well since this hack lacks any support here,.. I've uninstalled it.. got kinda tired fooling with bugs.. and personally, i don't see any progress here. despite the author claiming a new version over a month ago.. kinda hard to beta test something when bugs aren't being fixed.

I had a few conversion projects in the work but I lost interest when I found out how easy it was to cheat. :(

There has to be some way of making this more secure.

Please make the files available that you have worked on so the games can be finished! Even though it is easy to cheat, i dont think it will be hard to stop, and also not many people know that you can cheat (or how to)

Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

There is a new version, it is up and running on my site WITH the bugs fixed, and it will be released as soon as I am able to sit down and dedicate a few hours to coming up with a viable install file. I once again made the mistake of saying I could do it when I was busy with other stuff, and I apologize for that.

But still, I am getting hate mail both here and on my own sites because of this hack. Do you people really think that motivates me to work on it? I know it is only a few people here and there, but still, it isn't the best motivator. I should note that I am also receiving a good number of requests from unlicensed vB users trying to get support from me.

I should be back home in a day or so and at that time I will make it a priority to get the version that I have finished released. I also have the .FLA files of the five current games ready to go and will post those as well.

I would work on it right now, but it is 3 AM and I'm sitting in a cheapo motel room in Utah using my notebook and a cell phone to access the internet at like 1 KB/sec. :)

Looking forward to the updates, futureal, and thanks!

And to those sending him hate mail, for shame! None of the hack makers here are under any obligation to you, me, or anyone else. They do it because they want to contribute to the vb community, and definitely don't deserve such crappy treatment!

Sebastian

there are MANY questions in this thread that haven't got an answer. If you want people to beta test something at least take the time and answer a question every so often, once a month doesn't quite kick it... Especially when you checked the little box when releasing the hack that you will provide support. If you wasn't going to provide support like the title says you shouldn't have checked the box, so people know not to bother asking questions and talking to walls.

Sebastian, it still doesn't excuse people for sending hate mail. There's just no justifying that at all!

Now I'm sure futureal is trying his best in help people with this hack who might have questions and problems, and he has done this in the past, perhaps not as much as he would like right now but like everyone is aware of there is an issue with time, there is never enough of it. Just be patient, its not like you’ve paid for the hack, so when futureal gets some more free time he’ll release the next version and answer some unanswered questions some of you people may have.

I dont seem to get any errors when accessing the arcade part of the board, or even the Admin part of it. The only problem i'm having is actually playing the game. All that appears is a box for EVERY game. I'm sure it isn't my Flash version because i've updated to the latest one. So...what happened here?

Hooray, my thread is back!

I will have some more info later tonight. I don't know if I will get everything packaged up, but it is basically ready. I have the new version running well under 2.2.9 with only a few more small issues.

The main thing I needed to add was the MD5 security, which is now complete. I have some documentation I wrote which I will post shortly that will explain how it works.

I am on the verge of having a release ready, but decided I needed to go back and change a couple things, as I detailed here: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?postid=336529#post336529

Because there will be no upgrade script for Beta 1 -> Beta 2, I want to try and pre-add support for some of the future feature ideas I have before Beta 2 is out, so that it will be easy to upgrade from Beta 2 to future versions without losing the score database.

The Flash Games Development thread has been created, and all existing Flash source files have been released, here: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?s=&threadid=47198

Note that those games are all modified for Beta 2, but should work fine with Beta 1. Nothing has changed, though, so unless you are planning to modify the games yourselves, there is no need to change to these versions.

Oh yea, note that the pre-docs for Beta 2 are also in the second post in that thread, including instructions on how to modify the games. They are worth reading.

