I'm having a problem with this hack.

I've installed it all, and everything works bar the game on the template.
The page loads, but the .swf file embedded just stays a black square.

While looking in the HTML, I found this code:

Should these not be:

I don't know how to change that in the template, since it's all included in the $gamecode parameter.

I fixed it. In admin cp go to General Options in the arcade section anf change the games directory. I changed mine from /games/ to games/ and they all load up now

You need to do that to create the tables.

My control panel reset isn't working either, reset manually in phpmyadmin:

DELETE FROM arcadescores WHERE game='hexxagonFinal';

DELETE FROM arcadescores WHERE game='breakout';

DELETE FROM arcadescores WHERE game='game-name-here';

You can just delete as you have stated and the game scores will be gone and everything will still work ok?

Yeah I did that in the end, and all my scores started again from zero. Also I cleared the high scores in the admin control panel arcade bit just to make sure the crowns went to the right person.

Worked fine.

I didn't manage to browse through 68 pages of responses, but I figured I'd post up my experience. Had no problems with installation. Only minor tweaks:

1) the .php and .swf files in the zip were all had permissions of 600, which meant the webserver couldn't deliver them. Once I chmod'ed 'em, they all worked.

2) The path to the swf files took a bit of working out. Maybe the admin description should indicate what the path is relative to. Also, starting a path with / typically means its coming off the root directory, which these clearly are not.

Very minor issues, but all else seems to be working well. Thanks for the great hack.

this is a pretty cool hack.
but i found it a pain in the ass, to copy / paste 23 templates.

so i converted them all to files. and now you can add them with a few clicks (you need firefly's template backup system)

and after playing a game on a mac, it get's redirected to a wrong url.

instead of: www.url.com/forums/proarcade.php
it goes to: www.url.com/proarcade.php

it works fine on windows. how to solves this problem on a mac ?

oh i fixed the problem. in the admin area the path to my games that was already there /games/ was wrong. it should have been games/ no / before it.

Hi it seems that the hack with a mac goes to the main directory and it works differently in for PC users.

Since it looks for yourdomain.com/proarcade.php instaed of forums/proarcade.php

I added this PHP Redirect and put it in the / that gets the 404 - Now my mac users go back into the aracde and can play. The scores are high so I dont know if they actually get the high score screen. Since can't beat my users scores :(

I dont think that would work since even a low score can comment is there an action or little more some one could suggest to add to make the scoreboard / comments come up

anyway - put this where you need to put it and save it as proarcade.php

This simple redirect works :)

For some reason i cannot get the champion text to display in the postbit. I had it working before but then i upgraded my vbulletin to 2.2.3 and did a fresh install of the hack. Ive gone over the install again and checked to make sure i didnt do anything silly and made sure that $vpachamptext is in the postbit, but for some reason it's still not working :(

Hmm, do you have $gamedescription in your vbproarcade_arcadebit template? Do you have $gametext in your vbproarcade_arcade_gamedesc_icon and vbproarcade_arcade_gamedesc_noicon templates? Those are the templates that deal with that. Also, check in the vBProArcade section in the admin cp, under 'Modify Games' as that is where you state what you want the description for each gameto be. Still, by default the descriptions should show.

As for problems my time looks buggered. Say I play a game then immediately look at my most recent game stats it shows up as 7 hours before.

I'm having trouble getting the games to load. The actual page links are pointing in the right direction, but the SWF files aren't showing up. The settings appear to be correct for everything, and going directly to the movie lets the game run fine, but it's not loading from the page.

Has anyone else had this problem? Is there something obvious I'm not seeing here?

I've tried everything, deleted the tables, reinstall and looked trough the files but what happens is the part in general options for the champions "Use Champions system" is NO and stays NO after set it to YES and click on 'submit changes'. I've chmod the arcade php files 777, 775, 666 etc. but no way. What can i do next?

i had this same probem, make sure every word and letters are the same, they apear to be case sensative..

if you swf file of roulette is spelt like this "Roulette" then when setting it up in your admin panel, it should be the same. check all your set up options and make sure there isnt any capatals missing..

(With a few "visual" errors, it seems to use the same color for everything on the default vB2.3.0 style) But my scores won't save. I scanned this thread quickly, and apparently only one other person had this problem, but he fixed it by reformatting. I'm not prepared to do that.

Anyone with information on why this doesn't work? I ran every query, and installed every template using the Template Backup System. (The TBS is faster for multi-style installations)

Talking of that, Tetris worked fine on my board until yesterday when suddenly it wouldn't load until I changed the name of it. It just stopped accepting the name 'Tetris'.

