I didn't want to step on any toes, as it's more a fix for current version and devided up all the templates. If if no one has any problems with that I can release it. Not sure if it qualies as a full hack though, more follow the first part of the arcade hack, add my section then follow the rest of it ;)

someone said that there is a new template in this lot of posts where you dont need to have all the scores undernath the games.

All i want is the list of games and not a full page of scores from the games as they can see these when they click on the icon next to the games

We have no clue. :) I hope he's just not only going to work on it when vB 3.0 comes out.. Alot of people aren't moving to that for 6 or 12 months still. I've offered financial incentive to keep this afloat with a new updated version for the 2.x series but I haven't heard a word...

i am having the same problem on the vB3 version i have done the game does not show but i am thinking the flash cab#6.x.x.x needs updating to 7.0.0.0 not sure you try it and let me know

MadCat thats the answer then as it was doing the same to me, I found out that you need to set the language in IE go to Tools Internet Options Languages and set it too English US and that should fix the update thing then that might even fix it for it too work for you :)

Been awhile. I'm sure many are ticked that I have been away from this thread. Life has taken a number of twists for me that have kept me out of here, but I am starting to get some time back.

Anyway, worthwhile points to note:

#1] vbProArcade is installed and working under vBulletin v3.0 Beta 6 on my test site. I will not, under any circumstances, be distributing this until v3.0 is officially released, as per the Beta license agreement. Since the hack is mostly self-contained, updating it to work with vBulletin 3 was really not all that difficult.

#2] There will still be one final release for v2.x and it should be soon.

In the final version of the 2x version of the arcade, is it possible to add,

Hall of Fame, Hack or wish list hack, I'd do it my self but I don't know php well enough yet...

How it would work:
At the end of the month have a feature to wipe the current database scores in the arcade, and move the top 5 players for each game to a hall of fame page.

So on the hall of fame you would have

Hall of Fame
March, 2003, top 5 players per game
April, 2003, top 5 players per game
May 2003, top 5 players per game

this would help keep the size of the arcade down..

Thanks for the feedback. The wiping function was fixed in the versions I am running. Hall of Fame is a good idea, I will see about adding that for sure.

Part of the problem I had with designing/debugging the hack was that I did it all in a production environment, which was certainly not the smartest thing. That's where some of the bugs (especially the template ones) came from.

I'll have more info soon.

Just a suggestion for themes...the themes colours that are good for vbulletin and vbportal sometimes make the templates for ProArcade look really bad, ie. no contrast between the text and background....can ProArcade have its own independent color table that is editable from Admin CP??

Will it be hard for me to upgrade to future versions of ProArcade once I've installed Beta2?

It should be pretty easy to go from Beta 2 to future versions -- at least vB 2.x versions -- but don't quote me on that. There should really only ever be one more 2.x version.

The templates are going to be re-done to use the correct colors very shortly. They were a total hack job when I did them the first time, and then I spent the remainder of my development time on the features, and not on the templates so much.

Another Idea other than the hall of fame I had, would be for someone to add, Store System addon for the arcade once the next version is out.

I think link made something at one point but I think that addon is dead.

What I'd like to see in addon..
Store addon,
- Jackpot System, based on 1st 2nd 3rd 4th and 5th place. if members don't beat the score points pool to jackpot would build up for each game, if members get one of the top 5 scores, based on a points setting in admin cp, the player would get a portion of the jackpot at that given time, if they gest 1st place they would get the full jackpot of points. have the points link with your bank/store hack.

anyway thats my idea and I'm sticking to it, anyone want to make it or future you up for it as added feature?

Another thought would be arcade pass system, where members have to pay so many points to play the arcade games, and or buy a store arcade ticket... To play and compete with the jackpot system.

by having the hall of fame system which I listed a few posts back, each month your database would be kept small, this only issues is to make sure people don't loose points in the jackpot system when the database is wiped and top 5 of each score is put into a hall of fame...

I'm not an expert yet at php, but I think this would make a killer system for the arcade. I can help with template design and setup as well if needed ..

what ya guys think of the ideas?

The hall of fame would be a good addition and pixelfx idea to let it work with the store/bank hack to.

There are games as slots, poker and blackjack and i wonder if these games could work together with the bank/store in a way that they not only make the score but in the same time the points in the bank, extract by losing or add by submit.

