[DBTech] DragonByte SEO v2 (vB4)

I'm getting an error when I try to upload the xml file. It says the class_install.php appears to be missing. I uploaded the entire upload file, and it is in there so I don't see why it would say it couldn't find it. I didn't see any other install file. What do you think the problem is?

In the External Links settings, I have selected a few forums to be in the Excluded Forums list, but I can still see the rel="nofollow" in the links posted there. Is it a bug?

The vBulletin's setting for nofollow from BB Code settings page is disabled. I am using only the DBSEO's add nofollow setting for external links.If you disable DBSEO from the product manager and comment out its htaccess settings, does the nofollow still appear?

DBSEO has free version, which works and IS SUPPORTED. Also, pro version is more or less a way to say: Thank you for your great work. More effective than just writing it down. And pro version gives you many additional features.

So I installed this on my 4.2.2 board and it works great, I have the lite version. All the links work great, except for one forum, it keeps forwarding to the forums home page, won't go to the forum. The title of the forum is The Red Rocker. If I change the name to take out "red" from it works, but obviously I need that in the the title. Any ideas?

I'm not sure if this is the right place, but I'm absolutely THRILLED with dbseo! I thought I was going to be in some trouble when vbseo went downhill, but dbseo came in and saved the day. I put 'em through a bit too much support hassle and they took it like champs. Excellent product! I sprung for the paid version because I needed custom URLs for just about everthing.

The solution to my problem, maybe some help.

That means that you haven't added .htaccess rewrites for the old vB4 mod_rewrite friendly URLs, and DBSEO is trying to resolve this as a user account.

Try adding this above your DBSEO rewrite rules in .htaccess:

RewriteRule ^threads/.* showthread.php [QSA]

The issue is that (in my opinion) the lite version that was made available has the code for the pro version.

There is no "dbseo_pro" directory in the lite version....

forumdata_start does not exist in the lite version.

Hopefully they will re-upload the proper lite version to get this working again.

I took the XML file with the 1.3.2 version and stripped out the lines that refer to dbseo_pro functions and re-uploaded to my site.

Seems to have got things working for the time being.

I linked you that to tell you to remove the special characters from members usernames and it will fix the problem and in admincp/settings/options/User Registration Options/Username Regular Expression put ^[a-zA-Z0-9\s.\-_']+$
Or something like this to stop members registering with things like this if you already have this filled, maybe what you have in there is wrong

On another note, maybe the dev has a way around to allow them if it has anything to do with this mod, but I think it is more mysql does not allow them

The errors I am seeing are in thread names.

I think it was from when I switched from VB friendly names or something like that... not too sure.

I'm confused about the Friendly and Canatonical URLs. Do they need to be turned off or not? I saw where it said that they had to be turned off with VBulletin 4 but then also saw that if you disable the VBulletin sitemap generator that they did not need to be turned off.

So should they be turned off or not? The builtin VBulletin sitemap generator is turned off.

If you changed all your urls than you basically had to start over and you lost any link weight you had. At this point though I would tell you not to change your links back!

There are also many other factors that can be impacting your traffic such as the latest algo updates.

After 10 years on this site I am unsure why my posts are being moderated now.

I only posted here to get feedback from other members on the issue. I know you are busy and I thought someone else could shed some light.

I believe setting the legacy option under the rewrite section would probably fix this but I am not sure.

@khalled, if I were you, I'd ask on DBTech's site what is the best course of action for you to take.

DBSEO as an option has this:

URL Rewrite History
Change your URL Rewrite Rules without losing ranking
Checks for old URL formats only if no matches are made to existing formats
Stores only one copy of each old URL format for maximum database efficiency
Results are cached in the Datastore for maximum performance

It basically means you can keep old links' ranking and still use new ones. But, how to set this option, better ask on DBTech's site. They probably will help you to do that.

Everything is in the correct location. I've been running and updating this since it first came out. Since this last release it's been nothing but database errors.

I think I've found the problem. For some reason it's not allowing me to transfer the dbseositemap.php file over to the server under Public_html. This file is missing from the server and will not allow me to transfer it.

OK, I've done a complete reinstall. I've also uninstalled the plugin from the Admin panel and reinstalled it with the newest XML file. I guess we wait and see. If this doesn't fix it then I don't know what else to do.

I am using Xenforo Style Breadcrumbs by BOP5 (http://www.qapla.com/mods/showthread.php/400-XenForo-Style-Breadcrumbs-in-Navbar-for-VB-4x), but the breadcrumbs have been reverted to the default vBulletin look after installing DB SEO. Does anyone have a fix for that?

EDIT: Got it, just had to disable the plugin "Overwrite navbits" :) Does this have any bad impact on DB SEO now?

Not quite sure, but I think that DBSEO does the same thing for microdata as BOPs mod. You can check what plugin actually does. If it is the same code, i.e. it adds microdata and nothing else, than it doesn't impact SEO.

I know there's importer in pro version and also that it could be done (up to some level) with free version (given here also), but there are some steps that we should follow, like disabling mod, editing .htaccess file, uninstalling.

If DBTech would post it in first post here and make it sticky on DBTech's site, it would be really appreciated.