That blank box problem of yours. I had it when I installed. I'd uploaded the files. It didn't work. I went to check if the arcade was active, etc (which it was)... then for some reason I just went back to the arcades and they've worked fine since (except the matter about Tetris).

Never mind... Figured it out.

You cannot save scores if you play from the machine that the server is running off of. I went and played Sanke on the other computer in my house, and the scores worked fine.

You could make it so not EVERY score is saved. I have every score achieved EVER even if they score 1. It just takes up space.

Does anyone know if it would be possible to award points (Lesane Store Hack v2.0) to users for scores achieved in a game? My visitors are interested in getting paid to play, which isn't at all a bad idea. I'm sure it would take alot of coding but if it's too much then I'll pass on the idea.

Well, you could try to reverse the Arcade Pass hack... :rolleyes:

But honestly, I think it's stupid to award cash for high scores... Maybe it could be like a lottery... The top 3 players from each game at the end of the week would get their names into a draw, and whatever name is randomly picked wins a cash prize! :D

instead of a site paying out cash, why not make it like a real arcade and have people pay the site somehow to play :classic: ( each time they can deposit like $10, to play a game would be a quarter..and it would go towards a credit each time even when they get high score....ya know like a real arcade game would do) it could work out so that the money to play the games would go to bandwidth and maintenance of the site...

Ok, I read this all the way to page 36 before I realized there were 72 pages. So keep that in mind when you read this. I didn't make it through ALL the history.

Here's what I'm getting:

If I use IE, scores post just fine, and it sends the user to the proper URL after the game finishes:

However, when I use mozilla (latest version and latest flash), it forwards instead to:

which doesn't exist. Is this back to browser compatibility? Is this what the 'Known Bugs' is referring to?

Anyways, wonderful hack. I just use IE when I'm playing the games, and all is well.

Well, 2 bugs that I know of now. Playing games off of a localhost server won't let you save your scores Links are not Mozilla-compatable (They do not include a domain, so the root of the current domain is assumed, which is wrong. $bburl should be transfixed before all links to resolve this issue)
Hopefully they are resolved soon! :D

nm, i got it. it seems i didnt edit the admin/index.php. i know i did but i guess it didn't save or something. it works fine now. you need to put your graphics in your games folder, and your game folder in your root directory. and chmod all the php files you added.

I just moved to a new server and now when I try to upload the champ icon and or thumb to add a new game it won't upload.

It acts like it does then it don't show up ...

I see. well we wanted to do it the coding way so we could be lazy, lol. The lottery idea was a fallback plan and I guess we'll do it that way.

yeah, some of my users are getting this as well.

also, i have a major problem. for some reason, my cookies aren't being saved anymore. i am not the only one having this problem and i've tested it on 3 different machines. all the same problem. it happened after i installed this hack. please help!!

This has to do with how mozilla does not handle POST data correctly from Flash's ActionScript.

What is happening is that the forum gives control to the Flash game, the user plays, and then the Flash game returns control to the forum. This means that the Flash game has to know where to redirect to in order to keep the script going.

I haven't been able to get Flash to communicate the URL correctly with Mozilla-based browsers. If anybody knows a solution to this, I am happy to hear it.

Just how do I edit these .fla files to make them edited .swf files? I tried pasting your code into a .fla file and renaming it gamename.swf and that just gets me a blank screen. I assume all those bleep files and stuff need incorporating. Could we have a concise account of what to do with these .fla files? where to put the code and what to do with the files afterwards? The hacks says nothing about having to publish .fla files in Flash.

Firstly, thank you for a fantastic hack here.

This is probably one of the best hacks I have ever seen for vBulletin. My site is dedicated to retro games, chat and consoles. It is perfect for it.

I have a slight probably that I'd love to get resolved if you'd be good enough to help. I am on vBulletin 2.3.0 and all is installed and appears to be working fine. However, the formatting of the tables seems to be wrong, all in blue.

Can you confirm that this is how it should be, or perhaps suggest how to fix it?

Also, my timezone is different from that of the servers. Is there a way to adjust this?

Finally, I cannot upload new images or thumbnails. It just returns to the "Modify" screen after I click on Update for a certain game. I am trying to add Asteroids, but cannot add the crown or the thumbnail.

Again thanks for a great hack, and if I can get this fully working with assistance then I'd really appricahte it.

Nah, it is definitely still beta. There are a number of issues that need to be resolved before I'll consider it worthy of a "Full Release" status. Most of the issues should have been resolved by now and I take full responsibility for releasing incomplete and buggy code and not fixing it in time.

I think we will see a "Full Release" yet, though. :)

If you just want to reinstall the games, you can just re-do the arcadegames table.

