Damn you and your "Fully Integrated SHoutbox" and "100% Valid XHTML 1.0" templates! :p

Now I bet fewer people will even bother with my shoutbox... I feel so unloved. :disappointed:

Oh, and by the way, nice hack. If I were into portals, I'd use it (except for the shoutbox, I made my own damnit! :D)

Works great, bar one problem. I have the following message coming up whenever i access the page

Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /absolute path to forums/BVE/forums/vbindex.php on line 747

I have the vbindex in the same dir as the forums, so i commented that chdir peice out as instructed, and am getting this error, any ideas anyone?

EDIT> It looks like it pertains to the eventcache.php file, which i have put in the /includes/cron dir as instructed, so it isn't down to it being in the wrong place

What version of php are you running?

SB2002

The webhost is running php v4.2.1

SB2002
01-03-2004, 11:50 AM
Ah, in an update i think i got it, looks like I had to type in the absolute url to the forums, and THEN comment it out? go figure. But whatever it was, it got rid of that bloody message, lol.

I can get this to work when I put it in my root forum folder, but not my website root folder. I think the thing tripping me up is entering the path. Exactly what format would it be it? (Keep in mind Im pretty much n00b at this.)

NTLDR i got a small request, Can you post an add on to show the shoutbox on the forum index page? Either as a side column or vertical? I know this steers away from the Portal aspect of it, but it would be nice to have it there aswell :)

There is no need to post the same question every other post. You'll find the answer over at Core Forums (http://www.coreforums.net/?coreid=2), the offical place for vBindex 3.

NTLDR

The first post has been updated with vBindex RC2, the one I was planning on releasing for vB3 RC1 had it been released on Monday ;)

RC2 contains the new templates that have the expaning/contracting blocks and a few other new features, which are listed in the first post.

If you thought installing Pre-RC2 was easy, wait untill you see this! Although there are no big changes for those of you upgrading, fresh installs are alot easier and the installer guides you through each step of the process and automates as much as it posibly can :D

MindTrix
01-03-2004, 09:16 PM

The list of new features is making me drool ;)

Thanks, Oh and any thoughts on my request a couple of posts up?

SnowBot

not all the files are in the attachment

eventcache.php - forums/includes/cron

thats not in the attachment not are the install instructions :(

Also, i have just upgraded from the first release to this one, and now every time i access vbioptions i get this message

Fatal error: Failed opening required './global.core' (include_path='/usr/lib/php:.') in /absolute path to forums/BVE/forums/admincp/vbioptions.php

I wasn't getting this error before, anyone have any ideas?

MindTrix
01-03-2004, 09:48 PM
yes i edited the HEADER part to delete the default vB buttons across the top as they was not needed but that was all.

SB2002
01-03-2004, 09:50 PM
I did that too, the new header template removes them anyways, so all i did was rename the old header, then replace it with the new one which is prefixed with _RC2 at the end. The upgrade went fine with me from start to finish, so i don't think it could be that, might be wrong tho

NTLDR
01-03-2004, 09:52 PM
Missing file added, problem with vbioptions.php fixed.

Error with the templates importing has been changed, however there is a posibility you may lose customisations to vBindex templates only.

MindTrix
01-03-2004, 09:57 PM
Ok so what should i do ? Re-download the zip, re upload ALL files??

SB2002
01-03-2004, 09:58 PM
thanks dude, that's fixed the vbioptions problem i was having. Great hack

NTLDR
01-03-2004, 10:01 PM
Only changes where vbioptions.php (fixed a minor bug), eventcache.php was missing, so upload that one and vbifunctions_upgrade.php which is the one that caused you problems with the install. Just upload those 3 and overwrite where needed.

01-03-2004, 10:03 PM

SnowBot
01-03-2004, 10:10 PM
yes, i mean when ppl go to my root domain they should get the portal page otherwise i have to give out http://www.synergyforums.com/vbindex.php
and not

http://www.synergyforums.com

SB2002

rename vbindex.php to index.php and it should automatically open the portal when you type in http://www.synergyforums.com/

Use that :p

or, assuming you have the access to edit your web servers configuration, add vbindex.php as one of the files it tries to find if nothing is specified

also the shoutbox button is just blank :(

NTLDR

It seems vB3 Gamma was being funny about exporting the phrases. I've updated the zip with a fresh vbindex_phrases.xml file which you can upload and re-run the installer to import them.

The navbar is one of the three (the other two being pm_popup_script and headinclude) templates you need to edit to use the full URL.

