futureal,

One suggestion if he didn't mind to give you an admin account to look at templates so you can look for a problem or even ftp access to check out files.

You might beable to find out more ?

mewgood
09-05-2002, 04:35 AM
well
I am sure it works cuz I tried it....
do you have msn or ICq?
so I can give you the admin power?

futureal
09-05-2002, 05:01 AM
I will fire up ICQ for the first time in awhile and see what I can do. :)

futureal

If anybody else experiences safe mode problems, please let me know ASAP.

In mewgood's case, I believe it is a problem with the server configuration. When I try to upload a custom avatar via the Admin CP, it produces the same error. However, the custom avatar works in the main site... and I can't for the life of me figure out why.

I have posted on the vb.com Troubleshooting Forum about this issue, as it appears to tie into a bug in vB as well: http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=54251

Other Tetris-Hard Version:

I have made a new Tetris Version without a Pause and 16 Levels for the first Arcade Hack from John.
Now i like to include it in your Hack. Can you tell me what i must change in the codice part of the tetris.fla file or better, can you change it for all of us ? :D Alt?rnative, you can post your tetris.fla file here from your version and i can get your code :bandit:

All my tetris Member say about your new version:
1) It ist hard to get 100.000 points, but after it it is very easy to get 200.000 - 500.000 Points - please give us back your last hard version .. :D

Many Member from me like to disable the sounds in the games, is it possible to include a Button or post the games versions without sounds? You can better include a new midi System in the proaradeadmin panel to set alternative sounds directly in the webpage and not in the *.swf!

ATTENTION: The follow Attachment is not for this HACK!

hey futureal d00d that error i was getting when updating people profiles i think it has got to do with this hack beacause if you win a game and come first you get

Breakout Champion
Pacman Champion
Snake Champion

but on my site it is not showing because i have a user title then i have stars under it so it messes p where in the code can i get rid of this title

futureal
09-05-2002, 05:07 PM
There is no way that the error you were getting could be related to this hack. This hack does not do anything to the user table at all.

As for removing the titles, just disable the Champion System. The way the titles will be handled in the next version will be better (via a template, for customization).

Guys, the hack is in beta for a reason -- I am working on the code itself; modifying more games will have to come later. Please stop asking for new games until the hack is finished. Thanks.

In the meantime, I am still waiting to hear if the safe mode stuff is working or not. I know it didn't work for mewgood, but I am surmising it is a server issue on his end.

I uploaded the latest proarcadeadmin.php file...and in the admincp, it uploaded fine w/o errors...but graphics don't show up on the arcade page at all.

This is the info I get after I upload files (this one specifically is for the snake game).

your php version is: 4.0.6
safeupload is: 1
tmppath is: /home/httpd/vhosts/ez-company.net/httpdocs/tmp
vpafile is /tmp/phpIncQvi
vpafile_name is thumb-snake.gif
vpafile_size is 686
Record for Snake updated!

Apok2002

no

I also used a couple diff versions of the proarcadeadmin.php file you have there too.

futureal
09-06-2002, 03:36 AM
That's weird... no errors or anything. Do me a quick favor and in the Admin CP, try uploading a custom avatar for a user and tell me if it works or not.

Apok2002
09-06-2002, 04:04 AM
Yup, that worked.

btw, I was getting the red X's w/ the arcade graphics. But I can upload any graphic via admin cp for avatars...and users change their avatars to custom avatars freely on the site all the time.

futureal
09-06-2002, 04:05 AM
Man, I dunno why it doesn't work for you. The code I'm using is the same that vBulletin uses. If you're willing to provide me with a shell account and admin access briefly I can take a look at it and see what I can do, otherwise I'm stumped. I don't understand why it gives no errors, but still fails. :(

BUG FIX: I have fixed the top score board problem and along the way addressed some performance issues/ugly code. However, the basic structure of the hack was changed, so an update will not come until Beta 2.

There are now 4 tables:

arcadeconfig
arcadegames
arcadescores
arcadetopscores

Keeping track of topscores in a separate table allows for the Top Score Board (and to some degree, the upcoming stats page) to operate MUCH more efficiently -- and correctly.