You would execute:

DROP TABLE arcadegames;

And then re-run the query that creats the arcadegames table and inserts that data into it.

If all you have is the SWF, it will not work with the hack. You need to get access to the source itself (the .FLA file) so that you can add the necessary information to the game to interact with the arcade.

Check out the Flash Games Development thread in this same forum (Beta Hacks) for more information on how to convert a game to an arcade-compatible format.

This almost certainly sounds like its not pointing to the correct directory where your games are stored. Go to admincp and under the 'General Options' for the arcade just put it a path from the root of your server, i.e. /forum/games. You might just be missing something really simple - double check.

As a further check, when you load that page where the game doesn't work, just look at the source code [View | Source] in IE and then see what path is actually being used :).

Hi, thanks for the hack my Intranet users love it! :)

Anyway, after having (nearly) successfully installing the hack, I have encountered a slight but ugly problem. I have tried replacing the vast majority of templates with another copy of the original just to see if i messed up something btu that hasnt worked.

Please see the attached image, all the tables have used the same colour for everything and it looks very ugly... how on earth can i sort this out?

That's becuase futureal used the wrong replacement variable in his templates. He never saw anything wrong, since it looks right on his.

When I get home today, I'll attach my templates, that should fix the problem.

Actually, the colors were chosen by design and worked on a fresh vBulletin installation. Granted, I'm by no means a design professional, but I thought they looked OK. Now depending on how individual forums' color schemes are, it may or may not look good, but as you said, you can always change the values.

I plan on re-doing the templates completely for the hack one vBulletin 3 comes out (and yes, there will be a version for vB3 as soon as I can get my hands on the code).

futureal, how would you make the games get a variable first (like points), then play the game (and do something with the points, although how to do that is not really important) and eventually when the game is over submit the points as well as the score? I would like a gamble flash game in the arcade that makes use of the store points but I (and the person developing the gamble game) does not know how to get variables from the database.

Mine does the same thing in the userdetail screen, so I just added bgcolor="{firstaltcolor}" inside the appropriate <td> tag and it displays wonderfully now! :) You might try the same!

there should be a tab that says EMPTY(the link is red)

Nah, you can get that kinda score. Look at my board in the sig...

The way it works is at that level, you can bet between 250-1000 points every drop of the brick. It is actually easier to go for clearing single lines and droping the bricks down.

One of my users has 1.8 million! Took 133 mins.

Put this in your main directory and change the settings of the redirect to your path. Mac users will continue to play but cannot comment or enter scores. I have found no way to fix that issue for mac users like me.

Remove the champ icon (crown) from your postbit and it will solve the problem.

Regarding Tetris scores, the highest I've seen are in the 1.6-1.9 million range. Given that they usually occur on my forums from the same people, and with similar durations, I tend to believe that they are real.

Some people just have too much time on their hands... :)

Why are people so concerned about the scores taking up too much space in the database? I currently have almost 4,000 scores recorded and it only takes up 366 KB of space. My entire database is 334 MB, so that means the scores are taking up about 0.001% of the entire database.

That's not hard to do. I have mine integrated with my own custom points system. If you like I can put a Store version up if no one has done so (I'm surprised no one has).

FIRST BACKUP your database:
This hack/addon in conjunction with the main install.txt file that comes with vb pro arcade beta 2.

This is a two part template hack, bug fix and way to speed up the install of vb arcade beta 2,

When I first installed this hack, there is a section where your personal score boards are black, and the links don't work linking back to your main arcade. This addon fixes that, shows you what I changes.

I also seperated all 23 templates in the install zip into 23 template txt files. Which I've included in the zip. In my install readme I've explained how you can install all 23 templates in just under 5 seconds :P

Is there still no cure for the problems Mac users have recording their scores?

I wanted to say that I have tons of people asking me this as well. More then half my board members use mac. My handful of windows users are happy, but want more competition and too can't wait until the mac users can record their scores.
cross platform and browser friendly is a hard thing to achieve for even macromedia and other top dollar programers. I wish I had the knowledge to help.

using the crown system, is there any way to create a dual crown system so the highest high score is permanently recorded for one score while another is the weekly high score?

I'll try to explain this again just so I won't be misunderstood. I want to create a dual crown system, one that is the highest score ever for each game while the other one is a weekly high score. This way every member has a chance to get a crown weekly while the highest score is also rewarded constantly instead of just being a weekly thing... any thoughts?

Just wondered if there was and update on all the compatibility problems. Users on a mac (even using IE) can't add scores, people using opera have reported problems, and of course it doesn't work with netscape... A very IE only hack (not that i'm complaining but all my users would love to take part!)

