You need to edit the vbindex_latestthreabit template and remove the $vboptions[bburl]/ from the icon <img /> tag.

Your index.htm file has nothing to do with vBindex. You need to re-upload whatever you had before to get your specific setup to work. Alternatively rename vbindex.php to index.php and it should appear as the default page on most setups.

You can use the dynamic custom blocks to create a coppermine box, however I don't use coppermine so I can provide you with any code.

I have no problem wit hthe copyright. It's just where it is that's the problem. (Notice the MOVE not REMOVE) I have tables surrounding the entire vbulletin software and the copyright just hangs at the end, messing up the tables and basically the entire layout.

Is there any way to move it or no?

I just upgraded to vBulletin 3.0.3 and updated all my styles to work like the vbulletins when it comes to <if> and $parameter etc.
I also copied all of the edited styles to my vbindex styles.

Since i run my vbindex at another directory (www) and forum in (forum) i have added all bburl to all the proper places and it works almoust perfect.

In the navbar there is a "Private Messages: 0 Unread, Total 134." text where you can click on the "Private Messages" to get to your inbox. It seams like vBulletin has moved the URL (before it was private.php) to some other place and i cant find it.

So the link doesnt work at the moment from vbindex, does anybody know how to solve it?

For some reason it is trying to pull the wrong URL for the smilies.

If you do a search in ur templates you should find the calendar.core in the "calendar_smallmonth_header" and "calendar_smallmonth_day" Templates

Find:
calendar.core

and replace with

calendar.php

Trying to get my "Whats Going On" to work in my vbindex home page... I've added this code to the vbindex template right above the welcome code. It works great on my forum home page with this code, but only shows the Title bar and no events or birthdays on the vbindex page. i just tried to install VbIndex with the latest VBulletin. The installation runs fine (but still has the loop). At the end, i can configure VBindex. After doing so, it claims something like Vbindex_settigns_foo could not be saved /changed - it only appairs very short. There is no new menu entry "VbIndex" in the admincp.
If i want to reinstall, it claims VBindex already installed. Anybody can help me ?

Great vBindex, installed on a fresh version of (vBulletin 3.0.3) and mostly went well. I had a small problem with polls not showing & causing sql error but im sure i can work around that 1.

OK, I've re-installed my board (for other reasons), and now the board is in the root (www.gamehub.co.uk (http://www.gamehub.co.uk/)). So I've tried reinstalling the portal whilst following the instructions carefully, (following your additional instruction above as well), only nothing shows up at all. So what else can I do to make the installer run?

I've heard it talked about before. The login boxes do not allow me to login to ANYWHERE from them... all they do is take me to the forums homepage. I have my forums on a subdomain http://forums.armageddononline.org and I have the vbindex page (renamed to index) in my main directory. http://www.armageddononline.org/index.php

I have read you need to change the navbar somewhere and change the prefixes or the URL's or something. I tried messing with it, but was unsuccessful. The ONLY thing I need to get to work, is the login boxes on the main page... if SOMEONE... ANYONE, can please tell me what to do to correct them I would be very thankful. I don't understand what I did wrong...

I've heard it talked about before. The login boxes do not allow me to login to ANYWHERE from them... all they do is take me to the forums homepage. I have my forums on a subdomain http://forums.armageddononline.org and I have the vbindex page (renamed to index) in my main directory. http://www.armageddononline.org/index.php

You have one of two problems here (or maybe both):

1) Make sure your board URL is set correctly in the vBulletin Options;
2) Make sure your cookie domain is set to .armageddononline.org (yes, 2 dots ;)) and the cookie path is set to /

The code from the FORUMHOME template won't work on vBindex. You'll need to enable the relevent options and the copy the code segments from the various templates within vBindex to generate the desired look.

I managed to get rid of the horizontal scrollbar by changing the table width to 89%.

But I still don't know how to make the vertical scrollbar automatically be at the bottom instead of at it's usual place at the top.
Do you know any javascript I could use to do such a thing?

rather then using software like javascript to go to the bottom, i would reverse the order. On my page the shouts are from top to bottom and from latest to oldest shout.

Install this hack and then use the variable from the template in your customer block template. Then you have a 10 minute caching as well which will reduce your SQL queries.

after having seen no answer to this problem, i created a quick and dirty fix for this. I had the same problem and due to this, i had to react.

Here is the solution to prevent banned users to shout:

Find in vbindex.php the following text:

I don't think google spiders these apges at all - and if they do - they would all be spidered with out custom titles and metas.

Is there any way to customize the titles and metas for each page? Simply putting the tags in the vbindex_extra_page slots does does nothing, and Im facing the possibility of having to make an entirely different page/pages for listing in search engines.

Why not just create a php page that contains your information pulling from the database as all it seems you want is news? Probably easier than killing all lines of code. Just a thought.

hi all, ive download and installed this and it works fine on the default VB skin.
I have one other skin which is the Ambience skin, during the installation i use the full image paths EG -

and this path for the Ambience skin-

But when i goto save them and continue installing it just saves them without the 'ambience' folder, just like this 'http://www.project-a.co.uk/forum/images/misc/vbulletin3_logo_white.gif'

Two questions. First, has anyone figured out how to edit the character limit on the Latest Threads (center block)? All of the thread titles are being cut short and I would like to retain more of the title. As-is it's cutting them so short it's difficult to determine the thread title.