There's a lot of us with vBSEO and speaking for myself, I'm planning to switch to DBSEO in one moment or another. Guide like this certainly would ease many of my worries and speed that process up. At least for me.

That would be a good addition, Fillip. Unfortunal I'll have to check back with you guys tomorrow since the importer run into some problems on my site and I had to go back to vbSEO for now cause wether the 301s nor the start or forum pages were reachable through SE results.

For now: is DBSEO supporting the showthread rewrite as [tld.com]/[threadID]-[threadtitle].html ? That's the format we use now for about 10 yrs and DBSEO doesn't seem to support that without a forumID or title. May be I'm actual suffering a temporarly blindness but I haven't found a setting for that.

I recommend to test the migration from vbseo to dbseo on a testserver. I haven´t and - due to custom settings and I guess own misconfigs - my site crashed. My fault (!) and I have to wait for DBTech to have a look at it.

I got this DBSEO installed and really like it but I having trouble setting my site default to CMS home. I can't get my forum shows up. Setting default to forum works fine. Am i doing something wrong? or there are some settings I can tweet?

I disagree. I would and do use TeamViewer, GoToAsssit, or any other remote access software to assist people. Most of the time these are the users that want to learn how to do things so that they do not have to pay me a second time to it or apply what I show them to other similar issues if they feel comfortable. What I generally do is mirror the desktop and then skype with them first and let them perform the work as I watch over. If it becomes too much then I can gain control with their permission and show them that way. If they don't like what I am doing or question it, they can easily and quickly disconnect me. I try to educate all my clients.

This is a server issue. You or your host will need to increase the 'max_allowed_packet' in my.cnf, then restart MySQL. I recommend at least 32M for this setting. If that doesn't work, try 64M.

Over Skype they can watch your screen, it does the same thing, but better than teamviewer as you are not going through them they are only watching your desktop

Just courious to hear what others experience:

Since DBSEO is installed we had to alter some server settings (var_maxs limits) to make sure, that DBSEO can work and changes in the vb backend, that have to run many queries at the same time, are stored completly in the DB and not only partial. That was what we´d experienced before and resulted in a variety of problems, until Fillip could sort out that we had to raise our var_max_input limits to over 10.000 and to remove Sohusin from our server. We don´t felt very comfortable with this, as we´ve tried to tweak our server to be more hardend against attacks we´d been facing in the past. But even those limits don´t avoid, that we receive DB errors from DBSEO stating "Too many connections" from time to time. That may be related to the fact, that SE´s are actually reindexing the new sitemaps and this creates usage peaks. Fillip already explained, why this limits have to be that high but I hope DBTech comes up with a somehow "lighter" script.

I've also been getting the "too many connections" error a lot lately on a forum with medium amounts of traffic (perhaps 1000 users online at once) and a server with similar spec to yours @Marv. Not sure how to resolve it yet, am talking with my hosting company.

Did you had vBSEO and what situation was then?

Anyway, about server load averages, this is nothing and you have at the moment a lot of room for your server.

Each core (you have 12) is represented with 1 when it's up to 100% load in server load averages. So, if your server would run with 50% load, you'd see something like: 6:6:6 (well, the number of the beast :D). You could interpret it like 6 cores run to the max and 6 aren't working at all. Or any other way you want to.

Having 1,5 load would be problem on 1 core server. With 2 core server would be actually just fine.

And these values aren't exactly linear, but give you idea how hard your server works. Anyway, you still have a lot of room for loading your server up. A really very lot of room. Your server works with about 10% load, which is nothing. Probably you don't need so strong server (if it is your peek load, of course).

But I have a problem. Before, I used vBSeo. Thread-URLs were like forum.com/forum-title/../threadtitle-threadID WITHOUT .html

I dont care much having html or not, but the old links do not work now. Links from google are all horribly wrong and get redirected to my front page. Any solution for this please? fast maybe? :D Allready tried this:

@ the speed issues: DBSEO needs to open a new DB connection because it loads before vBulletin does, so that is why you're seeing extra MySQL connections needed. This is not a problem unless your server is a toaster.

Also, server load is only a problem if it approaches the number of CPU cores you have available. For instance, on a Dual CPU 8-core server, all server loads below 32 is perfectly normal. 2 CPUs x 8 cores x 2 due to HyperThreading.

0.7 to 1.6 is literally nothing.

@ vBSEO: An importer from vBSEO is available in the Pro version of DBSEO, so if the default URL formats in DBSEO cannot match your vBSEO URL formats then you will not be able to use your vBSEO formats in DBSEO Lite.

A simple template change that will remove the "Remember Me" text and the associated tick box. Upon login the code hides both of functions, but will submit automatically the 'Remember Me' box as ticked. It uses a simple code change and one additional parameter to check the box.

Installation:
Login to your AdminCP -> Styles & Templates -> Style Manager -> Edit Options -> Edit Templates -> header template

Now- without the mod- back running on 1.50-4.00, so it seems like it indeed is the plugin. Any idea if the URL rewriting could make the server load increase this much? Using Nginx too- going to try rewriting trough there right now to see any differences.