Rather then reading 53 pages and finding out it maybe isn't mentioned yet .. sigh

In the installation file it says:

+-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
| In showthread.php, replace this code: |
+-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
if (!$getperms['cangetattachment']) {
$viewattachedimages=0;
}
+-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+

+-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
| With this code: |
+-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
(removed ,.., snap)
+-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+

But that instance appears twice in the showthreads.php file

and below that it asks to replace $postbits code, but it doesn't appear in the file, only
$postbits = getpostbit($post); -- so I guess you meant that one? vb229

I have installed it all and set everything up
http://creations.nl/forum/proarcade.php

1 issue: I have safe-mode on and can't upload icons to the database - on page 22 you mentioned this is fixed, but it doesn't work here (bummer)
[code]Warning: Unable to create 'images/temp/icon-crown.gif': No such file or directory in /home/marietje/public_html/forum/admin/proarcadeadmin.php on line 69

I know that there are still lingering problems with safe mode, although if a server is configured properly, it should work, since I use the exact same method that vBulletin uses for attachments. If attachment uploading works, then I don't see why the arcade uploading wouldn't work.

As far as the other problem, that was an error in the installation instructions. The place that should be modified is the second occurance of that code in showthread.php.

As soon as I finish getting Beta 2 out the door, I will revisit the safe mode problem...

Another Beta 2 update:

I am not going to have the hack in a vbhacker format this time around, because I expect frequent changes/updates to the Beta as people test it. I know that makes it harder on people, but I don't have much of a choice, since setting up a larger hack for vbhacker distribution is rather unwieldy.

I am still working on a couple of things, namely the User Detail pages and a Scoreboard Reset feature. Everything else is already done.

Intex
01-02-2003, 08:40 AM
I'm getting the following error messages from some of the users when trying to play the games:

>>

You do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:
You do not have permission to access the page that you were trying to. Are you trying to edit someone else's post or trying to access administrative features? Check that you are allowed to perform this action in the Forum Rules.
If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation. "

<<

All the games run fine for me (local admin) but also with one of my test accounts, but all the other users get that message.

Any ideas ?

Intex
01-02-2003, 08:58 AM
I've now figured out that this problem occurs only for people in certain user groups.

My test user was in the 'Registered' user group and this was fine. I have also created my own groups in vBulletin, one of which is called 'Full Member', which most people are a part of. I changed somebody that was having the problem from 'Full Member' to 'Registered' and it worked perfectly, so it must be to do with the user group permissions. I'm just not sure where to change this.

Thank you for your reply :bunny:

I was wondering though - I set it to the first instance, since below that was the postbit stuff that needed changing, and everything now runs fine.

What might not work now, or works incorrectly because I put it at the first instance?

Do you maybe have an alternative way of letting me use those images?

Normal attachment uploading goes fine with vbulletin, just not this.

Near the top of proarcade.php, find this code:

case "gameover":
if (($bbuserinfo[usergroupid] != 2) and
($bbuserinfo[usergroupid] != 5) and
($bbuserinfo[usergroupid] != 6) and
($bbuserinfo[usergroupid] != 7)) {
show_nopermission();
}
break;

To add additional usergroups, just add a corresponding line for that usergroupid. For example, if you wanted to add the usergroup with id 20, your code would end up looking like:

case "gameover":
if (($bbuserinfo[usergroupid] != 2) and
($bbuserinfo[usergroupid] != 5) and
($bbuserinfo[usergroupid] != 6) and
($bbuserinfo[usergroupid] != 20) and
($bbuserinfo[usergroupid] != 7)) {
show_nopermission();
}
break;

To figure out which group belongs to which ID, when you move the mouse over a group name in the Admin CP, look in your browser's status bar for where it says "...&usergroupid=##" and the ## will be your ID.

The postbit stuff will just affect where (if anywhere) the champion text is displayed. The champion stuff really does not work correctly in the 1.03 version, and has been significantly changed for Beta 2. I am reluctant to tell people to mess with the postbit code for 1.03 since it has already been changed. My best advice is to sit tight.

For the images, once again a few things have changed and I hope that Beta 2 can fix those problems. If it doesn't, I will revisit the problem in my testing to see what I can do.

I always do changes manually, so i dont have problems if there is no vbHack-Version.

