I would like to know if I need to install version 1.40 because, If the current “Nomination Thread” is deleted for whatever reason, a single manual run of the cron file will suffice to create a new thread, avoiding a clean install of the product.?

Option to automatically add points to award winners’ reputation at the end of the contest (addition v 1.4)

This is a great mod and works very well on my site (RVPics.com). I do have one suggestion. My users seem to be a little confused about the 'voting'. The word 'nominate' suggests that once one nomination is made, it is not necessary to nominate a post again. What I'm seeing is that nominated posts only show one or two nominations. It might make more sense to change the word 'nominate' to 'vote', which would indicate that it is a contest and the most votes win. Just a thought, for what it's worth.

Update in version 1.2

Have added already the option to enable/disable statistics on postbit/postbit_legacy. Also an option to disable statistics for selected users.

Point me to an example so that I can have a better view on this.

Upgrading From Previous Version < 1.40.

1. Uncompress the archive
2. Upload the content of the "upload" folder into your forum root directory
3. Import the "product_nominate_topic.xml" product via your ACP:
ACP -> Plugins & Products -> Manage Product -> Add/Import Product
(Allow overwrite for updating)
4. Adjust the mod settings as you see fit.
Specify the Forum ID that will receive nomination threads. Also specify the User ID of the nomination thread owner.
ACP -> vBulletin Options -> vBulletin Options -> Nominate Topic Mod
5. Save the specified settings

Do I Run Now?
6.?
ACP -> Scheduled Tasks -> Scheduled Task Manager
Nominate Weekly Or Monthly Topic Mod -> Run Now

Not ignored, simply haven't got the time to sit down and count those.

...hi bro... thanks for the update...still i have no stable mod to my site...the latest test i had was set for weekly only...(5) topics has been nominated...and all visible to poll thread...yesterday...but now i check it again today... it seems that the other nominated topics are missing or deleted auto...same as the other nomination from members...

seems that something is not really right...

I re-uploaded the image folder a few times and I tried to figure out the binary thing that someone else posted and I believe that is fine as well. I use Firefox fire ftp and I believe it only uses binary. What is teamviewer?

I have this addon to run monthly contests. As it stands now, my next contest won't start till August, so I'm guessing my members won't see a nomination button till then. Am I correct? If so, I was wondering if there is a way to start a contest in the middle of the month.

Option not to display nomination statistics on postbit for selected usergroups (addition v 1.50)
Option not to display a link to nomination thread in the Quick-Links
Few display titles fixed
Additions made for users who had problems displaying the nomination button and stamp on their styles. Checkout the "Readme and installation" file.
Cron file completely rewritten. Why?
The previous cron file worked fine only when they were activated manually from the Run button in the Admin CP, but they were failing to run on their own as a scheduled task. I noticed that vbulletin global variables were no longer been passed to the cron file. Why??? :confused: I have actually getting the values of vbulletin global variables needed for the cron directly from the database.
If you noticed that the "Nomination Thread" of the past week did not closed properly, proceed as follow:

Open the cron file (upload/included/cron/
Search for "// $createNewThread = 1;"
Replace it by: "$createNewThread = 1;"
Upload the cron file and run it manually (only once), just to close the previous thread and open a new one.
Upload the original cron file back (the one with "// $createNewThread = 1;")

Ok, I'm at the read me file and I'm looking at the instructions for those that are having display problems. However, it doesn't tell you where to edit the code. I tried the postedit and the legacy one but neither of those contain that information. Am I looking in the wrong place?

Odd.

I am still on 1.4 ( see no need at present to upgrade to 1.5 )

I noticed yesterday and this morning:

Whilst looking on forumhome, at our TOTW forum icon, the latest reply yesterday was from ( example ) User B

This morning I noticed it was ( user C )

However on both occasions, it is diplaying last post ( nomination ) is USER A

Am i right in thinking that the thread had closed, but because the cron, didnt run at the simultaneous time of the TOTW closing, then a new week 30 wasnt created, and propogating with USER B and USER C results...

