Looks like possibly 1 of two things


chmod permissions not properly set.
still some minor misconfiguration in your vbiconfig.php
Are you on a Windows Server? some servers are picky when it comes to file permissions, it dont hurt to use 775 (temporarily), then slowly lower it to 755 or even lower, there might be one file that isnt chmod'd to execute properly.

Make sure the install process finished and that the vbindex_ templates are in the relevent style. You can re-import them either by re-running the installer or though the Style Upload function in the ACP.

Tried a couple of times to install this now and every single time it messes up all the styles. When i do step 8 of the install it shows the wrong image paths for that style, currently have 60 styles on my board most of which use different button sets and banners so I end up having to skip that part and redo all the paths once the install is over. Any ideas why it does this?

If you don't update the images paths then you'll end up with all the images broken on vBindex.

Yeah.. I believe you will also need to change it from vbupgrade3 to vbupgraded.. and then change the 6 to a 7 for it to work correctly.

We're having one issue that isn't a show stopper, but isn't the expected behavior either.

We have a quarenteened posts forum and I use it to create and edit threads before I put um live sometimes. Well I created 3 threads in there today and they show up in the threads list of the vbindex portal even though the forum is is in the exclude list. Regular users don't see them, the permissions are working fine, it's the exclude that seems to be at fault.

Any ideas?

I just upgraded to rc4 from rc3. vBindex is still working fine, but there is no longer an option in the admincp for vbindex options.

I like my members to be logged in before they can view the board.

One thing with vbindex is that if you have your board set like that, and aren't logged in, then your site homepage (VBindex) looks bare, cos all the last posts, polls etc cannot be viewed by my members unless they are logged in or registered.

The question is, Is it possible to make VBindex show everything, even when on the forum you must be logged in??

Did that make sense?

Alternativly, the following should work and would be better find:

This will use normal permissions for users logged in and will ignore permissions for those users who are logged out. With this method you can enter the forums you want to hide in the vBindex Options and they will be excluded from everyone.

They will be incorrect iff the user logged in doesn't have access to the forum where the new post is. Excluding all the private forums would probably put too much load on the server however its something I'll be looking into for a new version.

Here's something I just noticed, and wondering if you can give me an explanation why it's like this... But the online users on the vbindex page is different than the forum home page for guests.

I'm logged out and the vbindex page shows 16 online, 3 members 13 guests. I load up the forum homepage at the same time, 21 online, 10 members 11 guests. If you're logged in it shows the same on both.

vBindex works with every version of vBulletin after Gamma. If you getting errors its because your not following the instructions/trying to run the installer multiple times.

There isn't an uninstaller yet, however if you run the query listed in the first post and then upload all the files from the latest zip file attached here and run vbipgraded.php?step=7 which should finish continue and finish the install.

The template for the scrolling shoutbox could be altered to have a lower z-index value than the popup menus ... maybe the popup menus need a uber-high z-index value to compensate for extra features like the Arcade and the scrolling shoutbox etc ?

I've looked through a good bit of the posts, but maybe I missed it. Is there a way to pass a parameter along with the ?page=xxxx in the url to turn off the right column and top welcome box? This would make viewing the other pages much easier due to giving them more width. I don't want to go through ACP and turn off the right column because I use it on the main index page. If i set in the group_permissions to canseehidden (standard as an admin) - all Onlineusers show correct.
99 Onlineusers - 81 Member and 18 Guestes!
(only 9 user are in invisiblemode)

For the love of all things that are good, can someone please tell me what the 'Exclude Forums IDs' does? I'd love to figure out how to keep certain forums out of the latest threads list.

That should do the trick. Note this will only work if you don't have the folls forumid set to 'ALL'.

I'm having major gripes regarding the installation of VBIndex phrases, and timeouts. The installer creates the groups for the phrases, but inserts no phrases into the group, yet the installer seems to go without any errors (besides a non-fatal one about SCRIPT_EXTENSION already being defined).
I tried using vbiupgraded.php?step=10 to import the phrases, also tried importing them via the phrase manager. Both methods manage to exceed the maximum execution time of 30 seconds. This is especially frustrating, as I've modified settings in php.ini and httpd.conf to try and increase the timeout limit, to no avail.

