vBookie for vBulletin 3.5

Recently upgraded from 3.5.1 to 3.5.3.

All vBookie Data, Bets (current and settled) are intact.

When I try to create a new vBookie event the option to create the event in no longer available (ie.. the checkbox).

I checked the permissions in the admincp which remained the same as they were prior to the vbulletin upgrade.

Anybody have a similiar experience?

What I have done so far (just to make sure) -

Rebuilt BitFields
Turned vBookie On and Off
Set Permissions Off and On

This is a vBulletin bug in handling phrases, which will be fixed in the next maintenance release, presumably 3.5.4.

Though, your invalid threadid problem has another cause. I'll update the ZIP when I got time to fix it.

I got a bug. I disabled my super moderators to not be able to edit Vbookie events and for the most part they can't. But they are able to settle bets and choose winners of the events. Got a fix anyone?

ive got vbadvanced and in the front page the vbookie link in the link bar doesnt work because its going to domain.com/vbookie, instead of domain.com/forum/vbookie.

I've set up Vbookie on VB 3.5.3, and private bets aren't private - anyone can see a private bet another person has made.

I've checked the settings etc, but see nothing about private bets. Any ideas??

Edit: Seems $allowbetting is set to 1 and then set to 0 in several places if they meet conditions that they cannot bet. But then you check:

if ($allowbetting)

which I think you want !$allowbetting, no?

Edit 2: Well, I thought so, but changing this produced:

You may bet on this event. You have 0 cash and have placed 0 bet(s) on this Event. You may bet more than once on this Event.

And 0 cash seems to be an issue.

Edit 3: Okay, found the problem, in functions_vbookie.php (change in bold):

As always, the bitfield XML file must be in place before the product XML is being imported.
If this was not the case, you either have to rebuild the bitfield cache manually - or import the product XML again.

i upgraded, so i replaced the 3 entries in the newthread, navbit and postbit templates

i had to make a vbphrase for the money in the postbit, i think it was vbookie_bcash

It's odd... I try to edit the vBookie permissions in my usergroup manager, but it doesn't update... it just keeps all of everyone's vBookie settings a "No" no matter how many times I try.

I have the same problem that cdorka had, and I can't resolve it, I have checked my permissions and everything should be fine.
I rebuilt the bitfields too, whatever that is, in case it helped, which it didnt.

Well, I installed your newer version of the xml with that phrase in, and didn't change anything else, and now it works. So, it must have some effect on it.

this hasnt worked for me since i upgraded to 3.53, ive rebuilt, uninstalled/reinstalled uploaded the new version yada yada yada, and nothing, the new thread and show thread portions do not show up for me. i really wish i hadnt upgraded, this is more important to my small site then any upgrade.. :(

So I upload "includes" by FTP to my forums directory ?

Thing is there is already a folder there called Includes so surely that is going to overwrite that folder ? or do I just upload in FTP the individual files into the existing Includes directory ?

And what about the "images" folder and the VBookie PHP file ?

You create events by posting a message in the forum - there should be a "post a vbookie event" box near where the create a poll option is

In Admin Panel when I create settings for usergroups to use VBookie it automatically sets them back to No so there is no option there so I have majorly messed up somewhere

You have to re-build the bitfields :

@Everybody who got the same Problem as Bobby_S (setting reverting to No):

The Bitfield XML must be uploaded before the Product XML is being imported - as stated in the documentation.
If you are not sure if you did that:

Check if the File is present and call admincp/index.php?do=buildbitfields

That should fix the Problem.

I had a working 1.05 on my server, everything was great. Upgraded to 1.06 and no bets paid out. No biggie. Installed eBux/eStore and then vBookie 1.06 (using eBux).

Everything seemed fine until I paid out my first bet. I (my admin name) recieved ALL the winnings, but the posts says it paid out correctly. It's very odd.

I reuploaded all the files, and reinstalled it...but I haven't paid out anything else yet (scared!).

Ideas?

Now about the typo error in the area at the bottom. of the page Edit Event
Select this box if you want to allow people to vote more than once on this Event. If you leaev this box unselected, people will not be able to bet for more than one Outcome, nor for the same Outcome more than once.

I just done a search and replace in Phrase's, and hey presto..all done

a lot of my bets have repetitive outcomes, for example "who will win the 2006 F1 championship", "who will win the first F1 race in 2006" etc etc. they will all have the same outcome select (schumacher, button, coulthard etc etc etc)

so im wondering if its possible to have templates to select from for the outcomes.

or if thats allready an option, where can i find it (i looked in all the obvious places but didnt see anything)

From vBookie bet stats:

Midge.T has a total of 51164.19028
TX SVT LIGHTNING has a total of 10644.81000
Nawz King has a total of 10020.81000
NoRespect has a total of 6010.68438
Amay has a total of 5532.06188

This was done at the same exact time.