But i really hope to see Beta 2 coming up very soon, my users love this hack.

Thx. futureal. I've done that now and it works a treat.

The only thing thats not working is the user titles, i.e. when someone has been awarded the crown for 1st position it should show below their user titles, but at the moment it doesn't. Any ideas?

Idea for Improvement - maybe a screen where you can see the 1st, 2nd, 3rd places for each game on the same page?

Floris

The users indeedio love the hack, but netscape and mozilla users are complaining ;/ why can't it save the scores?

futureal
01-02-2003, 12:14 PM
TheSonic: It is coming very soon. Hopefully within the next few days. I am down to the very last few things I need to get done.

Intex: Beta 2 already has such a screen. The Top 5 scores for each game are displayed on the main arcade page (although this can be toggled off to save queries if that is an issue). The user titles (champions stuff) has also been fixed in Beta 2.

xiphoid: Netscape/Mozilla do not handle POST data correctly with Flash games. This is, as far as I know, a limitation of the browser and there is not much we can do to get around it. I am planning on exploring other options for it in the future, though. There has got to be a way.

Intex
01-02-2003, 12:17 PM
OK, yeah sorry - I was thinking more of 1,2,3 positions for each game. Don't worry its prob. not that good an idea anyway :).

I'm using 1.03 and have turned on all the champion items in the general options and for each game, but they still don't show. In the Admin CP for each game it does show in Red the champion and their score.

I finished the User Detail section of Beta 2 today. It provides some neat statistics about each user's activities in the arcade.

Check out the screen shot below to get an idea of what it looks like.

There is still all sorts of stuff I can add to this part in the future, such as ranking all users against each other as far as who is the best out of all games, most consistent, longest duration, and so on. But in the interest of getting this version out the door, I decided to freeze the features at what I have now.

I honestly don't have time to work on porting over any more flash games, which is why I released the sources to the current ones. Please see this thread: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?s=&threadid=47198

If you post the file there, I'm sure somebody could work on modifying it. I was not too jazzed about the Frogger from Flashkit because, well, I thought it wasn't too good. Really sluggish controls. But that's just me, I guess. I think I'm used to Neave's awesome games, which are just too good!

What's the update on the release of beta 2?

futureal
01-04-2003, 09:46 AM
Do you guys even read the updates I make?

I'm not trying to sound harsh, but seeing 3 or 4 posts (and PMs) each day asking when the thing is coming does not really help.

All I can say is this:

- the source for the games has been packaged and released, as has often been requested
- all of the planned features for this release are finished
- the packaging has begun

One it is packaged and documented, it will be test-installed on a few forums run by friends of mine, and once that process is completed in a smooth fashion, it will be publicly released.

This is a known limitation. If a user does not have "automatically stay logged in" checked in their User Options, if they play a game longer than whatever cookietimeout is set too, the site will not let them record their score.

I think that, with some thorough testing and hacking around, I could get it to where it saved the data and then took them to a log-in screen, and then from there back to the Game Over screen, but I have not attempted that yet.

With Tetris, that is certainly correct. Once you get to the last "level" it gives you 1000 lines to clear, and if you finish that the game actually crashes.

In Breakout, if you get far enough, the ball moves so fast that it goes right through the paddle (the collision detection fails).

There may be other bugs in the games as well. I am not the most competent Flash programmer, nor did I write the games, so I'm not sure what to say. I am hoping that sooner or later people will jump into the Flash Development thread that I posted and do some real work on the games, to add levels, new options, and so on.

Here is another teaser update for Beta 2. This is a screen shot of the "Score Editor" which really doesn't do much other than allow an Admin to reset the scoreboard. This was a requested feature.

Eventually, this Score Editor will be extended to handle individual editing, searching, and so on.

Be sure to check them out.

Here is another quick screenshot from Beta 2, this one of how the King Icon looks in the postbit. It is a parsed variable that the admin can place anywhere in the postbit, so that adds some flexibility.