I don't plan on writing a store-based part of the hack since I don't have a need for anything like that on my forums, and I would rather concentrate on the other aspects of the hack itself (e.g. Hall of Fame). That would be a natural add-in, though I would suggest waiting for the new versions -- especially the vB3 version -- before working on it.

PixelFx, I will let you know about the templates. I have made a number of physical changes to them for Beta 2.1, so you'd have to look at those first. If you'd like to test the install of Beta 2.1, get in touch with me and I will send it to you when it's ready. I am sure the upgrade process will need to be tweaked and alll that before it hits general release.

Ok dont know if this is any use to anyone but i couldnt get my games to load and it pi**ed me off :p so i tried movin them. I placed all of the games in my root folder and then changed the link in the proarcade options from /games/ too /forum/ Blah any way the games work perfect now so hope it helps anyone else (knowin me this has probably been posted by someone already)

I have tested it with Windows 2000, latest Apache and latest MySQL version. UPLOAD worked FINE !!! :nervous:

I have tested it with SuSe 8.2 and Redhat 8.0 and latest Apache and latest MySQL version. UPLOAD FAILED !!! No error MSG.

On all three machines same settings for PHP and MySQL. But it worked on Windows and it did NOT work on any linux. :cry:

So i went through all variables and through the source code and made some changes. Now it works on all three OS. :banana:

Anyone interested in these changes ? Does some people still have this upload problem ? I would share my changes. :cool:

Pseudomizer: Are you sure it is operating system specific? I have never had any problems with it on any of the systems I've installed it on, which have been all different flavors of linux (my own servers all run RedHat distros).

All of the problems I've encountered with others have been when PHP safe mode is enabled.

Pseudomizer: Are you sure it is operating system specific? I have never had any problems with it on any of the systems I've installed it on, which have been all different flavors of linux (my own servers all run RedHat distros).

All of the problems I've encountered with others have been when PHP safe mode is enabled.

i wouldn't have spent time on this, if this would not be the case. I searched multiple times through this thread and 4 or 5 guys had the same problem and no one could find the problem.

So a friend of mine and myself spent 2 days on this with trying to find the error and comparing settings like PHP and MySQL. There was nothing special but in safe or in non-safe mode everything worked fine EXCEPT the upload of the thumbnails into the database.

So most of the people used the workaround to insert queries direct into the database. But this was only a workaround and so we sat down and tried to fix this.

If you look on the comment of Magic Sparc, my solution worked for him and i would guess, that he did not change any other settings expect to mine, i just gave him.

So this prooves my assumption that there could be some problems between different flavours of unix and windows.

That was the reason why i asked if someone is interested in my investigations because i did this for my server because i wanted to use this functionality if you had this built-in. Feel free to comment or apply changes to this but it works for me now.

Not that I'm aware of. I tried to get it to go with any Mozilla-based browsers but no luck so far. I could only get Flash to send the data via GET, which made it far to easy for people to just plug values into their browser's URL bar as scores.

It's still not completely secure using HTTP POST, but it's a lot better. I will keep trying other stuff...

i run a mac forum so most users use mozilla or khtml based browsers. this might sound stupid but you could try asking some mozilla guys (pinkerton) or khtml guys (dave hyatt) to include GET commands. both seem pretty receptive to that kind of stuff.

This is the game modification screen in the vbProArcade Admin Panel. The admin can select a game icon and a king icon, as well as change the security features of the game (score var and hash offset) and a few other things.

This screen has been simplified since Beta 1.

Your game directory is not set correctly. Check in this thread for directory discussion about "/games/" and "games/" and "/games". This will explain everything.

i am very sorry, but if i read "Database error 2.2.8" and you say that you are running 2.3.1, i would say that your upgrade failed to 2.3.1.

But the way: Your error in the query is the userid. There should be a number and not an array.

Hmm. The source code should be fine. I only could suggest that you try the following:

Replace:
SELECT * FROM arcadescores WHERE userid=$user AND valid=1 ORDER BY endtime DESC

With:
SELECT * FROM arcadescores WHERE userid=$userid AND valid=1 ORDER BY endtime DESC

in the proarcade.php file.

No guarantees. Give it a try.

And i would highly recommend that you check your vbulletin installation. It seems that you are running 2.2.8 and not 2.3.1 as you think. This could also cause many problems.

