Yes, you have two YouTube definitions.

Doh...! Is that simple...?   :D

I have this three definitions:

1 - YouTube Embed YouTube.com Videos! (With Deep Linking Support - Seconds Only)

And it states: DUPLICATE_youtube_1280744586_201

2 - YouTube (Playlists) - Embed YouTube.com Playlists!

and it states: youtubeplaylists

3 - YouTube (Profile Pages) - Embed YouTube.com Profile Videos!

Should I delete number 1 (duplicate?)

Yes, the one that says "DUPLICATE_" is the default one that's automatically re-generated whenever you upgrade. So it ends up conflicting with the one with the same key. I hope to address this problem when I take over development of the main product.

Ahhh! So now I understand what went wrong... It was the upgrade...!

Ok, I've disabled the one that says "duplicate" and now it works again as if it was the very first day...! Beautiful!

THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!

How about Livestream .... www.livestream.com .... any chance we get them added?

I'm not sure if it's something on my end, but Flickr embeds don't seem to be working properly on my site.

Example:
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showpost.php?p=35340036&postcount=14

You can see it's loading a box, with an "Unknown Error" inside.

Any suggestions?

EDIT: I also just ran across another that doesn't seem to be working... eBay items posted don't seem to be even trying to embed as a thumbnail, it just posts the URL normally.

Near as I can tell, they changed the way Photostreams are laid out. So it's probably breaking the code. Old URLs seem to still embed. And eBay seems to have change their URL structure. Both will have to be updated.

Maybe you could let folks know so they don't keep asking over and over?

Our users love the simplicity and the number of sites your mod covers and would like to thank you for all your efforts !

I tried to provide Def. Request feedback via the COG link but could not find or location to submit.

Embedding PhotoBucket SlideShow links is not working. I loaded latest Delta file but still no go. Wondering if you have any tips or know if there is a definition for the PhotoBucket SlideShows ?

have similar problem not installing all definition but maybe just half of it... try install one-by-one starting from youtube - not working too :( but first half is OK. may be something in XML-file?

I don't know may be it was posted here but is it any way it can parce this links http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=h-zcLI2aRnY
Becouse for now if there is something before v=XXX it's not parsing :(

and finally I have problem with youtube and vbadvanced:
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/ (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/6/error1pl.jpg/)

and it's braking all other modules in vbadvanced after that.

That should be all you need to do. Possibly re-sync you cache.

I'll look into it first chance I get. I retested videos during the last update, but forgot about their slideshow option.

I've never seen that string before. Where did you pick that up? Standard embedded videos should have player_embedded after the video ID. I might be able to compensate, but I'd like to know where those particular strings are originating from.

As mentioned in the FAQ post, the character count you allow in a vBa module will include all the characters in the HTML, too. So you if you have fewer characters allowed in a module than is in the embed code, it will get truncated and create issues like shown here.

The old embed code still displays the URL after the video. The new iframe embed doesn't, but I notice you still have the option to grab the old version if you look deep enough. Places like Facebook still use it, but I've always seen it with video_embedded after the video ID. Odd.

What problems are you having with Dailymotion, specifically?

Short Links are embedding for me, but if you can post the links you tried, I can try them on my demo. Alternatively, there's a mod by BirdOPrey that converts short URLs to long ones, if that turns out to be the issue.

Working on my installation (http://www.cogonline.net/forums/showthread.php?p=377809#post377809). You said you have the most recent update, right? Only thing we can do is try to double check all your settings. Make sure Disable New items is set to No, resync your File Cache, etc,.

I don't get a video embedded when I post a url from there, I just get a link.
So far all the links I tested are still embedding. Can I see some of the links your using?

I try to update definitions as often as I can, provided people keep me up to date on sites that have stopped working. But the nature of my life prevents me from setting down an actual timeline.

You can create a definition to embed images, and it's probably best if they are located at a specific location, like you've done there. All that would change is, instead of embed code, you would use <img></img> tags and have the RegEx identify something unique to each image URL. If you haven't checked the tutorials on the first page of this thread yet, you might want to check them out.

I have this installed with the latest version of AME. Testing the templates shows pretty much everything working except for eBay. When I paste in the eBay link, all I get is just the http link. I did download the image for eBay. Just cannot seem to make it work. I did notice that there are 3 different versions of template for eBay. Perhaps some sort of conflict? Sorry if this has already been asked, but I could not go through all 119 pages of this thread.

Thanks!

Thanks DJ for the responce...

I finally got it to work and made an xml file that will let ya post a .pdf from any site, including locally.

Regular Expression
([http://]*[\w]*[\.]*[\w]\.[\w/&;%-\.]+\.pdf)

Replacement
<iframe src="http://docs.google.com/viewer?url=$p1&embedded=true" width="$ameinfo[width]" height="$ameinfo[height]" align="center" style="border: none;"><param name="url" value="pdf=$p1" /></iframe>

One down, now if I can get one for DocStoc I'll be doing Great, I can do them with BBcode, but they pass 2 varibles so I have to use the "Option" in BBCode.
(ex. Document ID) I dont know how to code that in AME definitions.