I have a simple conversion script that will convert your current arcade table to the scores/topscores format when Beta 2 is released, so there's no need to worry about that.

I will work more on safe mode tomorrow. If anybody else is running in safe mode and can give me some feedback, it would be appreciated. Thanks.

I am having the same problem as apok2002 with the red X's in lieu of the images showing up. Not running in safe mode, and no problems uploading other images from the control panel. I've tried the different versions of the proarcadeadmin.php file as well.

It's running on a test board, and I haven't had a lot of time to do much more than play a couple of games, but this seems to be the only problem that has yet to be addressed.

Once again, thanks for a great hack!

Souly

You can add the games but the proarcade system isn't compatible with the Scoresytem from the Games
A Flash Profi must convert these files to work with the proarcade-system.

Wait for the next Release.
My list should show merely some examples of games these use a Scoresystem.

I am not doing ANY further work on this hack until I can figure out what is going on with the safe mode. There is no point in keeping this hack in a released state if it is not going to work on 50% of the forums out there.

Unfortunately, I don't have a safe mode server to test it on so unless I get some help here, the hack is dead in the water. A couple people offered to let me test things on their servers, but one had a bad server config and the other gave me admin access only to take it away the next day before I could even try anything.

Additionally, I have posted messages both in the Hacking Discussion forums here (0 responses) and over on vb.com (0 responses). I am rather fed up with the whole thing and am just about ready to pack it in for good. I don't like the idea of having this thing out there in a potentially unworking state.

So, once again, if anybody who knows PHP well can give me some direction here as to what I'm doing wrong, it would be most helpful. OR if you have a forum up and running in safe mode that I can test some ideas on, that would be great too.

Thanks.

How do you tell if you are running in safe mode ?

If you can tell me that I have my own server I could setup one of my domains for you to test on

futureal
09-07-2002, 06:03 AM
Two ways:

#1 - When you go to the vbProArcade admin panel it will echo a line at the top right now saying something like "safeupload is 1" if it says 1 you are in Safe Mode, otherwise you're not.

#2 - If icons/thumbnails are working, you're probably not in safe mode. :)

I have servers up the ying-yang, but all my vhosts are in normal mode, and my dedicated box I can't change because I am running scripts that are dependant on it *not* being in safe mode.

Souly
09-07-2002, 02:59 PM
I don?t understand the problem.

I am running on a SafeMode Server and i have no Problems with the upload from proarcadeadmin.php!

I have craeate /tmp/ Folders for the SafeMode and all works fine!

I see only one Error in the Script:
When one of the follow two fields are empty, and when i klick "Submit Changes" ...........

1) Use Scoreboard Icon-Upload New Icon
2) Use King Ico-Upload New Icon

....... i become the follow Errors:
http://www.clanforen.de/images/screenies/arcade1.gif
When i input all Data i see the follow:
safeupload is: 1
tmppath is: tmp
Arcade options updated!

I think, when some has problems and don?t give new Information about the problem, why you will do so much for this user? I am not seeing a safemode Problem!

I like to test some new Flashgames and change the *.fla files to work this the score system. How did you send the Scores to the proarcade.php?
The follow diesnt work in my nes tertis version :(
getURL ("proarcade.php?action=gameover", "_self", "POST");

Great hack, seems to work fine except for uploading the images. I'm not running safe mode and all other file uploads from the admin cp work fine except this. A bug I noticed is that the comment on the top scrore board is not updated if you get another high score. This may already have been said but I have no time to read the entire thread. Anyway :thumbsup: and hope to see more of this. :D

In case some people have this thread bookmarked and don't check the others in this forum, I made an addon for this and the Store hack: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?s=&threadid=43309. In short, with it you have to pay to play. :)

futureal
09-08-2002, 05:25 PM
Dark Jim: Quick question, do you have the most recent version of the files (you can just tell me which day you downloaded the zip).

Other than that, I would check to make sure that the path is correct and that the templates are installed/named correctly (e.g. vbproarcade_arcade for the main arcade page).