So in essence, USER A was the very last person to have nominated vote ACCEPTED on week 29 poll..

That subsequently closed, cron did not update to week 30 immediately...

And user B and user C voites albeit are showing on forumhome as being last voters, their vote has disappeared into cyberspace.

Does this make any sense to you at all lol

Any suggestions?

I have just run the cron manually, and week 30 has initiated and is displaying, but no overspill votes from user b or c have propgated the voting.

The template for those is

The phrases are:
$vbphrase[nominate_topic_times_post]
$vbphrase[nominate_topic_nominated_awards_TOTWFM]

Those phrases are defined in the "phrase" section

Can you post a screenshot of what you are referring to? :)

The post has no title as it was replied to with quick reply but in the previous version of this mod the whole thread title was displayed in italics in the poll results. I need the change that was made to be undone. The poll looks funny now with blank entries.

Update in version 1.51

For weekly nominations, Cron file set to create a new "Nomination Thread" every MONDAY's (00:10AM) as the week numbering starts on Monday's and not on Sunday's (as set in v 1.50)

If you are running v 1.50 with weekly cycle time and noticed that a new nomination thread has been created but the display title is still that of the previous thread (week 30), then this is for you. Do not delete the newly created nomination thread (with title week 30). On Monday 21st July, 2008, after 00:10AM, proceed as follow:

Refresh your poll from the ACP -> Nominate Topic -> Refresh Poll (This will update the display title of both the poll and the nomination thread)
Upload the content of the attachment v 1.51 to your root directory. (DO NOT MANUALLY RUN THE CRON FILE)

I have noticed with another user that a "customized style" can have an effect on some functions calls, namely these ones:

$this->registry->userinfo
defined('LOCATION_BYPASS')
nominate_topic_off($thread['forumid'], $post, $thread['firstpostid'], THIS_SCRIPT)

They all return false some how on some "customized styles", hence the non display of the nomination button and stamps since they are activated by successful completion of the test:

after half a dozen "fixes" a new thread is still not created - it keeps on using the same thread for each week - surely the last weeks should be closed and then a new thread started. its very confusing for members when its the same thread used each time.

But i did notice that some of my buttons wasn't working mainly because it was missing some of the standard Hooks from default vbulletin installation example : $template_hook[postbit]
and $template_hook[postbit_controls] without those two the buttons wouldn't show

So if im right you wrote your code to search for this line then to add it which could explain why SOME style doesn't work cause some people remove it thinking it's not useful etc. Once i added it everything showed up.

I could be wrong for the nominated ribbon but that was my case for the nomination button

Firstly,

Just wanted to personally thank J98680B2423E (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/member.php?u=236874) for his time in helping me the other day via Teamviewer.

I had issues with a custom template, which resulted in text not being displayed correctly.

What i noticed was in my styles templates, SOme of the "Nominate Templates apeared under the "Custom Templates" section.

I simply removed them, did a fresh install of the mod, and now am good to go.

This may help someone, may not

If you are running v 1.50 with weekly cycle time and noticed that a new nomination thread has been created but the display title is still that of the previous thread (week 30), then this is for you. Do not delete the newly created nomination thread (with title week 30). On Monday 21st July, 2008, after 00:10AM, proceed as follow:

Refresh your poll from the ACP -> Nominate Topic -> Refresh Poll (This will update the display title of both the poll and the nomination thread)
Upload the content of the attachment v 1.51 to your root directory. (DO NOT MANUALLY RUN THE CRON FILE)

We can only fix this manually. Let me know when you are online.

To resize the ribbon award in the "Hall of Fame", you only need to resize the ribbon image using any image editor. :)

The "nominate button" will not display in the forum containing the nomination thread.

It will not create a new thread EACH DAY, unless in the cron file you have replaced the line:

By

$createNewThread = 1;

and left it as that in the cron file.