NTLDR

Correct *lol* The phrases didn't export properly from my site which is why there are odd bits of text missing here and there, download the zip again and replace vbindex_phrases.xml and run vbiupgraded.php?step=10 and it will re-import them and add the missing ones.

The menus won't work untill you have edited at minium the headinclude and navbar templates to make sure all links in <script> <a> and <form> tags have a full URL.

while i wait to be recognized on your forums, let me ask this here

SPECIFICALLY you say that the url must be included in all tags, and there is some confusion over getting this exactly

from headinclude

<script type="text/javascript" src="clientscript/vbulletin_global.js"></script>

does this need to be edited and if so, where does $vboptions/ be inserted or should i put the actual hard url in there and how should it look?

from navbar

<td><span class="navbar"><a href="$vboptions[forumhome].php?$session[sessionurl]">$vboptions[bbtitle]</a></span> $navbits[breadcrumb]</td>

would that become [b]$vboptions[bburl]/$vboptions[forumhome].php?$session[sessionurl]

i'll just leave these two examples at the moment

it's a little frustrating :(

NTLDR

okay

in headinclude search for <script type="text/javascript" src="
in each instance you need to put http://www.yourdomain.com/forums/ after the scr=" and before the text that is already there
eg: clientscript/vbulletin_global.js would be http://www.yourdomain.com/forums/clientscript/vbulletin_global.js

in navbar search for href=" and following the " in every instance, you want to insert http://www.yourdomain.com/forums
eg: <!--<td class="vbmenu_control"><a href="$vboptions[forumhome].php?$session[sessionurl]">Home</a></td>--> would be
<!--<td class="vbmenu_control"><a href="http://www.yourdomain.com/forums/$vboptions[forumhome].php?$session[sessionurl]">Home</a></td>-->

you also need to follow the same steps for each instance of script type="text/javascript" src="

in pm_popup search for window.open"/private.php? and after the " insert the url

window.open("http://www.yourdomain.com/forums/private.php?

Fwiw, I have a non-hacked version of VB3 RC-1 installed in my /forum directory with the root directory as the location for Vbindex. This is what I assume would be the 'standard' directory setup.
Has anyone successfully installed Vbindex with this directory setup yet? If so, did you have to deviate at all from the instructions at the beginning of this thread?

Henry.

NTLDR
01-04-2004, 08:45 PM
Visit vbiupgraded.php?step=7 to carry on from where your browser crashed. I've run the installer on standard RC1 and Gamma installed numerous times with no issues at all. If you have the google/alexa toolbar installed you may wish to disable them as its known to cause problems with vB's install/upgrade process and the same may occur here.

lolwtfomgoic, there is no way this will prevent access to the ACP, it maybe usefull to post the errors you got emailed, otherwise nothing can be done to help.

chas_h
01-04-2004, 08:49 PM
Thanks for replying.... I had Google toolbar running and that must have been it. The thing is, should I go and delete all the tables already created by the partial install and start a new install? If not it won't get beyond those steps.

Henry.

P.s. I just saw the link to the 7th step you provided so that I can pick it up from there, thanks again.

No luck with that, even tried it on another box without Google installed. Will clean out the new Mysql talbes and start from scratch. Is there anything else I should change/remove to get back to the start again?

H.

NTLDR
01-04-2004, 09:24 PM
Starting from the begining isn't going to help in your case, however if you want to you'll need to go through the installer files and reverse all the queries.

Its been reported that the phrases/templates can be imported normally via the ACP Download/Upload part of the respective XML file, however I can't confirm it will work and not have adverse effects.

chas_h
01-04-2004, 09:42 PM
Well, I may just start from scratch (forum and all) as it was a test forum anyway. I am still evaluating whether to use Vb3 or the older Vb2.3.3 for a new project.
But is there possibly another reason that this is failing at step #7? And just to confirm what it says in the opening page of this install, those edits to the vbiconfig.php and the template edits don't need to be done til 'after' the install has been run, correct?

H.

NTLDR
01-04-2004, 09:52 PM
The edits can be done at any time, however vBindex either won't work at all, or won't work properly untill they are done. I recomend at least doing the vbiconfig.php one straight away as it gives you the exact changes and you'll need it to even view vBindex.

Other reasons for failing to install? No reason for it not too, if it managed to import vB's Style and Phrases there shouldn't be any reason why it can't import much smaller files.

I see nothing wrong with your board, yet everything instead of nothing, I prob want to ask you how could you make the images work/

did you change the url in vbiconfig.php in the 1st step of the installation ?

NTLDR

Is there a way to import existing shouts from TWT's Shoutbox hack for vB2? Wouldn't want to lose the thousands that are archived.