If neither of those is a fix, I will have to take a closer look at the code.

Sorry for the lack of updates these past two days. The major trade show for the R/C industry has been going on since Thursday and I have been going back and forth between Chicago to do some net coverage and deal with some people, so I haven't had much time for the web.

Everything does perfect working but not for new addon usergroup permission..

if (($bbuserinfo[usergroupid] != 2)
and ($bbuserinfo[usergroupid] != 5)
and ($bbuserinfo[usergroupid] != 6)
and ($bbuserinfo[usergroupid] != 7)) {

Well i need modify to for myself usergroupid number

if (($bbuserinfo[usergroupid] != 2)
and ($bbuserinfo[usergroupid] != 5)
and ($bbuserinfo[usergroupid] != 6)
and ($bbuserinfo[usergroupid] != 7)
and ($bbuserinfo[usergroupid] != 8)
and ($bbuserinfo[usergroupid] != 9)
and ($bbuserinfo[usergroupid] != 10)
and ($bbuserinfo[usergroupid] != 11)
and ($bbuserinfo[usergroupid] != 12)
and ($bbuserinfo[usergroupid] != 13)
and ($bbuserinfo[usergroupid] != 14)
and ($bbuserinfo[usergroupid] != 15)
and ($bbuserinfo[usergroupid] != 16)
and ($bbuserinfo[usergroupid] != 17)
and ($bbuserinfo[usergroupid] != 18)
and ($bbuserinfo[usergroupid] != 19)) {

}

Maybe you could make better code for usergroupid without modify above code?

and ($bbuserinfo[usergroupid] != 5)
and ($bbuserinfo[usergroupid] != 6)
and ($bbuserinfo[usergroupid] != 7)) {
show_nopermission();
}
break;

change to:

if (($bbuserinfo[usergroupid] != 1)
and ($bbuserinfo[usergroupid] != 3)
and ($bbuserinfo[usergroupid] != 4)) { } else {
show_nopermission();
}
break;

Dark Jim: You must have had an older version of the admin file; the newer ones have the corrected path.

Regarding Beta 2, here is one of the first "teaser" shots of some of the added functionality:

https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2002/09/1.jpg

This allows the admin to easily configure who can and can't access the arcade. The arcade will still default to groups 2, 5, 6, and 7 which are the default vBulletin groups for Registered Users. Mods, Admins and Super Mods.

It will be out when I have finished all of the "wish list" features that people have asked for. Right now there is no timeframe; just watch this thread for details. Any sort of store hacks/addons to this hack will remain separate, since the arcade should be able to fit right in to an unhacked vBulletin installation.

Can I see this in action? PM me the URL if you don't want to make it public.

I am beginning to wonder if I included an older file in the .zip somewhere. I will double check it when I get home (at work at the moment).

Did you install the games manually or with the included .SQL file?

In the source of the arcade pages, it says "codebase: ..." and "query string: ..." and so on. Those lines should be removed... or in other words, only everything after the colon should be added in those fields.

Does that make sense? Hopefully I described it well enough.

Yea, I played a game there and it seemed to work fine. I gave your users something to shoot for in Pacman. :)

One thing to watch out for is that by default on your forum, users are not browsing the board with cookies. This can cause erratic behavior with the arcade, since people are often playing for longer than the sessiontimeout value -- they may be asked to log back in rather than having their scores recorded.

On forums that don't have people browse with cookies by default, I suggest adding something to the game templates letting your users know that they may want to turn cookies on.

i see, for some reason since vb 2.2.3 i've had lots users having problems when browsing with cookies option on...

Sorry about the delay...

After the game I go immediately back to the Games listing screen.