If you are still collecting the features you can always consider my idea of taking out (as an option) the cumulative polls results and showing all the threads. That is an 'unlimited' option.

A thought, what happens at the end of a voting period of the first two places tie on vote numbers?

I do not expect that there will be any trouble with the new version if you added it manually already.

I will take another look at increasing the poll choices to an acceptable limit. :)

On tie, as the data are extracted on ascending order on Post ID, the the one with the least ID will come first. :)

Another niggle spotted..... If the thread title has quotes in it as per the attached when the nomination poll or threads are created / updated you get the quot characters coming through like ""The Best Pocket PC Freeware" Site ". See attached.

1. Update the following phrases either directly from the product file or from vbulletin

nominate_topic_has_not_won_TOTWFM_yet

nominate_topic_nominated_awards_TOTWFM

2. Open the following file "upload/nominate_topic.php"

Search for:
<img src=\"" . $avatarurl . "\" height=\"150\" alt=\"" . $user_username . " ". $vbphrase[xs_avatar] . "\" border=\"0\" />

You can specify the avatar dimensions at that line; e.g. change the 150 to 100 to reduce the avatar height (P.S. the width will be automatically and proportionally be resized). If you want to specify a predefined width, add:
width=\"nn\" just before the "alt". Here, nn will be a specification of your width.

Hi TsirhCitna,

Ensure that you have the latest cron file (v 1.51) uploaded. In that file, data are read directly from vbulletin database, as reported here (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=185766), avoiding the "phrase missing" and "vbulletin options" missing issues.

The transition between week 31 to week 32 when smoothly: previous thread closed properly and new thread created with new poll id. :up:

Okay, I reupped the cron and ran it and the poll corrected. Not sure how I got the wrong version after we fixed everything last week.

I am getting an error when using the "vote" or "nominate" button to nominate a post/thread. As soon as the screen appears with the thread nominated pic, the browser (FF & IE) throws an error.
"fetch_object("nominate_topic_stamps_"+postid) has no properties.

I just installed it on my forum but don't see where a member nominates a thread. Did i miss a step? i ran the program and it made the post about the thread of the month and all so i am not sure what is missing

All other Mods have full display in postbit.

I however noticed, this particular mod, had a secondary usergroup of registered user. Which we have since removed.

However have done recounts, etc .. made no difference

I can not get the postbit images items to show at all...

I've uninstalled it and installed it numerous times (and followed the instructions about them not showing up). Still nothing. Also nothing on the default Vb skin.

Any ideas anyone?

Are you using custom skin?

If so you need to install images to the respective folder within the style you are using. You have uploaded the CONTENTS of the upload folder and not the actual upload folder havent you.

Give us your site link, I will take a look ( proving the mod is activated ) see if we can find out what you have done.,

EDIT: need a test account , as it seems you have TOTW switched off for guests on your SIG Website.

Albeit you have nominate topic in your html code

I've had that today as well, I've been adjusting the phrases and so I've tried adding in an English entry for this. Hoping it will be enough to fix the problem.

Also noticed that when a topic wins, and rep is an option to be added, it sets the setting wrong.

To explain.

On my board the rep points is like the above post, but it then sets the user as having only '6' points in the name of the rep level, while the actual points are added to but not displayed in the name. Yet, the rep symbols remain the same.

User 1 has 450 points (on my board that is Ace 2nd Grade) which means a user normally displays 5 of the https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2008/07/1.gif symbols.

User 1 wins the nomination contest and gets 6 points.

Now in the postbit 5 of the https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2008/07/1.gif are show, the system reads 456 points through the Admin CP, but when you hover over the https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2008/07/1.gif it acts as if it's only got 6 points, and so displays Harmless the 0-10 point level in my rep system.

This gets 'unstuck' when rep is added, and goes back to behaving normally.

On another point, the month competition ended today, already, even though it's not the end of July.