Pseudomizer: Thanks again for figuring out the upload bug in the Admin CP. I worked with it a bit and discovered what the exact problem was.

In some versions of Apache/PHP, variable names are automatically created from forms. So for example, the input file "championicon" would turn into "$championicon_name" and "$championicon_data" automatically when it's passed through the headers into the next page.

So for some combinations of OS/Apache/PHP, this wouldn't happen, and the variables would not get inserted correctly into the database. The key then is to use the $HTTP_POST_FILES array for everything, rather than relying on PHP to do the dirty work.

The vpaupload() function already does this for the data portion, but the name was being mishandled. So the code now looks like this:

Smile. That is the next thing i wanted to implement. Right now i reset the scores manually and every time i reset them, the script looks for the actual month ( with some intelligence check behind ) and writes the Hall of Fames file. The next thing will be to insert into the cron job the start of the proarcadeadmin.php with the parameters to reset the scores and everything will happen then automatically. So we are both on the same way of solving this problem.

On unix a cronjob and on windows an AT job ( you can use Auto2000 to have a nice GUI on windows for that ).

If you need someone to test your solution just tell me.

The most likely problem is that the Games Directory is not set up right in the admin panel.

That fixed it... but my second problem is once I finish playing a game... it takes me to

"/proarcade.php" insead of "/UBC/proarcade.php" where would I tell it to take me to /UBC/proarcade.php I don't see it in the options

Also, where are the images for this hack located? I uploaded an icon and cannot find it at all via ftp yet it displays just fine. Also, I never uploaded ANY images at all for the other games and they all display. I do not have any of the thumb-XX.gif or the icon-XX.gif diles on my server that I can find, yet they are there.

bitg: The images are stored in the database. When you upload a file via the Admin CP, it gets stored in a database table (just like an avatar or attachment, for example).

To fix the white boxes, you need to replace the template. Look for PixelFX's thread in this same forum entitled something like "vbProArcade Install Addon and Fixes" which has the corrected template.

An even more correct set of templates will be available in the next Beta (I apologize for such bad ones in the original, I just ripped them straight out of one of my forums so the colors/etc. are screwy).

Yea, that would do it. The arcade uses the $bburl string to get all file locations and redirects, so if it is not set correctly in the Admin CP, it won't work.

I'm currently testing vbProArcade Beta 2.1 for futureal, so we can get this out to you guys faster.

I've found a few buts, but can tell you the SQL intall system is a breeze on vb2.3.2 no errors yet that I can tell.

I've created some new replacements for the hack to make the templates a bit easier to match to peoples sites, which I'll send futureal soon.

So far I have to say the hack is almost full release level from the scripts I've tested so far. I'm not sure how much info he wants me to post so I'll keep it short for now. I think you guys will be really impressed with his work on the next version :)

Yes, queries are reduced considerably.

The miniscoreboards require 1 query per game right now. It could be reduced, but the amount of PHP computation and memory would actually put more of a load on the server than just leaving the queries in there.

I will be adding an option to display certain games, random games or only a certain amount of games on the mini scoreboard page to keep queries down. Probably in Beta 2.2.

Any idea why comments are not showing up? I play a game and when done, it shows my score and asks for a comment. I enter one and it gives no errors. However it shows "none" in the comment column.

However, I do see one problem right away: when a user clicks on one of the games from the top menu, you'll see that the $session[sessionhash] variable is not getting translated into the MD5 sessionhash (look in the browser's status bar). You probably need to add $session to the list of globals wherever you are calling that stuff from.

Not sure if that could be related, but it's certainly one thing to fix.

The swf files are in /games/ as should be and works when called directly. But they are not loading on the games page, called with proarcade.php.

This actually sounds more like a Flash/client-side or maybe browser issue. I am pretty sure the games themselves are solid.

Check with some of your users to see if they are having similar problems, or to see if it might be on your end.

Sounds like something is set up incorrectly or not being parsed well. The link you gave above does not work; if you provide a correct link with some sort of test account, I can check it out and give you some feedback.

I had that problem at one time. Changing the admin cp options making sure that was enabled didn't help. In the end I just edited the PHP so there was no disabled function and then it worked fine. Not THE correct solution but I was soon to upgrade to vB3 anyway.

I never understood what was wrong because it had been fine for ages up until then.