Another update:

Beta 2 was released to private testing early this morning (1/5), and the Arcade was re-opened on my home site with no problems so far. Looks like everything is moving along nicely.

The install file is mostly complete and the docs are mostly complete, though I expect they will be rewritten a bit as people run into problems.

Anyway, it's just around the corner now. I'm just waiting for my testers to report back to me.

I already plan to port a bunch of Flash games over and possibly even make my own changes to some of the existing games that we've seen in the Arcade. (I really want to add more music choices to Tetris, and maybe more levels if I can figure it out).

Anxiously waiting! ;)

This is a sweet hack. Just installed on the latest version of VB with minimum fuss and no problems at all. Excellent documentation with crystal clear instructions. 10/10.

Only thing. Where is the code that builds the navigation header?:
BoardName ? Arcade

On my board it's left aligned by default but it's centered in the arcade. Just a tiny little thing I'd like to fix.

But what a brilliant hack. I love it! :)

Interesting. That might have been a template goof up on my end.

However, vbProArcade uses the exact same $navbar generator that vBulletin uses (which is why it looks the same as whatever your default navigation system is).

I will look into it and hopefully get back to you. One possible fix is to just slap a SPAN or DIV tag around the "$navbar" in the template, and then set it to align left.

Great job bro.. did the upgrade and thing went smoothly.

Only thing that didn't work for me is that it does not show who is the champion or kings next to the users name in post.

I know I overlooked something, granted I'm not to savy in installing hacks, but dangerous.

I have a feeling I need to add $vpachampicon and/or $vpachamptext in the posbit template (as clearly stated in the instructions), but which template do i modify in Posbits specifically.

Are you hitting that back button each time you try to play a new game? If you reached the page via your browser's "Back" button, you have to refresh the page before playing the game, otherwise your score will result in a security violation.

It looks like you did not correctly remove the tables from the older version of the game.

You MUST completely uninstall Beta 1 before installing Beta 2, and I can't stress that enough. Although the outside of the hack does not look too much different, the inner workings have completely changed.

If not, give me a URL that I can look at to see if I can determine what the problem might be.

Mv VB is located in <domain>/vbulletin

Nope, I misunderstood what his fix was intended for. I'm not having that problem. Its actually working fine for me, but one of my users says that he gets a 404 error when it tries to submit the score. Could be browser related or something.

{Edit} Nevermind.. He figured out what the problem was.. Nothing to do with this hack. He said something about a micromedia flash popup and he was clicking no when he should have been clicking yes. I have no idea what he's taking about because I don't get any popup. *shrugs*

Yes, i de-installed the complete Beta 1, including templates, hacks and SQL-Tables.

For the most useres, it works, just 2 Users become that 404 after playing (because it redirects to the wrong URL), so i dont think i hacked somethring wrong (because for the most useres it works - but they had no problem with BEta 1)... Hmm... crazy...

Perhaps there is a problem with the firewall or the IE-Settings of them, i will check that...

I tried playing in the arcade at my site (The Kryptonian), as well as the arcade at futureal's site (Shadows of Namek) with Opera 6.05, IE 6, Mozilla 1.2b and Netscape 7 and came to the conclusion that the redirect only works for Internet Explorer. It appears to show people in the arcade who aren't really there, I've verified this over the phone with friends. They can be in another part of the forum and it will still show them as 'Playing in the CandidForums Arcade'.

I've double and triple checked to make sure I properly added the code to online.php and it looks fine.

I've figured out the cause... It's the $vbchamptext and $vbchampicon if you use it in the postbit templates. Any time a browser reads a thread with a champion in it, online.php sees them as 'Playing in the Arcade' because they are being served the champtext or champicon from proimage.php.

I'll just pull the variables from my postbit templates for now, but it would be cool if there was a way of fixing this. :)

One question.. until the score group section is fully working, what's the easiest way to reset the high scores?