It's then setup a new thread for 'August' even though we've just finished the 'August' contest.

Topic of the Week-Month Nomination v1.51 Updated Prod and Cron

Automatic PM subject phrase moved from "<phrasetype name="Email Subject Text" fieldname="emailsubject">" to "<phrasetype name="GLOBAL" fieldname="global">"
For monthly nominations, Cron file set to create a new "Nomination Thread" every 1st day of the month (00:10AM) and not on the last day of the month.

Agreed on those last two points, the month ended a day early and the new thread has again been created with 'August' in the title.

This is with running 1.51 with the latest Cron / Mod.

Cron file fixed, attachment uploaded accordingly. Thread was been closed on the last day of the month, at 00:10 AM. Thus, the month name remained unchanged at that time.

Have updated the cron file so that it will close the thread on the first day of the month at 00:10AM

You can update the title of the newly created thread title manually (Change July to August), as there should be no problems with the nomination poll if you were using the cron file of v1.51. If you were using an older cron file and noticed that your previous poll results have been affected, contact me via TeamViewer at:

The vbulletin function

is failing to work. Similar reason as reported here (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=185766).

Have added the following to the cron file to read the PM subject directly from vbulletin database:

$get_phrase = $vbulletin->db->query_read("SELECT * FROM `". TABLE_PREFIX ."phrase` WHERE `varname` = 'nominate_topic_awardwinner_pm_subject'");
$fetchphrase = $vbulletin->db->fetch_array($get_phrase);
$nt_awardwinner_pm_subject = $fetchphrase['text'];

This should fix the missing phrase issue on the automatic PM subject:

You can use it without problem. As your Nomination system is set to Weekly, it will not create a new thread (in the coming hours: transition from July to August) :)

The error was due to the fact that I had a test instruction set for the last day of the month at 00:10 AM. From 00:10AM until 24:00 it's still the same day on the same month. We had a similar error on a Weekly set-up on Sundays. The correction was made by considering Monday as starting day for weeks counting. :up:

I have a feature request:
My postbit_legacy is getting a bit full :(
I'd like to be able to display the award for Topic of The Month but not the statistics "Nominated 13 Times in 6 Posts" "TOTW/F/M Award(s): 1"

How about displaying an award for "Last Months Winner" and "Previous Topic Winner". The alt tag of the image would contain the description of the award ;)

I use VBExperience (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=171014&highlight=vbexperience) So for me it would be neater to use that to display the award. However the relevant columns are displayed within VBExperience (So I will ask that mod creater for help).

but is dosen?t metter, we have testing all 2 Options
Mod install with manually start the cron, so then we bevome the starting thread but voting button forward to 404

and Install the mod without start the cron the no new Pollthread is made and the nomination button forward to 404

As the fun forum is very busy but the music or society forum is much more profitable so my users will contest for their fun thread and I have cultural aims , Is there a way to have a contest for each forum separately ?

Also, this would help prevent the thread post from being obscured by children posts, which usually has less important content. Please tell me what you did to fix the problem. I have the same problem (buttons not showing up no matter what) and I'd like to have some clue as to where to start looking.

I've tried the advice in the included Readme and installation.rtf file, no change. I have the images uploaded for all skins. I have disabled all other plugins and viewed only through default skin - to no avail. Everything else appears to be working just fine, just the button image to nominate the thread will not appear. (Thanks button appears without a problem though...)

2) Is it me but are the polls a month out in the titling? At the moment we are in August and are voting for the TOTM for September. Surely the TOTM vote should be stating that we are voting for the TOTM in the curent month i.e. August instead of September?

Hi,

Just a quick question!

Ive had this running for a fortnight and its worked great - however are the top three people supposed to get a little award after they have won?

Nothing is showing up at all.

Edit - Ive just noticed that it only shows up on the actual post they were awared the award for.

TOTW/F/M Award(s): 0 - Is it possible to make this clickable to it takes the person clicking it to that members award?