It is impossible that this was done at the same time, due to the fact that IP is a serial communication protocol.

The points for TX SVT LIGHTNING and Nawz King are the same.

You can uninstall and then install again.
However, you will lose all cash and events then, as uninstall deletes all data the belongs to this hack.

I just did the Update and everything went fine. But what I forgot to post when I first saw the problem is that my newer skins don't show the option to make an vBookie event which is usually above/below Add A Poll.

No offense, Andreas, but it would appear to be necessary. It's difficult to edit a file when the phrases you tell us to look for don't exist. I was unsure of every edit I made because it didn't match, and not surprisingly, I now get errors in my forum instead of being able to post to or read a thread.

I came here and have spent an hour reading old posts in a 39 page thread, trying to find the correct coding, and have yet to find it.

I appreciate you making this hack and if I get it to work, I think it will be a valuable addition, but I don't see why this hack or any other "shouldn't" be updated to go with the latest version of the forum. Granted, you don't have to give any of your time to update it, but it's certainly not "not necessary."

The install instructions were left unchanged (except that I recently replaced the hardcoded text with phrases) since 3.5.0 RC2.
So where is the point in "updating" them when in fact nothing has changed?

Go into your admin cp, then expand plugin system and select manage products, from the resulting screen select add/import product, then select upload the XML file from your computer after browsing to the xml file on your pc. Then select Import ;)

So let me get this straight, if the user wins - would I have to manually go into my payment gateway - i.e paypal - and send them the winnings? - or does it automatically transfer the winnings to them?

im having an issue with vbookie, i made a test bet, had some members bet on it, and when i settled all bets.. I got all the winnings... that shouldnt be.. should it?

A rather basic question but important nevertheless. Where should the option be to create a new event for users to bet on. I have installed it, changed all the user and forum premissions so admins should be able to post new events, but when logged in I don't see any such option.

create newthread page, right below the checkbox to create a poll, there should be a vbookie check box to create a vbookie event.

mmh I have the following problem. I setup my permissions in Usergroups / Usergroup Manager e.g. for admin all to yes then I clicked on save and all vBookie permissions are reset back to no.

Any idea what I am doing wrong?

However, there is a fundamental problem with the odds. When you enter the normal odds format, e.g. 2/1 the odds are also displayed in decimal format, e.g. 2.0.

The problem is that the coversion is not correct. 2/1 is 3.0 in decimal odds, not 2.0 as it currently displays. The conversion formula is divide and add one.

Decimal odds reflect your total payback based on a bet of 1 unit, so if you were to bet £1 at decimal odds of 3.0, if your bet won you would receive £3 back; effectively £2 in winnings and your £1 stake.

Normal odds don't take into account the stake returned, so 2/1 means for every 1 unit bet you will receive 2 units in winnings. However, you will also receive your stake back. Thus, if you were to bet £1 at odds of 2/1, if you bet won you would receive £2 in winnings and your £1 stake; £3 total

This is correct.........I hope it will be an easy fix :) the payout amounts don't change, the display of the decimal odds just needs to have a "+ 1". Maybe someone who's handy in php can find where this bit of code is and show us how to do it.

An unrelated question, if I want to use vCash, where can I manually add funds to users accounts? Let's say I am running a weekly comp, and I want to reset everyone to 1000 each week for example....

Hey Andreas,

In sports betting, all decimal pricing includes the "initial stake".

With fraction odds, you get to see "2 parts" in the X/Y format:

5/1
X = 5 = profit
Y = 1 = Initial stake
Total = 6

Because in decimal pricing, there is only "1 part", it includes both X + Y so that the user knows if they bet 1 unit, they will get back X + Y total

I hope this makes sense, I've been gambling too long so this part I am definitely sure of :)

Hey it's a good thing you don't bet...it's no good losing money. Which is why this mod is great because it's all virtual :rolleyes:

It actually turned out to be in the Show Events in Showthread plugin

I've seen odds of 1:2 on the betting sites before .. ie a $1 winning bet would return you $1.50 including your original bet (that's right isn't it?)

I want to be able to go in after the event is over and edit the odds to reflect what the odds actually were at the END of the event, and have user bets paid off at the FINAL odds, which means every winner should be paid at the final odds, not the odds at the time the bet was made.

This is akin to pari-mutuel wagering ala Horse Racing.

IF this was to be implemented it would definately have to be optional. We don't have this kind of betting that I am aware of and cannot really understand why anyone would want to place a bet on something when they have no control over what odds they are betting on.

Why would you bat on something at odds of 5:1 when you know that after the event you may only be paid 1:1 (or worse)?