It?s slowing down the site, yes, but (for us on a minor forum with 200 sessions at one time) not that heavily that user experiences are affected very much. But I guess that?s through design.

Could you please report back, how you got this solved for you in the end, when you?re done reviewing that issue?

Yep, we switched directly from vbSEO to DBSEO and I wrote down the loads for comparison. With vbSEO CPU load was ~80% and server loads barely under 1:1:1 .

I?m not worried to run out of ressources :D. Indeed it has slightly slowed down the server. I was just courious if that could somehow add up over time to create a problem the one or other way. As Jorandh pointed out now, unfortunal it can be a big deal. Unless DBTech can?t relay on a QA with 20 people, DBSEO is beeing updated on the fly and therefor needs bug reports they can act upon. It?s a bit to much to expect, that Fillip is going through each an every line of code to reflect every server config, environment or custom feature available.

Errm wait..mhm..that idea doesn?t sound THAT bad :D;)

Yes, it looks bad, having server load from vBSEO to DBSEO spike that much.

On the other hand, I hope that DBTech would find a way to reduce that load with next versions. For example, APTL (thanks mod) had greatest impact on server (at least mine), so much so I had to stop using it. But, over time that was reduced so much that now it's reasonable.

Hopefully the same will be with DBSEO.

Thanks :)In the do_not_upload folder there's a server-side cron job file. If you're comfortable editing PHP files and using the crontab feature on your server, you can use that file to generate the sitemap as often as you want :)

Hello DBTech Developers,

I have an issue I am hoping to figure out. I have attached an image of all the relevant system information.

One of our users reported that he uses the "Linear - Newest First" thread display mode and that when he submits a post in a thread with more than one page he is taken to the last page where the oldest posts are displayed, rather than being taken to the top of the first page as he should. I have verified this happens to me as well when I changed my thread display mode settings to match his.

I also notice that if I click the icon on the forum display page that will take you to the last post in a thread, I am instead taken to the last page where the oldest posts are displayed. And if I click the enumerated links at the upper right of the posts, I am taken to the last page if I am on the first and to the first page if I am on the last.

I have always used the "Linear - Oldest First" thread display mode and so I never noticed this issue before now. This is not an issue on my two dev sites on which I do not have [DBTech] DragonByte SEO v1 (vB4) installed and when this issue was first reported, the site ower immediately suspected it likely had something to do with the "URL Rewrite Settings."

So, I am hoping someone can help me get to the bottom of this. I performed a search of the web and this thread and did not find anything relating to this issue.

I've installed the last version on a site that's not at full use now. The pages are working fine as far I can see. Now is the time to try the extra features:

a) Sitemap generator.

vB sitemaps are on ./htdocs/store_sitemap

DBSeo sitemaps are stored or only generated on the fly?

b) I want to install the social buttons

This one strong reason to install vBseo, you have many features in one mod

I have set the social buttons feature on and nothing appears

What I'm missing?

So you removed the xml first but did you also make sure you deleted all files from your ftp and removed the lines in the htaccess file as well. I would also go to admincp/Maintenance and clear system cache and run each thing in General update tools

I uninstalled this, removed the templates, but I am still recieveing errors referencing this MOD, my site is pretty much unusable at the moment. What is missing to completely remove this product from my site???

This one you need to speak to your host about its a server issue or if you have access you will need to edit the php.ini file to allow more connections or there is a server issue your host needs to look into.

That should do it. You're going to want to place it before your DBSEO rewrite rules.

They are trying to fully remove the plugin so they do need to remove all files that came with the plugin

So you removed the xml first but did you also make sure you deleted all files from your ftp and removed the lines in the htaccess file as well. I would also go to admincp/Maintenance and clear system cache and run each thing in General update tools

Looks like this was the answer! Thanks alot for the help! As of current, no further issues, db errors, and I am back into my site.

I'll go with the pro version next time around. For some reason, out of nowhere whille updating a BBCode manager tool, I hit save.. then my DB began giving errors, site began running slow.. and the DB errors continued to reference this mod.. That's the last thing I remember doing before all hell broke loose.

I am not trying to upload.. I am trying to REMOVE.

I uninstalled via product manager, deleted those files that were still on my server. Now I get this error and cannot access my site.
Download the plugin again and check what files need to be removed from your ftp this way you delete all files from this plugin but it also makes sure you dont delete files from another one

I think I will go with the pro version of this mod instead of trying to work around the lite version again.

Glad you got it fixed I find this one works so no need to go pro if you need help ask on the dev site they can config the settings for you at no cost if you are having problems with the rewrite rules

Hey guys, I am having a problem with the built-in 301 redirect of www to my non www website. This works only if the non secure version is requested.. http. My site is secured HTTPS and if someone enters https://www.mysite.com, it doesn't redirect to https://mysite.com.

Is there a setting I am missing or do I have to alter some code?

I don't know but i never faced this issue with vbseo sitemap but with dbseo google websmater always reporting errors on the sitemap even though i have 2 sites hosted on the same server but the one uses vbseo sitemap has no issue and it is bigger sitemap and the one using dbseo is always having issues with google webmaster.