It doesn't give me any screen to add a comment or anything, although I understand it works for most of my users. I also found out that at least ONE of my users has the same problem as I.

my site is afterblur.com. I'm using IE 5.50 and the user that has the same problem is using IE 6.0.26.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: dotableheader() in /home/virtual/site72/fst/var/www/html/forum/admin/proarcadeadmin.php on line 26

I have the latest proarcadeadmin.php file...when I try to upload the graphics...this is what I get:

safeupload is: 1
tmppath is: /home/httpd/vhosts/ez-company.net/httpdocs/tmp
vbProArcade Error: is not a valid file type for images (only gif/jpg/png are supported)

That is when I upload the scoreboard.gif...but it says the same for every icon/gif no matter where I try to upload it (crown icon, games, etc....)

also, re: the tmp folder...where should this be located? I use vbPortal...so I have it installed at my server root...my FORUM and where the games are installed, is root/forums/

so should it be: root/tmp ?
or
should it be: root/forums/tmp ?

Good news, everybody...

SAFE MODE PROBLEMS HAVE BEEN FIXED!

Please replace your current proarcadeadmin.php with this version. It contains all of the current bugfixes for Beta 1.03. This will (probably) be the last Beta 1.x file I post, since I am now working on incompatible versions for Beta 2.

I will be updating the zip file in the first post with this file as well. As always, please report any problems right away.

Thanks.

woohoo! gj! :) I see that it works now. :) What was the problem?

*edit*

lol I see you doubled the previous top scorer's score on Pacman...they'll never top that. Now did you PLAY it? Or did you modify the score via myphpadmin. haha

In any event, the graphics look great man...thanks for the hard work. :)

*edit again*

Now how do I get the crown to be in the postbit of each of the King's posts? Did I miss that post in this thread?

futureal
09-12-2002, 05:24 AM
Heh, nope, I actually played it. Pac is the only game of the five that I actually play, I've actually logged a few hours in it. I average in the 45K range, but that one was actually my best ever. :)

The problem was a single line of code that was incorrect. I also found a few more small bugs (mainly logic issues) in the process, so I fixed those along the way.

There are some posts about it somewhere in there. Right now, though, the Beta 1 is basically designed for a "text only" champions system. This will definitely be improved in the next release. If you can live with it until then, that is obviously the easiest.

Otherwise, you could edit the getpostbit(...) function in admin/functions.php. Right below the vbProArcade line that says "$post[usertitle] .= ..." you could add something like:

$post[crown] = "<img src=\"someimage\">";

Then in your postbit template, just add $post[crown] in there somewhere, and for the users that are champions, the image you named should appear.

There's a chance this might not work, I'm just making it up as I go along... :)

I can't think of anything at all that might cause that. I haven't seen that behavior yet anywhere.. I have to think it's some sort of browser issue, since it works fine for most of your users, but I still can't put my finger on what might cause it. I'm not even sure how it could know to send you back to the scoreboard...

eckels2
09-12-2002, 08:16 PM
wait. not the scoreboard. it sends me to the games listing. The screen where it shows the different games you can play, the high scorers, your score, and the game description.

I just tried setting up another administrator username, and playing using that name, same problem. De-adminned the name, and STILL got the same problem. I imagine it's got to be some sort of thing about how it connects to my pc... but i dunno. wait a second....

What version of flash do all the games use? Is it a command in the flash game that redirects the user to the comments screen?

futureal
09-12-2002, 08:18 PM
The games are compiled in Flash MX, and it transmits the score data using the HTTP POST method (sending the data through the HTTP header). There is a slim possibility that you have an older or incompatible version of the Flash Player, but I'm not sure how much of an issue that could be.

If it's going back to the arcade main page, then it means that the arcade is not getting the post-game information at all. Definitely some sort of browser/flash player issue then (if the script is called with no variables, it defaults to the arcade main page).

Maybe try upgrading your Flash player?

eckels2
09-12-2002, 08:45 PM
I've got the latest flash player, same problem.

cleared all temp internet files. Deleted all cookies. logged in fresh. same problem.

I don't know if this'll matter any, but the link that it says it's linking me to in the status bar is afterblur.com/vb/proarcade.php No extended variables, or anything, just a direct link. I don't know if the other superfluous information would show up in that link, but... it doesn't.

are there any dependancies on linking the user to the comments page? Like, does the script check for something before linking, that I might not have?