In a last-ditch attempt I appended vBIndex's phrases to vbulletin-language.xml and reinstalled everything. Once again, the phrase groups show up, but they are empty. I can still use vBIndex, and even managed to configure it by looking at the input label names in the HTML source, but y'know... I can't use this on my site in it's current state :ermm:

Oh, and here's some info about my 'rig'. Hope you can stop me wanting to smash it. Thanks.

I really love vBindex and i have been using it for some time now, but one thing i have noticed is that the users stop at (vb)index and doesnt move on to the forum.

I have tried to make it some userfriendly by making the logo a direct link to the forum etc and also soon going to add a "too forum" button into the style.

But what would be the best for me and other forumowners is if there was a link to the forum at the top of the index page. Its hard to describe so ill show you a site that has done this: http://www.theadminzone.com

They have a "TheAdminZone.com Home Page | Bullletin Board" over the menu.

If you dont want to add something like this to the vBindex, maybe you can answer where i have to add it, is it a style thing, or do i have to hack a php file?

The templates don't seem to import via the installer, but I've managed to add them later using the AdminCP's style manager. It looks fine, apart from the missing phrases.

EDIT: Uploading an unmodified vbulletin-language.xml also times out when importing via the AdminCP. I really hoped that the fresh install using the appended language file would work... D:
I'm going to try and add each one individually; I'll soon find out if it is in fact a Windows problem, if that doesn't fix it.

One of the features we like is the news on the index page. We wanted the first post displayed to be about us and encouraging guests to join. The sticky took care of that.

Here's the but, once registered there is no need for a member to see that post at the top of the vbindex page anymore. So we we added a condition before the vbnews code is run so if the user is a member and stickys is on, stickys is turned off. This was real easy using the bitmasks for vbindex options.

OK, I eventualy got everything working both on my localhost and my live site. Looks well spanky.

I'm at the stage now where I'm tweaking things, so I decided to have a crack at the image paths. This checks the array $phrasegroups[] for 'vbindex' and prepends $vboptions[bburl] to all the image folder URLs in $stylevar['imgdir_xxx'] if it's found.

This can be done in forums/global.php, around line 377:

EDIT: vB's code box has for some reason inserted extraneous spaces in the above code around 'statusicon'. Use your noggin and strip them out :p

You shouldn't have to hack anything else for this to work, but unfortunately, this only seems to work on the header and navbar, and not the other vBIndex templates. Any ideas?

We are getting an xhtml error on vbindex when we add custom boxes.


Below are the results of attempting to parse this document with an SGML parser.

Removing the tbody tags cleans it up, but you lose the little arrow to collapse the boxes.

You just edit the vBindex templates in the Style Manager. Everyone wants something different, but as long as you can create your own graphics and generate HTML (or know someone who can) changing the look is very easy.

You either need to rename index.php to something else and change the value in the vBulletin options or alter your server config to make vbindex.php one of the default documents before index.php.

This is by design, however you can edit the vbindex_newsbit template and move the avatar somewhere else.

I followed the instructions perfectly. I love installing things. Wee. Great.

Ok so... I first installed this on a test forum.
It appeared to have installed fine. But when I go to the vbindex, it says there was a slight problem with db... not sure why. So, in short- the hack failed. I can access the controls for the vbindex, save my changes, all that. But nothing's going on.

Then I set it up on the real forum. This time I was very careful and made very sure I followed every step exactly and slowly. Everything was fine until I got to where you edit the image paths. I would edit them, click Save and the page would just reload very quickly and my changes would be gone. This kept happening. I couldn't go any further. So I pointed my browser to upgraded and maybe that didn't help the situation or hurt it, but I gave it a shot.. it showed me that it was finishing but it didn't forward me to the admin section or anything. The page went dead just like the other. And my controls for it look like the attachment below. Scary, isn't it? And when I click save I get that it can't find vbindex_settings_saved.