Upgraded, lost 2000+ scores, and now I'm holding a little contest to encourage people to play. Like 50% of the people in my who's online are viewing the arcade. Seems to work. 1.8M Tetris score already.

Thanks for this nice hack. :)

I'm just wondering, does it sound like this user cheated:

"Tetris Statistics
Times Played: 1
Time Spent Playing: 92 Minutes, 2 Seconds
Average Game Duration: 0 Minutes, 5 Seconds
Most Recent Game: January 13th, 2003 at 4:49 pm
Highest Score: 1,820,828
Lowest Score: 1,820,828
Average Score: 1,820,828
Unique Comments: 1
Random Comment: That took me all afternoon (at work! hehe)"

If he has played only once, how can the average game duration be 5 seconds? Also, the total time spent playing is 92 minutes.

*confused*

unfortunatly not my friend, im a flash designer....what u have right there, is useless to you in trying to design your own game, every game is unique and therefore the actionscript is unique also.......the only part that is of relevance is:

vpaver = "100B";
snakescore = score;
action = "gameover";
game = gamename;
score_loc = location + "/proarcade.php";
getURL(score_loc, "_self", "POST");

cuz thats what goes into our DB.......i would be able to configure most of these games if i could figure out that dang "score" bit......

Maybe not... For some reason the Average Game Duration part isn't working for Tetris on my site either. :ermm:
They did make that score pretty quickly though. It took me 140 minutes to score 1.5 million (and I messed up w/ 60 lines left, so I could have gone longer).

Check the html in the "vbproarcade_arcade_userscore_notking" template.

It should look like this:

<normalfont>$userscore</normalfont>

Hi all,

I have returned to Madison after my west-coast swing (San Diego, LA, Vegas) and I can see that there are definitely some bug/issues to address with the hack.

I will begin working on isolating and fixing some of these over the weekend.

Note that, to my knowledge, the games only work in IE, because of the score redirect problem noted before. Netscape (and Opera, apparently) do not handle POST data correctly. The only solution is to pass the variables via GET, which opens up things to big time cheating.

I may have to go back to the drawing board on security. I was trying to think up a good way to add true encryption to the scores (e.g. PGP) but I am not sure I can pull it off with ActionScript. I will continue the search.

Have the games been modified to return score values and redirect to the correct page?

It occurs when you try to go to the user details page:

Go to your CP

Pull down 'Add Usergroup to Arcade'
Select the group you want to add
Scroll down until you see 'Submit Changes'
Click on it.

I'm curious, is it possible to make it so that the arcade will only store a score if it makes it into the top ten? I think if a forum gets to be rather large that it is sort of a waste to store every single score in a game. Let's say it could work like this: The first ten scores are recorded, and then all new scores are checked against them. If the new score is better than a top ten score, the number 10 score could be deleted and the new score could be placed in the appropriate ranking.

I don't know much about php, and was just wondering if such a thing is possible.

The $vpachampicon is the culprit b/c it makes the call to proimage.php. $vpachamptext does not.

So here's a simple fix. Upload all of the crown images to /forum/images. Then in your postbit template, remove "$vpachampicon", but leave "$vpachamptext" in there.

Then go to your admin control panel and click "modify games".. Under each game where it says "Champion Text for whatever game", you can use html to include the crown image next to the text. ie: Breakout Champ <img src="http://yoursite.com/forums/images/icon-crown-red.gif">. The images will show up in the threads, and your online.php will still show the correct locations.

I will be posting a maintenence release in the next few days that will fix that problem, and a couple of other small ones (such as one SQL error that keeps popping up in a few peoples' arcades).

There will also be a fix to the security which should make it a bit more bulletproof and maybe even fix some of those problems that people have been having.

Stay tuned.

First, it appears as though it is working on your site for some users. Which makes me wonder what browser you are experiencing these problems with. IE? Netscape? What version?

Another thing to check is the locations of your game files and your forums in the Admin CP (vPA Options and General Options, respectively) although if it works for some people, it means these settings are probably fine.