Also, how do a change "TOTW/F/M Award(s): 0" to say " TOTF Award(s): 0"

After the first poll finished - It dodnt close the thread and start a new one, it just continued on the first one. Is there anyway after each fortnight the thread can close and a new one start up? Would also be quite cool if uit automatically created a new thread saying "This fortnights winners" and showed who won with their awards.

Quick question,...noticed on the last totw was created on my board, the Disable Nominating Topics Older Than X Days setting is not being followed.

I had it set for 90 days, and a two year old topic got nominated.

Settings include first post in topic only can be nominated.

Still Loving this mod...

However, as the nominations are increasing, ive just noticed a display issue on the hall of fame, its only come about after this current cycle ended.

See attachment for what i mean.

Anyway of correctting this to limit how many nominees apear in the row?

I have a request.

When the polls are created the link is in this format: http://www.tenstones.net/forums/showthread.php?t=394634 which doesn't link correctly with vBSEO installed.

If I refresh the poll it becomes: http://www.tenstones.net/forums/showthread.php?t=279197&p=394634 which links correctly.

Is there a way to make it use the 2nd format all the time?

I'm embarrassed to admit this because I probably overlooked something simple,,,,, but after installing I get a 404 error page when I click the Nominate button.

Then, after manually the cron job, the View Poll Results thread simply reads "Awaiting nominees..."

Can you tell me what I missed?

I have upgraded to 1.51 and works fine even if I didn't understand very well the reason.
I wait for next month to see if it creates the topic with the next month (and not the same as the already finished month).

On the other hand I have a suggestion to Enterprise master :D
It should be interesting to have a small icon next to attachements, deleted messages icons and the stars when you browse the topics. This is next to last message column.
I guess a small medal but with big differences between place 1 , 2 and 3 should be great.
This way while browsing subjects new users have incentive to visit the most appreciated topics.
Maybe even make it sticky or with different color ...
Or a combination Number 1 with different colour and 2 & 3 with small medal icon.

If you read back through the thread you will see I raised the quot issue and the author has said it will be resolved in the next release. Which he will commence working on when he gets back from holiday.

I have a custom design and cannot get the nomination buttons to show. I have done all of the edits that were suggested for a custom site, per the read me. I have also uploaded the images to my custom images directory too. I can see the nomination statistics in postbit and the Quick Links show the appropriate links and the automatic thread creation works but I cannot get the nomination buttons to show.

Any suggestions?

I also have the permissions set so anyone can nominate and every forum can nominate.
After testing some more, here is something I found:

If I navigate to the pages via my phone I can see the images to nominate a thread. Clicking on them works too. I nominated two topics and they got added to the TOTM thread. If I then go back to my computer, I cannot see the nomination images. I have logged in under different accounts and still nothing. Cleared my browser's cache, nothing. Not sure what to do now.

The second issue is that I do not use reputation on my board so when the PM refers to these it is meaningless. In ACP I have set reputation bonus to 0 and disabled.

The final issue is this in the PM body:

Whenever i enable the "Only allow nomination of posts from the preceeding week" it doesn't work at all .. no posts can be nominated :/

Any one got an idea of why this happens?

Bump... still looking for a solution to this. At the moment this feature is completely unusable without that button appearing for topics.

We would like to point out this has a serious problem on the profile page. Where you set your hook in the profile page for stats for the profile in member_profileblock_fetch_unwrapped you didnt specify a block id so the query is basically run inside a loop so you get one call of the query per block instead of just calling it once.

We had 16 queries on our profile page from that hook so for now since we were wanting to show the awards stat somewhere else I just adapted the code and moved it to another hook for now instead of setting up an id like should have been done. Basically if you have 16 blocks on your profile page thats 16 queries instead of 1 without the id.

Later we will see about posting up some fixed code when we go and add it back into the statistics tab on our site. But this is just a heads up for the developer and any big sites using this modification right now who may want to disable that hook location for the moment if they are having high loads since installing this modification.