If you have either TWT's Shoutbox, or vBindex 2.x install the shouts will be converted to the vBindex 3 format during the installation :)

For those of you having errors with the installer, re-download the zip file, a few changes have been made which should correct the errors that alot of you are reporting, eg templates causing DB errors.

If the installer dies at any step, just re-visit that URL and it should continue for the majority of steps.

Warning: chdir(): No such file or directory (errno 2) errors are cause because you either A) haven't followed the clear instructions on the first step of the install process to edit vbiconfig.php or B) your upgrading from a different vBi version, in which case you need to change the CHDIR_PATH in vbiconfig.php, instructions are in the file.

I can't help people with image folders, if you don't know the URL to your own image folder there is no way on earth I'm going to. It should be a full URL containing no variables, suitable examples include:

The install was a little rough but everything seems to be working except the calendar.

I have an event scheduled on the 12th of January and the number isn't a link. Should it be?

Also, is the calendar only supposed to show Mon - Fri?

http://www.dbstalk.com

NTLDR
01-05-2004, 12:56 PM
Yes, only monday to friday are supposed to show, otherwise the calendar becomes rediculously wide in comparision with the other blocks. Events will only show after the cron job for vBindex has run, this is added during the install and listed as vBindex Event Cache in the Schedualed Task Manager.

There is only only file edit to make, which is to vbiconfig.php to add the correct path to your forums, where the files should be uploaded is listed in Upload.txt.

If it didn't say what the database error was then it would have been emailed to you.

My forum (www.martialartsplanet.com) has most dates at the weekend - is there any way of putting this on a parameter?

Also, it would be nice to be able to put some items (apart from latest news) in the centre column. Perhaps this could solve the calendar width issue if it was put in the centre?

For those of you who get the ACP login when viewing vBindex there was a small bug that caused incorrect text be to shown for the edit to vbiconfig.php, make sure the path there doesn't have admin or admincp or whatever your admin folder is at the end.

Image paths, for a standard vB style would be http://www.mydomain.com/forums/images/button (where button is the type of image directory) assuming your forum is at http://www.mydomain.com/forums if you didn't do this via the installer, you'll need to goto the style manager and change them all.

NTLDR

All the install/upgrade instructions are within the installer, ie, they upload the files start the installer as instructed in the first post of this thread and then the first step tells them exactly howto edit vbiconfig.php (and which templates need editing). You probably have an out dated zip Wayne. I've just check the latest attachment and eventcache.php is definatly there and the text file has been updated to include the XML files. I may be being completely useless here, but the header image path is

I have replaced this image with the one I want to show (the one on the main forum), using the same file name. The main forum picks up this image with no problems. However, it will not show it on the vbindex.php. The main forum also has the missing cascade images, which will not show on the vbindex.php.

the shady style has a heading image called hereyah_logo_clear.gif. I have replaced this with the image I want to show, and before I install vbindex this was the file shown. Do you think this could be the cause?

Make sure you have enabled news on the vBindex Options page and have entered the forumid of your news forum (it looks like 63 from looking at your site).

Adding custom blocks is easy, enter the number 1 in the field in the options page, submit it and then once the page has reloaded you'll then be able to assign it to one of the side blocks which it seems you have already done. Just edit the vbindex_customblock_1 template and add the HTML for your links :)

It doesn't display them in a sperate block, each day in the calendar that has event(s) is hyperlinked and has a tooltip with the event(s) title(s).

2 - Will the news automatically be updated once a new news post is added? I had a previous portal that required I run a php file to update the news display on the index.php page.

As soon as you post in your specified newsforum the news appears on the front page. No file edits, no PHP files to run :)

OK, I think I figured out my problem, the upgrade process never told me what to enter as the path in my vbiconfig.php and that was the same step that had me stumped in the original version. How do you find out what your path is, I have tried a variety of things and none of them seem to work.

This should be a crime.

A crime that an awesome portal such as this is so friggin easy to install.

Theres gotta be some law about that, if not, give GWB enough time to find it.

The actual portal install took bout 5 minutes, figuring out the nav bar trick took bout 10 minutes. Customizing the boxes will take a week ;)

Right on guys. I'm sorry I didnt know you had previous releases before rc :(

Your server path?

It will report that on that page, if not, what ftp proggie do you use? many of them will give you the exact path up at the top.

OK, I have got it working to an extent. A problem I am having is that my forums are at http://forums.method-call.com but whenever I try to log in from the portal page it tries to access http://www.method-call.com/login.php. How do I prevent this?