Thanks Again DJ and Please check my xml and make sure it's up to standards, and as it should be.

LOL what a way to spend New years Eve, troubleshooting embedding code...Go Figure....LOL

i have installed this definition.. great for me using external pdfs... i just want to change the title on to middle from 'PDF' to thread title like in youtube embed..... may be this 'pdf=$p1' part in replacement to be changed.... i tried $threadtitle not working....

AME will only pull the title of URL source. So if it doesn't have one, such as a PDF, you have to use the default name of the definition. Template variables do not parse inside of of the replacement field.

When I imported, it said worked like a charm.

Is there a limitation on how many I can import?

Anyone? I can't get vimeo and a lot of others to embed.

Yes.. I read the FAQ and see that sometimes it will only import half. I tried importing the others and it just won't import them, although it says it worked like a charm. Frustrating for newbies!

I even deleted a bunch that I didn't want and tried to re-import just vimeo, photobucket, and a few others and would not import.

Looks like the request forum is offline again...

This GameSpot video isn't parsing:

http://www.gamespot.com/the-secret-world/videos/the-secret-world-exclusive-blue-mountain-location-video-6349173/

Has GameSpot has changed their video URL scheme? Almost all that I can find at http://www.gamespot.com/videos/index.html are www.gamespot.com / <gamename> / videos / videoname-videoid which doesn't match either of the conditions in the two GameSpot definitions (at least what my limited knowledge of expressions tells me).

Thanks.. didn't work though. Tried deleting all definitions. Redownloaded the xml. Reimported. Says all fine, but when display the definitions, only up to the "g's".

Tried FF and IE.

Manually installed the ones I wanted and seem to be okay.

I used to have Goldbrick installed. I have uninstalled it and rebuilt my post cache - so now all posts which used the tags have links inside them.

How can i get AME to take these media tags and convert them into AME tags?

I understand the bit about "converting codes" - but it doesn't seem to apply to this.

I don't know what Goldbrick is but if you are left with simply links to media (not inside any bb codes) then in the Admin CP -> AME CP -> Tools there is a "Rebuild" option for posts... be warned it could take a while on a large forum. I'd suggest closing the forum before running the tool. Wouldn't hurt to backup the database either.

The links to media are wrapped in URL bb code. Will rebuilding turn these into AME code?

Still not having short youtube links to work. Anyone else have this problem?

Here is one that will not work. I have to use the "long" url version.

http://youtu.be/V-Z2l28UDQA

This is the regular expression I have:

http://youtu\.be/([\w]+)\??[hd=1]*[&amp;t=]*([\d]*)[\w]*

And the replacement:

<iframe width="$ameinfo[width]" height="$ameinfo[height]" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/$p1?start=$p2" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

BirdOPrey5
02-22-2012, 05:14 PM
The regular expression should be:

http://youtu\.be/([\w-]+)\??[hd=1]*[&amp;t=]*([\d]*)[\w]*

It was missing the - after the \w in the first parameter.

\w = any latter or number or underscore (but it doesn't match the dash (-) so you have to add the dash manuall because youtube ID's can have dashes in them.

I'm not sure if those double ?'s are right but if it works with other videos but not all I'm sure the dash is the problem.

Reposting from last page:

This GameSpot video isn't parsing:

http://www.gamespot.com/the-secret-world/videos/the-secret-world-exclusive-blue-mountain-location-video-6349173/

It appears that GameSpot has changed their video URL scheme. Almost all that I can find at http://www.gamespot.com/videos/index.html are www.gamespot.com / <gamename> / videos / videoname-videoid which doesn't match either of the conditions in the two GameSpot definitions (at least what my limited knowledge of expressions tells me).

The current expressions and replacements for GameSpot are:
http://www\.gamespot\.com/[\w/]*video/[0-9]+/([\d]+)[\w\/\-\?=;]*

<embed id="mymovie" width="432" height="362" flashvars="playerMode=embedded&movieAspect=4.3&flavor=EmbeddedPlayerVersion&skin=http://image.com.com/gamespot/images/cne_flash/production/media_player/proteus/one/skins/gamespot.png&paramsURI=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.gamespot.com%2Fpages%2F video_player%2Fxml.php%3Fid%3D$p1%26mode%3Dembedde d%26width%3D432%26height%3D362" wmode="transparent" allowscriptaccess="always" quality="high" name="mymovie" style="" src="http://image.com.com/gamespot/images/cne_flash/production/media_player/proteus/one/proteus2.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"/>

Yikes. Over 1800 posts. if this has been asked before, I apologise.

How would I alter the xml file so that the locally hosted .mp3s definition works with *any* mp3, regardless of location? So if a user posts the URL of an MP3 it's embedded instead.