Since the variables are being sent from the game to the script via POST, nothing should show up in the address bar -- that is the difference between POST and GET. If it were GET, you would see something like:

proarcade.php?var1=something&var2=something (and so on)

are there any dependancies on linking the user to the comments page? Like, does the script check for something before linking, that I might not have?

I'm not aware of any dependencies. I wish I had a good answer as to why this might be happening. Since it works for the majority of users, I'm not sure where to look for a "fix" or even for the problem.

My guess is that it has something to do with the getURL() method in Flash's ActionScript not doing something correctly (say, headers getting corrupted, or something similar) but I honestly have no idea what I could do to isolate this.

Perhaps somebody out there more experienced with Flash might have an idea on this?

It looks like the games are not set to active. Go to the Game Options in the Admin CP and make sure each game is individually set to active.

If that isn't the problem, then... I dunno. Check the arcadegames table and make sure that the games are installed into that correctly.

As I said earlier, I believe something is configured incorrectly on your server. Uploading custom avatars in the Admin CP does not work either (which is a standard feature of vBulletin). Since the Arcade uses the same (basic) uploading system it stands to reason that it would not work either.

edit: I stand corrected. Since I no longer had a fresh copy of the old proarcade.php, I used the same version that I had been testing with on somebody else's site. Apparently, that individual had modified the code and I was unaware of it. I will have to update the zip again.

Sorry for the troubles; I hadn't anticipated on having to do a re-zip of the old version, and since all of the stuff on my hard drive is now Beta 2, things got mixed up. I thought I had caught everything, but apparently not.

futureal...

Ok check it out, I tried playing games from another computer, and It recorded my scores fine. So it's got to be something local on my PC.

I've seen a lot of members on different sites with the same problem I'm having, so there's some kind of requirement that I don't think everyone knows about, or something...

The only think i can think of is that it's somehow related to my flash plugin. does anyone know of a way to uninstall a flash browser plugin? I'm already updated to the most recent version, but I wonder if a clean install of the plugin would work better than this....

Other than that, i'm completely stumped.

Maybe if admins could gather the user info (browser, version, etc..) for the members that are having this same problem and post it here, we could figure out what the exact problem is?

I am going through known bugs and whatnot with the Flash player to see if I can find anything, and asking around some other places on the net.

I am not sure what kind of information would be most useful to gather from people. We've already determined it's not based on the browser version or the plugin version. Do you have anything odd in terms of a net connection, like a robust firewall, internet connection sharing or anything of that sort?

edit: Also if possible, let me know what your security settings are in IE, and whether or not you are going through a proxy server. I have been reading stuff on FlashKit about anomalous behavior with Flash and IE -- those are just a couple of the possibilities.

further edit: Another idea I've had is that it might have something to do with your caching options. In IE, check the "Settings" under "Temporary Internet Files" and let me know what it says (Always check, Check when IE starts, Auto, Never). Thanks.

eckels2: I went ahead and modified one of the games (Pacman -- one of two that I have access to right now) with one of the ideas that I had.

Please upload this to your arcade dir and change the filename in the Admin CP to match pacman-beta.swf (this way we'll know for sure that you're testing the new version of the swf) and give it a shot.

My hunch (and it's only a hunch, believe me) is that this is a browser cache issue of some sort. As a result, I hardcoded the action and game into the URL that Flash is passing to the script, and then appended a randomly generated number to the URL to force the browser to think that it's a new (or rather, unique) page. The chances of this actually fixing the problem aren't that high, but it should at least give us a better idea of what we're dealing with.

The file is attached here. Thanks!

In other vbProArcade news, I got inspired tonight to make the navigation bar ($navbar) easier to use.

The end result is that there is now a hierarchal navbar much like standard vBulletin.

All pages have:

Your Forum > Arcade

Sub pages have:

Your Forum > Arcade > Game Title
Your Forum > Arcade > Game Title Scoreboard
Your Forum > Arcade > Game Title Top Score Board
etc.

And with Beta 2, there will be sub-sub-pages, such as:

Your Forum > Arcade > Game Title Scoreboard > User Name's Scores for Game Title

But the best part about this system is that it uses the vBulletin navigation system, which means the template code has been reduced to simply "$navbar" and it will incorporate any changes you make the following templates:

navbar
nav_joiner
nav_linkoff
nav_linkon

This should make life easier from an Admin point of view.