I don't think that being on a subdomain would influence this. It is a general setting which is available from any part of the forums. The reason behind this is to eliminate an additional query whenever we need to check to see if the Champion System is active or not. It's kind of a clunky system that works much, much better in vB3. I would still like to work out these bugs in the vB2 versions, though.

How do you have the Donating Members set up? As a separate usergroup? It should work like this but if other changes were made, they might be influencing it.

The source to Flash stuff is stored in the .FLA files, the .SWF files are compiled code (and graphics). This is necessary to protect peoples' work, just like a .EXE file for a computer program.

futureal said he intends to once vB3 is stable enough. I'm not sure if that means RC state or Gold state... and he does have the vB2 version to finish.

In any case it's estimated that Gold should be ready around Christmas. That word's not set in stone yet though. It would be safe to work with RC however and that is due for release come late November.

Naturally I'm itching to get the hack back myself.

It is fixed in Beta 2.1. Sorry for the delay in getting that out, I am waiting for some data back from PixelFx but he is getting married in 2 days, and thus quite busy. He should have it back for me shortly after that.

The only way i know of receiving that error is when you play a game via the back button. Example---

You play a game and die, and it tells you your score etc etc. Then instead of going back to the Arcade and re-selecting a game, You hit the back button to go back to the game.

You cant do this hence it not recording your score etc. Understand what i mean?

Yeah thats it basically :p After losing on a game and beeing told where they stand on the score board, there should be a link back to the Arcade, tell them to click this and then reselect their game :) And what do you mean Alta Vista? me dumb :)

Shouldnt there be a ; after the ) at the end?.

Check to make sure you selected the entire code when running the query. Depending on what your using to view the code such as notepad, it can miss out code sometimes.

If you uploaded the games to /forum/games/ rather than /games/ then in the Admin CP, remove the preceding slash from the games directory (so it reads games/ for example).

The next version may have Mozilla/Netscape and even Mac support, which has long been a huge (and bad) limitation for the arcade. I have been able to get everything to work, with one caveat: all existing games will NOT work, and will need to be re-modified. Additionally, users must have the latest version of the Flash plug in, which supports ActionScript v2.0.

If anybody has any thoughts or feedback on this, let me know.

Sorry for lack of updates, just got married, so you can imagine my off line life has been crazy...

I'm working on a template update for futureal, for version 2.1 which would of been out sooner, if I wasn't doing the above... life in respects to all that is now slowing down, so over the next day or some I'm working out some of the template fixes I have been doing for futureal then hope to have those files out to him so he can release 2.1.

How stable is it? well from testing I can tell you that the .sql install is a breeze ;) really cuts the install time down, and I haven't found any major bugs yet. Just some graphical stuff which I've been fixing to hopefully make the arcade scripts match your custom styles better. Or thats the goal..

futureal has really done a nice job up the over upgrade of Proarcade v2.1 :)

This is fixed in the next version. In the meantime you could add a simple check like this, near the beginning of proarcade.php (must be after the $gameinfo query for this to work):

You have have to add a field to the database somewhere and then add a query to the above code (between the brackets) to insert some information into that field. Or actually, to make it easier, you could just have the system send you an email when this happens. Take a look at this section of the PHP documentation:

You could include the date, time, user's name and query string in the email, so you'd get all the info.

I fixed my previous error :)
but, now after all is installed, for some reason the games aren't loading, just show the black screen on their place and looks take ages to load, yet they don't, any ideas how to fix this? :)

For anyone that is having problems with the champion text/images...I looked through a lot of posts and saw questions but no real answers to why they weren't appearing. I could not get mine to appear...I had "champion system" and image enabled for some of them but I guess at some point I deleted the champion image from my first game. Once I added that image all the images and champion text showed up. Whether it was a fluke or what I'm not sure but if you're having problems its worth a try to make sure that all the games, especially the first one, have the champion system enabled and an icon added.

Actually, I've found quite the contrary most femme gamers I've come across are pretty darn attractive they're just closet losers like me :p

Mad - Did you trying going into the db to try and manually change it? Not an easy way by any means, but I know there was at least one instance where I went into the db with phpMyAdmin because the admin cp just kept kicking out the original value everytime I tried to submit a new one. It's a beta so I figure whatever I can finagle around to make it work, is great, its the ghetto way about it but whatever... :p