This leads to my second question, this wouldn't be as much of an issue if the mouse-over popup gave you the entire thread title like it does on Forum Home. Instead it behaves like Forum Display which gives you the first few lines of the post itself. How can I change the behavior to that of Forum Home (popup shows entire thread title)?

Ideally I would like to implement both changes, so any help is appreciated. I searched this thread and on core forums to no avail :(

I have created a table around $home[news] to house the threads.

Then I changed the vbindex_newsbit template so that one thread doesn't run into the next.

The news box will keep on duplicating itself so long as you set the parameters.

E.g. Let us say you tell the news box to call the news from forumid=10 and you have 2 threads in there. Then the news box will display the 2 threads. If you add another 3 threads then the news box will display 5 threads, one under the other so long as you have the total number of news threads displayed set to 5 or more. Once the number of threads in the forum surpasses the number you have specified then the news box will only display the 5 newest threads.

Does this make sense? I know how hard it can be if the language you are reading is not your native tongue. Let me know if I need to clarify anything.

Here you go. Simply open the attached file and use its contents to replace the VBINDEX template information. You can do this via your style manager.

It will function with your vBindex admincp settings, so you can turn on or off the display of users from the last 24 hours.

The only thing lacking is the conditional to turn online users on and off. At the moment it is on by default but if NTLDR (or someone else) could assist by correcting the following conditional I can then complete the template.

Sorry NTLDR (no offence intended I think your portal mod is sensational) but all of the portals I came across were great but only satisfied about 85% of what I wanted. So my own custom job was always on the cards.

I was under the impression that it did. Basically if a post has images in it then they should be displayed in the news section.

I think I understand. You are putting images in your posts, but when these are displayed on the vBindex home page the images don't show up?

I'm having a strange problem with this. Everything works fine except on top of all the boxes if someone uses a post icon it's not showing.... The link is displaying like this:

The vBindex navbar info is drawn from a different template to your standard navbar. In the style manager look under vbindex_navbar. You may need to add some links or change their order to conform with the rest of your site.

Yes and no. I have worked out a way to integrate the normal home page into the vBIndex portal, but when I do it stops the news function from working.

Everything else works OK, just there is no news. So I have drawn a blank for the moment. If anyone else has tried this and got it working your assistance would be most appreciated.

Unless you have renamed you vbindex.php file index.php then you won't see anything new. If you have just uploaded the files and installed the hack as standard then you need to go to www.yourdomain.com/forum/vbindex.php

Then you should see your vbindex portal.

Save, and then reload. Now, in the drop down lists for the blocks just select the new one and you'll be running!

Great hack, I'm currently customizing and then I will create a new custom skin from the ground up for a new site I'm creating...

Anyways, I'd like to know how I would be able to do something like this:

On the custom boxes, I'd have a link for, oh say, reviews. The link would be <a href="index.php?page=reviews">Reviews</a> - When clicked, I'd like the news part to be replaced by a block that looks like a news post, but has customizable content.

Anyone know how to do this?

You have to remember you can have only one "index.php" file in one area. I have vBindex running in the same spot as VBull is.

Before you install vBindex your link to your site would be like... http://www.yoursite.org/index.php

with the poll mysql error make sure if you have random selected you put all in the forum id box

oh and just put the vbindex.php and the vbiconfig in a seprate folder and rename the vbindex.php to index.php and it works just fine :)

Just wondering if anyone has been able to get RSS feeds into their vBIndex template.

Id like them to appear as actual news feeds, just like a normal news post...so, not in the custom boxes that are tall and narrow, but in the news area that is wide ...if you get my meaning :)

I've installed it here: www.emptythecup.com but i'm missing something in the CSS...you should be able to tell the second it opens. I went through the Styles and made sure to use absolute links to all images (which sucked, but i did it)...and i'm still missing something.

to make it work on my site i named the portal index.php and my forum index i called forum.php so i just make sure all the links are pointed to the correct page and they are in the same forum folder, just edit the header or the navbar to fix the links

change vbindex to adv_index.

Do note you have to change the Forums index.php to forums.php in the admincp, and this hacks vbindex to index.php. and you have to physically rename the scripts as well.

Now I'm looking to customise the feel of it a bit, I want to move the user info/avatar into a frame at the right of the post, and also to allow an image to be added to the left of the news article, but to still have the text alongside this rather than under it.

Is there a guide on how to configure this?

if you right-click on the image and go to properties it will show you the path of where the image is stored on your server. you can then replace the images with your own..

I just purchased vBulletin and am getting it all set up before converting my phpBB forum.

I want to use vBindex as I am presently using Smartor's EX Portal with phpBB.

What is the best thing to do. get the new vb forum completely set up the way I want it with the color scheme (skin) I intend to use etc and then install vBindex or should I install it first.

My members are getting logged out of the frontpage (vbindex page) when they don't put www in front of my site tripleplate.com

Basically, when they just go to http://tripleplate.com they can't log in. They keep trying but it loops them back to being not logged in. Same thing for me. But if we put http://www.tripleplate.com we CAN login and it cookies it.

EDIT: I already fixed that. :nervous:

However I have a few errors still;

one is the calendar events (that are linked numbers) dont work. Just click on any day with an event on it and you'll see.

Another is when I press log out it tells me an error occured and gives me a link..