These changes WILL be in Beta 2.

I hope you will include a txt file which is for upgrade and for ppl who have installed beta 1, so we don't need to uninstall and re install it again..

Every time you start Internet Explorer

250mb.

*** results of beta pacman test ***

I looked everything over, and my only suggestion is to try changing your cache settings to "Automatic," restarting the browser, and giving it another shot.

Other than that, everything seems to match my system perfectly.

I have a conversion script that will covert the database tables to be compatible with the new ones, but that will be it.

It will be up to users to make sure that the necessary code changes are made. Most of the changes are in the pro*.php files which can just be replaced, but there are others.

Also, the best option will be to remove the old templates and re-add the new (Beta 2) templates, since nearly every one has changed (with a few removed and a bunch added).

I will make it as painless as possible BUT it may be somewhat complicated.

This is an amazing hack and it seems to work perfect for most of my 700 users but vbulletin has been emailing me about sql errors.

Like this

This error is unrelated to my hack. You have apparently inadvertently installed some sort of vBulletin 2.2.7 code into your vBulletin 2.2.6 -- the althash field is something that was introduced in 2.2.7.

This is a known bug having to do with the ' character in a user's name. It has been FIXED for Beta 2. For Beta 1, find this line in proarcade.php:

$userscore_q = $DB_site->query_first("SELECT max(score) as maxscore FROM arcade WHERE game='$gamename' AND username='$username'");

And change it to this:

$theusername = addslashes($username);
$userscore_q = $DB_site->query_first("SELECT max(score) as maxscore FROM arcade WHERE game='$gamename' AND username='$theusername'");

That should fix the error.

No, it shouldn't be. Everything works fine in 2.2.7 as far as I know. Could you tell me where that althash error is being generated?

I don't directly address the sessionhash stuff at all in vbProArcade, other than passing it from page to page, so there shouldn't ever be a time where I am pulling it from the DB.

Since you're getting an "unknown column althash" error, it almost seems like one of the ALTER queries in the 2.2.7 upgrade did not work. Did you run the upgrade script and all that?

There is no real timeframe yet. I am adding new stuff every couple of days right now, and then there will be a Beta 2, which will turn into a Release Candidate and then into a Final Release.

My biggest goal is to finalize the SQL table structure in Beta 2 so that future installs will be easy to upgrade. I already have a SQL conversion script for Beta 1 -> Beta 2.

Once the hack itself is done and released, then we'll start worrying about getting all the games in order.

Tigga

Does anyone know how secure the script is and how hard it would be to edit the high scores? As I said above, I'm using this to make a little contest on my site and giving away free tickets to an event we're doing (worth $25 each) to whoever has the highest score in each game. One member has the highest score on each game and there's a couple of things that look a little suspicious... Ex - making a high score in one game, then another 4 minutes later... He beat my original Tetris high score of 127,000 by a few thousand, then when I managed to get 577,000 he came back and beat it by almost 300,000 4 hours later. He also doesn't appear to have played the games much, so that's why I'm a little suspicious. Is there a way I could maybe check my log files or something and see if someone other than myself has been in the server? Also, one of my users pointed this out on the board... "there's a problem inherant with having the game and the score-reporting client-side". Anyways, if anyone can help with this it would be much appreciated.

Got a quick question for ya Futureal... How exactly is the time for the games recorded? I'm guessing it pulls the time from the server since it seems to be about 2 hours off from the message board. Does it keep a record of the time from the server and record that, or would all the times change if the server time changed?

As far as I know, any Flash movie can be edited in this manner. Flash security is very, very limited. There are ongoing discussions and "challenges" on FlashKit (www.flashkit.com) regarding security.

The only thing I can think of that word be worth doing to prevent cheating is recording a user's "time of entry" onto the game page and then his/her "time of entry" onto the score page. Using the scoreboard editor, an adiministrator could easily see when a user is fooling the system -- e.g. a score of 1+ million in Tetris requires, what, 30 minutes of playing?