I tried messing with the xml file, but I really don't know what I'm doing. Looks like I need to replace the bit which says:

<findcode><![CDATA[([http://]*[\w]*[\.]*cogonline\.[\w/&;%-\.]+\.swf)]]></findcode>

With something else - some kinf of wildcard.mp3 or something.

Anyone got any ideas?

BirdOPrey5

Morrus,

That won't work. AME is based off of recognizing specific patterns. If something is too general then it would start thinking all your text is media links and that would be a bad thing.

Forcing the link to correspond to a known URL where only a small part of the file name changes keeps those bad things from happening.

You will need to put some limitations on where the mp3 file is located.

You also don't edit the xml file... In Admin CP -> AME CP -> Add New Definition is where you would add/edit a definition.

That's a shame. Unfortunately I'm using a bunch of RSS feeds to create a "podcast megafeed", which links directly to the podcast audio files, so the URLs are all different. The only thing they have in common is that they're all audio files.

Although I personally don't recommend it, something like this as your Regex can theoretically work. Just know that you might run into pattern recognitions in posts when you don't want it to.

http://.*\.mp3

I'd recommend thoroughly testing it out first on your demo board.

2nd is for Racer X videos: Don't have the direct video link, but just the link to the video page.

Did Google change something with respect to how the maps are linked? I have AME 2.5.6 installed on my forum (VB 3.8.1 PL1) and it worked fine for a while just using the link to the map. Now, the map is not embedded and all that shows is the link, just as you see it in my post here. What is odd is that all the embeds that worked fine before still work fine when the old posts are viewed. But new attempts at embedding using the link will not work. Is there a new definition for AME that I need to update?

I've been poking around today trying to figure out if I can use AME to embed tweets using Twitter's oEmbed.

I've got this in Regular expression:
http[s]*://[www\.]*twitter\.com/[\w]+/status[es]*/([\d]+)

And this in Replacement:
<script type="text/javascript" src="https://api.twitter.com/1/statuses/oembed.json?id=$p1"></script>

And yet what happens is I end up with a blank post with no tweet/Twitter rendering when I post something like "https://twitter.com/twitterapi/statuses/133640144317198338".

Is the problem somehow trying to render by way of javascript in a post through AME? I concede I may well be barking up the wrong tree trying to do it this way. Wide open to any and all suggestions.

If you reload the page does the tweet show?

Hey, thanks for the response. No, no change when you reload. Remains a blank post, but I can see the JS code there in a View Source. That may be noteworthy insofar as loading that oEmbed link directly (the target result of the replacement) returns all of the data (and a render script) as below (this is Twitter's example of it in practice):

https://api.twitter.com/1/statuses/oembed.json?id=133640144317198338

So it's like it's not functioning as a GET, or not writing/parsing/embedding the response. I'm just not sure. Then again, it probably wouldn't show the response in the View Source even if it was working -- nevermind, just sorted that out.

Obviously I'm at a bit of a loss.

Also, I'm wondering about how safe/secure this is even if I did make it work. I suppose I'm only letting people pass a numeric string through to the script itself, so it can't get loaded up with anything malicious. See any issues on that front (as a secondary question)? Probably a non-issue, but I thought I'd ask someone who actually has a clue (unlike myself).

This is the required replacement code:

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>&nbsp;</p>&nbsp;<a href="https://twitter.com/twitterapi/status/$p1">&nbsp;</a></blockquote>
<script src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

The Javacript looks for the class "twitter-tweet" if it is missing nothing will happen.

No security risk as long as you trust Twitter.

Still not working on my end. Larger (vertically) mostly blank post with either a hyphen or an underscore in it.

Here's what's showing up in View Source:

<!-- message -->
<div id="post_message_2176544">

<div style="display: none;" id="ame_noshow_post_1342025206_1">
<a href="http://www.(MYSITE).com/forum/redirect-to/?redirect=https%3A%2F%2Ftwitter.com%2F(SOMETWITTER NAME)%2Fstatus%2F(TWEETID)" title="Twitter" target="_blank">Twitter</a>

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>&nbsp;</p>&nbsp;<a href="http://www.(MYSITE).com/forum/redirect-to/?redirect=https%3A%2F%2Ftwitter.com%2Ftwitterapi%2 Fstatus%2F(TWEETID)">&nbsp;</a></blockquote>
<script src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
</div>
</div>
<!-- / message -->

So it's there and the tweet id is passing through properly. We're just not rendering their widget (or whatever it is) on the page/post.

Should the twitter.com/twitterapi GET be a script itself instead of an 'a href' call?

Nevermind, that didn't work either.

Just found this, it's how someone got it to work with PHPbb (which is probably completely irrelevant, but maybe there's something there:

So it does (with your replacement code as above -- for those who follow this thread after the fact). Not as 'slick' as being able to take straight URLs, but does the trick.

Do you know if the oEmbed response will get cached through vB that way? Don't want this to be calling for results to the same request on every load.

