong.

I have vbookie installed on 3.7.2 and it seems to work fine, i have edited the permissions so i can post an event and i have edited the plugin with Paul M's code. And yet whenever i goto post a new event it simply creates the thread but no re-direct to all the other bet settings i need to do and nothing appears in the vbookie page.

Any ideas?

EDIT: IF i remove the IF statement it works:

I have this installed on 3.7.1 and it's been working fine. Except a funny thing just happened when one of my users tried to settle a bet on the tennis. When he settled it everybody who had bet on Federer got switched over to Nadal, and vice versa! This hasn't happened on any other event we've had, but because I had 500 on Federer the finger of suspicion is pointed firmly at me.

Has this happened to anyone else, and if so how can it be reversed?

As I understand it, it is normal betting practise for the stake to be returned on winning bets. Once the bet has been placed, vBookie deducts the stake from your Bank as soon as a bet is struck, which should be returned on a winning bet

Win Bet Example

?100 win on Red Rum at 2/1. If Red Rum doesn’t win then you lose your stake. If Red Rum does win then you multiply your stake by the odds ?100x2 =200 and you receive your ?100 stake back. So your total return on this bet would be ?300. Your profit on the ?100 stake would be ?200.

I paid for a proffesional installation and the guy who installed it followed instructions for the install to the letter. Unfortunately, though it has 'installed' it does not actually allow me to post any event! When I click on vbookie event when starting a new post / thread - it does nothing. I am running VB 3.7.2 patch 1.

Any advice as to what could have caused this?

I couldn't find the part it says to look for so I added it below
<td class="vbmenu_control"><a href="calendar.php$session[sessionurl_q]">$vbphrase[calendar]</a></td> instead.

Maybe I misunderstood what I needed to do at some point, I'm new at this.

If you made the template change and the permissions are set, then it will show up. one of those two things isn't right..

Do you have more than one style? If so, did you make the template change in all styles?

Are you sure you set the user group permissions (check the user group that you are assigned to.. make sure they are not reverting back to no)..

Hello, quick question here.

I know the command to reset ALL users to a certain number
(UPDATE user SET vbookie_cash=500; )

what if I wanted to set just a specific member, or members.. I have searched this thread and tried adding things in that command above, but to no success

Wouldn't it just be a WHERE clause? something like UPDATE user SET vbookie_cash=500 WHERE userid=x

(I'm not a coder but maybe one can chime in and confirm)