Really though, there is no foolproof method here. Anybody who knows how to hexedit can probably find a way to beat the system, but I am not too worried about it. I watch for things like new accounts immediately getting the highest score, and users having played once or twice and getting the highest score.

As always, I am open to suggestions on this matter if anybody has them. Security is a big issue here, but unfortunately Flash/PHP interaction is inherently insecure. :(

edit: This also addresses PlurPlanet's problem/question. I think that after reading this stuff, I may work on implementing my idea above. It would add yet another table and a few extra queries but it sounds like it would be worth it. In general terms, here is how this would work:

When a user goes to a "Play" page, an entry is recorded in the security table showing the user's ID, the game's ID, and the current server time.
When a user goes to a "Game Over" page, the security table is checked for the user's most recent open entry for that game, and the entry is "closed" by updating the record with the gameover time.
Each time a user goes to a "Play" page, the database checks to see if there is an "open" entry for that user and game; if there is, it is replaced, otherwise a new one is created

This would add 2-3 queries to the play page (the DELETE would not always occur) and 2 queries to the gameover page, as well as a fifth table to the arcade. The advantage is that it is completely server-side, so a user will not be able to fool it. The disadvantage is that a clever user could still fool the system if he/she knows how it works. However, it should make it a lot easier to spot.

The time is (right now) pulled off of the server and stored in the database in server time. I have not yet added the code to adjust for user's timezones, although that will be rather easy to do.

Also, see my previous post for discussion of your other problem. Thanks.

Ok, so that means that if a user made a high score at say 3:37 pm, then the server time changed, the time they got their high score would remain 3:37 pm, right? Just curious about that because the user we think might be cheating made a couple of scores that were too close together to be right, but it seems it could be possible since I know the server time has changed a couple of times, thus the times he made those scores could be off.

futureal
09-23-2002, 12:04 AM
As it stands right now, changing the server time would not affect old scores, it would only affect new scores. Like:

- Server time is 1 PM
- User plays game at 1:30 and its recorded as 1:30
- Server time goes back an hour
- User plays game again and its recorded as 12:35

Now in the database, it looks like the second game finished before the first game.

Once I add the code to compensate for a user's time zone, it will take the stored time as the server time, and then calculate the viewing user's GMT offset with that.

so registred user need a minimum of 5 posts before playing...

my question is.. there is a way.. for posts by day? or creating a new thread? something to help peple to not forget there are in a forum?

well i hope u understand my mind.. thanx in advance

I did the code the way you suggest Futureal. I'm not sure if that is still part of my current problems or not though.

The only games that work for me are Snake and Space Invaders. Any idea why the others wouldn't work?

Also, the Champions does not display. I tried the method mentioned earlier about putting it in postbits, but that doesn't seem to work either. If I put it in postbits shouldn't I also need a template called champions_postbits or something? (Don't laugh, I am a newbie :) )

Thanks for any help.

You could do things like that, but they would require additional queries. To get a user's posts in a day you would have to select from the post table where the userid is the user's and the date is today's date. For threads you'd have to check threadid to see if it was started by a particular userid on a particular day, and so on.

Basically, you would just have to add any conditional information to the code just as you added your post check above. You may want to display a message to the user as well, such as "You must post at least XX times each day to use the Arcade."

If a few games are working but others aren't, in means there is a problem in the Game Configuration. Check to make sure that the filenames (*.swf) are correct, the game names are unique/correct, and that the games are active.

Also, the Champions does not display. I tried the method mentioned earlier about putting it in postbits, but that doesn't seem to work either. If I put it in postbits shouldn't I also need a template called champions_postbits or something? (Don't laugh, I am a newbie :) )

The Champ System should work "as is" with no modifications, assuming that your user's titles are being displayed in postbit (which is the vB default). Once again, make sure that the Champ System is enabled in the General Options and enabled for each game that you'd like to see it on.