Thanks for that update!

--edit--
Oddly, for me, the tweet renders properly within the BB Code Manager page in the admincp, but shows up blank in posts (even after a refresh). I wonder if that redirect bit "/redirect-to/?redirect=" of vbSEO is somehow getting in the way. Doesn't seem like it should, and why in posts but not the admincp (I ask, rhetorically). Can't wait to be free of that (vbSEO) disaster.

I can't get the second link to play any video... Maybe I will try again later.

The first site isn't ideal for linking via AME. I have attached a definition that works for this video but it may fail if the story title has numbers in it. Could't find any way around that.

Also understand if you use this if anyone tries to link to that site to a news story without a video (assuming they have any) it will also break.

Really i would avoid using AME unless linking to actual video sites (youtube, vimeo, and the like.)

I suggest whenever updating a regex from http to https you add an asterisks after the s, so:

https*://maps\.google\.com[\w.]*/[maps]*\?[\w]*=[\w+&;='%,.-]+

That means it will work with our without the s in the URL.

So I recently installed a certificate so my users could browse via https. Well this seems to have broken youtube embeded videos. So if I log onto my forum with http, youtube video works fine, https, I get a title but a blank box.

Vimeo videos appear to work fine with either connection.

Is this something I can fix?

I can't get https to work with mp3's from the addons. (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=195884)

I'm storing the mp3 locally on the server. If I use an http link it pulls up the media player and plays it fine..but if I use the https link, it just shows the link.

Hi guys,

Having a couple of issues.

I have downloaded the definitions pack and all the defs for locally stored media imported without a problem.

However the big list of external link definitions kept failing to load completely. So as advised in the faq I did a couple at a time. I am at a point now where I have added enough definitions in small groups that the whole list will work but there are some that won't work at all. All the youtube definitions for example won't upload regardless of if I do them one at a time or as part of the whole list.

Also does anyone have any experience or found the definitions with putlocker media links?

Here is an example to media I have up on putlocker:

URL link:
http://www.putlocker.com/file/9267704207230C2A#

Embed Link:
<iframe src="http://www.putlocker.com/embed/9267704207230C2A" width="600" height="360" frameborder="0" scrolling="no"></iframe>

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Any insight from someone who has converted to this plugin after using passiveVid? I've been using that plugin for a while now and have found that it conflicts with other things and I need to drop it. Any special instructions for converting over to this one? I know I have to uninstall it and remove all files and database tables, just wondering if anyone has any other tips.

Thanks!

I've run into a problem that I'm trying to sort out with my server that's holding further development up. I'm not able to save changes or import definitions on either my board, my test board or a client's board on my shared server. I'm working with them to try and rectify the issue, but if it turns out that it's an AME issue, this might delay things for the foreseeable future.

Digital Jedi

Okay, just to keep you guys apprised, we didn't really solve the problems with my server, but I've found a workaround that should work, and maybe any of you that were having a similar problem saving definitions can benefit from it. I'm having to put brackets around the http of the RegEx or encase the whole RegEx in (). No idea what that works, but at least I can save defs now. (Still can't delete any.) I'll try to have some updated ones for you sometime this week.

In addition to that, those of you having trouble with URLs that have been changed to https links, just do as BirdOfPrey recommended and add an s? to the RegEx. I'll post updated ones for those later.

Because of both the https issue and the fact that I'm using brackets, all definitions released from here on out will require the RegEx pattern to look like this:
Which, ironically, is the way The Geek used to format his default definitions in the first place before I started doing it differently. Maybe that's why. (Doh!)

I cannot open my board just yet to the public, but I'll try and set up something where you can continue to make definition requests. It won't be vB, so you won't be able to see my demos, but it will be something temporary anyway.

Can't seem to get links to Google Maps to work:

Link to actual map here:

https://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=Sachse,+TX&daddr=35.46247,-97.51682+to:35.21838,-101.82974+to:32.23037,-101.47071+to:TX-78+N&hl=en&sll=32.929166,-96.619263&sspn=0.234278,0.470009&geocode=FWkt9wEduhI--ikhPQHENQNMhjEnOTVA71TPuw%3BFUYdHQId7AIw-ilb5iXS1xayhzEQFocLP6j2YQ%3BFcxjGQIdlDPu-Snr93Vn7k4BhzFhHtb4ahj0jw%3BFeLL6wEdCq7z-Snlr09WUCL5hjFcDw8SI0g2Xg%3BFVoq9wEdYA0--g&gl=us&mra=dme&mrsp=4&sz=12&via=1,2,3&t=m&z=6
In addition to the https, the colon was throwing the definition off. Just add both to the ReGex like so:

https?://maps\.google\.com[\w.]*/[maps]*\?[\w]*=[\w+&;:='%,.-]+

Wide open to any and all suggestions.

https://dev.twitter.com/docs/embedded-tweets
https://dev.twitter.com/docs/api/1/get/statuses/oembed
I was able to get this to work, but I used additional JavaScript which I picked up from another BBCode posted here. It has the same limitations that JavaScript has when posting via AJAX, but it works. JavaScript is not my language, so I don't know why it does. Possibly older code. Hopefully not deprecated.