OK, it also seems that to get images to appear on the portal page I had to change the image path setting to forums/images/etc and now on the forum page all the images are set to http://forums.method-call.com/forums/whatever.

How don't they work correctly? Its posible the installer messed them up, but I've not exeprienced any problems with it. Any details you can give would be great.

You need to edit the form in the navbar template so login.php points to the correct place. Your image paths should be like this: http://forums.method-call.com/images/etc

Therefore I've got choice but only ask for some support from you guys.

Many thanks in advance!

Of course thats just a logical guess, I think you missed the 'l' on the end of public_html :)

This is still not working for me. Every step leads me to a button that says convert/install shoutbox. The options page loads but all the menus are empty, the vbindex.php page is blank. When I load vbiupgrade.php where it supposed to say what to change in the config file is blank, but I changed it to /home/sites/www.rapcheck.com/web/b/ anyways as thats the path to my forums. What am I doing wrong here???

NTLDR

Download the RC3 files on the first post and continue from whatever step you have got to so far.

RC3 Details

The first post now contains the vBindex RC3 zip file, this should correct all the errors and problems found in RC2 and contains more detailed install information and the HTML for the template edits for those of you unsure on howto do them.

I'm considering this a testing realease for a few days, so RC2 is still avalible for download. RC3 has been tried and worked fine for me on a fresh install of vB3 RC2 and I've upgraded a Pre-RC2 install running on vB3 Gamma with no problems.

I've tried going through steps manually by changing the url (vbiupgrade.php?step=3,4 etc) and it either gives me an error saying something already exists or it sends me back to the shoutbox error above.

the vbioptions page menus are still empty, and the vbindex page is still blank.

NTLDR

vbiupgrade.php doesn't contain any steps that do the installation, if you know how far you got in the install process I can tell you which file to start from :)

Edit; If you got as far as step 3, but step 4 didn't work then start from vbiupgrade2.php?step=4

I got as far as getting this error, or in other words clicking the button on the vbiupgrade.php page.

Database error in vBulletin 3.0.0 Release Candidate 2:
Invalid SQL:
CREATE TABLE vbindex_shoutbox (
shoutid int(11) NOT NULL auto_increment,
userid int(11) NOT NULL default '0',
shout text NOT NULL,

Referer: http://www.rapcheck.com/b/install/vbiupgrade.php

Then you told me to skip that step after I posted about it, so I changed the step number in the url (http://www.rapcheck.com/b/install/vbiupgrade1.php?step=2) I went up to 10, each time only sending me to a page with a button that says Convert/Install shoutbox. So I kept messing with the url, went through vbiupgrade2 and 3 and step numbers to 10. The only steps that did anything where http://www.rapcheck.com/b/install/vbiupgrade1.php?step=3
Database error in vBulletin 3.0.0 Release Candidate 2:
Invalid SQL: INSERT INTO datastore (title, data) VALUES ('vbindex_setting', 222)

Script: http://www.rapcheck.com/b/install/vbiupgrade1.php?step=3
http://www.rapcheck.com/b/install/vbiupgrade2.php?step=4 (Creating vBindex Phrase Groupe...)

Everything else sends me back to the shoutbox install/convert.

NTLDR
01-07-2004, 11:41 PM
There is no reason I can see why it should keep sending you back to that step. All I can suggest is to run through each step manually:

Steps 1, 2 and 3 are in vbiupgrade1.php, 4 is in vbiupgrade2.php 5 and 6 are in vbiupgrade3.php and 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11 are in vbiupgraded.php, if you get errors its more than likly the step has already been run.

Note though, each page when I manually did the steps the button was the shoutbox step and on vbiupgraded.php?step=8 the info I put into the boxes wouldnt save and brought me back to step 8 when pressing save. Dont know whats up with that.

EDIT, apparently the info did save but I was brought back to the undedited text boxes when pressing save.

Looks like everythings working fine now. *Clicks Install*

Hi,

installed fine, no problems at all however when i tried to do the vBindex Options Link in the ACP i had a slight problem.

I have added the code as it says to however the menu does not show the new item. Its there but the drop down bit is not as low as it needs to be and so i can just see the top of the link.

hope you understand what i mean.

Anyways, I have vbindex up and running perfect (as far as I know) EXCEPT I can't login from the nav bar login form. It simply takes me to the forum index page. The template has been changed to what was supplied in the zip. Have to login from a no permission or admin page.

Every single one of those errors is related to one of the news posts, something which I can't control, all the HTML generated in that post is done with vB's BB Code Parser, if I removed that post you should find it is Valid XHTML.