So my test or the real thing just didn't work out.

What the .. ?
Is this because my database is wacky because my vB is a convert of an Invision Board?

Your phrases haven't imported correctly, re run vbiupgraded.php?step=10 to have the installer try and import them again.

Note the 'edit image paths' screen appears for every single style you have, so your changes probably were not lost.

Thank you for all of your help so far. I'm glowing in the fact this might just work. It was a long struggle to get our Invision 1.2 into a vB3! And now I am trying to install all of the things that we need, and it just seems to be because of the template crud in the tables left over from Invision.

You can create user profile fields for members to enter there own content into a custom box and use $bbuserinfo[fieldX] (X being the number of the field) to display the contents.

The next version of vBindex will allow you to have dynamic custom boxes by inserting the PHP code into templates.

To make the width 100% just edit the VBINDEX template and change the width from $stylevar[tablewidth] to 100%.

To place the shoutbox under the welcome panel use $side[shoutbox] in the VBINDEX template where you want it. This should work.

I am just guessing, but can this be done, as i know there are issues with Php includes.

You cannot use PHP in custom blocks untill the next version. Rename the $header variable in in the phpinlcude_start template with something like $randompic and then place that in the custom block.

In order for smilies to work on vBindex you will need to go into the Smilie Manager in the vBulletin Admin Control Panel and edit the smilies to use a full URL.

Sometime after vB3 Gold is released vBindex RC4 will be released which will have at minium a center block for latest threads and dynamic custom blocks.

The modification to limit news text can be found at Core Forums (http://www.coreforums.net/?coreid=2) however as I've mentioned before due to BB Code it may not allways work very well.

The templates listed for editing are part of the default vB style. The solution to your error has probably already been posted here, but unless you specify what it is no one can help you.

ok, i checked all vbulletin folders and found no templates in any one of them except images inside cpstyles. the only place i know i could edit template is by going to the admin panel and then on to the Style Manager. Is this what u mean?

Now as for my problem, i have already stated them above. I can't install past Step 7. I get an error page everytime i get into this part. I followed the instruction though but can't understand why the installation stopped at Step 7. Could someone point me to the right place to look for solution?

Everything looks great, good work. Just one question and I search through the templates trying to figure this out but I am not an expert at this although I managed to figure out allot by myself.

Here is my question, my web host has 6 hour time difference on the Calender it highlights the correct day according to the time offset, but on the top of the calender it advances a day 6 hours early, I cannot figure out which variable I would have to change in the templets to have it follow the time offset of the forums which I image would be what the user selects wouldn't it?

Easy to fix though, just a duplicate entery in the database.

to start over, execut the following SQL query

DELETE FROM template WHERE title like LCASE('vbindex%')
AND title NOT like 'vbindex_extra_%';

The vBindex Options won't work untill the install process has been finished correctly. Take a look at the error and the query(s) to correct it will probably be in upgrade.php/upgrade1.php

vBindex 3.0.0 RC4 should be out next week which will have better support for re-installing.

As your running vBindex in the name directory as the forums then the template edits don't effect you :)

The Quote, Code, HTML and PHP BB Codes seem to have some problems mainly with Mozilla where the text expands past the border for the box its in.

I got a problem with the installation.

When i am at step 10 to click next step to upgrade to vbindex Rc3 complete.

It carrys on past this point and says "Next Step ()" And just keeps saying it every time i click.

I then try and access the vbindex.php page and it is blank

I go into the admin cp and the options for vbindex are all blank apart from some options "calender" and "poll"

What have i missed?

Okay, I figured out how to put the calendar at the bottom of the page. In the VBINDEX template, I added this right above $home[footer]:

Currently the first calendar a user has access to is displayed, so if you have calendars with IDS 2, 4 , 7, 9 and the user has access to 4 and 9 then 4 would be shown.

You need to make sure you've edited all the templates detailed in the install process.