<script type="text/javascript">
function loadx(data) {
document.write(data.html);
}
</script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="https://api.twitter.com/1/statuses/oembed.json?id=$p1&callback=loadx"></script>
<div class="twitter" onLoad="loadx().html"/>

Is that all the YouTube defs (Playlists, User Profiles) or just the default one? Did you get any error messages when you tried, or is simply nothing happening after import?

I can't get the second link to play any video... Maybe I will try again later.

The first site isn't ideal for linking via AME. I have attached a definition that works for this video but it may fail if the story title has numbers in it. Could't find any way around that.

Also understand if you use this if anyone tries to link to that site to a news story without a video (assuming they have any) it will also break.

Really i would avoid using AME unless linking to actual video sites (youtube, vimeo, and the like.)
I took a look at that first one, and it looks like it might be possible to make a def for just the videos section. That way they could avoid false embeds from the whole site. I'll put that on my list of things to do as well, presuming you don't beat me to it. I'll also try and get all yours and the community's defs I may have missed included in the Master XML.

Anyone can help to embed new divshare design?
If you can hook me up with some URLs and Embed Code, I'd be happy to take a look. DivShare comes up every now and again as a request, but I've yet to see what it's embed code looks like, since it's not a browse-able site. I decided to just join tonight and upload a video to see for myself, but for whatever reason, the embed code region for my video is blank.

Yes, I know it's Thursday. No, I have no idea why I insist on calling it that. We've established I don't sleep much.

Here's a few definitions to hopefully get you through the weekend. New and updated, and collected a few from BirdOPrey. Not yet added to the Master XML.

UPDATES
Mostly fixes for the https problem a lot of you were running into, and because some of the sites had updated their URL/Embed Codes.

Dailymotion
eBay
Facebook
Google Maps
Hulu
YouTube

NEW
A few requests, and a few defs made by BirdOPrey while I was away.

Alli Sports - It appears this site is making a gradual move to all YouTube hosted videos. Fortunately their URLS were distinct enough that I could add two more definitions to support that change.

WWLTV - I tweaked this one a bit to only embed videos from their videos section. Should help to prevent any conflicts with regular news pages.

NOLA - Embed using their permalinks from within the video, rather than their page URL.

Red Bull Signature Series - Another BOP-created def, tweaked a little bit, so I could save a copy on my durn server. Also expanded to include some additional video URLs.

Twitter - Requested in the Twitter BBCode thread, this one should work for everyone.

Putlocker and SockShare - Watch out for popups!

Oh yeah, I almost forgot that I wanted to replace MegaUpload badges with something. This isn't perfect, as you'll need to use the extended URL they provide with downloads that includes the name in the file. But file sharing sites are persnickety about what content they let you pull from their sites. This was the only way I could make it work. I give you:

MediaFire Badges

Please upload the attached image to your images/misc directory or whatever misc directories are in each of your style folders.

143436

In addition to badges, I also made one for Direct Links to images hosted on RapidShare. No need for BBCode, and the image will be resized to no larger than 400px. It will also use your forums tborder class for some nice framing.

This is due to having duplicate definitions, usually due to not deleting existing definitions before importing the same ones (though AME 2.5 should be preventing that provided the keys match) or not deleting the YouTube/Amazon definitions that are recreated during an upgrade.

Digital Jedi

AME 2.5 should be forcing you to, if you import definitions with the same key. I try not to change keys when doing updates to existing Master definitions unless necessary. So you should be being stopped upon import from creating any duplications.

I do still have problems with the youtu.be URL. Do I need to add a specific definition for those?
What trouble are you having, exactly?

Digital Jedi
01-25-2013, 08:43 PM
I see what happened now. I did rename YouTube's key to youtube1 while trying to delete a duplicate definition created when I reinstalled AME here the other day. Totally my fault. Be sure to keep the youtube1 definition, delete the other one, and change the key back to youtube so you don't run into that problem again.

That can be a thing, too. Right? [sigh]

Here's a few updates to try and make up for my formidable absence. "Sorry I've been away so long. I won't let you down again."

https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2013/02/32.jpg

Updated

Amazon now uses the same formatting as eBay thumbs.

https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/attachment.php?attachmentid=143633&d=1359955923

I think it looks a lot better, so switch up at your discretion. You might want to nudge your title character count up just a little. Also, be sure to put the following Amazon logo (at the bottom of this post) in your images/misc directory.

Facebook is updated for the new URL strings, and includes an Old definition to support your old embeds.

Hulu got a much needed update, but unfortunately there's no way to support the older embeds. They'll look a little funny. Not terrible, just funny. As long as you don't edit them, they should still work.