Checked all of the above multiple times, and it is correct. I tried just running the flash to see if it was the hack or the actual game too. The working titles (Snake and Space Invaders) work, but even if I go directly to the others they don't work. Maybe I uploaded in ASCII when it should be binary or vice versa? I checked permissions to and they working and non-working have the same permissions.

This may be the problem. I have a couple of User Title hacks, one allowing users to change titles if they have made a donation for example. Maybe the conflict is there?

I installed this hack, and there is a problem we are having...

On our board, we have custom user groups for group accounts...the people in the group aco++++s are getting a message that they cannot view the games becuase they do not have permission...

how do I set their permissions to on?

in the proarcade.php file you will see something like this

($bbuserinfo[usergroupid] != 2) and
($bbuserinfo[usergroupid] != 5) and
($bbuserinfo[usergroupid] != 6) and
($bbuserinfo[usergroupid] != 7) and
($bbuserinfo[usergroupid] != 8)

you need to find out what is ypur newgroup's # and add the stastement to it... if you look back in this thread you will see others including me had the same problem in the passed...its a very easy fix...

good luck

well like audionuts said before..

surely u create some usergroup... or rename the old one

check the usergrouID of the concerned members...
CP > UserGroups > Modify

now mouse over on "edit" (the usergroup u want), u will see a the bottom of ur page something like:
"http://www.yoursite.com/xxx/xxx..../usergroup.php?s=xxxxxxx
xxxxxedit&usergroupid= Y
were Y is the "level" of ur usergroup

now go and edit proarcade.php:

u should find by default this:
if
(
(
($bbuserinfo[usergroupid] != 2) and
($bbuserinfo[usergroupid] != 5) and
($bbuserinfo[usergroupid] != 6) and
($bbuserinfo[usergroupid] != 7) and

just insert a new line or midify the number...

like i done 10 posts upper... or like the copy of audionuts

so be careful, check if you did'nt give the right to play for non registred... lol

and sorry for this terrific english...

Hey Futureal...the hack works nicely. :)

I do have one comment though..i followed the instructions to a "T" and one of the things I have found was that the original instructions need to be updated with a few things.

One: Make sure that the manual instructions include the allgames.sql query that needs to be run.
Two: Make sure that the original changes to online.php in the manual instructions include the following fix from this post: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?postid=294235#post294235 This will fix the online issue in 2.2.7. ;)
Three: The top scoreboard apparently only shows 3 entries. My question is, I have the following scores let's say in Snake. 24,8,7,2,1. Now logic would stand to reason that the TOP scoreboard would reveal 24,8, and 7 as the top scores. However..this is not the case. 24 and 1 are scores I achieved, while 7 and 2 are ones another member have achieved.

What it is showing is 24, 8, and 1 My guess here is that only one user per high score will be shown...is that correct? Sort of a personal best pitted against the other members?

Thanks for the info. It's true that I have not updated the Beta 1 instructions too much since I am working on the next release. I will be sure to take care of that stuff.

As for the Top Score Board, it is designed to display each user's single BEST score for each game. So basically, we're ranking the users based on their best scores. This is in place since some users may play a game many times and fill the scoreboard with their scores; it seems more useful to be able to see only the single best score for each user.

Some of the games have pause built in. For example, hitting 'P' in Pacman will pause the game.

Not sure why Snake does not work for you. The keyboard works fine for me... anybody else have problems?

This is a great hack!

And for one so complex, it installed without a hitch (vbhacker) thanks to your excellent instructions. Good job man. My users are going nuts for it.

Can anyone tell me where I can find downloadable flash games? I'd like to take a look at them and see what would be involved in porting them over to this system.

In particular, I am looking for Galaga and Joust. Bonus for anyone who finds those - I googled around without much luck.

First off, thanks for the great hack futureal!

It is so great, in fact, that within an hour of installing it on my website, my users have effectively taken down the server my website is being hosted on! I had just taken first place back in Breakout, too! :p

Edit: Not sure if this was already mentioned, but it would be nice to have a feature to disable the music in the games that have it. That seems to be the only issue I have with it at first impressions (minus the known bugs).

Thanks again for a great hack, and keep up the great work! :D