I am truly doing what I can to solve the interoperability problems, but it is more of a Flash/PHP/Browser issue than anything I can solve with coding.

I don't have a Mac available to me to test with, and I was previously unaware of Mac-related problems. I will keep trying, though. There are people developing stuff on FlashKit that have had limited success with stuff.

I am also probably going to toss the hash security in stuff in favor of something else. It is still easily broken and is probably more pain than it's worth. One easy solution is just to give a security error if the HTTP_GET_VARS (I think that's the identifier) shows up as existing, since everything should be sent via POST. Still, though, that does not prevent somebody from editing values directly in memory.

Then go through this thread to see if any of your bugs have been addressed, if not post them, for futureal to review. This will help speed up the process.

Although I personally don't know what sleep is, I've heard it does wonders for helping get stable releases out ;)

Try using Internet Explorer (assuming you aren't doing). All cases I've heard with this problem are using Opera, or maybe Netscape, and frankly Netscape is SAID in the details for this hack to not be very compatible with ProArcade.

hmm, try doing this:

go into phpmyadmin run this query:

SELECT *
FROM `arcadeconfig` LIMIT 0 , 30

edit the row in the table. Find the "useraccess" row.
the value should say something like this
1 2 5 6 7

add all the usergroup ids that you want access to the arcade.

for example, if i want my "A group" to have access to the arcade and their usergroup id is 9,
i would do this:
1 2 5 6 7 9

In your Forum Admin go to the edit templates area. Under Custom templates there will be a bunch of templates that start with vbarcade or something to that effect. You have to find the proper templates that include the tables you want to change and change the bg colors.

Its and issue with your style table background image, it's loading a background image in the table fields of your main forum's style.

You need to find where table background is loading in your forum style and either delete just the background image, aka background="image.gif" it or change the vb arcade code to use a background other than the table background ;) did that make sence?

GaleForce: Sadly, not really.

The templates you could probably just replace with never versions, rather than removing the old ones.

The SQL tables should be removed and then re-installed.

The actual code changes will mostly be in the same places, but not necessarily. That's why I've recommended uninstalling the original Beta 1 before installing Beta 2.

- Fixed Game Ordering in User Detail Screen
- Fixed $bburl in User Detail Screen
- Fixed Mini-Scoreboard Display to show "Nobody" when a game is new
- Added Additional $_GET security (check for GET variables)
- Optimized Mini-Scoreboard Display, now 1 query per game
- Added Additional Statistics to Arcade Page (total users, games, time)

Before I release this sucker, can anybody think of anything else (major) that needs to be addressed?

I don't plan on adding any new features to the Arcade until there is a close-to-100% stable version that I can actually call a true release. I am more focused on fixing bugs and compatibility problems right now.

I don't know if this is the case with the proarcade but i read a page with the warning of a vulnarabilty in highscores (in general), where people can alter the score if they know the way it is set to the database, for example www.test.com/forum/proarcade.php?name=You&score=**** or something like that. I did'nt test this though and i hope this is a problem already solved or irrelevant. ;)

You can't, because the page send the flash thing a hash, and then the flash page does something and sends the hash back...

That is why there is a hash code in the settings... it's what prevents people from cheating so easily...

There will be upgrade instructions for all future releases. Beta 2 to 2.1, 2.1 to release (or whatever). There were no instructions for going from Beta 1.x to Beta 2 because I changed just about everything... there really was no possible upgrade path.

I decided to do some cosmetic work on the admin side of things, which is something I've been meaning to do for awhile. I want to eliminate the step of adding code to adminfunctions.php, so I will just do my own HTML formatting for the admin section.

Since it will be less dependant on vB's predefined functions, this will also make it much easier to "drop" the hack into vB3 when it is released.

I think this would be a nice feature; the hack automatically putting in the HTML code for the flash file, but allowing you to define the width and the height when adding/editing a game (in a text box). Also, if someone wanted to edit the HTML embed code, you could always offer an [Edit HTML Code] button somewhere. That would be pretty cool, if you can do it :)

futureal - A nice addition I added to my forums that you might be interested in including with the next version would be allowing the users to select different sizes for the games. I altered mine a little so it has a default size, then the users can pick a size 0.75, 1.25, 1.50, or 2 times as large. It's not very hard to do and IMO it's a great feature. :)

kewl idea :) Tigga I used to be pro rave club dj, retired from the scene, just checked out your site, front image brings back memories :P back to the arcade ... I'll prob wait for 2.1 to come up before I update my first site to it again. I've got it setup on my second site or beta 2, and everything seems to be running good.