YouTube Videos, Short URLs & Playlists all have been updated to support the new https protocol. (Also corrected my misnamed youtube1 key name.) And there's a brand new Playlists definition, along with an Old def to maintain older embeds. (Profiles/Channels will have to wait for now. Not sure if it's being used much, anyway.)

zSHARE, RapidShare, MediaFire & CNET Badges all got some tweaks for page load performance and styling. They now all use a single image each, found in the image gallery below.

And now, for the good stuff...

NEW DEFINITIONS
Caught up with most of the list, and left comments in the request threads when I needed more info, or couldn't make a site work. You'll be able to see my replies once I soft open my forum later this month.

Audioboo - Yeah, I laughed at the name a little. Embed audio files using their JavaScript player. Remember, JavaScript doesn't show up for the poster when he posts a link via AJAX (Quick Reply/inline editing). But it's there, and will be there when he refreshes/reloads the page. There's a second Audioboo definition you can toggle if JavaScript is a problem for you, but it doesn't look or work quite as a good as the JavaScript one.

Bloomberg - More News!

ClipSyndicate - Aggregate News!

CNBC - Boring News!

Dockstock - Some documents will not embed, so they've been excluded from converting. I'll try to get you guys a more universal "no media" icon for when AME uses validation like this.

eHow - And how! That one took almost a day to make work.

FileHippo - Badges for FileHippo downloads. Background image available in the gallery below.

JigZone - Completely overlooked BirdOPrey's version of this back when he first posted it. This should embed all puzzles no matter the piece number picked from the website.

MLB - Yay! Baseba...zzzzzzzzz (Kidding.)

MovShare - Should work, but since I can't browse the site, I could only verify on a couple of MovShare links I happened to already know about. Also, it's MovShare. Get a popup blocker. A good one.

MyVido1 - That is how it's spelled.

NASCAR Yay! Racin...zzzzzzzzzzzzz... A second definition is there for the Short URL that comes up with the video player. But it's an odd one. Short URLs redirect to the video source URL. So, the only way to make it work results in a video that auto-plays. Use the second one at your own discretion. The main one works the best.

OpenFile - Video hosting service.

Picasa Web Albums Slideshow - Embeds a web album as a slideshow. Doesn't quite work well with videos in an album, but that's on Google's end, not mine.

Pinterest Boards & Pins - This one was kind of a big deal for me to make work. One def will embed a Pinterest Pin using your style's tboder class as a border. The other will embed the ten latest Pins from a Pinterest Board. Complete with image linking and everything. And yes, they can be used together. Be sure to grab the Pinterest icon from the image gallery below.

https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/attachment.php?attachmentid=143632&d=1359955923

TED - Should work for all TED.com Talks, except where the video source is a YouTube video.

Veevr - One def for videos and another for channels should make everything on the site embeddable.

Vevo - I honestly don't know why I don't already have a definition for this site. Seems kinda obvious.

Zippyshare - Another downloads badge for another downloads website. Optimized to the new 2.0 badges! <--Note: That's not really a thing.

No, there should be no need to rebuild anything. Just delete the ones you want to replace before importing. Back up any if you think you need to before doing so. That's pretty much it.

For anyone interested in making definitions, I've updated my Resources post (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost.php?p=1662805&postcount=5) on the first page to include a link to a RegEx tester called Expresso. I've since stopped using The Regulator, mainly because it hasn't seen an update in a few years and would occasionally become corrupted if not shut down properly. Expresso is kept pretty current and more stable. And free!

In addition, don't be shy about sharing any defs you've made that are not in our Master list. I'll review everything before putting it out there, so no need to fear making anything wrong or incomplete. These defs got as big as they did in large part because of crowd sourcing them from the community.

I've looked at this and went so far as to even delete the definition, re-import it or recreate it manually. Even tried variations on the RegEx pattern. For whatever reason, AME is not recognizing the pattern, and that pattern only.

At this point I would try all troubleshooting methods. Re-upload the AME files and re-install the product as if you were doing an upgrade. (Be sure to delete the duplicate YouTube and Amazon definition that will create.) Test those links again. Disable each modification one at a time, then edit a test link with each one disabled. The only reason I could imagine just one definition will work and not other is because of a modification conflict.

Looks like it's parsing the URL, but not converting the HTML. I'm not sure why it would be doing this, but if you give me temp Admin CP access, I can try to take a look at it. Apparently, I still have an account with GIF from the last time I tried to troubleshoot something on your site.

Whoops, I must have clicked that by accident...

I deleted my previous DailyMotion definition, uploaded the newest one and still no dice:

http://gridironfans.com/forums/1533692-post2.html

This is the second time I've run into this issue the last couple of weeks. The RegEx is valid, but it's just not parsing. And I can only imagine something is specifically interfering with it. Which is odd if other definitions are working normally. I even tried "tricking" AME with a variable RegEx, and it hesitated for a second, then failed to parse it anyway. If you and ecurbh can compare notes; see how many modifications you're running that are the same or similar, and/or if turning certain ones off makes any difference when editing a post, then you might want to do so. I can't help but think there's a common denominator here, as I've never seen a single, random definition fail to parse a link, but continue to parse others. There's honestly no reason for it not to work, other than a mod conflict. Something that indiscriminately affects one definition, but not others.