Yea, I am aware of a number of bugs in the games, particularly in Breakout and Tetris. Unfortunately I am not a great Flash developer; I mainly just do the PHP and then we stick to whatever we can find for Flash games.

I am hoping that sooner or later someone will really get into the workings of these games to fix some of the problems.

Nevermind. The problem is with the call to proarcade.php when using the $vpachampicon in postbit. I changed it to use text as was suggested a few pages back.

The problem is that whenever there is a call to proarcade.php, it seems to think that that is where a person is. So... if I am viewing a thread where one of the champions has posted, that call to proarcade.php will confuse online.php into believing that I am playing in the arcade.

It will have absolutely no impact on the board. The scores take up an absolutely miniscule amount of space in the database.

There is no current way to limit the number of scores stored (I am still not sure why you would want to).

You can reset the scores in the Admin CP in Beta 2.

Known things that will be fixed in 2.01:

- security problems, hash security toggle
- showing people as playing in the arcade when viewing threads
- bad SQL query (trying to insert an Array)

Anything else of note? Those are the main ones I keep saying.

I also can't stress enough the fact that this hack will not work with non-IE browsers. To those that have emailed me, it's not my fault, and I'm sorry that things are the way they are, but Netscape, Mozilla and Opera simply don't handle POST data correctly (or well, to put it a different way).

You can reset the scores in the Admin CP in Beta 2. Great, as long as it doesn't take up much space there's no need to delete them... so thanks for that.

BUT.. The reset scores option in Beta 2, does not seem to work on my board :(

Is it just me, or have I missed something obvious?

Tigga

I really don't see why so many people seem concerned about the number of scores kept in the database. I've had this installed since around the 2nd day it was released. I currently have 1,300 scores that are recorded and it takes up 133kb of space. My entire database takes up 260mb, so that would be around 0.0005% of the space.

As long as your asking for suggestions futureal, here's a couple of things I noticed... The places it checks the time & date of scores uses the date function instead of the vbdate function, so it doesn't show the correct time if it's been changed in the Admin CP.
None of the templates the arcade uses are called at the beginning of the script, so of course that adds unnecessary extra queries for each template.
I also noticed that you didn't use the free_result function after you were done with the queries, which of course isn't good for high traffic sites. Not that I think it's really affecting things too much, but it still wouldn't hurt.
As far as I remember those were the only suggestions I had for the script. Looking forward to the update and thank you for your hard work on an excellent script. :)

You did not run the relevant queries. It's saying that you haven't got a width and height column in the table :)

I wanna install this updated version, as the first version was really cool!
The only problem is that i have to uninstall the old one... and for that, I will need the install instructions from the old Arcade. Unfortuneatly, I don't have these :( Where can i get them?

Managed to integrate this into my custom store system - 10 points to play a game, champions get 1,000 points. :)

First of all this is awesome and it installed perfactly! So thanks for taking the time to build it. A couple questions.

Do u have any more games out for it?

Also some of the people are saying it is not saving there high scores.

have you heard that yet?

Wow, what a great hack! I just installed it last night and my members love it!
Can you find flash games and add them where they will integrate like everything else?

have you heard that yet? More games are being made here: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?s=&threadid=47198

Also the problem with not saving scores is well known. IE is the only supported browser and there have been issues with it as well. futureal has been working on a fix for it though.

Please read the first few posts in that thread to see what needs to be done to games to make them work with this great hack. :)

this hack = orgasmic. Awesome work, and it runs perfectly on my server (http://gamingevo.net/proarcade.php), not one problem with any install, even of the other games.

It doesn't do that for me :/... does it do that for all of your games? Because if that's the case, then you forgot a template, probably.

First of all ... this is one of the coolest hacks out there!! ;)
Ok, one question: is it possible to show only the latest score from a user, and not all scores he/she made? I mean something the overrides his/her scores with the newest? That should save db-space and makes the scoreboard clearly aranged!! ;)