I was having an issue with this mod, the nomination thread that was created by the cron run didn't use my translated phrases (my forum is spanish).

I watched a bit in the cron php file, and I figured out what is the problem: the phrases table is queried like this:

$get_phrase = $vbulletin->db->query_read("SELECT * FROM `". TABLE_PREFIX ."phrase` WHERE `varname` = 'nominate_topic_nomination_thread_title_fortnight'");

The problem is that it doesn't select any language, so mysql just returns the default phrase. It should have an extra "where" clause like this:

languageid = (id of the forum default language)

Where tie "id of the default language" should be queried from the vbulletin settings.

I did find a bug, we run a TOTW forum, and if you look at the forum list, it says zero topics in there, but correctly lists the post count.

I love this mod, and look forward to seeing some of these minor issues helped with, as my VB coding skills are, well, very 'limited' at best.

Is it possible with this hack to have different categories for topic of themonth.

EG my forum is for graphic designers, traditional artists, story writers, film makers and musicians. So I would like seperate awards for each. Also though I only want my members to be able to vote once for each category each month.

My postbit_legacy is getting a bit full :(
I'd like to be able to display the award for Topic of The Month but not the statistics "Nominated 13 Times in 6 Posts" "TOTW/F/M Award(s): 1"

How about displaying an award for "Last Months Winner" and "Previous Topic Winner". The alt tag of the image would contain the description of the award ;)

I use VBExperience (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=171014&highlight=vbexperience) So for me it would be neater to use that to display the award. However the relevant columns are displayed within VBExperience (So I will ask that mod creater for help).

J98680B2423E Could you tell me which fields VBExperience would need to count to do this?

Edit the phrases "nominate_topic_has_not_won_TOTWFM_yet" and "nominate_topic_nominated_awards_TOTWFM". You can also edit those directly in the ".xml" product file.

It's awaiting nominees. Try to nominate any post and checkout the resulting poll thread. :)

You can disable it from your ACP -> Nominate Topic -> Nominate Topic Settings -> Archive Nominations -> NO

If you have disabled the mod, please also disable the associated cron.

Will update the cron file accordingly to take this into account.

i've also tried to disable the thankyou hack

i'm sorry..maybe i've found a problem...it works in all forums except the forum where only mods and admins can enter!

No complaints here. Just hope you had a great vacation, and glad your back. I think this one of the best mods I have seen in awhile as far as community enhancement goes, one of the best supported mods too, and I can see this being developed into something special. (I would vote this MOTM more than once if I could :) )

now the next problem....when you click the button to nominate you get a no permission message.

maybe permission reasons is why the image never showed, however I see no option to set permissions for members to use this

Same problem as above, did the template edits, tried disabling thanks system, the buttons still do not show up

Mine works great, aside from the occasional minor fault.

I am using the Thanks system too, as a compliment to the function of TOTW.

And I expect the quality of support that the coder has provided, to continue.

ok, i looked in the templates and found what was keeping the image from showing.

in the nominate_topic_button template it has

style="display:$display_nominations_image"

if I remove

display:

it works

Thanks, it worked for me too in regards to getting the images working. Unfortunately I had the same problem as you too though with the permissions issue afterwards, even after testing (ie. setting a specific forum for "must be a nomination forum").

Will have to wait and hope somebody can find further solutions for this feature so we can finally get it working for our members.

The mod is running fine on our boards. We did have a problem with the buttons not appearing when we chose a specific combination of settings in the AdminCP, so maybe that's where people need to look rather than at the code?

I've tried all the suggestions in this thread, but no matter what, the button never shows up in any of my styles (including default). It's listed in the page source, but not actually visible. Just tried disabling my thanks button again, and still, no change.

Can this and the thanks button work together? Or will I have to choose between them?

What else can I try to get the button to show up?

Where the mod gets the phrases for month names? Because i've translated all vb phrases for months and it still using ones in english!