Minor, somewhat embarrassing exclusion from the last update. Pinterest (Boards) uses a 1px x 1px transparent GIF, named trans.gif, that needs to be in your images/misc folder to work properly. I forgot to include it in the last post. If you already have a trans.gif in your images directory (not unusual to already have one) then nothing to worry about. If you don't, well here it is:

--->https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2013/02/2.gif<---

Its' really tiny and, well, transparent. But it's there, between the arrows, if you need it.

Or just copy & paste vBulletin's own clear.gif to your style's /misc/ folder and then rename it to trans.gif. ;) Otherwise, good luck trying to right-click and save that 1x1px image above.

Thanks to vB.org's auto-linking, you can also click between the arrows and it'll open in the window by itself.

You can click close to an image in a post to get it to show up in the redirect, but the redirect still only shows one image 1x1px in size that you have to have great aim to click. Most people won't have any trouble right-clicking the image to save it, but some (like me, with a disability) have difficulty and others (with even greater disability) may have even more difficulty or might not be able to do it at all.

It might also seem like I have way too much time on my hands - because I do. :( You? You ain't stupid. You are one of a very small handful of good coders that also support their work and often support the work of others.

Nope, only works on 3.x. AME 3 was coded for 4.x, which I'm hoping to getting around to creating a definitions set for this month. <whisper>It was mentioned in the first post.</whisper> But it has it's limitations, since it uses vB's built in parsing feature. So the definitions set will be a lot smaller.

Then you might find this useful, whenever you have an image open directly in your browser, you don't have to right click it to save it. You can just use the Save option in your browser, or just hit Ctrl +S on your keyboard. And if you can left click more easily than right click on an image, you can drag that image into your address bar (in most browsers I've tried) and it will open the image up directly, which you can then Ctrl + S to save.

Hi. I am trying to import the master xml.

I only had an amazon and youtube definition prior, so I deleted both of them for a blank slate.

I read to try and break it into pieces so I have tried many combinations with even a single at a time.

After Gamespot (part 2) I cannot import any further. If it was a memory issue, trying to import Game Videos through Justin.TV per say, should work as A-G and G-J, A-G was a lot more than I'm trying now. It seems there is some limitation.

What could be wrong? Is there any way to package the extension with the full list?

It's tough to say. Sometimes different servers have different limitations and issues that come up with the rather large import list here. You might have ran into a limitations per day issue, or some kind of time out. Seems there's some issues with AME and newer versions of mod_security, which is a security feature some web hosts use. Are you able, for example, to import the seconds half of the definitions starting with a blank slate? Or is it specifically the specific section that isn't importing? Did you trying skipping GameSpot (Part 2)? If you can try a few variations, you might be able to find a workaround.

Have you tried toggling all you other modifications to off, then editing the post to see if it works? If it's a mod conflict, then it would reveal itself that way. Also re-uploading the files and running the install script as if you were doing an upgrade (overwrite to yes) will tell us if it's a fle issue. Also creating a new skin with no parent, and then testing a post will tell us if there's something in the style conflicting. All, really, process of elimination at this point.

I have a member who always seems to share a You Tube video that he watches in full-browser mode. The last link he shared was this: http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=1pYqquG27pg All that appears on the page is a link, not the video. Visiting the link results in a video that fills the browser window and all I can see that you can do is swich from that view to full-screen mode. You can't go to the actual video page that contains comments, etc. (sorry about my terminology).

I have the latest definitions loaded, so I don't know if there's something I need to do to make these videos he shares show up as a video in the thread, or if I'm missing a definition.

Yeah, I'm not sure why people do that, as it requires several extra steps. I'm not sure if they think the extraction source URL is somehow better or if they thinks that's what you pull to get the video to embed. But I think I can rewrite the RegEx to account for it. Let me see what I can do.

On a side note, is anyone outside of the US still getting YouTube videos with the # and #! symbols instead of the usual ? symbol in URLs? I had someone request this a while back, and this URL structure doesn't seem to be something they use anymore.

[[Friday Night Updates]]
<psst> Just play along.

Got a couple of updates for you and yours.

UPDATED

YouTube - Tweaked this definition to handle some of the additional URL configurations that YouTube keeps coming up with in their continued attempt to drive me insane. Note that URLs that we saw for a little while with # and !# in place of ? no longer work with this definition. If needed, I'll come up with something for that.

NEW

jsFiddle - Embed a fiddle in your posts. Note that while jsFiddle is great for testing CSS and JavaScript, their embeds display the JavaScript code first and then running it displays the results. It skips over any CSS or HTML fields, so not really great for displaying your CSS code, only for showing the results of your CSS code. It will also display the JavaScript field first, even it's blank.