Yes I know this, but I want my users to be able to bet on a horse race using virtual cash....when you bet on horseracing in America, you are never really sure what the final odds will be until betting is closed. There can be major swings if you bet early. I want to simulate the pari-mutuel style of betting in order to run a contest.

My plan was to put up a morning line, have people bet, then when the race is closed, change the odds to the actual OFF odds of the race in question, and then people will be paid in virtual cash the same exact amount of money had they bet on the race in real life.

Aren't there a few lines of code that can be added or changed to vBookie.php to have it calculate payouts based on the final odds instead of what the odds were when the person placed the bet?

Not anywhere in the U.S. If I bet on a horse race at 10 minutes to post, and the odds on my horse are 5-1, and when the race is finished and the betting is closed, the final odds are 3-1, I get paid at 3-1.....that's the way it has always been.....

Well this seems strange. I uploaded the files, imported the plugin, changed the permissions to the usergroups, but I only made the template change to newthread because I use ebux and don't need the postbit changes and my nav bar is cutom so don't really need that either......but yet when I make a new thread I can't get vbookie to show at the bottom so I can make a vbookie event. Any ideas?

How hard would it be to add an option to use the bookie's money when settling bets? ie. when you lay a bet the bookie receives the money, and then when you pay out the bets the winnings come out of the bookie's cash.

Some of my users have been taking advantage of a 'loophole' where they make their own events with big odds, bet on them themselves, then collect heaps of winnings. The money appears out of nowhere, so it's easily exploited, and means the site admin needs to keep a close eye on vbookie events. I think it would be more realistic if the bookie was the one who had to pay the winnings :)

Where you can change 10000 for desired value for max bet amount :)

That doesn't work right. Because if someone bets 10000 it changes their bet to 5000, and takes the rest of their money. :(

Its just letting some people bet and some not bet.

I know of 6 members that cannot place bets, all from different usergroups. Admin, a usergroup named 'site staff' and the registered member group.

If you're running the latest eBux mod (now called vbbux/vbplaza) you need to install the vbookie hooks that come with it, and change your vbookie setting to use the custom cash type.

I'm having the same problem as Oddjob's having. I upgraded to 1.0.7 because I needed the eBux support but now I can't bet on any events. I uninstalled, reinstalled, rebuilt bitflags but it still says "You may not bet on this event".

Edit: When I choose vCash from the vBookie settings, I can bet on events but as soon as I change it to eBux, I can't.

My problem was solved by uninstalling then reinstalling............

Here's the mod to make money bet on vbookie events go to the bookie, and to have any winnings paid out from the bookies money. If the bookie can't afford to pay the winnings, their cash is set to zero. If you're using vbbux, money will be taken from the bank if possible.

Backup your files before making these changes! I've only tested this on my own site (3.5.4), so proceed with caution!

I've made another fix for timezones that are not a round integer (we live in a +9.5 timezone and it caused some issues that needed fixing). I'd be interested in putting out a new release with this fixe in it and the above mod included in a tidier form (eg. admin option to turn it on/off etc). Can anyone point me to some info on how to go about taking over responsibility for this mod, that's assuming Andreas is willing to hand it over of course... I'm not looking to step on toes :)

geo1 - sorry about that problem, vcash is an unsigned int so it wraps to a large number instead of going negative.

Here's a fix that will set the bookies cash to 0 instead of going negative. NOTE: a bookie can exploit this by putting all their cash in the bank (for vbbux/ebux/ucash) before settling bets, so it's not perfect! This applies to all cash systems, just replace the entire vbookie_take_bookie_cash() function.

No. You only need that part if you're using vbBux.

I'll update my original post to include these changes, so only make this change if you already made the mod previously and need to fix the 'paying out more that you have' issue.

I just installed this hack and can't get it to except my attempts to change the usergroups permissions. I click on a usergroup and set everything to yes and then save it. It says it saves but then I check to see if its set to yes and they arn't. Has anyone else had this proble? or am I doing something wrong?

If you choose "settled", it brings my forum down. mysql gets a too many connections error. I do have a lot of settled events, but I can't understand why one query would bring it down. Either way, just thought I'd report it. I took the option off of my forums for the meantime. I'm using the latest version of vbookie.

A member created an event in vBookie, then my some mistake, they deleted the thread before they had closed the event.

The event is now still listed in vBookie, and can't be closed or deleted.

Having some trouble. When updating Usergroup settings, it is not saving the vBookie settings. As in, when I select "yes" can post events, it does not change to this, and stays on "no" when the page reloads.

All installed and uploaded as instructed however when in my Usergroup manager it will not allow me to change the options to Yes for posting events, and allowing to edit,etc it says updating but then sticks with them disabled.

Any ideas why or possible fix?