That request was from 2010. They've since made it easier to embed SmugMug videos since then. At the time, I had no way of getting to the video embed information, I'm not even sure their videos were browsable. I can pretty much add it to the next update, now that I see it's easier to look through their videos and embeds.

https doesn't seem to be working

Example

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vppbdf-qtGU

Also another variation that doesn't embed is:

I had no trouble embedding either of these videos. Check your configuration, possibly re-install the definitions. Or alternatively, make sure you don't have anything installed that's conflicting with AME.

Some current problems with my site are preventing me from testing these properly, but just from looking at them, there shouldn't be a problem with the definition. It should be matching. What do you get instead of the embed? A formatted link, or just the raw link?

More importantly, it appears their source URL has changed structure. The object code should have still worked, otherwise. I'm surprised they didn't roll this out with the URL string change. But, oh well, at least they don't normally change week to week like you-know-<cough>YouTube</cough>-who.

Try changing the Replacement HTML to this:
<iframe src="http://www.facebook.com/video/embed?video_id=$p1" width="$ameinfo[width]" height="$ameinfo[height]" frameborder="0"></iframe>

Will roll out an updated one when I get my site sorted out.

Hello Digital,

First of all thanks for your contribution!
I had downloaded AME 2.5.6 and follow up this thread for the definitions.
All went ok. Installed AME, imported the definitions, Resync Files but it doen't work. I first tought it was my site (some plugins interference) but tested it on localhost a new vbulletin installation, made all the steps that I mentioned above and still doesn't worked.

Any solutions?

Thank once again!

It's tough to say, if it's not working on both installations. What links have you tried testing out so far? The product is enabled, correct? Sometimes first time users of this mod set the Disable New Items to Yes when it should be set to No. And, of course, check to make sure all the zones you want it working in are enabled.

Really rough, and thrown together pretty quick, but this should give you the ability to embed Storify feeds in a post. Made specifically to allow folks to embed the Storify feed that's keeping up with the Boston saga unfolding right this minute. If you've never used Storify, it's a remarkable way to keep up with tweets from reporters and related news live. I've been watching it all night. Faster than the regular media.

It's not tested, since I don't have a working site right now. But it should work.

Can you get brightcove based videos to work? A lot of news organizations use it. Hulu uses it as well. See the link below. I think the difference between HULU and the news organizations is that HULU uses a DNS cname to make it appear that the video is hosted on their site when it is really hosted by Brightcove. Adding brightcove support would make this work with tens of thousands of news websites.

It's not exactly how AME works.

AME works by detecting a URL, such as the one you posted, and transforming the link to the Replacement HTML in its respective definition. If the website is YouTube, for example, I have to create a definition that will allow AME to match YouTube URLs, and then AME will replace them with whatever the HTML in the definition is.

So take a website like PC Planets, who had content hosted on YouTube. It didn't matter that I had created YouTube definition. AME needed to detect PC Planets URLs. So a separate definition had to be created to match their YouTube content. (And their URLs had to be unique enough so as not to try and parse their MetaCafe hosted videos, as YouTube videos.)

The source of the video is not what matters. Anything can go in the Replacement HTML box. It's irrelevant to the RegEx pattern, which needs to match a URL before it can do anything. I have quite a few definitions already for websites that use Brightcove. But that's just source code, and not what AME looks at when trying to match a pattern. This is the reason why you can't make a definition for something like vbTube. Definitions are for specific sites. Not specific video services.

Thanks for the answer... Makes sense. Now that I understand i'm not going to ask for a detection built for just that one site. It would have been nice to knock out a few birds with one stone.

Replacement:
<object width="$ameinfo[width]" height="$ameinfo[height]">

If you haven't looked over post #5 in this thread yet, you might want to give it a look. BirdOPrey's tutorial is linked there, as well as some more resources for figuring out this RegEx thing. In context to making definitions for AME, it's actually kinda easy. And kinda fun.

For the link in the container that holds the videos, you would need to edit, not the definition, but the ame_container link for each style you use. And possibly each of the ame_nomedia templates as well, for when a video is only parsed as a link. This, of course, will only affect the default container. In the rare instances where the default container isn't used, such as in Amazon or Pinterest, you would need to edit those definitions directly.

Definitions do not overwrite. You have to delete old versions before adding the new ones. In older versions of AME, there didn't used to be any kind of warning about this, and you would end up with two definitions trying to convert the same links at the same time. AME 2.5 added the "key" feature. Definitions all get their own unique key, so if you try to import a definition with a key identical to one you already have, you'll get a warning. If you're still getting the warning, that means you're still trying to import definition(s) that have the same key as one you already have.

If you have some kind of text editor, open up the XML and see if it's complete. It should end with the closing tag </AME>. You shouldn't be getting empty keys, unless, possibly, your server is truncating the file even before the full import.
